  • 2017 Grand Cherokee SRT water pump replacement. We developed a high pitch squealing noise from around the serpentine belt area. I suspected a tensioner or idler pulley. I was completely wrong. Apparently the water pump failure on 6.4L HEMI's is quite common.

    Glad I saw this video, I also just got a srt and there’s a clunk when taking off from stops thinking it’s the drive shaft now you have me thinking transfer case

    • @ALongLongWaytoGO
      @ALongLongWaytoGO  6 місяців тому

      Ours turned out definitely to be transfer case…..”LUCKILY” our extended warranty covered it…..BUT…..there was a control module that our dealer says is the most likely cause of premature transfer case failure…..our warranty would not cover it because it wasn’t “defective”….so we chose to go ahead and pay for that out of our pockets….Was it the actual cause?……We may never know.

      @@ALongLongWaytoGO man that’s good but then again how’s it been every since the repairs? I changed out my transfer case fluid and clunking went away previous owner might’ve done it once at most

      @@chakas03 zero issues with it after the replacement. We did get to look at the old t-case. Output shaft bearing was garbage. So the whole rear yolk would wobble around. We did end up selling the SRT just a bit back. Couldn’t pass up the offer we got.

    Nice job on the repair. I was pleased to see you change the idlers and tensioner at the same time. That will pay off in the long run.
    The GC sounds awesome AJ.

    Thank you for this. I’m gonna tackle my water pump myself. 70,000 miles, 2016 srt. I also had the same transfer case issue. I changed the fluid and clunking went away.

      There wasn’t no fluid change for ours…Once they got it out, the front output shaft would wobble around in the housing. Save yourself the time and effort….change all the idler and tensioners while your in there. Good luck. Not a bad job at all.

      Same transfer case issues and changed the fluid and went away. Apparently you should replace the fluid every 25,000kms

    I don't miss that 3 times it happened to me and the worst that happened were the lifters and camshaft traded it in for a Toyota best decision I've made no problems at all 🙏

    One more question ... I'd like to drain as much of the old coolant out of the system and then run some distilled water through and drain that. But besides removing all the various hoses, how would I maximize the amount of old coolant that I get out? Can I use compressed air to to blow it out? A shop vac to suck it out? What do you think? So far I've only drained using the radiator petcock and that got me about 1 gallon of what I think is 4 gallons of the coolant. I do have the front driver side elevated a little that may be preventing gravity from helping as much as it can. Any thoughts?

    Great video. Thanks. At about 7:40 you point out a tube that is pressed into the water pump and it has an o-ring. Can you tell me what that tube is called? I want to replace the o-ring when I do mine but I cant find it on the parts diagram.

    • @ALongLongWaytoGO
      @ALongLongWaytoGO  5 місяців тому

      I “think”…..LOL…I believe it’s actually the heater hose outlet from pump. I did not have to find it as I have an o-ring supply kit for the work I do. Made it a little easier.

    How much coolant did you need for this? 1 jug enough?

    • @ALongLongWaytoGO
      @ALongLongWaytoGO  6 місяців тому

      If I remember sir, I believe one was enough….but I did purchase a gallon of concentrate from my local Jeep dealer ( mainly because we had points and technically didn’t pay for it )……any additional I needed after that I just topped with a little distilled water. I would have to look back for the actual amount I used….let me know if you need that and I will look it up.
      We really appreciate you watching.

    I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. I recently put about $3k into it which had to do with gaskets, motor mount and some other things because the radiator cracked. Now my hoes keeps popping off. Could that be due to a bad water pump ?

    • @ALongLongWaytoGO
      @ALongLongWaytoGO  2 місяці тому

      Hmmmm…..What caused the radiator to crack? Just age and miles? Did it overheat? Which hose is popping off? Couldn’t see the system building up that much pressure before the cap would be letting pressure out. Is it pushing coolant back out of the system? Is it overheating now after the new radiator?

    • @kg9217
      @kg9217 2 місяці тому

      @@ALongLongWaytoGO I’m not sure what caused it to crack. I’m at 94,000 miles so it could be wear and tear. Nope it’s not overheating but it does make a weird noises from time to time. The hoes that keep popping off is the hose right there over top of the fan
