Judith gained an Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA), in classical piano at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium. She received classical vocal training but saw that she wouldn't make it in opera, so turned to jazz and folk. To see her versatility, it is worth searching UA-cam for "the carnival is over", "morning town ride", "the seekers", "durham danny boy", "durham the lord's prayer", "the seekers - just a closer walk with thee", "The Seekers Plaisir D`Amour", "durham just a closer walk with thee 1966", "seekers whistling rufus". There, that's a mix of folk, gospel and pop, and miscellaneous. Now for a big one: "durham sister kate". Australia's greatest singer? Hmmmm!. She's up against Dame Joan Sutherland and Dame Nellie Melba, 2 of the all time opera greats. There is good reason the Italians called Sutherland "La Stupenda". Unfortunately Melba was over 100 years ago. Her tone was described as "exquisitively beautiful" and "divine". Search UA-cam for "melba annie laurie 1916" (read the comments!) and "melba lo hear the gentle lark". The latter is a salutary lesson in coloratura technique, especially that explosive trill. Pity we don't have good modern recordings of her. BTW, thanks for the lovely docco 🙂
Judith was an angel and had an angelique voice. Maybe you could try some of her solo songs like " climb every mountain, morning has broken, muddy waters, always there...) You could also try to hear Kate bush : she, is a siren and she will capture you immediatly ("this woman works, the man with the child in his eyes, wuthering heights, moments of pleasure ..) Judith and Kate are the GOAT Thankyou
Her voice is beautiful. I always wished I had a voice like Judith’s, but sadly, I do not. This was brought home to me forcefully when I was singing a song to my little grandson to get him to sleep. I heard his sleepy voice saying ‘ please don’t sing mama’. Ah well!
