@@wp7587 I've been around horses for so long now that unless it's colic or a suspected fracture, I tend not to panic 😂 I think I would have if it had gotten much bigger though. I have seen reactions like that before (on animals and on myself) so it wasn't totally unfamiliar territory ... Although I didn't expect it to re-fill and go for round two!
Aww poor Nelly, I often wonder why nasty bugs exist Ravers, I hope she gets better soon, I would put a good dollop of vaseline on the entry site hopefully it will help keep the flies away from it, tfs x Julie
@@raversmead Vaseline is an excellent treatment for so many ailments, equine and human, and it's much cheaper than most other things. The only drawback is that it's messy. But then all topical treatments are messy. I buy the biggest jar I can find. Some times it only lasts 1 year, other times it lasts 10 years. It's easy to find, even at the corner store, and it's a far better moisturizer than any cream, because it lasts. And of course it's colorless.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN I know, that was one mean bug to bite her there! I think the worst I have ever seen was a horse fly biting her on a nipple 🤨 now THAT must have hurt!!! Thankfully she was very tolerant and understanding as I removed said horse fly
Horses can have piriton. We have one that has these reactions. Quite a few have been injected by vet with cortisone. Whilst these reduced the hard lump a few are still there years later. Preventive wise we now have fly rug and use deosect which does work keeping the flys off.
@@raversmead hi yep every time a horse fly bites her. We have greatly reduced this via the preventative measures mentioned over the years. However, last summer she had none , this summer she has a few. The only thing I can say is fly rugs and regular deosect has greatly reduced this but now and then we get unlucky. They end up like hard pebbles under the skin that’s when I call the vet in. Vet and farrier says they have never seen such a bad reaction. I have asked vets is there anything better than deosect out there and they said it’s the best out there. It is expensive but because it has to be diluted a bottle lasts a few years do works out cheaper it the long run. The mares daughter ( touch wood) hasn’t had the same reaction and I hope it stays this way. Your vets can advise how many piriton for your horse. If you do find anything better than deosect please let me know, Good luck x
Oh poor baby.. 😘
Sounds like your having as much luck as us this so called summer, horses eh!
@@cindbin64 aye ... Maybe we'll have a great autumn/winter instead🤞❤️
@@raversmeadI do hope so 😊

@@juliederry3719 oh thats a great idea, I'd not thought to use vaseline. Much less visually offensive than the bright yellow fly cream 🤣
