On Murder-Holes: I'm a medieval history buff, so I was smiling when you mentioned these, but just a few corections I wanted to make. First off, Murder holes are usually located at the top of the wall, jutting out. Also, no one has ever used boiling oil. Oil is far to expencive. Instead most used boiling water or even more popular, hot sand. There are several castles which famously had the garderobes (Toilets) positioned so that anything that fell would drop onto attackers. :)
@Senmetsu Flint and steel is not a light source. It's used to set things on fire. So, yeah, a burning tree is a powerful source of light but it's not permanent. It's also dangerous around your wooden buildings... fire spreads fast!
I ended up playing Minecraft using all of Paul's techniques and structures, and I have to say, until update 1.8, I used this particular series to help me make my own beautiful world (When it existed XD :P) Thanks Paul :)
Thank you for teach me how to build a (Murder Hole), and how to make bread. I build a (Murder Hole), and I trap 3 Zombies and 1 Creeper. It works great!
I love these videos, i do play minecraft myself so they are handy, but i just love how he goes off on a tangent, talking to pig and stuff, and again in this talking about murder holes haha, its brilliant.
I stumbled upon a video of you making a piston bridge cause id forgotten how to do it and i remembered your videos from back then man i was a 12 year old when you made those tutorials and i gotta say thank you for those memories and this feeling of nostalgia
Been watching all your tutorials up to this point so far and I have yet to play the game. Looks great though. Just what I been looking for and I love the retro look. Going to be getting this for sure when I have a free moment or two.
Oh my god I think this is a video I remember watching so long ago because the house is on a mountain and the murder hole is underground and just peaks out so you can hit mobs. I've remembered this since I was a kid.
@IZEASGT A pantry is a small room where you store the food... smaller version will be just a closet. Just make a room to store the food in various boxes and that is a pantry. I believe you are actually meaning a 'bag of holding' that adds more storage slots, but are achieved through an item in the inventory that is opened to reveal those extra slots.
I say that even though bread heals less, the grain can be stacked, whereas the pork, cooked or raw, cannot. Maybe you're in the middle of a dungeon dive, several leagues below, and you can't or won't have time to run back to your home. Just craft a bench where you stand, pull out the grain, and partake of a much greater amount of bread than you could with meat.
Lol! The bread that the devil baked! "So, hopefully the Devil, uh, the developer's gonna do something with farming and bread to make it more appealing"
I've made a rather large farm of several 4x4 patches surrounded by irrigation channels topped with pavement. Currently got some two or three hundred wheat and few hundred seeds. I also prefer pork, but wheat provides a consistent source of food.
@3HZBrutality I've noticed that a lot of times pumpkins usually indicate that a dungeon is near, if you find some pumpkins search the area and maybe start a mine. Hope that helped.
awesome farm and house its really cool, What I have done Is I cut into a side of a montain and made a house, 3 balcones, A huge pit and a little house ontop so its cool
@IZEASGT I see what you mean, a special storage chest that only holds food, and will stack even the unstackable items. Could just have it so when you click the stack, it takes only one out from that stack... wouldn't accelerate the retrieval, but would reduce the space required to store the food. Maybe if the item were 1 block wide and two blocks high then it could be called a pantry. If it is just a 1x1 block, then cooler would be a little more fitting... well, maybe pantry box.
@Esperologist I was thinking of something more like a chest that allowed food to stack in its own storage slots. Dunno how retrieval would work, though -- maybe if you selected a stack of four pieces of pork and clicked on an open slot in your inventory, it'd automatically fill that spot plus the three closest empty ones. Really, I guess the chest item is fine. Just seems a little inconvenient.
no beds until I believe beta 1.3. Paul has a more recent version of this called How to Survive and Thrive 2. It is just like this but for more recent versions of Minecraft, so I suggest you check that out.
there is something u left out, and that is a gate (or door) to ur farm. without it, animals can get into ur farm and trample and pigs will actually eat ur crops. I like ur idea of putting the water underground, i used to just put a random block of water in a hole in the ground and plant around it. Good vid though!
Minecraft players are awesome :) Before I started playing, I watched these addicted people and always thought they were just complete obsessive shut-ins. Boy was I wrong. Three cheers for the minecraft community :)
Hey, great tutorials, I have 2 questions and on one of them i sware youll think im the stupidest person alive, but here it goes, 1. How do you make fences? (not needed to be answered but id be happy if you did answer it.) 2. What does weed look like and where can you commonly find weed? plz reply.
@philycheesesteak2010 Spiders cannot fit through a ONE block space. They can fit through a space that is 2 blocks wide, though...even if it is only 1 block high.
did you have beds in alpha? i'm relatively new to the game, so i don't know much, but these tutorials have been EXTREMELY helpful, even thoug they're not in the right release, anyway, you always seem to stay awake the entire night, so i was just wondering.....
Farming IS appealing because if you have big farm, you'll eventually have plenty of bread, which you can use when you're at your home to replenish your health. This means that you don't have to waste your porks, you can use them as an emergency food (eat it in the middle of a combat, lol).
Iv been watching u explain this game and sersly now i cant stop playing im in the middle of building a castle allready put 4 hours into just making the ground plain O.o u one funny dude :D
GREAT BUILDOING MAN!!! and it's quite obvious why you had to go underground after this episode, hoes, and weed, and fighting your neighbors from your basement...
@paulsoaresjr Hey. The reason bread is appealing is: If you are hurt minor, and only have 1 or 2 slabs of meat, just eat some bread. Full health, and you save greater healing for later. Second, it is a lot more convenient then pork, as you may have a hard time locating a pig. I actually did on one world, it took me forever to find a pig. And I only got 1 slab of meat off of him.
the value of wheat is it allows for longer trips below ground cause you can't stack the bread.. but you can stack the wheat bring a work bench and you are golden
I don't know why so many people are down on bread. I love the stuff. Most of the time I only take a slight amount of damage from a minor fall, an arrow hit, or a creeper exploding nearby, and it seems a shame to waste pork when all you need to do is top off your health. And of course if no pigs spawn nearby, you're screwed. As someone mentioned previously, its easier to carry around a bunch of wheat and a workbench, to just make bread as needed.
@paulsoaresjr The second one you showed was three blocks wide. I don't know if spiders CAN actually get through, though. BTW, for fast travel down a hillside - I like to use a waterfall.
@MyraMidnight it absolutely does. I just make an irrigation system and then cover it with half-blocks above the water so it doubles as water and walkways. :D
Creeper 1: "Dude! Dude! Get over here! He's recording stuff!"
Creeper 2: "What? Sweet!"
LOL

Dang, both your tower and your farm look really nice at a distance when it's dark with the torches and stuff.
I still play Alpha 1.1.2_01 every now and then. It's crazy to think how far the game has come!
even crazier now...
You have the best tutorials i love more watching them than playing my self :)
These are my favorite minecraft tutorials
Thank you for teach me how to build a (Murder Hole), and how to make bread. I build a (Murder Hole), and I trap 3 Zombies and 1 Creeper. It works great!
this is one of the coolest games i've seen i must have it.
"I could imagine some other things coming through those holes..."

Your tutorials are so informative and amazing. Couldn't do without them. Thanks for those! :)
Been watching all your tutorials up to this point so far and I have yet to play the game. Looks great though. Just what I been looking for and I love the retro look. Going to be getting this for sure when I have a free moment or two.
bread is actually really good.
just carry it as wheat and bring a workbench with and make it when you need it
It's amazing to see how far you've come from this point t where you are now
Oh my god I think this is a video I remember watching so long ago because the house is on a mountain and the murder hole is underground and just peaks out so you can hit mobs.
I've remembered this since I was a kid.
Here's a comment to fix the fact that no one has commented in a year lol, love you Paul.
Barring what you carry for emergency use (during combat) it's more efficient to carry the wheat (and a workbench), since the wheat does stack.
your farm is just so awesome love it :)
@IZEASGT A pantry is a small room where you store the food... smaller version will be just a closet.

Your survive video's are great, I've learned alot from them. :3
People fail to realize some items and blocks just weren't this earlier in the game. Such as beds. Beds were not in this version yet.
the murder holes idea is genius! im definitely going to use them
When it starts to get dark i begin to freak out and run for home lol.
You're so relaxed!
I say that even though bread heals less, the grain can be stacked, whereas the pork, cooked or raw, cannot. Maybe you're in the middle of a dungeon dive, several leagues below, and you can't or won't have time to run back to your home. And I got a little friend here. Ouuh, or not so much friend.
Love the way he says this. U rock Paul, u really do!
TBH, this guy's a really great narrator. doesnt bore me at all :)
Best tutorials EVAR!!!!!! i just started watching tonight and im already on no. 9!
@Makrillol I love when they battle each other. :)
youve brought so many into minecraft that notch should give you commission for each video
Lol! The bread that the devil baked! "So, hopefully the Devil, uh, the developer's gonna do something with farming and bread to make it more appealing"
Man this isnt a house, this is a fort :)
@paulsoaresjr Hey, Are you currently in the making of a tutorial?
If so how long till it's out? I'm addicted to these! They're so entertaining!
OMG this is so entertaining !
I've made a rather large farm of several 4x4 patches surrounded by irrigation channels topped with pavement. Currently got some two or three hundred wheat and few hundred seeds.
I also prefer pork, but wheat provides a consistent source of food.
@ORCA4312 Oh, that one! Yeah, that was over by my farm. I thought you meant the holes in my basement. :)
i am new to minecraft and your videos have helped a lot, thanks
@3HZBrutality I've noticed that a lot of times pumpkins usually indicate that a dungeon is near, if you find some pumpkins search the area and maybe start a mine. Hope that helped.
Paul it awesome I can't stop watching ur old vids !
you are incredible at tutorials... I will come to you from now on on new rpg's :)
The farm looks better now! love it.
You could just carry 63 wheat, which stack, and a workbench to a dungeon, craft 11 breads, and they restore 27,5 hp.
This is CLEVER. the murder holes I mean. I'm definitely remembering this.
i miss this
Some of the tips are really handy. Will keep it in mind when Im online again. BTW: Some background music would be good.
@ORCA4312 True. Excellent point. Even my little farm cranks out the wheat.
@paulsoaresjr wow the view from your base to your farm is cool
Yes, in the full release of minecraft wheat can be used to farm and breed cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep
awesome farm and house its really cool, What I have done Is I cut into a side of a montain and made a house, 3 balcones, A huge pit and a little house ontop so its cool
@LordEmilous Ugh, stairs are a pain. I think they are supposed to be fixed so they don't change facing once you place them down.
Hey great tutorials :D
I think you should make a ladder going down so it would be easier for you to get down to your garden :)
this series is epic!!!!!!!!!!!
You're a really smart player!
with each toutorial i lov your house more
best tutorial for minecraft. all i have to say.
@IZEASGT I see what you mean, a special storage chest that only holds food, and will stack even the unstackable items. i dont have minecraft its just fun to watch an expert at work
@trucksd1 Is that a bug? I did not know that...

I'm watching all of your minecraft videos and subscribing
to get up to your house and to your farm, build a roller-coaster!
You killed the olsen twins, THANK YOU!
there is something u left out, and that is a gate (or door) to ur farm. without it, animals can get into ur farm and trample and pigs will actually eat ur crops. I like ur idea of putting the water underground, i used to just put a random block of water in a hole in the ground and plant around it. Good vid though!
murder holes sound so nice
love at the end he says "this is how i mark things, two steps then ohh..." (roughly what he said)
Minecraft players are awesome :)
Before I started playing, I watched these addicted people and always thought they were just complete obsessive shut-ins. Boy was I wrong.

OMG uploaded on my birthday!!!
Great tutorials!! i love them!! i just had a quick question. Will your wheat ever wilt or die?
GREAT BUILDOING MAN!!! and it's quite obvious why you had to go underground after this episode, hoes, and weed, and fighting your neighbors from your basement...
you could use some waterfall if you live that high.
So you can easily climb up or fall down.
And I only got 1 slab of meat off of him.
you have such a nice village
It's funny how he gets off topic and goes into what might come out of those 'Murder Holes'.
dude your awsome at this keep playing
Murder holes were put in the overhangs of the walls so that bad things could be dropped on the atackers
hey dude i love your videos thanks for making them
Great tutorials
the value of wheat is it allows for longer trips below ground
cause you can't stack the bread.. but you can stack the wheat
bring a work bench and you are golden
Uhh TIP: Holding Left Shift (sneak) while on crops wont destroy them. :B Quite useful.

@paulsoaresjr The second one you showed was three blocks wide. I don't know if spiders CAN actually get through, though.
BTW, for fast travel down a hillside - I like to use a waterfall.
you should put an arrow dispenser unit inside the murder holes with a pressure plate in there. it will do all the work automatically
I love your channel
@MyraMidnight it absolutely does. I just make an irrigation system and then cover it with half-blocks above the water so it doubles as water and walkways. :D
your awesome i like your videos your my frist person that got me on to youtube and minecraft
