For the branx pickaxe, it's light attacks are capable of overshooting bulwark sheilds as long as you are close enough. The first light attack is the most consistent, as looping light to block cancel will constantly hit a bulwark. So it gets that instead of the special pull I guess, or it's buggy idk but I really love it.
the Karsolas has an additional strike down as light attack; doing the special/push attack into heavy overhead strikedown and then following up with a light attack gives an additional overhead strikedown
The light and medium pickaxes' special reminds me of the bill hook special from Vermintide 2 which has that same stun/pull that is basically irresistible to all non-monster/boss enemies and is considered to be one of the best weapons available to Victor Saltzpyre.
thanks hank. loving these picks, hope this guide will help more people pick them up, especially the branx. that slowness takes some getting used to, but man, that strength against all targets is really nice
You can chain the heavy cleave after using weapon special on the heavy pick axe. Special-> heavy ->light... heavy... if you don't have stamina to push attack.
Hah. I came back to this video to look more closely into pickaxes while looking up the Ogrynomicon... only to have a durr moment when I realize that that guide is also designed by you (and a couple of others, I think).
It pushes well, if you have the bleed on heavy perk you could use it as a quick shut down after a heavy if it fails to kill, keep them from being a problem while the bleed finishes them.
Quick tip for branx, another way to combo into second heavy, is special bash into heavy. It doesnt use up stamina and is a little quicker at times. Situational, but worth knowing
to be honest it took me a few tries and both the heavy and medium didn't "click" with my playstyle at all. as i was on the brink of putting them down for good, on came the karsolas and i've got myself a new favorite after 3 matches and a somewhat cooperative hadron. now the "get over here" scorpion raking feels soooo good, just fishing a mauler or crusher out of the pond and whack it for good😅 plus the horizontal focus allows for skipping the confident strike blessing and still keep my toughness up in a pinch. thanking you, sah
Branx is a beast. I’m liking the new weapons. The special, while not super helpful, is still a nice way to push a bunch of enemies without going through the block-push motion. It’s quicker.
All 3 of these weapons also have unique sliding light attacks, just like how the reworked power maul got one. My favorite is on the Borovian, you do a sliding uppercut which chains into your light 2 and 3 (uppercut overhead) leading to this rly slick sliding double uppercut before finishing with a light overhead. Also you can do 2 strike down lights on Karsolas after a push attack or special, if you want something faster than heavy strike down into light strike down. That first strike down light in the former chain is also a hidden move similar to the heavy strike down. The Borovians left side light sweep is, to me, still a hidden move because the regular light chains vanguard attack comes from the right side, but we have a separate left side sweeping light to give us a consistent horde clear combo. Appreciate the info, I didn’t know the pulls debuffed the target with taking 10% more damage. Love these weapons so far
Just some updates for people looking at breakpoints. For Branx, you can hit the damnation 1 shot point on Crushers without Heavy Hitter if using Thrust, Crunch, and +25% Carapace. Also 1 shots Maulers on full charge. It already does so much damage base that I tend to run Feel No Pain keystone instead of Heavy Hitter for better tankiness on Auric.
The awkward thing for me on the Branx is when I try the horde clear combo, half the time the light attack just doesn't seem to come out after the heavy. Even just gently tapping the button it seems to think I want to do another heavy, or it just does nothing.
I was a Kruber Halberd main, occasional billhook Saltzpyre, in Vermintid and these picks make me happy. I don't know why but I keep dropping the horde clear light heavy combos, same with the new shock maces actually, so I've found myself using the wooden pick because it's just heavys.
Excellent video! Love the content! How would you build the karsolas light pickaxe? And how would you rate the pickaxes VS the shovels? My lovely MK 5 shovel for crusher one-shots is eyeing the competition ☺️☺️😘
@@alias-yv2ro Karsolas can be built all sorts of ways. Headtaker/Slaughterer for maximum buff stacking, Torment/Thrust to buff the strikedown combo after Special instead, Confident Strike + a Power Blessing for Gunlugger builds that just want to spam light attacks, even Wrath works for insane amounts of cleave.
Completely had no idea there is a light sweep attack on the Branx that you can chain, I just assumed its bad for hordes due to the game explicitly telling you that it has no chainable sweeps on the moveset chart!
I HOPE THE EMPRAH GIVES US BIGGER GUNS! i love that ogryns have two handed weapons now. The pick axe goes well with my miner back story. I would love to see las rippers, las cannons, heavy flamers, i know ow heavy bolters are a no no for ogryn in the main forces but maybe they could make an acception for rejects? I'm bot sure.
I think I'll be running either the light or med version with slow and steady. Up until now I've been running mkIV bully club with momentum confident on a 200+ toughness ogryn build as a crown control/tank (almost all my friends play high damage) but killing can still be a problem as bleed dps can only stack so high. But kursolas.... Get those heavy toughness regen skills plus slow and steady..... Not AS consistent toughness sure, but the single target is still good so... We take those.
ngl the end lag on these pickaxes kill the weapon for me. Is there a way to manage that or should I just keep to the kourk IV for the combo oriented gameplay?
If attack speed is a big issue for you, at most you'd want to try the Karolas first. It even gets a modifier for attack speed unlike the other two. If you certainly don't like that one I don't recommend the other pickaxes for you, because they do get noticeably slower and more combo reliant. The only work-arounds are block canceling (such as the 4th light on Karolas for the best horde clear) or purely knowing the combos. Lastly, the lights on Branx are well paced in my opinion and is certainly one of the faster pickaxe options in that regard, but it's horde clear is very slow.
What pickaxes do you recommend with heavy attack focused build? I only use the MK.IIIb for most of the time and am wondering which pickaxe will have a similar pattern compared to MK.IIIb.
Hey there, came here thanks to another video recommending your channel. Do you or the Ogryn community have a discord? I want to ease myself into harder difficulties.
Can you special after heavy on the brinks? It may let you bleed them with the attack before quickly staggering them off to a safe position to bleed to death.
The branx cleave just feels awful. If you screw up the cleave weave, you are stuck with no weapon up for over a second because you are stuck in the animation. Not possible to swap to another weapon also is bad. Might be just me, but I can't properly cleave through enemies because the attack is just so slow. Chip damage slowly drags you down, even when you take all the heavy hit nodes on the tree.
I love the fact they've added so much depth to these movesets, it actually makes me want to play ogryn more often, and not just gunlugger
Yeah, we cooked :D Pickaxes are the most involved weapons ogryn ever got.
Yes. As soon as I played my first mission with the karsolas pickaxe I told my friend "Looks like Ogryns back on the menu boys."

with the branx u can do special attack, heavy and light for clear hordes too
if you do a shove attack before that you get 4 pretty good sweep attacks in a row
The legends uploads. I was waiting for this the moment the update dropped! KEEP IT UP, SAH!
You can also get the underhand sweep up if you attack while in a slide. Good opener if you charge at an enemy.

oh the debuff on special hit is interesting, considering that we also have Soften Them Up.
