Glad that someone else stumbled upon the strength of this build specifically with the Kickback + Shield and was able to properly articulate its strengths. This combination was significantly stronger back in the day when Veteran’s team ammo regen had no cooldown and you never ran out of ammo, but it’s still great these days. I’d always wanted to make a video like this myself to go along with the gameslantern build I made, but I’m glad that someone else did and was able to cover all the little nuances. Makes it much easier to explain things to people. I may as well just link this video there too lol.
Build ended up getting hit with a 1 node tax resulting in having to give up another toughness node thanks to the recent patch node shuffle that made Towering Presence at the top of the right side of the tree mandatory. This kind of sucks since it already took a survivability hit in the Toughness Damage Reduction / Suppression node swap in the bottom right part of the tree from the previous patch. Hoping that the tree doesn't keep getting shuffled around in ways that punish players for trying out these kinds of fun/experimental combinations.
At the beginning, you mention how meta discussion has a tendency to outright throw out non-meta picks. In my opinion, this is a reaction to a very vocal crowd that do the opposite, who has (since the beginning of the games life) thrown out the meta and pushed a constant message of "everything is good and equally fine and the meta is bullshit". I think it's just gotten to a point of outright hostility at times now. Discussion of the meta always seems to turn into "Here's the objective best" versus "Everything is the best, use what you want" and pushing absurd builds/gear like "Vigilant Autoguns are better than Plasma Guns" and "Wound Curios are REQUIRED for Heresy and higher". I think the harsh verbiage around the meta has simply spawned from these kinds of blatant misinfo being flooded in the community and rabidly defended when questioned.
Yup! This is a very well put together description of where Darktide build crafting is at. I do think the desire to outline meta so dramatically is a response. I think I've even done so before - It's difficult not to speak that way when there is a very vocal minority who believe optimization and skilled play/discussion is inherently bad for the game. I always fine this argument so odd, given how VT2's lifecycle hinged entirely around a competitive crowd in recent years - I hope with Havoc's induction, this conversation point will move toward a much more grounded middle on these topics.
@@Torinatorr Agreed, particularly in your wording "very vocal minority who believe optimization and skilled play/discussion is inherently bad for the game". I think I was looking for that kind of phrase myself, but you landed on it. Any discussion of the meta is still villainized openly, and often flooded with so much misinfo that it's hard to sit down and argue every incorrect point, especially when the only evidence to argue is anecdotal at best. It's a hardcore casual mindset versus a competitive mindset. Other games tend to separate these two crowds, or make the competitive content so high-barrier the casual audience won't easily access it without becoming more competitive themselves. In Darktide, you simply have to click "Damnation" or "Aurics", and let your team deal with your 3 Wound Curios Cleaver Grenadier Gauntlet Gunlugger. It sours the relationship between the two crowds. So ya, the meta crowd has become equally hostile and friendly fire is abound. Havoc could, indeed, be that skill barrier the audience needs to mend the wounds.
I just read that the Ogryn Talent tree is getting a few tweaks for the Grim Protocol update. So loadouts are getting wiped again. Hopefully the changes are a step in the right direction.
I'm glad you released this in time for me to get the FNP penance, before loosing my only justification to run FNP to a arbitrary Towering Presence tax. Honestly might still be justifiable, but it feels like the talent re-arrangements were made to specifically spite this build.
Steady grip being bugged explains a lot. I was wondering why my toughness just shot up every time i brace my weapon far beyond anything the node is supposed to provide. Good Video, i just wish you didn't have to remake it because of fatsharks inconsistent and misleading talents.
Bro, the shield moveset is braindead, heavy + block cancel turns my brain to mush, and the fact that ogryn holds a karking maul, but never uses it offends me
I do both! I don't notice a consistently different experience. Honestly, I made this video with a more casual audience in mind, but typically I would go triple toughness curios with the toughness DR node or 2 tough 1 max hp with no toughness on hit multiple or furious, but the 10% dr node and the 25 toughness node.
i re-recorded the whole thing and added 20 minutes because I wasn't happy with it and frankly was given some direct misinformation leading me to believe parts of the video were innacurate (when they were not) - I could have just re-uploaded the previous one but I saw it as an opportunity to improve some of my commentary. frankly I think this second video is worse, albeit more informative so idc overall
@@TorinatorrI like this video a lot. Your emphasis on your opinion while not butchering other opinions 24/7 is refreshing. You let other people have different takes and it's nice to see. I think this is a well made video and worth a full watch, sub and a hug
playing ogryn for sure builds trust issues with your talent. Really wish Toughness Replenishment would get renamed. It leads to a lot of confusion, the number of new players I meet who think the Stay Close and Lynchpin boost all your sources of toughness restoring effects (melee kills and such) is far too high.
I agree. If there were decent point buys with this set-up, I would go no keystone, but there really isn't. I like lucky bullet for Rumbler. I find I just don't get good value out of it on Kick Back as often and due to Surgical, going for the package with crit on lucky bullet ends up being a detriment.
@Torinatorr I can see that. Rumblr is so ammo starved that Lucky Bullet is very valuable. Kickback has a generous ammo pool imo and because LB procs every time you Ult, I feel the free bullet is very valuable. It's especially nice when it procs in back to back instances.
@@Jplane247 it's a pretty common choice for Ogryns. The main reason maybe players select BLO is because Kickback and Rumblr are single shot weapons. So when BLO procs, which happens at least once every time you Ult, you're going to get back to back shots with no reload. Considering the dmg on Kickback and the explosive CC from Rumblr, BLO gives a lot of value despite the % chance. It's objectively better than FNP.
@HansGrub Honestly I see most ogryn use stubbers with BLO cause it's the only weapon that gets value from the keystone. Seeing how if it procs with the other two it's just straight overkill and if you are using it with PBB you have enough reload speed that an opening between shots is a non problem.
Only thing I'll say is please turn off or quieten dialogue in future videos, words you say get drowned out when a character decides to chat, and with the quick manner of speaking you have i imagine some people might find it irritating or will miss things you say. I don't, but someone might, and it is quite noticeable
