Hi glad you enjoyed the visit. There were certainly a lot of kids in the museum enjoying themselves, they seem quite well organised for the younger set and it was a lot busier than I thought it might be for off -season mid week . 😀
Hi Bruce , yes totally agree , I think we often drive past these museums too “busy” to take the time to check them out. There are certainly a few around Auckland that I’m always surprised how few people are there even though Auckland has a population of 1.7m. 😀
Hi Chris- Great photos and tour of the Museum! Interesting to learn about the history of the area and the gum business. That was a cool butterfly! The exhibits are wonderful telling the story of what the life and work was like back in those times. The mannequins were kind of cute! :)
Thanks Jennifer, The museum is a pretty good effort for a very small community with a permanent population of just 6440 (2023 census) , of course it swells a lot in the holiday season. 😀 I think insects set in the gum are very sort after pieces. An interesting thing about the gum is that after a storm with natural erosion of the old forests some of the gum can be found washed ashore on the opposite coast line, a friend of mine had bins of it , he says polishing it is his retirement project. 😀
What a nice museum, it's interesting to see the history of European Settlement (James Cook). It's also fun to see the dentist and variety of foods stocked in the cupboards. Fabulous tour. 👍👍👍
Hey thanks a lot. These little local museums seem to pack in a fair bit for sure. Sadly I’m old enough to recognise many of the food products and have horror stories of the school dental clinics before high speed drills and pain free dentistry !!😀
Hi, thanks a lot . We are lucky here being a small country pretty much in the middle of nowhere yet we have many little regional museums packed with interesting historical items and mainly run by volunteers. 😀
Oh Chris, on the money with this one. Fabulously edited giving such a lovely overview of the history and contents of the museum. You did it proud. What a lovely tribute to Whitianga. Shared. 🎶👌 Greetings from 'Up North' again 🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
Hey thanks very much, as you know it can be pretty hard doing these little museums justice especially with kids running around wearing period hats 😀 . There was a lot of stuff in this museum that I’ve not covered eg a giant butter maker which is a “you really need to be there and read the blurb “ kind of exhibit. On a different topic for quite a few years I’ve been watching a chap in Germany build a small crusing sailboat from scratch. He recently launched and has been sailing south with his daughter (sadly his wife died during the build) through the canal system in the Netherlands. Some very pretty countryside and right smack through the centre of major cities. ua-cam.com/video/0BodRvrz8Es/v-deo.htmlsi=kTb5Id7gWAnApNEx
Thanks Max , it’s been yonks since I was over in the Coromandel it has certainly exploded in Whitianga and that area since I used to come here camping with the flatties back in the distant past !!
Chris, so nice to see this place 😊
Thank you for sharing

Hi, glad you enjoyed the brief tour. Tomorrow I’m posting a short video about Whitianga where this museum is located 😀
It looks like it was a dairy co. built in 1911? Over 110 years old 😮
As far as I can tell it was 1924 😀
