The apocalyptic world is the real world, the cube is society eating up idols, consuming their lives. I think she is mute: unable to speak out against this consumption (because she does sing during the wedding scene) and he's turning a blind eye to the reality of their situation, to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.

the talent IU and V have is just insane. they filmed this entire video and recorded the vocals all in a week. in the video IU is deaf and V is blind in his right eye. the acting they both did in this video is just insane. this should be made into a k-drama 100%. believe it or not IU was extremely sick with the flu when she recorded this song in the studio. she refused to stop because it needed to be finished before V had to report for his military service. there is a video of her and what she went thru during the recording. how she pulled it off and how amazing her vocals sounded truly shows how amazing she is. this is one of the best MV's i have ever seen. the storyline, the concept, the metaphors and the way they portrayed it, how they built their characters in a 5 minute video is just insane.
That dark shadow behind them in the woods is a piece of clothing from someone that was killed by the cube - there are pieces of clothing laying around the pool also. 😢

Looking back through past and present with the camera and imagining scenes that could have been and things they can’t exactly do. For example IU was singing in one scene but in reality she can’t do that anymore. In the end the truth is that it’s the end of the world and even if tae tried to fight the cube they both had to accept that it was over. So she covers his good eye to stop him from seeing the end. It seems as if the cubes are going around incinerating everything. Hence why they turned into dust/ashes at the end and their burnt clothes added to a huge piles of others burnt clothes. Giving us the idea that others had too tried to run and ended their journey together to the cube.

I view this MV as social commentary on young love in South Korea today. They aren’t getting married like their parents did because of societal and economic pressures (the cube) is destroying them. The see what could have been on the old school camcorder and are happy, but then the reality of the cube makes it clear that they can’t achieve happiness in the old way. They will love, but differently to the end without marriage because of the cube (current society/economy).
1. IU is amazing, and an entire rabbit hole. 2. I stand by that being the Suchwita sugar cube out for revenge. 3. So many tidbits that I could see as BTS easter eggs (Spring Day pile, camcorder from Life Goes On, presence of masked figures, etc) 4. This entire video was amazingly done, and the happy moments covering for what they're actually going through is both great and horrible. 5. Kill the cube, Tae! (his facial expression is on point, lol) 6. I will cry every time I see/hear this. (the camera dying at the end of their life/story, ugh) 7. Special Guest credits: Cube - no, too far, lol 8. trust me, i’ve cried every single time i’ve watched this mv. IU’s and V’s acting just… it was so amazing and just perfect and just brought out all these emotions from whoever is watching it. yes, IU is deaf (she’s wearing a lip ring to symbolize this & used sign language to talk to V) while V is blind in one eye. the cube is the “oppressor” of all things deemed “abnormal” -- in this: people with disabilities, people who do not conform to status quo. the camcorder symbolizes a world wherein there is no discrimination against anyone. a world where everyone is “free” this is also why there are scenes where IU and V in their wedding clothes look so beautiful but then cuts into the scene with them inside the photobooth and the photo that comes out is them still in their wedding clothes but they’re torn and ragged and they’re both scratched up and bruised. that last scene though 😭😭😭 when V took that pipe out of IU’s hands to protect her from that cube even if he knew it was fruitless… and then IU covering V’s good eye so he won’t see what happens to them. and to them both shedding that single tear~ 😭😭😭 and yes, that close up of IU covering V’s eye, they were both being vaporized/burned by that cube. the only remains were their clothes, floating down on top of the huge pile (similar pile of clothes to BTS’ spring day; similar meaning as well) yup. so now, i’m crying again 😭😭😭

The clothes you see scattered in the forest are those of previous victims of the alien cubes. The cube following IU and V seems able to detect the smallest noises they make while enjoying their last moments together. (Think of the movie "The Quiet Place") What do the cubes symbolize? I view this MV as social commentary on young love in South Korea today. They aren’t getting married like their parents did because of societal and economic pressures (the cube) is destroying them. The see what could have been on the old school camcorder and are happy, but then the reality of the cube makes it clear that they can’t achieve happiness in the old way. They will love, but differently to the end without marriage because of the cube (current society/economy).
1. IU is amazing, and an entire rabbit hole. 2. I stand by that being the Suchwita sugar cube out for revenge. 3. So many tidbits that I could see as BTS easter eggs (Spring Day pile, camcorder from Life Goes On, presence of masked figures, etc) 4. This entire video was amazingly done, and the happy moments covering for what they're actually going through is both great and horrible. 5. Kill the cube, Tae! (his facial expression is on point, lol) 6. I will cry every time I see/hear this. (the camera dying at the end of their life/story, ugh) 7. Special Guest credits: Cube - no, too far, lol 8. I'm not a k-drama guy, but I'd 100% watch this as a full length movie. 9. Love you Caitlin & Bubbles

trust me, i’ve cried every single time i’ve watched this mv. IU’s and V’s acting just… it was so amazing and just perfect and just brought out all these emotions from whoever is watching it.
yes, IU is deaf (she’s wearing a lip ring to symbolize this & used sign language to talk to V) while V is blind in one eye.
the cube is the “oppressor” of all things deemed “abnormal” -- in this: people with disabilities, people who do not conform to status quo.
the camcorder symbolizes a world wherein there is no discrimination against anyone. a world where everyone is “free”
this is also why there are scenes where IU and V in their wedding clothes look so beautiful but then cuts into the scene with them inside the photobooth and the photo that comes out is them still in their wedding clothes but they’re torn and ragged and they’re both scratched up and bruised.
that last scene though 😭😭😭 when V took that pipe out of IU’s hands to protect her from that cube even if he knew it was fruitless… and then IU covering V’s good eye so he won’t see what happens to them.
and to them both shedding that single tear~ 😭😭😭
and yes, that close up of IU covering V’s eye, they were both being vaporized/burned by that cube. the only remains were their clothes, floating down on top of the huge pile (similar pile of clothes to BTS’ spring day; similar meaning as well)

The clothes you see scattered in the forest are those of previous victims of the alien cubes. The cube following IU and V seems able to detect the smallest noises they make while enjoying their last moments together. (Think of the movie "The Quiet Place") What do the cubes symbolize? Who are the veiled people around them that don't see them? Hopefully, others have figured this out. I hope this helps.
