That was a good save the first time you fell in the lava. I've lost two full sets of diamond armor and tools that way....I think I'll be bringing water from now on. I have to say the one thing that bugs me is that you can't change your spawn point through normal means. You should be able to use a bunch of diamond (maybe even blocks) and other rare material to craft a new one.
On the bright side.. you really taught your lessons well by demonstrating exactly why we shouldn't dig the block we're standing on.. and why we should not be greedy around lava :)
I think I read this story in a minecraft tutorial book once, where you were mining redstone, but got pushed by a Zombie into the lava. Remember getting the book almost 10 years ago. And I still have it. Good menories
Good tip for mining, if you branch out place your torches on one side ONLY or make occasional arrows with signs. For example, my mines directions are, torches on right lead up to surface or center mine, left im heading away
Two things can happen when lava and water contact. If water comes into contact with lava source blocks (the block from which any flowing lava originates), obsidian is formed. But if water comes into contact with flowing lava, cobblestone is formed. Hope this helped.
paul go back to this series and play alpha the same version you are playing in this episode. when i first started playing minecraft in 1.8 i watched all your series and it helped me so much and your vids have given me the best minecraft memories
I am so lucky that I got 24 diamonds in the beginning of me playing minecraft and I made diamond armor. Now no mob can kill me except the guardian, wither and the ender dragon.
@COD22201 no you don't loose all ur homes and stuff. U drop all items in ur inventory, but u can recollect them if you find them, and it is definitly worth 20 bucks.
Hey paul, Idk if you'll see this or not, but you can be much more safe when around lava and things like that by holding the shift key while walking around, it'll keep you from falling off of blocks.
@paulsoaresjr if you get a couple buckets of lava, you can build a small incinerator that will effectively delete items... pour the lava in a small stone ditch in or near your house, dont have wood near it as it will catch it on fire... also having a small pool of water nearby will protect you from accidents
@Beckster422 I have a thesaurus in my lap. hehe, not really... Words just seem to roll out. Not sure where "howling" came from, though--must have been my beagle in the backyard.
@wwwFailRofl Only diamond picks will yield a block, though. So if you're using a non-diamond pick, it's like when your mom said "Go pound sand!" ... because you ain't gonna get anything out of it 'cept a few blisters.
Is this the episode that is semi mentioned in the essential hand book? Aka when paul gets redstone over lava and walks back only to be punched by a zombie into the lava???(but this time he can't save him self) lol!! I was looking 4 this... Lol! It is!!!!!!😂😂😂😂 it's the example in the Minecraft essential handbook!!😂😂 it's okay thay happened 2 by friend Before. u handled it better than him! He was so mad it was so funny though!!😂😂
@codemax5 1: It's Obsidian, not obsiden or orient. Awesome stuff in real life. Very pretty, very sharp. 2: I was making a reference to Portal, not the Nether in Minecraft. In Portal, the computer making you solve puzzles tells you "Android Hell is a real place that you will be sent to at the first sign of defiance.", hence Paul's breaking of the rules and subsequent punishment by being sent into a fiery place.
You done goof'd! All I could think about when you were mining that red ore was "don't ever dig directly down!" And sure enough... But you're still awesome at this :P I wouldn't have even gone this far down before I worked more aboveground.
hey man i think about buying this game you can do so much! i thought you could only farm and build a house for defend against monsters but you can sure do hell of alot more. i watched them all since this one. thanks man i really learned alot!
I'm pretty sure upgraded weapons don't do more damage. They only degrade slower than lower quality weapons. Wooden swords/bows do the same amount of damage as diamond swords/bows.
i think the best way to get good minerals is just to dig a stair tunnel under your house and at almost the lowest point just start making a huge room, you will certainly find cool stuff! ; )
i love ur series i already started playing before i found it but i still learned heaps i restarted and used my newknowlage i just making my lookout tower
@JaredTheTwitch Like everyone else said better material weapons do more damage but also something I've noticed is that better material tools mine/cut faster as well.
I was watching a few seed generator tips comign across one that is near a lava source, there is actually clay? and a water source. so I may start over again :D your amazing keep up the good work
you can use lava instead of coal to burn stuff in the furnace. one bucket of lava processes 100 block units whereas 1 unit of coal just 8 blocks. (mind you, if you put the lava bucket into your furnace you'll lose the bucket too)
@Pst0ner I resemble that comment! :P I'm actually quite a darn good FPS player! The problem with Minecraft is I can't remap my system like I do with FPS. Compound that with the fact that I'm trying to make a TUTORIAL and multi-tasking... sheesh. Just wait till I start recording BadCompany2 and STALKER. So there. :P
@gamingsiblings18 thats a very precious blue/white/black rock, and it can be used for jewels and other things, i know that because that rock can be found in my country
The same fate you experienced near the end happened to me as well. Except Diamonds were the source of my greed. I had just crafted a few diamond tools and decided to explore a little more while I melted some iron ore, and I ended up falling into a very tiny hole in the floor that I failed to cover up earlier that lead straight to lava. I cried on the inside... I miss my diamonds :'(
@andrei1231 I was waiting for a fix for the new Playclaw version (my recording software) but apparently it's not coming out for a week or more! So I'll have to reinstall the old version and deal with the low game sounds one...more...time. :(
Mate, you took that well... I'd have been furious! Same thing happened to me in a bedrock cavern, with a bag full of diamonds & gold. I was foaming at the mouth! Note to self: take more chests.
I had found a massive natural cave, lots of mineral, diamond, etc. I had a lot of cool stoof, and then I died by mistake (fell into lava) and didn't make it fast enough to get all my loot back... So, I raged quitted the game, and came back to UA-cam to finish all your videos :)
@deathsytche054 in all of hi episodes that happened, he says how to survive in a island and how to upgrade your house and equipment. In this he said how to take material for his survival
You know what they should add to MineCraft? SHOPS. There could be some NPC's running them, and you can buy stuff with gold and stuff. Just something to make gold have more of a purpose.
first if you see spiders that far down under sea level, there is a dungeon near. Next, the best way to get what you want is to did a 2x2 pit down till you hit bedrock then you make a water ladder. when that is done you mine like this x1xx1xx where the x are stone and the 1's are tunnels. i would start on level 10 or 12. you get diamond and redstone out the rear.
This video should've been named "What happens when you dig straight down".
Number one rule
8:27 The first YOLO???
Jacob Banerjee the English translation of "one lives but once in the world" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from his 1774 German play Clavigo.
Back in the day iron was kinda rare.
Yep stone was the best in the first survival update
I can't find iron now XD
On the bright side.. you really taught your lessons well by demonstrating exactly why we shouldn't dig the block we're standing on.. and why we should not be greedy around lava :)
lol right
@MichaelTheCook Dig in gravel for flint. It's a random chance but it's a high probability of a drop for each block. Just keep digging...
he handled that death pretty good
I think I read this story in a minecraft tutorial book once, where you were mining redstone, but got pushed by a Zombie into the lava. Remember getting the book almost 10 years ago. And I still have it. Good menories
I came to this video because I saw the thumbnail and I wanted to see if this was the moment he mentioned in the book
8:26 On the 3rd of October 2010 paul started yolo
@Nicolasuss My pleasure.
12:23 this is what he said happened in the minecraft book
Yeah!
@GreenGoblen27 All the worlds are generated randomly. No two worlds are ever the same.
@MrQueeer Yeah, a real knee-slapper... :P
@theOXdude Nada. Day is 10 minutes, night is 7. Sunrise and sunset are 1.30 each. :)
8:27 YOLO! :D
Good tip for mining, if you branch out place your torches on one side ONLY or make occasional arrows with signs. For example, my mines directions are, torches on right lead up to surface or center mine, left im heading away
he started YOLO!
@aantiawp True. No sense getting all worked up over it, right?
I have a book and the same thing happen to him
but he is in the book
checked every video to see that XD

you really should save the iron pickaxe for last, and who else is watching this in 2015!
Me
me
paul go back to this series and play alpha the same version you are playing in this episode. when i first started playing minecraft in 1.8 i watched all your series and it helped me so much and your vids have given me the best minecraft memories

I've not even tried Minecraft (YET!), but I've still watched these 13 parts out of pure entertainment value :) great job dude! :)
God i remember watchin this eries when i bough minecraft two years ago i had no idea what to do until started watching paul
all these videos helped me find my way
@paulsoaresjr if you get a couple buckets of lava, you can build a small incinerator that will effectively delete items... pour the lava in a small stone ditch in or near your house, dont have wood near it as it will catch it on fire... also having a small pool of water nearby will protect you from accidents
Memories -3 I'm like pro at hardcore but he still guides me to the simplest tricks I've kept forgetting.
i love watching these videos while playing minecraft in 1.4.4
Paul i was one of your first couple of thousand subscribers and im still re watching all of your videos! They are brilliant! Keep making them! :)
Considering ordering a t-shirt with the words "Never Dig the Block Your Standing On"
Quite philosophical... and a good literal tip :)
@Beckster422 I have a thesaurus in my lap. hehe, not really... Words just seem to roll out. Not sure where "howling" came from, though--must have been my beagle in the backyard.
@wwwFailRofl Only diamond picks will yield a block, though. So if you're using a non-diamond pick, it's like when your mom said "Go pound sand!" ... because you ain't gonna get anything out of it 'cept a few blisters.
hi you are the reason i love minecraft
Love this series
@Apapilootoe that would be amazing i would watch them over and over
that killed when you fell in the lava....really liking the videos, awesome job
Dude, the moment you started digging that first redstone I almost shouted: NO! You broke rule 1!
@bobthechicken314 Heh, I call that the "Indiana Jones Holy Grail Syndrome"... I can reach it! Oops.
I love your series, but i'm still trying to get mineraft and your videos make it look great.
@megacolnic Rule #1 of Minecraft. I should start playing by the rules, eh?
Biggest question I have, if you have a fully lit cave, will you be safe from monsters even at night? Or will they just spawn randomly?
Is this the episode that is semi mentioned in the essential hand book? Aka when paul gets redstone over lava and walks back only to be punched by a zombie into the lava???(but this time he can't save him self) lol!! I was looking 4 this...

That cavern is INSANE!! I can't believe your luck!
@ShreeyamNET I play Normal for the tutorials. PLus my armor absorbs damage.
i dont even play mind craft and this video still entertains me.lol. this is making me wanna play, think i might!
its amazing how paul stays so calm in the caves lol. That was a bummer he died though.. but great tutorial
I am just addicted to these videos!!!!!! *help me stop* LOL
Ive seen all your vids up to 13 you are awesome im going to follow all your advice when i get minecraft tomorrow
@WindowsVista562 Nice trick! Will give it a try. Thanks.
Rofl, you sounded like the grape lady when you fell into that lava at the end. Classic.
7:37 The way you said "Kind" made me lol
i have spend hours just watching those tutorials!!!!!
You done goof'd!
All I could think about when you were mining that red ore was "don't ever dig directly down!" And sure enough...
But you're still awesome at this :P I wouldn't have even gone this far down before I worked more aboveground.
Thanks for telling me stuff about minecraft. Now I know a lot more!
@cmpunk1930 So there is a small chance of a drop with an iron pick? Really... Video or it didn't happen! :P
Wait, I remember this not only from nostalgia, but he also mentioned this video in the Minecraft Essential Handbook.
hey man i think about buying this game you can do so much! i thought you could only farm and build a house for defend against monsters but you can sure do hell of alot more. i watched them all since this one. thanks man i really learned alot!
You're good at demonstrating your rules
11:32 that's the moment in the MC essentials book luv it
I'm pretty sure upgraded weapons don't do more damage. They only degrade slower than lower quality weapons. Wooden swords/bows do the same amount of damage as diamond swords/bows.
you really helped me because when i started playing i didnt now how to play but you thought me every thing i now so far
i think the best way to get good minerals is just to dig a stair tunnel under your house and at almost the lowest point just start making a huge room, you will certainly find cool stuff! ; )
i love ur series i already started playing before i found it but i still learned heaps i restarted and used my newknowlage i just making my lookout tower
@ChriswithMatt *shhhh*! :)
@janwarrock Yes, it does. With the new halloween update there are biomes and you can actually wonder in to snowy areas.
@paulsoaresjr When are you preparing to upload part 14? I am gonna die without it!
This series is so nostalgic for me...
+Travikius R omg IKR
same:)
@JaredTheTwitch Like everyone else said better material weapons do more damage but also something I've noticed is that better material tools mine/cut faster as well.
I just want to watch all your minecraft videos
I was watching a few seed generator tips comign across one that is near a lava source, there is actually clay? and a water source. so I may start over again :D your amazing keep up the good work
Thanks to your helpful tips I have really survived in minecraft Thanks!
lol love the timing for him saying i can't believe i survived
What difficulty do you play it at? The arrow seems to have only taken 1 heart. It takes 4 of mine :(
you can use lava instead of coal to burn stuff in the furnace. one bucket of lava processes 100 block units whereas 1 unit of coal just 8 blocks. (mind you, if you put the lava bucket into your furnace you'll lose the bucket too)

@gamingsiblings18 thats a very precious blue/white/black rock, and it can be used for jewels and other things, i know that because that rock can be found in my country
dude awsome vids ive subscribed... when i first spawned i was in a valley much like ures and so decided to make a dirt house for my first night lol.
I wish I could find a cave system that badass...
You are the Bob Ross of game commentary.
Oh noes! Paul dug directly down! Lol that surprised me a lot.
I advice you to use stone stuff as much as possible. But don't forget stuff like diamond, gold and red stone isn't able to get using stone pick
your tutorials are fun!
I had found a massive natural cave, lots of mineral, diamond, etc. I had a lot of cool stoof, and then I died by mistake (fell into lava) and didn't make it fast enough to get all my loot back... So, I raged quitted the game, and came back to UA-cam to finish all your videos :)
I don't think you will get back until I watch the next episode.
I wish I could find a cave this epic in -my- world.
wow dude that was a nice save at the end ;p
@deathsytche054 in all of hi episodes that happened, he says how to survive in a island and how to upgrade your house and equipment. In this he said how to take material for his survival

wow you got respawned in the middle of the night that's nuts
i love how he breaks his own rule!
first if you see spiders that far down under sea level, there is a dungeon near. Great video bummer for the death at the end but it was cool!
🤣The ending was great.
I think your can use gold and redstone to make something that tells you the time of day. Could be useful for when your mining.
