IU’s character is deaf and taehyung’s one eye is blind. That’s why she uses sign language when they’re eating and she covered taehyung’s left eye at the end to protect it. One theory I read, the couple represents aging people who are close to death and the cube represents the inevitable death. They were reminiscing their youth through the cam recorder which is all cheerful, bright and colorful. However, the reality is not as beautiful, when it’s time for you to go, you have to go. They spent their time together loving each other until their last breath.
That's a cute theory but at the end , they both died so I think that one can't be considered as THE theory. Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone in the comments that he can hear what is coming but she can't while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

I view this MV as social commentary on young love in South Korea today. They aren’t getting married like their parents did because of societal and economic pressures (the cube) is destroying them. The see what could have been on the old school camcorder and are happy, but then the reality of the cube makes it clear that they can’t achieve happiness in the old way. They will love, but differently to the end without marriage because of the cube (current society/economy).

IU is deaf and V is blind, in this MV. That’s why she is guiding him.And that’s why she cover his left eye at the end. Trough the camera they see eachother normal and beautiful, in a world that seems to not accept anything diferent. So even if the world does not accept them and the cube follow them to destroy them, there love is the one who made them live and die toghether.

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone in the comments that he can hear what is coming but she can't while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

I view this MV as social commentary on young love in South Korea today. They aren’t getting married like their parents did because of societal and economic pressures (the cube) is destroying them. The see what could have been on the old school camcorder and are happy, but then the reality of the cube makes it clear that they can’t achieve happiness in the old way. They will love, but differently to the end without marriage because of the cube (current society/economy).
They did it amazing sooooo.....sad but I love it
