How They Create Realistic CGI Characters

- This video shows how Weta Digital's Tissue software brought characters to life with more realistic movements in movies like Avatar. Plus, you'll see how new tools like Ziva are pushing the boundaries even further, making it easier for animators to create lifelike characters in real-time.
I would like to add some more points to this to give credit to the texture and lighting artists.
Shaders and lighting are just as important as the rest of production. Getting realistic light falloff and intensities in tandem with brdf textures that reflect lights like in the real world makes, literally, anything from a chrome ball to eyeball look insanely realistic. Without them any of this would look like a low budget cartoon network animated series. Lighting is really what draws the audience to the pictures and the one thing that throws people off instantly if it looks off from the real world because we look at light every single day without realizing it.
Like that shot in 8:41 with Will Smith's cg double... that little specular detail on the forehead's subsurface skin can make and break the difference between a real and a fake.
Audience never truly know what it is that's causing it to look fake, but they can tell that it's not real very fast. No amount of realistic animation can change that.
I still love the detail breakdown of the video, but I feel like other department needs more credit because they don't usually get it and it sucks.
Great video thanks
