Girl thank you this game is brilliant. Wish it got more recognition. The way I see it there are two sides of the search action genre. Tight small scale highly designed and curated experiences like metroid and then the massive sprawling open world with shops and towns and npcs like hollowknight. Great to see we’re consistently getting fantastic entries on both ends. Also not enough people talk about the soundtrack of this game. Blending the music of Iranian folk artist mentrix and prolific video game composer gareth coker was absolutely brilliant. The soundtrack of the mask of darkness dlc is to die for
@@Cannotbetamed1 While I love the mechanic, the game seems to unnecessarily limit the number of memory slots you can use. It's also tedious to have to go through all your old slots to see which can be freed up. I think they do need to limit the number you get, or people would just spam it, but I'd like to see a big increase in the number of available slots. I know you can unlock more, but the number still feels restrictive.
Nice to see the series return to the simpler side-scrolling form of the original... kinda, sorta. I first played PoP on my SNES but they added many annoying extra levels (if I never see another skeleton with a sword on a moving platform in a game again, I'll die just a lil bit happier). Then I played it on PC and thought, "Now this is REASONABLE" and I actually finished the game.
I love Rayman Legends and this is the only review that noticed those insiprations, (coins and sand level) I got happy when I saw those sand worms on lost crown.
Color palettes are almost a lost art in modern video games. I'm glad you drew some attention to this game's visual style; I wish more games embraced color like that.
Yeah honestly I don't like how so many people are turned off when a game doesn't look like the David Cage or TLOU knock off with the same moody dark or faded colours and atmosphere. It's actually great to experience a game where you get more colour
Yeah it’s sad to see these big studios throwing art direction and style out the window in the never ending strife for hyper realism. Kind of sad that in a genre where imagination is the limit when it comes to visual designs, many developers stoop to just emulating what you can see outside your window. People consistently eat it up to which is sad
One of my favorite games I’ve ever played honestly. I think this game will fall under a lot of people’s radar unfortunately. Especially with Palworld being what everyone is playing. Great review though!
The Lost Crown is the perfect way commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Prince of Persia series. It serves to expand the game's universe, feels great to play, and (for those who want to) it can be played with the dialog in the Persian language. You can find that in the "Settings."
Saying it's the best since Hollow Knight is no small feat, specially coming from someone like you. I'm glad many are evaluating the game for what it is and not for what some want. I'll be picking this up eventually.
Just wanted to write and say you knocked it out of the park with this review. I appreciate that you let us know what platform your review was based on, you were concise, everything was relevant and no double talk or filler padding out the video. I really appreciate the care you put in to keep it spoiler free when describing everything. Bang up job. I do have a couple of questions if you get the time to respond. Does it properly support quick resume (I'm assuming it does but figured I would ask as no one ever mentions it) and were you able to try the 4k 120fps mode? Thanks again and I hope you have a great year.
Yes, quick resume works well. I didn't see any options for 4k 120fps mode (or any display modes). I assumed it was just supposed to run like that? However my tv doesn't support 120fps, so can't say.
Spoiler for abilities and mechanics: One thing I do wish is that the “time powers”played a little more with the concept of time. I felt they got a little basic at certain points defaulting to the basic tried and true metroid abilities. The shadow of the simurgh is such a brilliant unique ability the likes of which I have personally never seen in a video game. The rift ability is also really interesting freezing enemies and projectiles in time and pocketing them in a rift. the rest are really hard to call “time powers” like the double jump the dash the ribbon. I recognize they are necessary for mobility and progression and make the world more fun and simple to traverse. Just wish there was more of a timey wimey spin to them lol. Something like the time slow or time stop ability from Samus returns would have been cool to see. Maybe in a sequel but given the sales numbers it’s unlikely we’ll ever see one. Anahita has serious main character energy and a cold design but hey that’s just a thought.
I was fighting a boss about two hours into the game. It's this big guy who swings a giant pillar around. He has this big two hit attack that hits in front of him then behind him. He was charging at me and dodge rolled through the front hit of the attack and linked a parry to my roll which partied the back hit of the attack. I fell in love with the game at that moment. The gameplay is just so well designed and smooth. The exploration and abilities are peak metroidvania and the character driven story is surprisingly great. I'm only 6 hours into it at the moment but so far its up there with Grime, Iconoclasts, Bloodstained and Ender Lillies as my favorite Metroidvanias.

Great/honest review. I appreciate your content and am proud to say I am enjoying the game as much as you did. Ubisoft Montpelier really gave us a true gem. Such a wonderful feeling to be a POP/MV fan! Is it too early to say Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown belongs in a top 10 MetroidVanias list? Thank you for this review. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The common folk use Door Dash. Pam uses Air Dash. This is an aesthetically pleasing game, controls look tight and the artwork again is right. The "whack whack tree?" Is beautiful
I loved the demo but did wish that I could change the controls on PS5. I prefer d-pad for movement on metroidvanias and found the R2 on the DualSense a bit squishy for the parry - although I’ll probably get used to it. Definitely picking it up for the weekend.
started watching cause I was exccited to hear what you thought - but might come back after playing! Saw a lot of different bosses in the first 3 minutes and worried about spoilers :P
New to your channel, really enjoying your content. This game wasn't on my radar at all, will have to give it a go. Have you ever played axiom verge? One of my all time favourites
That does look like a fun game... it's almost like the Batman (NES) game on steroids. That double-jump effect reminds me of another game, I just can't remember which one. The swords remind me of Strider, but he only had one sword. This almost makes me wish my days of gaming weren't gone. 😄 Edit: Great editing... you captured your best moments. Oh, and that Sphinx boss... you just have to answer his riddle 😄. When does a regular joke become a "dad joke?" When it's apparent 😂 Sorry, I couldn't help it.
Yes, those lightning fast swords reminded me of that game. I only played the NES version, but I read about the Genesis version. I heard it was as good as the arcade game.
though it's not a metroidvania, another 2D game with very fast-paced combat gameplay goes by name of The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. Short and very good game with two separate characters that have their own arsenals.

The soundtrack was a great collaboration. I'm looking forward to playing the DLC soon.
The Memory Shard system feels like a game changer for how you traverse in a metroidvania type game.
Didn't Bloodstained ritual of the night have the same fast travel system?
It's really useful. Regular map markers are nice, but rarely actually help me remember exactly what I need to.
@@RameoMTLit's..very underated i actually think that Bloodstained is better than Hollow knight and Prince of Persia

Really looking forward to this game and I love how stylistic it is. I can see some Metroid Dread influence here too.
Saludos pam, me gustan tus reseñas
The common folk use Door Dash. Pam uses Air Dash. This is an aesthetically pleasing game, controls look tight and the artwork again is right. The "whack whack tree?" Is beautiful
Hey Pam! That’s what I thought! Prince of Persia was going to be amazing. Good work always!
Thanks!
Dang that's one heck of an endorsement. Pam is on top of the metroidvania games too. This one is going on the to play list.
I loved the demo but did wish that I could change the controls on PS5. I prefer d-pad for movement on metroidvanias and found the R2 on the DualSense a bit squishy for the parry - although I’ll probably get used to it. Definitely picking it up for the weekend.
I usually prefer d-pad as well, but this controls so well that I never even tried to change it. I saw in options that I could, but didn't try it out.
started watching cause I was exccited to hear what you thought - but might come back after playing! Saw a lot of different bosses in the first 3 minutes and worried about spoilers :P
Wow, this game looks incredible.
New to your channel, really enjoying your content. This game wasn't on my radar at all, will have to give it a go.
Have you ever played axiom verge? One of my all time favourites
I have played it, it was fun.
I love the look of this, it's a new twist on the Prince of Persia games.
That does look like a fun game... it's almost like the Batman (NES) game on steroids.
That double-jump effect reminds me of another game, I just can't remember which one.
The swords remind me of Strider, but he only had one sword.
This almost makes me wish my days of gaming weren't gone. 😄
Edit: Great editing... you captured your best moments.
Oh, and that Sphinx boss... you just have to answer his riddle 😄. When does a regular joke become a "dad joke?"
When it's apparent 😂 Sorry, I couldn't help it.
Strider is actually the game I most compared it to back when I previewed the game.
This review makes me want to check out the demo. The game looks really good.
Between a new Momodora and Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown, January 2024 is a great time to be a metroidvania fan
Looks pretty good. I may give it a go
2:21 Ah, a giant enemy crab! Cool to see the game features real, historical battles in ancient Persia.
