The reason is it kind of sucks and you should probably just find a Mazdaspeed 3 but THIS IS THE MAZDASPEED PROTEGE wow turbocharged performance badged and in some bright mf colors and they made like fourteen of these so that means it's big desirable right? Not even at all dude not even at all
YOUR STICKERS ARE IN THE MAIL PLEASE CHILL

The specials are fairly high quality and the jokes are top tier
Yea i love this channel and they pick the perfect cars to review
I really like the mazdaspeed protege, but from a performance standpoint, it’s just a Lancer Ralliart but rarer.
and more rust prone
Looks like the Wish version Lancer too
Lancer Ralliart
Mazdaspeed Protege
Dodge Neon SRT4
Saturn Ion Redline
Chevy Cobalt SS
You can only pick one to drive for the rest of your life.
@@Weird.Dreams Mazda is better than all u named
@@Weird.Dreams Saturn Ion Redline all day. I miss mine.
To be fair, the Mazdaspeed Protege may not put out a lot of power, but it is possibly one of the most fun FWD cars out there. There is something about it's handling that is addictive like a drug. There is something very magical about it's handling package that a person will never understand by looking at the pics or specs of this tin can. I had way more fun driving one of these than I did driving my cousin's Lamborghini Gallardo. From my first hand driving experiences, I would put the Mazdaspeed Protege just one small notch under an Evo in handling. It's that good!
thats mazda stick shft for ya but ricers makes me hate modification and cars communauties
Stock for stock, the speed is better than Evo 8 in handling. Had an 2002 ES with racingbeat springs(stiffer than mazdaspeed), tokico shocks, front strut bar, and front and rear sway bars. Loved this car. It got rear ended and totaled. Got a 2002 Sentra Spec V after. Handled well but you could do things in the Protege that I would have never done in Spec V.
Vukos’ delivery of “I just feel like you can’t trust the seller because he sounds like an imbecile” caught me off guard 😂
that mans cant read so good
Vukos has some bangers, and he delivers every one perfectly straight faced.
I lost it at the “This is not good” from Haggard Garage. Forgotten memory unlocked again 😂
Core memory! 😂 They got a forever subscription from me now.
I had three brand new. They were cool for the time and handled well.
Why did you have 3?
@rustypotatos wrecked one, one was briefly owned because it was a lemon and the third I kept for a long time.
@KasperK-nj5lq They were $20,000 cars. Nothing rare about them at the time. Limited, sure, but not rare. And I never said they were quick. Cars, in general, were slow then.
These used to be my dream cars in high school. I was obsessed with sporty mitsubishis and mazdas lol
Copium in plasma form is my new favorite expression
8:47 "Guy needs to put a speed hole in his head" 💀
I haven't laughed that much in a while
made feed break character haha i was dying
Puchii adjust the fuckin gain on your mic brother!
Mazda speeds are rarer than rust free 240sx’s from the rust belt, for similar reasons
These did have a little Takumi-crafted magic in them. I think the time to own one was a decade ago though. The golden era of these has definitely passed.
HAHAHAHA you guys nailed it. These Mazdaspeed protégés are actually gems, if you can find one not rusted, not clapped by kids and not had terrible mods thrown at they are lovely cars. I think car and driver rated it the best fwd car of the era beating out integra type r. Let's be real, most are shit piles sadly but the 4% still out there in good condition are gold.
The move is to take the callaway turbo swap parts and bolt it into a clean p5. Those had better options like leather and side airbags, sunroof, spare tire sub etc but the turbo kit practically swaps over. Did 3 swaps this year so far on p5s, do recommend.
If the chassis is any good at all, an msp is absolutely worth saving tho. Not many around at all these days.
If there was a car where I can’t explain why I like it it’s definitely the Mazdaspeed Protege there kind of like a dollar tree fwd WRX STI
Technically the facelifted models are '03.5 and had pretty good revisions over the '03 which was a body Cary over the '01 MP3.
The '03 Mazdaspeed (pre-facelifted) came out in mid to late 2002 which was allowed to have a decent run before thefacelifted '03.5 which became more popular with new spoiler, front facia (fogs delete for better cooling for air to air cooler) retuning of the suspension and ecu ( I believe the gear ratios were revised too).
DO OLD VOLVO BRICKS NEXT
Is the Red Block the OG shadow economy?
I miss my 1994 Mazda Protege DX...I bought it brand new in March of that year and kept it for 26 years. It was bare bones and bone stock. It was slow and noisy. It was a manual transmission. It ran well with basic maintenance for the most part...the A/C got too pricey to fix and I kept it as a backup car as of 2010. I had to let it go after 186k miles and a $1k transmission repair would have been needed to keep it going. Good times indeed.
my neighbor had a protege 5, she was freshly in college at the time(this was 15 years ago at this point) sheesh bro. everytime i see one now i think of her, god she was hot lmao
magine smelling the seats 🤤
Just bought one, gotta say for the price I couldn’t find anything better, and I love it so far
This car was my introduction to modified cars
I met some guys with these, one making like 220 whp
These cars are basically fwd miatas, handle amazing, and super cheap to work on.
Takes a lot of money to get that 220 whp tho
220 whp is the limit of this car. More power It is stupid.
@@MDEV-86x86 you got that right, he had constant issues with it at 220 whp. Snapping axles, he blew two motors, but he always managed to fix it
@@Tachyon836 Think that older FWD cars had a limit... But It is a fun drive car. It will be interesting what brands- parts put on.
This was my first car! Paid $1500 CAD in 2016
Edit: the car at 4:50 is an identical spec to mine, especially the rust!
I need my stickers SOON
That ish in the mail ong
Mazdaspeed6 episode WHEN PLS BOYS
That haggard garage flashback sent me. "THIS IS NOT GOOD" lmao
Just bought one yesterday and it’s nice
My dad had a regular Protege 1.6L, while it handled well and was reliable, but holy hell did it rust. It would have gone a lot longer if it hadn't lost its rockers - I also had to put fender flares over the rear arches because there weren't any. Once we lost the AC and the fuel tank started leaking (rust), I sold it for $600 to a tow driver to use as a winter car. He got another year and a half out of it.
My buddy had a yellow one was a beautiful color tons of crazy pearl
I wanted the old Mazda 323 gtx I think it was awd hatchback and might of been turbo
I had one of these. They rusted out horribly. The turbos AWAYS leak oil. The 2.0l was a bored out 1.6 that was ready to blow from factory. Any more boost than factory (7psi) and your going to pinch a piston ring and blow the motor. It's known as zzb zoom zoom boom. I've seen the one being sold in jay Maine. It's a rotted out pos
what song is the song for the subie vape?
I almost got one of these back in the early-mid 00s. I ended up getting an IS300 instead.
Guy needs to put speed holes in his head.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏼
12:30 He's basically BackyardBroncoing the mazda
I’m actually building my Mazdaspeed and I have to agree if your buying one it has to be a project if it’s not rusting out the bottom and I was fortunate enough to find one with minimal rust but unfortunately they did a electrical hack job and no basic maintenance was done
So easy to work on
The speed protege is awesome especially for the early 2,000's. Unfortunately production was extremely limited.
I had a mazda protege 5 hatch on air suspension. Loved that car, didn’t love me back though
This is high effort low effort content on the level of an Internet historian side channel.
I would commit several war crimes in whatever shitty country vukos is from to get even more of this content.
The sad thing about these cars is that they are pretty cool looking cars stock. They were just under equipped and clapped out.
My buddy had a protege for a week, he bought it for 600 bucks running and driving, it blew the head gasket on his way to work and he traded it for a “$10,000” del sol. They are actually sought after.
Lmaoo this crazy cause ima gonna look at a 2004 Mazda 6 on Saturday
The Mazda 6 and Mazdaspeed 6 are solid
if it's the 2.3L don't bother if its over 150k miles those engines shit themselves and drink oil on cue at that point
the 3.0L V6 is pretty baller though
@@Delta_P_ yeah I decided I wasn’t gonna get it last night lol I saw a 2012 Mazda 3 2.5 S Touring
@@XeroDash0 jump on that, especially if it's a hatchback those are always good, the S is pretty optioned out and the 2.5 makes decent horsepower
No one noticed the last car had a 1 windshield wiper mod
That's my car. It's just been removed with a delete cap to go over the exposed hole. Lol
I miss the reckless riverboat captain line
From what I remember the msproteges had really thin/weak connecting rods.
My step father had a bright yellow one that he had such many problems with for years. He loved the car during the times he wasn’t haven’t problems with it.
I want to see a video on all 3 ZX2 S/Rs that still exist.
tell puchii to go to device manager find the blue yeti and install/update his drivers, then restart his pc. should fix if the gain nob doesn't do shit
theyre pretty cool, barely ever see them around here
That last car.. the "badass" hood. That's legit my car. Shit ton of pics to prove it. Its been professionally fixed and repainted with a pearl clear coat. It has every corksport part that was available to purchase back in the day. Full dyno sheets and lots of money invested. Haters will hate. But it definitely turns heads. Lots of people have subies but not everyone has a msp. 🤷♂️
Ive had two normal proteges, there really not bad as an econobox but the msp is definitely lacking in overall performance. Also finding just about any protege without quarter panel rust is almost impossible.
Was certain these cars all came from factory with rust.
Walmart Evo VI
Where's that black dude? Can't remember his name but enjoyed his take on these videos
Oh boy
Can you please adjust the gain on your mic?
@@invictus_1245 I have since we recorded this one.
@@CCFPuchii Coward!
I have one, bought it almost 5 years ago, for a project car, I haven’t gotten it running…
Had a buddy with a brand new at the time 02 Mazda Protege ES w/ a stick. Top spec, other than the soon to be top spec next year Mazdaspeed. That was a great car. Drove well. 140hp 2.0 DOHC. Was a better driver than the same year Corolla, or Civic IMO, and I'm a Honda guy.
i can't lie, i'm still somewhat in the market for a nice clean example, only because i have the regular non mazdaspeed version of these to this day. 345k on the original drivetrain and it still is a blast to drive. i think it has the same ethos in the ms protege as a miata where you don't need a lot of power but it probably is a hoot to drive on backroads. this car is gonna be with me till the day it can't drive no more, and after that i might consider finding a mazdaspeed version because i've wanted to experience one of these.
Mine is a 2002 5 speed regular 147,000 just threw the timing belt. Gonna fix it and do some preventative maintenance while my hands are in its guts
I have to admit, Mazda Proteges will always hold a place in my heart. Even after my hand me down 2002 Mazda Protege 2.0 LX Edition (or EX?) unalived itself after just having $1200 in repairs done, I still like this Civic Wannabe. That said, would I choose to ever own one again? No. Probably.
i own a protege5 hatchback but damn! its so fun to drive
as many people that have cloned the mazdaspeed protege into the protege5, every single one has its own magic. the P5 is flawless in every way.
me and my lil red wagon against the world
You should do a video on pre 80s shitboxes
The JDM Mazdaspeed Familia was more powerful than the Mazdaspeed protégé maybe due to being tuned to use premium fuel. My Familia Sport20 (protege5) was just a powerful as the usdm Mazdaspeed protégé
That clean Silver one in the beginning for $6k was a buy. People want $5-6k for busted up Big Altima Energy, rusted out Grand Prix with +200k miles, and so on.
I don't care if it's underpowered... I drive 50 miles/day in traffic and gas around here is $4.60 for 87 on average, so I'd be more than happy with a clean and nimble little Mazda for that price.
Granted, it's no DUBODY, but it's good economical transport.
That's my car. I'm from Jay Maine.
Not even joking. That was my ad I put on
Love my 1999 Protege
An old little four banger manual from Michigan? Yup, that's an underside full of car cancer and suspension banging into the wheel wells.
All is forgiven if it has Carplay
i daily one of these and I am scared every time I drive it, but it is a fun car.
Still waiting for them to do a 5th gen maxima
My dad had the base model 00' Protege 1.6l auto and it started rusting out before it was 10 years old. Then it became a rust bucket pos at 15 years. But overall it was a reliable car he got to 200k no problems just a starter.
I sold a wrecked one for $1500 4 years ago
Same horse pwr as 02 nissan sentra ser SPEC V

I like em alot
Yeah the FS engines are junk without a turbo lol. But the idea of the speed protege is cool. Bunch of aftermarket parts installed from factory from like cork sport and stuff

What was the song at 4:16?
These are horrible, they have no redeeming qualities except for making turbo noises but you would still get gapped by daily traffic 😂
