I appreciate the fact you did this video. Thanks for saving some of us time. I get the same effect with VirtualDJ as this (in normal mode), and obviously it's better than RekordBox. RekordBox has terrible stem quality compared to Serato & VirtualDJ, I don't know why. The problem with Serato though is you cannot adjust the volume levels of the stems, nor the EQ as it is playing. This kind of hides those highs you were struggling with stemming in this vid.
Thanks for the video, which actually brought online stem splitting to my attention. That said, I find Lalal's pricing model excessive for amateurs like me. There are a few alternatives that took me 5 minutes of googling that offer monthly plans for their models, which I much prefer to "minute packs" like Lalal does. But again, thanks for the video, otherwise I wouldn't even have thought of the possibility ;)
@@ReallyChrisMit was a surprise to me. I was about to upgrade to the latest release and read the changes. Wondering why. Side note, thanks for publishing great videos. Absolutely learning a few things, a did not know.
Stems were never part of the licencing agreements that labels and copyright holders have with streaming services. Stems will be back eventually, but that tier will be more expensive.@@zamomix
Virtual DJ did a silent update to remove them. No changelog, announcement, or anything at all from them or Tidal. Just gone. I had to find out through forums. Really, really not cool. I know it's like not a cool thing to get your DJ tunes from a streamer like that or whatever, but it was just for my own listening and amusement. The stems on Virtual DJ are incredible from that perspective. It was a huge disappointment for me. I can't really believe that there hasn't been more said about it. It seems like they shouldn't even be allowed to make that kind of call out of the blue like that anyway. Where does it end? No scratching on Tidal tracks? It really doesn't make sense to me.
Of course they wouldn't advertise it mate. As companies they've all spent thousands on marketing convincing you to buy products based on these features. However, they are also at the mercy of the terms and conditions of streaming services and you all signed up to those terms and conditions when you subscribed to the product. The streaming services are also at the mercy of the licencing agreements they signed with the major labels, because they do not own any of the music they publish on their service. If you disagree that copyright holders and publishers should not be able to change the terms of the way their intellectual property, is used or changed in a live environment, then I'm sorry but you're being incredibly naive.@@GrandPoobahChuckyB
tried to separate vocals from Maddix - Gasoline on Lalal, same bad result as rekordbox does. I don't feel like stems are a usable feature RN. Would be great if they can be drastically improved, but for now... they totally ruin the quality
what if the create an audio file extension with channels, so producers could sell those format at higher prices, and consumers get top-notch quality "stems" because they come from the source
Yep absolutely. The difference I've found is with using pre-prepared stems using this or any other service is that because the quality tends to be higher, you can let them ride for a lot longer before the flaws start showing through. A mixture of both pre-prep and live is the sweet spot I reckon (for me at least)
STEMS are over-hyped rubbish, for the reasons you cited, and I refuse to support anything ai-generated. We should be supporting live artists who put in the hard work of creating something unique, not undermining them with gimmicky tools.
I have the opposite view, it's one of the best algorithm's out there after comparing most of them. Still only usable 10% of the time though depending on the source material but the tech is in its infancy as of now.

Can you route outputs to have each instruments go to different speakers?

Rekordbox removed stems features for Tidal tracks
Yep unfortunately all Dj software had to

Obvs can do a better job but you still are not getting the live ability with one track that you have. You have to do more work before you have it.

VIRTUAL DJ has the best Stems, there is no doubt about that.
Agreed!!
@@harshalkheradia7940 I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who knows this. In my local scene, me & 1 other guy are the only ones aware. Lol
Virtual DJ stems, a very good, better than rekordbox, serato and Dj Pro
Yes they are. Even on reduced quality, they are pretty darn good if you adjust the bleed.
By far
Yes. Upvote this, make DJs HIP.

Still waiting for Pioneer to improve those shittystems
Good luck. I moved Virtualdj cause of this.
I don't know man, the side by side comparison with rekordbox sounded exactly the same to me. And we all know how bad rekordbox stems are.
I noticed more bleed from the other instruments on the vocal in particular, it did an alright job on the drums though!

lalal ai is the worst algorithm I have ever seen🤮
