Drove a Mazdaspeed Protege Turbo right after driving a manual transmission 2003 Lexus IS300. The Lexus felt "as one." The Mazdaspeed Protege did not feel "as one." Was whistling at odd times. Didn't make any sense times. So, that was very distracting. 100% fake feeling situation. The gear changes didn't seem to match the engine right. All I can tell ya. Felt like something that surely would break. The car did not feel like one machine, or one team. Not matched up. Opposite of a '89 325is, or a manual 2003 Lexus IS. Both of those felt 'as one"
Sure it's a cheap car compared to those. Not sure but I think it wasn't made as a sports car and it was just a family car then they decided to make it powerful
The problem is that these turbo performance cars need Bensin Octane +98 V Shell Power! Iran gasoline quality is shit! will damage the engine in long run
can find high octane fuel rarely but this is what we carguys accept for enjoying it btw personally remapped my 1.6 turbo protege with low octane fuel and use high octane at most for that time that i couldnt find high octane fuel this method doesnt worked for me about 5 years and had no issues in this5 years totally. sorry im not good at english
Mazdaspeed Protege Turbo is one of the best looking cars ever put out by a Japanese Car maker. Beautiful design.

BMW 325 IS and LEXUS IS 300 are RWD cars. Mazda Protege models are FWD cars.

I agree, it's not good but there is also access to good/premium/high octane fuel (also expensive)

yeah but remapping the car with low octane fuel will solve this problem
