And I could neeverrr get promoted because my needs were always awful. Now I think back on this game and think about how accurate it is to real life and it’s kinda horrifying
this is what the sims was meant to be. I was so baffled the new games removed story modes. without any goals to work towards, what am I supposed to do other than...build a pretty house, I guess? if sims had kept story goals I'd probably still play to this day. I was obsessed with this game and Sims 2 on my PS2 as a kid and the handheld games are fantastic, I highly recommend playing all of them!
I think a free roam mode with achievements / goals / one MAJOR goal to work towards with the ability to keep playing after finishing it would be a good compromise. I wouldn't be opposed to a wacky full-blown story mode in Sims 5 but I will be extremely surprised if they decide to do that again.
@@AveryAnarchy I kind agree with the new horizons thing you said like I wish there was more to do in the game then decorate my island and house talk to my animal neighbours and a few activities besides that there's not much to do
Dude I was 7 years old playing this and fighting for my life. I struggled so hard with this one but absolutely loved it. The early 00s vibes were so strong. As a kid though, I always loved the handheld games and busting out for GBA was great. So many awesome memories!!! Thanks for covering this one
What made these Sims games more difficult besides the moods was the fact that there were NO WEEKENDS. So you had to juggle between keeping all your relationships alive as well as your job, life, etc. Used to be impossible for me as a child, never got past the first levels lol. Loved the vid lissy!
To solve that I occasionally skip a job day, as long as I don't skip for two days in a row. If I went to work everyday, completing the goals would be impossible for me.
Small detail but I always LOVED how this game’s walls worked. The subtle fade as you got closer instead of completely disappearing walls. I can’t help to imagine having something like that now in TS4. It’ll really make you appreciate and enjoy your builds a whole lot more. No other sims game ever did this. Also the loading screen was superb !!
this was SUCH a throwback omg. my first sims game was actually the sims 2 pets on the ps2, followed by sims 2 castaway and THEN I got the sims busting out after that and good lord was it hard. I spent all this time thinking i was just terrible at it so this was both nostalgic and incredibly validating
I never howled so hard while watching the whole romance arc from Malcom to Woody to getting a clown kid. This is the reason why we play Sims, for moments like this hahaha
@SilkyLew I think that's due to the fact it was an online only concept before it became "Sims 4". But I agree, sims 1, 2 , and bustin out had actually objectives and a storyline, plot, twists and a world of pre-existing characters who all had long histories with the rest ofbthe world, people, and environment
So glad you brought up the GBA Bustin Out, I was OBSESSED with that game (and the DS game Sims Urbz). I loved all the Sims storyline games tbh. Wish they'd bring them back!!!
This was my first sims game, It was a bit of a trip learning that pc sims wasn't like this lol, but the story mode was some of my favorite things about this game and wish it was used more in the other sims games
@@grimmquinn2003 yes! I had the same issue lol, got to Goth Manor, was overwhelmed and quit. Then I just moved back to Mimi to farm all the skillpoints before moving out again lol. I played this when it came out when I was a teenager. I had a lot of fun, even though the main story could be a slog. My strategy was once I moved out from Mom's I would max out all my skills and that way I could focus on career unlocks. Once I met the career's requirements to move out I would get another career path and then keep leveling up and moving. Made the game much more fun that way. And yeah, you can totally skip Sims 1 as the story mode was not as fun. The free play mode was arguably much more fun tho.
I was born in late 2000's but this game was my whole childhood since my dad has always been a huge videogame lover and we (plus my brother) used to play this together in ps2 (he never really cared about the splicit content in-game for some reason). I don't usually see many people taking about this specific version of the Sims, so I'm glad I found this video. Really bought some memories back :)
Omg!! I forgot they had a 2-player split screen.. although I hated how they split it into 2 triangles cause it was seriously the WORST way. My little bro and I had a blast playing it together.
Something I noticed when I played this game again a few years ago is that, if youre living at your moms house and your simoleons dip down into double digits, someone will call you on the phone and give you money. So what I did was bought a shit ton of expensive items (cause it doesnt count for assets) and when I left, my mom PAYED ME MONEY BACK for upgrading all of her furniture. I also just grinded away at skills so when I left I was at highest level possible and I never had to worry about buying skill machines for my character
I remember playing this. Getting a husband/wife was a must because you could have them make friends for you and they were bugged to never lose relationship lol
My absolute favorite game and my intro to the Sims franchise. The satisfaction of getting the last career gnome and going through the cutscene made me actually cry LOL 😂
I played this game for so many years of my childhood that it played a vital role in me getting glasses when my mom realized i was suddenly struggling to read the letters in the character naming section
It sucks that near sighted vision runs in my family genetically, but that makes sense now that I think about it. The xbox was the shiit back in the days. We had a schedule between all the siblings to play on it. 😅

Oh man, I remember playing this as a kid and having a Gameshark or whatever. My favorite thing to do was to completely redesign each of the houses you end up staying at. It was a blast. 😄
Lol, I remember how hard it was to have that "ultimate party". You had to have like 8 Sims on the dance floor at once, or some other ridiculous number. I don't know how I know that, but that is the requirement.
This is what I love about older games. So many secret requirements you have to figure out on your own. Or you just go to the forum websites to get help.
This video is honestly a masterpiece! The nostalgia & difficulty of older sims games was so fun because literally anything can happen. I miss how chaotic and fun it used to be. 😢
I loved this game! It was my first Sims game and was a great introduction to the series. By the way, there is a exploit to make this game much easier. You need to do it before you leave your mom's house. Basically certain needs, like sleeping, do not completely drain. So, you can spend as much time as you need building up all your skills before you leave. This means that you will be able to get promoted quick and you can spend more of your time focusing on the other goals.
I loved this game as a kid. My first game was the Sims 1 on PC, but this was the game that really got me into the Sims. It's an obsession that is still going
I played this game on the PS2, the first Sims game that I play and still one of my favorites. I completed all the goals, got all promotions and got to move in Malcolm's Mansion.
True nostalgia!!! 🤩 My man downloaded this for me and I’ve manage to unlock 80% of items, leveled up to 8 in all career’s, and it was still just as hard as when I was a child.
i was obsessed with this game and have lots of vivid memories of it; i'm not sure i ever actually completed the campaign though because it was so hard!?
One great tip is: stay with your mom until you maxed out your skills. You can also sell paintings and crafted garden gnomes for money to upgrade moms house early on. When i finally left she gave me like 20.000 simoleons. Never had to worry about money again. Moms house is also a great retreat if your sim is having a bad time. When i moved into a mew home i immediately renovated almost every room. In the club i even built a small house on the back for the three sims to live in. Places like the club and the gym had terrible living conditions right from the start. You can only marry someone from the three houses from freeplay. You can build your own spouse there and make them like you want them. Needless to say i 100%ed this game. I love it. The GBA sims games are waaaay different. You should really play those.
Dude I’m genuinely so stoked for the Gameboy Advanced play through of this, it was one of my first gameboy games and it is SO nostalgic for me. I literally was going to take it upon myself to make a video about it if someone else didn’t so bless u lol
I've never played the sims but i really enjoy watching your videos about them and I enjoyed the pikmin one too, I dig your sense of humor. Also you are gorgeous
I will never get over this game ❤ Edit : Oh no you made a move on Malcolm, I was about to tell you the lore but I'm glad you included it in the video 😂😂😂
thank you so much for playing this omg,,, this brings so much memories,,, indeed it wasn't all that appropriate for me who was super young, but i really just mostly enjoyed the freeplay (and somehow always fucking it up) but sometimes i'd go into story mode to get the cars ((i remember i used to argue with my brother bc he likes the blue car and i liked the red one better))
I remember during my 3rd playthrough, i realized that your mood doesn't go critical so you can just continuously raise your skills. I think you only needed to have fun and use the bathroom from time to time. You never had to sleep tho.
You should play the story mode in Sims 2 for console! That was the first Sims game I was introduced to and its pretty similar to this one with the goals and promotions at work! It's stressful but i think it would still be a good video idea
@@badbeachindustry1615 I only played sims 2 PETS on my DS Lite hahaha, do you know if they were similar? on the DS you ran a veterinary hospital and had your own pet as well.
Always loved the Sims, and I actually got the Gamecube version for Christmas a few weeks after it released, and I loved it! My first experience with the franchise was the PC version of TS1, and my sister, mother, and I were HOOKED on it since 2001
Great video!! If you ever play again, the game is a little easier if you do the other carrier paths simultaneously, because some of the unlocks increase your mood stuff quickly. Also, your spouse can focus on making friends that count as "family friends" for career promotion. but only a little easier, still a hard game.
I used to play Sims busting out with my big sister on her XBOX, I’m the little sister so I got to have fun watching her play, we used to make up stories together while she was playing lol This game was genuinely very difficult but I still have tons of memories of us in Dudley’s trailer or Mimi’s place, I remember we once got to Pixel Acres after months and we thought we were killing it with how far in we got XD
If you play it like it’s supposed to then yes it’s hard. If you level up all skills and build gnomes until you reach at least 20k simoleons before you leave your moms house you’ll be golden. I think there was some glitch where you didn’t get tired at your moms house.
Pro gamer tip. Move back to Mom’s house when trying to build skill levels or friendships. The bus for work never arrives and you never get penalised for absence. So you get to maintain your mood and improve skills with no consequence. Also if you’ve spent money ons property and need more, move out! The permanent residents actually reimburse you! Careful though, as they’ll credit you any money on items of theirs that you’ve sold or destroyed. Oh and if you dislike Club Rubb. You ain’t seen nothing yet until you’ve been to Toane’s Gym. Trying to convince those miserable bastards to join the gym is a hell on earth task. My sim was so pathetic that the only sim he could convince to join for the longest time was his own mother.
Bustin' Out was our second Sims game. I used to always just cheat to get my needs up but I remember Story Mode being soo much fun. I never actually beat it though. My mother did beat it along with Sims 1 and Sims 2 story modes and she also managed to earn enough simoleons from a high paying job on 2 Pets to make a giant mansion on the biggest plot.
This is why I loved the older ps2 games over PC, having goals and gradually moving to bigger and better places was awesome.. maybe I'm just not creative enough for the PC versions because I get so bored but could play busting out for days
i love this series that youre doing with playing all the old sims games Castaway, mysim and this! maybe for the next video you can try the sims medieval
Sims Bustin Out was my first Sims ever and to this day it is my fav. Sims games to exist. I remember how I moved from my Moms house to the house where the entire kitchen was in the garden. But most of the time I used to play freemode. I was like 5-6 years old. I also had Sims 2 and on PSP I had Sims 2 stranded but I still prefered Sims Bustin Out. I used to build several houses. One house was even build like a school. It had a music room, a painting room, working room, study room, workout room and things like that. I was just creative with my little brain. The only downside of this game was, that every house only had one floor. Or atleast I never figured out how to build a second floor. I was hyped about Sims 3 but this sadly didnt catch me up but I know you could build there a second floor. Sadly Sims nowadays is only a cashgrab anymore with all these dlcs.
I loved this game and still have it for the one day that I'll try to finish it, but today was the first time I ever saw gameplay past the 3rd house. Keeping your sim alive was such a struggle and I would rage quit before starting over later.
Remember playing this as a kid, for some reason i always thought that you had to do all missions to move out to other house, i know you can, but i felt empty whenever i move out and i still had missions left to do, so i was just jumping from career to career all the time hahaha
Bustin’ Out was my first ever sims game it’s what made me fall in love with the franchise, I was too young to even get past MiMi’s house back then so I’d mostly played free play and would be frustrated when my kids were clowns 😂🤦🏾♂️ for my birthday last year I got the game again, it’s definitely really hard but I love it
I grew up with this game on gamecube omg the nostalgia!! I played through it so many times, this and also Sims Urbz on in the City with the black eyed peas lol!!
You should absolutely try TS1! It's more focused on the life simulation aspects so it's a bit harder than the current games, but it's a "normal" sims game and not at all like the console versions at all. It's super charming and anyone who's played a sims game on PC should feel right at home.
Back in the day lol I started to sell Dudley & moms stuff to increase my mood to get better promotions at work. Later on I replaced what i sold with better appliances and entertainment. including room expansion. The game is about you and sometimes it benefits to be selfish. Read books, Get fit, make money become a simillionare. I love this game it is for sure a Masterpiece. Wish they brought a remastered version to the PS5. Dolphin emulator does a great job remastering it. Looks so much better on 4k
After watching all those older Sims games , i

thank you so much for playing this omg,,, this brings so much memories,,, indeed it wasn't all that appropriate for me who was super young, but i really just mostly enjoyed the freeplay (and somehow always fucking it up) but sometimes i'd go into story mode to get the cars ((i remember i used to argue with my brother bc he likes the blue car and i liked the red one better))
I love this game. I played it on GameCube growing up. It was so much fun me and my sister had our own save and would see who could get farther
Sims 2 on PS2 was GOAT espescially sims 2 pets. Spent alot of time on that as a kid
@@badbeachindustry1615 I only played sims 2 PETS on my DS Lite hahaha, do you know if they were similar? on the DS you ran a veterinary hospital and had your own pet as well.
i played it on PS2, I love this sims game! I love the music in it and also the vibes!
10:00 describes my daily life struggle so well
This game was so good. I loved it in my teen years.
The only console Sims game outside of Castaway I've ever enjoyed.
Always loved the Sims, and I actually got the Gamecube version for Christmas a few weeks after it released, and I loved it! My first experience with the franchise was the PC version of TS1, and my sister, mother, and I were HOOKED on it since 2001
Just started the video and heard you refer to the hairstyle as “the senorita awesome hairdo”. WE LOVE A SCREAM QUEEN reference ❤️💅🏻
omg those tiny lil game inserts are so cute, I want one
Ahhhh I played bustin out on ps2 and I was obsessed. With that one & the urbz 💕
Great video!!
If you ever play again, the game is a little easier if you do the other carrier paths simultaneously, because some of the unlocks increase your mood stuff quickly. Also, your spouse can focus on making friends that count as "family friends" for career promotion.
but only a little easier, still a hard game.
A veteran sim player who doesn't learn 1 cooking skill so the house doesn't go on fire everyday makes me laugh
Sims bustin out is still my favorite game of all time and the music is what takes me back.
Yess and I remember I would never woohoo when my parents were around
I love coming across a new Sims console video! This one was really really good! Sims 1 is definitely worth a play, it's HARD!
If you play it like it’s supposed to then yes it’s hard. If you level up all skills and build gnomes until you reach at least 20k simoleons before you leave your moms house you’ll be golden. I think there was some glitch where you didn’t get tired at your moms house.
I never got to play sims as a kid because of "woohoo" but this still feels like a primal memory. Great vid as always liss and I love the autumn shirt
The music on this was top tier!
I loved the club music when you turned the radio on.
Loved the story mode, got me into the little npc story modes in sims 2 - being a single mom was rough
This one is my favorite. I've been playing it recently too! I'm in the art house now
This was my first Sims game!
This was my favorite game as a kid!! My introduction to the sims 😂
Pretty questionable 😭
you’re a queen. i’m so entertained
This was one of my favourite games as a kid. I remember keeping full and rested was a real pain though.
The handheld version and urbz are so good 💕
So excited for the urbz! I don't remember which was my first Sims, if that one or castaway, either way love them both
This is why I loved the older ps2 games over PC, having goals and gradually moving to bigger and better places was awesome.. maybe I'm just not creative enough for the PC versions because I get so bored but could play busting out for days
I used to play this for HOURS on my gamecube when I was like 8. It was so hard. I don't know how far I got but man I'd kill to play it again
I came here for the sims bustin out content but your hair is so beautiful 🤩
i love this series that youre doing with playing all the old sims games Castaway, mysim and this! maybe for the next video you can try the sims medieval
Thank you for making these throwback game vids its soooo fun to go down memory lane with these games!!!
This game is so good. I revisited last year. And I was addicted. That’s how the sims should be. We need a story mode like this so bad.
This brings back so much memories ! I used to play this sims together with my mom 😂
“It’s lonely In my mansion “ 😂😂😂 I could only get past a few levels of this game, and I would stick a playing free play with my brother
