      I have a 2007 C6 automatic, and cooked myself just standing on it accelerating on an Interstate on-ramp. I did NOT have to hit the "magic button" for the privilege. As I blew by the State Police at about 160, well . . . The Statie did me a solid and wrote the ticket so that I wouldn't catch a felony reckless driving case. Jus' sayin' . . .

    (I realize this is a older video but had to make a comment)
    This makes me smile and remember my first car, a 1967 firebird, 400, 4 speed Muncie, 411 posi.
    No magic button but lots of really big smiles and 1/4 mile runs full throttle.
    I currently own a 1993 C4, and a 1995 Z28 lots of fun and now I'm looking for a C5 or C6 to add to the stable.

    I have a c5 automatic since a couple of months now. today a nice sunny day. I tested this in competetion mode.. (ASR SPORT MODE) and it was a sensation!!! but wen i pull of the first 3-4 seconds only tyre spin. when i looked in the mirror i see smoke and 2 long black stripes on the road! i think the car had been faster to 100kmh with the traction control on. Or is it because i have no experience with corvette? maybe a couple of pulls more to make the tyres warmer? normally i always just cruise in the car. or on back roads shift the auto in 2 gear. and pull. Great car!

    • @csvette
      @csvette  3 роки тому +5

      Competitive Driving Mode is more for getting the rear loose in turns and to allow steering with the throttle. For straight-line acceleration, traction control still (technically) slows you down...but if you are just mashing the pedal to the floor you will have tire spin instead of speed. Practice rolling into the throttle to get a feel for what your adhesion/traction limits are on your tires. If you still have run-flats, get yourself a set of stickier non-runflat tires and have WAY more fun. Lyle

    • @csvette
      @csvette  Рік тому +3

      That largely depends on your skill level as a driver. Competitive mode keeps some of the babysitters on at the very limits to keep you from an expensive "oopsie". If you are a trained and experienced track guy, you might get a slightly better result by turning it all off, but you need to have an honest conversation with yourself about that. :) Lyle

    Just a request, you should do a segment regarding the shifter in automatic c6 & c5. Mine would not come out of park intermittently due to a micro switch. I took to my speed shop & they cut off the entire safety lock. Only difference is, you can put it drive without having your foot on the brake. No big deal. The dealership would've charged $1000's to fix. FYI, it's a known problem that GM should've recalled.

    Hi Lyle, great video, as always. I just bought a 2003 (automatic, Memory Package) and am interested in getting a push button start kit. I will definitely try turning off traction control, but I couldn't find a video of yours that directly addresses the issue of keyless ignition. It would be "the other magical button." Are there reputable companies that do this for C5's? Any drawbacks to installing a push button start?

    • @csvette

    • @banditdarval9401
      @banditdarval9401 Рік тому +1

      Leave it. No point in adding other avenues for electrical problems. As it is, some parts for the c5 aren't produced. Keep it a classic & enjoy it.

    • @banditdarval9401
      @banditdarval9401 Рік тому +1

      Another note. The beautiful thing about the old gm key ignition is, it's very simple to put it in accessory. Just turn the key back & jam the stereo. With push button, ya have to hold it down when the car isn't running. This can become important if you have shifter problems, which the c5 & c6 are known for.

      @@csvette The car has one on it, I am assuming it prob needs the brown wire added to the install im not sure how old the LMC5 kit on this one is, but I wasn't sure if the wait 10 seconds was maybe a key problem. I dont own the car I want to buy it but trying to cross my T's. I also know he has not had any luck programming key fobs. I got one to program but then it did nothing but without owning I cant take stuff apart.

      @@jimshorts7983 The brown wire alternate install should solve that problem. As far as the fob programming, lots of people are buying "correct" fobs online for cheap prices but the FCC codes are different than the ones needed for Corvette. That may be the only issue. If they are actual GM fobs, then there may be other problems. Lyle

    On a 2008 C6 3LT, if the button is depressed for any length of time or pressed in any sequence; does the car go into any other modes?

    I have a 2009 Z06 and a few days ago I washed it and when I was finished I started it up to drive it and service antilock brakes, service active handling system, and service traction system message came on, the traction control button doesn't work now at all, what could be wrong?

      GM had a recall for '05 & '06 Vettes with this issue. Did this on my '06. Easy solution & free. The electrical connector for the steering position sensor had a issue with one wire regularly coming loose after normal repeated repositioning of the steering wheel. You can google this, and basically you have to remove the lower dash cover above the driver's foot area, get on your back under the dash, find the connector strapped to the steering column, then reseat the harness and individual wires (only 2 or 3 as i can recall), then restrap harness and wires in a slightly different position that doesn't allow too much tension on the wire connections.

    • @csvette

      It may also be your wiper control module that is integrated into the wiper motor itself. Both parts are readily available, but I recommend having a professional diagnose the issue so that you are only replacing the part that is problematic. Lyle

      I've owned both as well. In my experience my RT/10 hands down was much more exciting/difficult/driver reliant to control than the C5...both in stock form.
      The C5 is much more controllable and easier to keep straight, but it takes power adders to make the C5 fun enough. For me anyway.
      I forged and put an ECS Novi 1500 on one of my C5s and now (634 wheel horse power/ 568 wheel torque) it's hands down waaay more enjoyable/exciting to toy around with than any car I've ever owned.
