The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society.
Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are now.
Yes, a lot of ARMY have mentioned the pile of clothes and said it 'copies' Spring Day, when it’s not about imitating:
Both MVs use the images of the pile of clothes, and for both it is a poignant visual reference to the artistic installation 'Personnes' by Christian Boltanski, 2010. An installation which speaks of souls who weren't ready to die, but who died painfully ~ the implication being at the hands of others.
In the case of the IU MV, the 'hands' being society in the way it mocks (as in the faceless chaos of figures in the banquet scene IU and Taehyung fight off), marginalises and discriminates against those who do not fit into the box others/society judge should be the 'norm' (the box that is chasing them).
The pile of clothes in Spring Day was a metaphor for loss and longing; RM said it was inspired by the loss of a friend, but also the Bong Joon Ho movie 'Snowpiercer' and the book 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' by Ursula K. Le Guin; and though there are links that imply a connection to the Sewol Ferry disaster BTS have never confirmed it, (but I would say BTS would intentionally choose not to answer that question in deference to the families, as the references within the Spring Day MV say enough to not need confirmation).

V AMAZING acting out all these emotions of fear happiness sorrow furious, in a 5 minute music video is crazy because we see actors failing to act out a single emotion in an 1 hour long episode but here he is, the versatility is showing 😭They they forgot what they were running from because through the lens of the camera, they were able to just love and enjoy life until the reality caught up to them and they were taken away ICRY 😭😭❤

IU can't hear and V’s one eye can't see ,in the end IU covered the good eyes of Taehyung so he won't see the horrible ending in front of them ,im Stuck at how a single tear from Taehyung’s good eye traced its path down his face and IU’s hand gently covered his eyes, It's as if he found a momentary refuge in her touch, offering a subtle relief from the overwhelming sensation ... AH I CAN'T STOP CRYING 😢😢😢❤
The MV locked me in first, then I listened to IU's vocals, then together; I'm now waiting for the movie to be dropped. Alas, I know there isn't, but oh I wish there was.
Why can’t our actor taehyung have a happy ending in any dimension?!😭😭 but I’m so happy to see him acting again like this was perfect and beautiful ! The hill clothes reminds me of “spring day.” IU acted out as being death and mute while taehyung acted out as half blind but their love was so perfect, yet the world couldn’t see that. And when IU covered his non blind eye so he wouldn’t see but that single tear on his face left me balling my eyes out knowing he accepted the fate!! 😭🩵 but omfg can we talk about IU’s vocals and hear that last breath after she sang loveeee😩🙌

IU's voice sounds majestic and their acting felt so real. Glad that IU asked Tae to shoot the MV with her. Both of them are well respected in South Korea for being true to their craft and their kind personalities. These two were given National Titles by the Korean Media and netizens. IU "Nation's Sweetheart" and Tae "Nation's Treasure". Can't wait to see them acting together in a series. Thank you for reacting to IU's song.
The cube is getting rid of those that are "abnormal" to societies standards (IU being deaf and V being blind in one eye). But in their fantasy land, they can be "perfect" and live together. So sad!

I would watch every episode of this if this was a drama even knowing how it ends but really they completed it in this short format.
The song is really beautiful, I know IU is going on tour and it's unlikely that I'd be able to go to New York to see her but I've been really feeling like it's a one in a lifetime experience. she just has a voice that you don't see often and an ability to portray emotion.

The cubes are trolls/ media. In the MV, she is deaf/mute, he is partially blind - it may seem there is no fathomable way these two can understand each other. This video is dedicated to artists, great Korean idols. The cube represents the Korean music and film industry, where every artist is under threat of social pressure, where one wrong move can ruin their careers, where they can be intimidated by the media and end their lives, living under stress and constant fear. Through the lens of a video camera, artists, idols of many, are beautiful and happy, but in real life they are very vulnerable. The Industry sucks all the juice out of them and then throws them away as if they were old and unnecessary clothes. In South Korea, the big music lobbies have a way of treating artists that is scary. If they see that they are good and successful, they take everything and more out of each of them, becoming ruthless. But when they have been exploited to the point of exhaustion, they leave them aside like broken toys. More than one artist has ended up committing suicide. Everything is very sad. At its end the trolls/ media come to consume another artist and fandom and discard it like a pile of clothes and IU is ready to fight but V (the fans) steps in front of her to defend her and their bond, but they are met with a bitter end. A sad reality every artist must face someday. She sheilds V's good eye to protect him from the inevitable. .😭😭😭😭
The clothes are as symbol of the people that were gone, and a similar scene was in Spring Day to commemorate those that were gone
