One more way is to try to pull the inner leaf on the top of the pineapple. The less pressure it takes to pull, the more ripe your pineapple is. So you want to buy one that takes a slight strength to pull the leaf. Also be careful and dont hurt yourself.

A uniform color indicates sweetnes throughout the fruit, leaves that pull out easily and fresh, pineapple smell at the base/ bottom end indicate a pineapple picked when ripe. Pineapples will get softer but not sweeter. Put pineapple in a bag or box with a whole apple to hasten the softeness.

Best indicator of ripeness is to smell the base of the pineapple.
Best part was when the hand barfed. 2 minutes and I still don’t know if it’s ripe. Bottom line: it’s always hit or miss. Always. No one knows. Ever.
