This game's penalty system is a joke, I was actually enjoying the game but I gave up and it's impossible to play online and not get frustrated, you're pushed off the track and the opponent isn't penalized, but if you cut half an inch off the track you're penalized.

Yeah, even just taking into account track limits penalties, I went slightly deep into the 1st chicane at Le mans , cut the corner and got a 2s penalty. I was like "Fair enough" and continued. Then I got to the second chicane, braked perfectly but then understeered through the right hander, went off track for 0.5s and got a 1.8s penalty!
I really do hate the penalty system it's such a joke like I remember playing it for first time and realizing that as well. Only reason why I got the game was because I had previous one and didn't like the outdated looks it had. Sadly just can't play online and have a great experience due to rammers.
If someone rams you, and they go off track first, it counts it as you ramming them off and they don't get a penalty, but you do. It has happened to me many times. "Smart" rammers abuse this and do glancing blows, instead of direct hits.

7:18 daaaamn, that double overtake ! Sick close racing, all that we love 😊 Edit: + excellent battle against that good S2k (i prefer to notice the positive instead of those penalties...😅)
One easy change Turn 10 could add to the code to prevent this from happening is to check if the player being rammed was braking. If that check clears one line of code, check now to see if their braking did not cause a predicted drop in speed (percentage). If one player clears this check and the other doesn't, the rammer is identified and penalized properly. Done.
I think there IS an element of that in the current penalty system, but it's being abused by trolls - Basically if you are side by side down a straight, and you turn into someone and slam your brakes on before the contact, the penalty system sees one car going full throttle, no attempt to change direction, and the other full brakes, steering as hard as possible... often this leads to it deciding that the first player was at fault, because they weren't attempting to avoid a collision - I've seen guys go from 0 penalty to DQ in a couple of laps because of an opponent doing this against them.
This would allow people to brake check you indiscriminately with no repercussions since they were braking and you weren't. I think your solution could make sense if maybe there were predefined braking zones and if you were in a braking zone while braking, you *probably* weren't brake checking someone. This could still be a problem in some spots that would have to be defined as a braking zone but aren't *actually* braking zones in some cars. Eau Rouge at spa comes into my head as an easy example. Most cars would have to brake at some point through that complex, some high-performance cars wouldn't. If it's defined as a braking zone, in a high-performance lobby, someone could brake check you there and there's no consequences. If it's not defined as a braking zone, someone in a low-performance lobby could dive bomb the hell out of you and, as far as the game is concerned, you brake checked them.
The dev didn't even bother to define racing lines because it's easier to take the simpleminded approach. Your wheel was turned left when you got hit, so you're at fault. Their 'system' is as simple (minded) as that. Who cares if you're turning left to follow the path of the track. You turned right into that poor fellow who was going straight and made him crash. Maybe this game WAS made from the ground up, but the penalty system never got off the ground. It just lays there like a dead, rotting fish that stinks more every day.
The first developer to make a fullproof penalty system for a console racer would instantly monopolize the multiplayer scene. There is no logical reason they are still tripping over themselves like this to resolve the code.
I think the part that stung the most for me is how the guy that torpedo'd you left the game right after, either by the automatic DNF or himself quitting and wanting to mess someone before it
I like how the penalty system gets gradually worse over time. At first it's pretty much normal, very slight off-track and a little bit of scratch in collision that doesn't give any penalty. But then the same little scratch occurs, a warning is given. Finally, the system revealed it's true colors by giving penalty to the divebomb victim luls.
Man, this is plain BS. I got dive bombed in a race over 3 times and I lost my S rating down to a B. Really makes you wonder WTH is going through the DEVS heads when they planned this out.

You know what pisses me about the negative Forza comments? People act as if Forza can control idiot behaviors.
they could, if their penalty system actually worked.
Valid criticism is a thing. The penalty system on this game needs a massive amount of work, it does nothing to deter the behavior it was intended to curb. So yea, it's a negative, but a valid complaint. There is no logic that makes getting shoved off track and receiving a 5 second penalty ok. The penalty system isn't even half baked.
@@zenthien6731 To say "half-baked" would imply that they even bothered to turn on the oven, which does not appear to be the case.
At this point, you’ll get disqualified for getting rammed and the rammer? Nah. He’s completely fine.
I just can't believe how incompetent developers are nowadays like this is such an obvious oversight to the point you'd think it'd be sorted out during a testing phase. Truly do think people who ram like that deserve to get not only banned from online for at least 1mo but potentially permanently after a certain number of times. Just ridiculous having losers ruining a game just from simply ramming into your car.

Los nervios traicionaron en esa última carrera.
Imagine paying for VIP or premium edition of the game just to drive like that
I'd just ragequit the game at this point...
The penalty system was always garbage since FM7
2:01 take a closer look at the Ferrari, nothing is confusing?
same for me, last 2 races I got taken out and 4-5 second penalties for it. kind of ruining online for me tbh
Ill be honest. I dive bomed someone who was being an absolute shithead the whole game. Ended up with no penalty and i just chalked ot up to forza understanding what needed to happen 😂
At 2:00 you can literally see through the Ferrari testarossa
What is the star and 1 next to your 27 ranking?
