  • Take an easy stroll along the well-made boardwalks, through native bush, to the lookout and kauri tree grove.
The Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society provided the signage along the boardwalk that winds through the park.
In the early years of European settlement, Parry Kauri Park was part of the property owned by Rev McKinney, the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in Warkworth and Mahurangi. The land was later purchased by the Simpson family who requested that on the sale of their land, the trees and bush be offered for purchase as a public amenity.
The two large kauri trees are named McKinney and Simpson in honour of these former landowners.
The park and the driveway into it bear the names of Harry Parry and Tudor Collins, local identities who were largely responsible, along with the Kauri Bushmen’s Association, for raising the money to purchase the land.

What a lovely walk featuring such the amazing Kauri, nice highlights of the variety of trees along the way. Beautiful boardwalk. The music is delightful with nature sounds along the way. Gorgeous bird in the tree. Enjoyed! 👍👍🌳🌳🌴🌴

Hi, thanks a lot 😀. This park is certainly much improved since my last visit about three years ago with the whole walk elevated and completely renewed , widened with proper handrails as well as a lot more tree and plant labeling. I have to credit Mrs Chris with the Tui photo, between her and the R7 she nailed it 😀

What a fantastic area for a stroll...and those first trees were huge!! Perfect bench for an Otis banana break! lol

Haha , yes the perfect place for the mandatory banana snack, you can take dogs so long as they are on a lead and of course stay on the boardwalk 😀You can see why the trees were so attractive to the early settlers , loads of knot free timber 😀

Really pretty park and photos Chris! Shame about the history and so many of these amazing trees being logged, I guess you could say most of them were cut down. Interesting that they shed their bark. Lovely new boardwalks! 😄👌🌲🌳🌲 Have a nice day weekend, Jen

Hi Jennifer, glad you enjoyed the brief tour, not on the epic scale of some of our national parks but very accessible, if my folks were still around I know for sure this park would have been on their to-do list for all their visits with me especially with the completely refurbished pathways. 😀
