You can customize the length and angles of staircases in Sims 4. Sims 2 didn’t have spiral staircases in the base game either. Every version of Sims sucks when it first comes out. 4 years ago, I was a total hater of TS4. I thought everyone who was excited for it and jumping on the bandwagon was a chump. “Why can’t they just keep updating Sims 3? This is a total ripoff!” But now, especially since Cottage Living, I actually think TS4 is pretty good. I’m still not a fan of the art style, but in terms of gameplay, there will always be pros and cons to each version, but in some ways I think 4 is better than 2 or 3. NOW, everybody is complaining about it. Now that it’s been fixed and even I, pitchfork holder that I am, have come around. Everybody is just wrong all the time!
And Sims 2 came out only 4 years after The Sims, yet they still made all these insane improvements. Meanwhile we're slogging through year 8 of Sims 4 with no Sims 5 in sight.

This series has been a lot of fun. I have different nostalgia games so I didn't expect much of it, but even never having played these, your storytelling is enthralling.
"How does AA weave such horrifying existentialism into these seemingly simple video games?" I hear you asking. He does not. The horrifying existentialism is already there, in everything. You just have to look for it, or in this case, you just have to be shown.
with everything in the world being such existential, we have no choice but to overcompensate by embracing excessive nihilism, thinking about nothing but the survival of the self, for prolonging existence is the only way to keep the idea of its counterpart afloat. and the circle continues, for exintence could breed nihilism, but the opposite may never occur aside from life suddenly just happening in the universe of chaos. such irony.
I get running the PC version but I mean if you really wanted to play it you can just get an Xbox/PS2 emulator and download the ROM and play it with controller very easily
Agreed. Sims 2 is the only real successor of the original Sims. It has captured the charm and quirkiness that the Sims 1 had, and made improvements upon it. Sims 3 and Sims 4 are just simply games who share the same franchise title. Their design has gone in a different direction. Not that different is necessarily bad, though... just that it doesn't feel the same as the original Sims anymore.
Sims 3 is obviously better because of customization, open world and quests, also the wishes are harder to accomplish and less repetitive like in Sims 2 and the needs make more sense, like for example if your sim is in total darkness it will have a bad effect on their mood, same as staying home for too long, it's not just bars to fill in

plenty are commenting on the conclusion of this epic but I'm finding the opening action the most Victorian gothic of the whole thing if you stitch it together a little: businessman, going bankrupt, begins to capitalize on his one remaining resource the only way he can, digs for treasure until his physical and metaphorical pit is so deep that he can no longer escape it

It’s nice to hear more people appreciating The Sims 2 as the best of the series. I recently saw a statistic that it was the lowest-selling game of the entire franchise and it boggles my mind. It was so much better than Sims 1, and Sims 3 only improved by taking out loading screens (while everything else, including how it ran, was worse). I couldn’t believe it! It’s definitely the best game and probably my favourite game ever - I still play it over the others to this day.
When it came out, it ran poorly on my computer, had long load times into the neighbourhood which were apparently never fixed, and the addition of ageing put off many kids who just wanted to enjoy the game without existential dread. While you could turn that off, it seemed like it wasn't the intended mode of play. But it definitely added way more to do than the first game, which was pretty much all grinding for money in the end.
I think Sims 3 was pretty hyped-up. Many of my peers were sharing one copy of Sims 2 because parents and stuff, but with Sims 3 coming out, they were also old enough to purchase Sims 3 with their pocket money. Not like it is the main reason or a reason at all, but it's interesting to think about I think. I also think that a lot of the people who are die-hard Sims 2 fans now were born too late to buy Sims 2, which is even more interesting. Also according to wikipedia, not sure where you saw your statistics, the sales numbers differ only by 1 million, which... isn't a lot? And the Sims 4 numbers are probably inflated because a lot of people tried it when it had a free period, which imho shouldn't count (although that would still make Sims 2 the lowest one). Also, a bit of my own opinion, Sims 2 is amazing when you have a lot or all of the DLCs. But having just the base game is kinda meh. Sims 3 is more engaging base game-only.
Lowest selling game of the entire franchise? Really? It's a game that came out in 2004, an era where gaming wasn't as widespread then compared to now where everyone could afford one computer at home at the very least. Looking at the Sims 2's sales figures, it was a smashing success for a game that came out when gaming was seen as a childish hobby that older people looked down on. By that metric, The Sims 2 was a massive success for the era it came in. Still has loyal fans who grew up with the entry up to this day even so very few games could say the same. The Sims 4 is lucky to have come out in 2014 where more people have access to computers. That alone might've saved it from being a massive failure like SimCity 2013 did. However it's also by far the most controversial installment to the franchise. The only ardent defenders of Sims 4 are what? Teenage girls and children. Granted I was a teenager myself when it came out being 16 in 2014, but I was already old enough to see past EA's slimy money grubbing tactics with the constant streams of DLC after DLC coming out in my late teens. It couldn't hold my attention then as its intended age demographic, it still fails to uphold my attention now approaching my mid 20s. I prefer to pirate it in its entirety since I'm not spending a single dime on the travesty known as the Sims 4. It doesn't deserve my money.

The DS version of this game is fucking insane by the way. My sister had it when i was a kid, shit's weird. Some of the stuff mentioned at then start is a huge part in that game. Aliens, Mole people, you dress up like a rat and fight crime, all from a third person perspective with rpg mechanics.
I remember being 10 and being glued to Sims 1. My parents bought me all of the expansion packs and it blew my mind as to how immersive it was . I was so eager to play Sims 2, only for my windows 2000 to have an absolute meltdown when trying to run it 😂
I swear, you have the most original ideas I've ever seen. Also I love the Sims 2 too so what better combination than this! Immediately after watching this video, I went and started up Sims 2 (I'd missed it so much so this was a good enough reason to get me play it again!). I took me 4 real life hours to complete the challenge and after that, Brad Pit got married to Angelina Jolie and as of now they have 4 children (2 of their own, 2 adopted) and the only reason is that Angelina wishes to marry off 6 of her kids lol
6:22 if you wanna experience something truly Kafkaesque, I recommend attempting to dispatch a HMMWV from the motorpool at your local Army unit. The paperwork you fill out, the required mechanic checks, supervisor's signatures, vague timelines and unclear office hours only add to the sublime experience. If you're lucky you'll even get to stay at work after-hours as you attempt to find the _third_ edition of the technical manual for your specific model of HMMWV, not the superceded _second_ edition which you have plenty of, but unfortunately is not acceptable as part of the required vehicle equipment that you must have before the dispatch office will sign off on your paperwork. Joy of joys!
Oh and if during the mechanic check the mechanic finds anything even slightly wrong, then forget about dispatching cos now you need to schedule the HMMWV to come into the bays for maintenence which will take _all day,_ but oh also we still need that dispatch so just try to make the mechanic work faster so we can get that done okay okay thanks cool dude
Personally 3 has always been my favorite. The open world was great and I felt like you had a lot more to do (at least once you got most of the expansions. Hey, it's the sims. It's part of the deal kind of like Paradox games). Now if only someone could optimize the open world to not chug like a drunk uncle.
It took me a long time but you can optimize it with intensive performance modding, replacing vanilla maps with cleaned up versions from the community, and background scripts to clear junk, minimizing the amount of times you save over an old save file, etc. And you have to occasionally reset everything in your town with modded cheats. Alot of maintenance :/
@@satuisaburda8969 if I remember correctly the main cause of the performance issues are invisible cars, apparently the dlcs do some funky stuff with invisible traffic lmao

I am absolutely loving these Sims videos. Sims 1 is an all time classic, but I think Sims 2 is where I spent most of my time in the series. Many good memories of my vampire gardener watching his family generations live and die in their family mansion.
Ok so I know I’m supposed to be feeling sims 2 nostalgia right now, but SSX 3 was and is my FAVORITE game on the original Xbox! You slapped me right back to 2004
The terrible landscapes and rather unorthodox ways this sim was required to escape from a pit only to immediately succumb to the tragedy of death makes the name Hieronymus fit him very well.
While one can tell that you greatly enjoy your challenge runs of Rimworld, Kenshi, and other games, I find that the most enjoyment is derived from videos like this. Videos where your love for a game simply oozes through the screen, and sparks that ephemeral flame of nostalgia within all our hearts.
I took a break from this beautiful channel after the Torsolo channel update. I am very happy to see your views have absolutely spiked since then. You helped me many a night falling asleep to Kenshi experience. Thank you for your dedication and I hope it pays off for you more and more.
Recently got the sims 2 working on my pc and had to watch this classic again. I’m not sure how I managed to forget but man this game was so involved. Like, there’s so much actual gameplay that goes into everything. In sims 3 and 4 if you write a novel you just choose a genre and it randomly assigns it a quality level based on your skill. In sims 2 you actually choose the whole plot. It took me about an hour to parse the satisfaction vs aspiration vs influence meters in the UI. It’s overwhelming at times actually!
As usual, we're just transported through the story, supported by your extraordinary story telling Thanks for being such a nice entertainer and bringing us on those journeys with you ♥
Truly best selling novels. That ladybug went on quite the adventure, lol. Although I did not remember you could dig down that far in the sims, so it also appears I learned something new as well.

I was so eager to play Sims 2, only for my windows 2000 to have an absolute meltdown when trying to run it 😂
Oddly enough, this story fits very nicely into the narrative of the real Notes From Underground
Angelina Holie
@@Draikedraike I wish I came to that idea sooner!
@@mitraj7763 it probably would have came to you if you had let it sink in for longer
I have a lot of unresolved trauma from my Army years 🙃
Personally 3 has always been my favorite. The open world was great and I felt like you had a lot more to do (at least once you got most of the expansions. Hey, it's the sims. It's part of the deal kind of like Paradox games). Now if only someone could optimize the open world to not chug like a drunk uncle.
Plus being able to modify materials of the objects was amazing if you're into building
Also limiting the frame rate! TS3 has no fps limit and can go as high as 100, which causes a ton of lag
@@satuisaburda8969 if I remember correctly the main cause of the performance issues are invisible cars, apparently the dlcs do some funky stuff with invisible traffic lmao
Agreed. If 4 had been 3 with a cleaned up game engine, instead of a more limited version of 2, I'd have been very happy.
I could literally listen to this man talk for days. Can’t get enough of the fabulous frog.
Man I miss the absolute absurdity of the old sims games they used to be so fun
Ah AA proving again that he is truly one of the content creators of all time
Yes, truly one of them.
one of the content creators i have ever seen
I keep saying "O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" because of you. You always have such interesting ideas for things to do in games and it's always appreciated to see 🖤
Have you read the original poem?
Every video you post is an artwork, I always notice how much work you put into creating them and I really appreciate it!
And I am sure I am not alone!
Watching amphibian’s videos makes me feel cultured and well refined. Thanks ambiguous amphibian.
I am loving the revisiting of these old games, its so fucking wonderful to watch you talk about one of my favorite franchises

I am absolutely loving these Sims videos. Sims 1 is an all time classic, but I think Sims 2 is where I spent most of my time in the series. Many good memories of my vampire gardener watching his family generations live and die in their family mansion.
I can’t explain why, but that trombone scale at 6:37 got me
Man, something about your voice, your tone, the way you speak....Its PERFECT as a voice-over for game footage, you are VERY funny.
I thought I've seen everything in this game.
If this means there will be more Sims 2 in the future, I absolutely cannot wait.
Huzzah for making it!
That reminds me of the logic>meditate>Teleport chain, but that would just make for a dull experience. Thanks for the nostalgia.
I'm glad Sims 2 is your favorite; it's my favorite, too.
What a Hellish task. RIP Brad. Or Hieronymus. Whichever is correct.
Ok so I know I’m supposed to be feeling sims 2 nostalgia right now, but SSX 3 was and is my FAVORITE game on the original Xbox! You slapped me right back to 2004
This dude got me through Covid last December with his videos. Torsolo!
@@peanutm9346 hush child go back to bed
The terrible landscapes and rather unorthodox ways this sim was required to escape from a pit only to immediately succumb to the tragedy of death makes the name Hieronymus fit him very well.
the fact that I heard brad *pit* and had a second of silence before letting a single laugh out makes me feel like I’m slowly going insane.
The first house really looking like one of my buildings in rimworld.
I took a break from this beautiful channel after the Torsolo channel update. I am very happy to see your views have absolutely spiked since then. You helped me many a night falling asleep to Kenshi experience. Thank you for your dedication and I hope it pays off for you more and more.
So glad I found your channel, I can almost feel like I’m learning AND watch beautiful content. Thank you kind sir
Andy Dwyer went from living in the pit to becoming Johnny Karate in the same amount of time
The music from the Sims 2 fills me with a sense of nostalgic dread. Beautiful.
As usual, we're just transported through the story, supported by your extraordinary story telling
Thanks for being such a nice entertainer and bringing us on those journeys with you ♥
Truly best selling novels. That ladybug went on quite the adventure, lol. Although I did not remember you could dig down that far in the sims, so it also appears I learned something new as well.
Fun fact: in the US alone, there are almost three times as many vacant houses than homeless people.
Well those homeless people should start buying houses and stop being homeless then.
@@diggernick01 just don't be poor lol
@@kevinmclarkey621 some people want to be homeless
That's not a fun fact at all!
...ok? There exists a thing called money. You BUY houses, not get them for free. Housing MARKET.
Second Sims...Years ago my moms friend gave us it and all of the dlcs on discs in one huge bag...still have all of the boxes, best game in the series by far
Who is this man. This was my first video I've watched and it had me crying laughing. Seriously talented.
I just now realised that I've been watching yours and Let's Game It Out's videos as youtube was throwing them at me, only now realising that it was the case. Been watching you both for months now, one at a time and it's genuinely fascinating how similar, entertaining and rewatchable your guys' stuff is.
All meant in a good way, of course. Love the vids.
"A man tragically died in a pit he couldn't get out of!" *Notes from natural causes due to old age left out.*
this was my first video from you and I keep coming back to it because its absolutely captivating.
I'm sure I'll periodically come back to it, I'll try to track my future rewatches for posterity.
"Notes From Underground" by Dostoyevsky. I see what you did there.
I love clicking on one of your videos and diving right into whatever scenario you've created this time with the lul of your iconic narration. Thank you.
'Ahh, the great indoors' - love that reference!
This is also my own favorite installment of the series. It's so hard to get it working now. lol Thank you for all the amazing content, Mr. Amphibian.
Underground just like my wife in my basement. She's been in there for about 1 month irl time and she's not coming out anytime soon. I painted the door to her room aswell and sold it for 500 bucks
5:27 Just woke up to this part in the middle of the night, and I feel so called out.
Does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 2:18 ?
Love your Sims content. I've rewatched this just to absorb everything properly.
This is amazing and I want to see more of the sims videos.
This is a genuinely beautiful video. No one does it like you. I am moved.
Sisyphean refers to Albert Camus' the myth of Sisyphus. The reference means to describe the absurd nature of the situation of trying to claw your way out of the pit, always failing and having to start from square one
ngl this'd make for an interesting dystopian fiction show with people earning money via digging up artifacts and ore in a hole they got chucked in
Brad Pit vs Johnny Depth
I went online to find the sims 2 soundtrack for buying furniture while I looked at real life lamps for my dimmly lit appartment. Instead what I found was a terrifying message of the hole that I, and everyone I know, live in. And how we may not be so alone in our struggle and how we can work to get out of the pit together. Thank you mr.Amphibian for teaching me this lovely lesson. I need to find a lamp now.
The fish trying to achieve world peace actually sounds like a good book if written correctly. Wow.
I always loved the fun fact that the Sims games for Consoles and Handhelds were story-driven life sims, instead of the typical sandbox the PC games put you in. I loved Sims: Bustin Out for the GBA, for example.
They were allowed to have a lot of character for that reason. Some of the objectives could be annoying to figure out though.
I love this nostalgia trip! We gotta be the same generation cause we share a lot of the era and taste in gaming lol. Love your vids
I am at that level where I have seen most of the clips and now I put the reruns on a play list and fall asleep to it.this is my favourite channel to watch right before bed, kinda like in the good old days of conan o brian on tv,im fucken old
So I’m watching this video in the bathroom while work is being done at the apartment next to mine. The moment he said “rave party” at 5:40 my light started strobing. Now I think ambiguousamphibian is living in my walls
When the fish went to the city to make money, I felt that in my soul.
Man, it's crazy to me that I originally saw your content when you were first playing Zomboid and Rimworld and it's really cool to see how great you're doing now. Love the content.
Many years ago when you were much smaller I found your channel and loved the few videos you had I recently started playing project zomboid and after years of trying to remember your name I accidentally ran into your channel I missed you frog man and I can’t wait to hear your philosophical opinion of this
Man, the music you used really brought me back to The Sims Bustin' Out and the Sims 2 on consoles.
"I did what any single man in his late thirties with no friends on the verge of a violent fugue would do..."
Hold on, hold on, let me get my notebook...
I love how everyone who makes videos about The Sims 2 always uses the Nightlife soundtrack, it's so good.
I enjoy your videos a lot. I’m here because the Sims was my entire childhood. I stay (and subscribe) because you have the most blessed gift for delivering existential horror in the most benign and entertaining way.
And what else is there to do but laugh. Thank you
