When I take off or put back the top I open both doors and have the windows down so that if I get distracted I have a few cues that there things left to be done...but I’m 70+ so I forget a lot shit...but is VERY important! Thanks for the info on the C6! 👍🏻
Had my rear struts changed 7000 miles ago, had it in for an oil change and they did their normal checks, they showed the struts leaking, same dealer that changed them 7000 miles earlier, is that normal on a c6 thanks
I just bought my very first Corvette (2006 C6 convertible). Coming from a Mercedes Benz SLK, this is a bit of a learning experience. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!!!
@@darko4675 That's funny! I really loved my SLK. But it had been not maintained very well before I bought it. So, it was starting to cost a LOT to keep it dependable. And since I loved the convertible SLK, I got a convertible Vette as well. Good luck with your C6 purchase! I hope you like yours as much as I've enjoyed having mine!
@TheBirdman1966 So far, I like the car. But it has had a couple of the common issues. I had the harmonic balancer replaced, a new starter, plus a hydraulic line for the convertible top replaced. Now going to have a new stereo installed. But it's got over 100k on the odometer now. And I'm still enjoying the way it handles. Plus it surprisingly gets better gas mileage than most of my other cars. 😃
Here's how you re program your windows that don't roll up after closing your door! Simply get into your Corvette, turn on acsessorie and hold the window button up for three seconds. Then let go and do it again for 3 more seconds. Worked for me.... Fixed!
#6: NEVER put “regular”antifreeze into your C6’s cooling system; it is corrosive to the lining and will cause undue and expensive damage. The C6 requires a specific antifreeze like DexCool; #7: If you find the rear end differential is making a “chattering” sensation while negotiating turns with maximum or near maximum steering wheel deflection, it’s time to change the differential fluid. NEVER replace it with ordinary differential fluid; the C6 differential requires a fluid with a special anti-slip additive to prevent the gears from chafing and causing metal shards to break off and cause damage to the differential mechanism. Happy Motoring!!!😎
Yes was kind of confused why it was made to be such a big deal. Door closed. Hold in up position to relearn home. If door open..the window is likely down a little so not sure it will accurately rehome correctly. I do it sitting in car with door closed. Less than minute to do. Hold up and I usually do it twice to just ensure...then pop door open..see it drop 1/4 inch..close door and it goes to full up.
I enjoy that he is not just some random that bought a video camera and now gives corvette advice on you tube, because anything corvette is bound to get clicks, much to the detriment of those trying to learn the car.
First time viewer of your channel, longtime Vette owner of many Generations. Currently I’m in my C6. You couldn’t be anymore on the money than you are in this video. The top segment I’m guilty of 4 times not proud but it happens! Ty for all your information
Hello again Lyle. Great service you're providing for us corvette owners. That was me. I changed out the battery on my 05 and was like "what happen to my windows". I found a video to reset those but I appreciate your offer to help.
Hey lyil I am the c6 owner about the throttle controller and I told you I got the comander and wow it really makes a difference in how my car acts ,, crazy
Kyle in about 2 to 3 months I’m going to find and purchase a 2019, grand sport 2LT, automatic. Can you help me with a short list of things I need to look for. I am a previous 2005 owner and loved the car a lot. I’m a 71 year old cancer patient and this will probably be my last joy in life. Thanks for your site and your experience. JT
You all probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Boone Nikolas Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
1. Thank u for the hints , feels good to have friends ! , 2. Anyway I placed a second battery in the tunk of my c6Ls3, connected to the one in the engine bay , so I have the capacity of 2, I do that with any car , have my reasons for that, I love to have two huge batteries gives me confidence to any situation !
Clutch fluid gets dark fast. I found the best way to tell how bad it is, is by using a TEQ Brake Fluid Liquid Tester Pen. They're cheap and do a good job of reading the moisture level in DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids. I run DOT5.1 for my brakes, but I still use it to test the brake fluid. I'd recommend using that meter to keep up with how contaminated our brake and clutch fluids are. I think if you take your car to the track, using this meter is very important. If you wish to avoid future clutch issues, the meter will help with that also.
I have owned my C6 GS convertible (manual gearbox) for one year now Lyle and I always fold in the convertible top handle before pushing the power down button. I think it’s just common sense. I hope the folks who owned the car before me did the same. Great video as always.
I always look forward to the videos . Great info every time . I almost learn something on every video. I have owned several Vettes now looking for a C6 .Thanks Great job
Well! I’ve been doing the vert roof latch wrong for 15 years! There is a piece of foam in the back that’s as getting damaged by that handle and I thought that it was abnormal.. and don’t forget, indexing the windows is also critical for convertible top operation too! We both learned that one right Lyle!
How to index C6 windows, straight from the manual, After a power reconnect such as battery replacement, the window index-up feature will not function until the system is initialized. Once power is restored, do the following: 1. Close the door. 2. Raise the window by pulling up the switch. 3. Hold the up switch for three seconds after the window is closed. Release the switch. 4. Hold the up switch again for three seconds and release.
Another great video, thank you Lyle, now what year ZR1 do you like best, and speaking of Oil, which do you prefer ? I worked for the Mobil Oil Corp for 33 years and I swear by their Mobil 1 synthetic. Love to hear your thoughts.
Can anyone tell me what socket size is needed for the check plug? Going to inspect a C6 tomorrow and would love to know instead of bringing a whole set of sockets into the service bay
I just bought a 2007 vette. How do get information on it? To know if it’s LS2 or LS3 . I need to replace the driver side mirror. I don’t know all the functions. I know it has the memory function. I new to vettes and trying to learn. Thanks
Great tips. I am having an issue with my 05 Z51 convertvertible. So when I turn the car off (gear in reverse). It's not recognizing it's in reverse and although the engine is off the car isn't shutting down entirely. I have to mess with the shifter back and forth for about 5 minutes until it hits a sweet spot and decides to recognize it's in reverse. I have seen it could be a battery issue which mine is fully charged or it could be a switch on the tranny. Do you have any knowledge of this? Apparently only an issue with the 05.
All good advice Lyle. When changing the battery, so one doesn't lose all factory memory settings, one's personal radio settings etc., would hooking up a battery tender to the battery cables first before disconnecting them to change out the battery maintain all the settings? I don't own a convertible, but I enjoyed your advice on where to position that center handle before folding the top down. I haven't checked my manual, but is this procedure/warning contained in same? Save the Wave👋
Hi Lyle - wish you were in Texas! I follow your videos and they are great. I have 2 minor issues with my C6 base convertible. (1) The trunk lights don't work. I changed the bulbs - no luck. I don't know enough about electrics to know which connectors to test. I don't even know what fuse controls the trunk lights. The other courtesy lights work fine. (2) The trunk release doesn't work consistently. Sometimes it just partially opens the trunk. Sometimes it takes several pushes of the release button to make it work. It has new struts. These are minor, but they are annoying (and I'm a perfectionist! lol)
Never neglect the clutch fluid in a manual car. When it is black, change it! Never change the engine oil in a Z06, ZR1 or Grand Sport coupe manual transmission by adding the oil to the passenger-side valve cover plug. It's under the injector cover for a reason! Read the owner's manual! It has a dry sump engine. First, that plug is locked in and if you force it open, you will probably break the plastic tabs into the area under the valve cover and then have loose plastic bits in your $15000 hand-assembled engine. Second, the engine oil pan cannot hold all 10+ quarts and it will starve your engine of oil until the scavenge pump can send it all back to the dry sump and the supply oil pump can then feed the engine. You'll probably eat a main bearing or a lifter. Third, most of the time you will have too much oil in the dry sump before the supply pump has properly fed the engine, which will vent to the intake and give you fits burning oil for a couple hundred miles, if you get lucky and don't hydraulically lock a cylinder.
@@sulkmahidonkeydek3424 For the clutch fluid, refer to: ua-cam.com/video/gBbsy0LjUvE/v-deo.html For the engine oil change, refer to the owner's manual. For my 2011 manual, it is on page 10-19 and says: Changing Engine Oil and Filter (ZO6, ZR1, and Grand Sport)
These vehicles have a racetrack‐ready dry sump engine lubrication system. This high‐performance system operates differently than a standard engine lubrication system and requires a special procedure when changing the engine oil and filter. Follow this procedure closely when changing the engine oil and filter. ZO6 Shown, ZR1 and Grand Sport Similar A. Engine Oil Drain Plugs B. Seals 1. Remove the two engine oil drain plugs from the bottom of the engine oil pan. One drain plug drains the external oil tank via the oil transfer supply line. The other drain plug drains residual oil from the crankcase sump. Allow the oil to drain. 2. Once the oil has been drained from the engine, remove the engine oil filter and allow the oil to drain. 3. Re‐install both drain plugs and tighten them to 25 Y(18 lb ft). 4. Replace the oil filter and tighten it to 30 Y(22 lb ft). See Maintenance Replacement Parts on page 11‑8 for the correct filter. 5. Oil is filled through the opening in the top of the external engine oil tank. Remove the oil fill cap. 6. Add 9.9 L (10.5 quarts) of oil to the oil tank. See Capacities and Specifications on page 12‑2. 7. Install the oil fill cap and insert the dipstick, if removed.
bic1498 rangers method is not the proper way to change out your clutch fluid.. you need to get behind the torque tube to access the drain plug which requires you to drop the rear end.. rangers method is a temporary fix not a complete flush.. the cap with the oil grade on it is where I would refill the oil through.. ( the cap next to the dipstick) where else would someone fill oil?
@@sulkmahidonkeydek3424 If you want to put your car on a lift, drop the rear end out and have to re-do your alignment just to flush your clutch fluid ... enjoy yourself! Me, I will do the Ranger method a few times until the fluid is clear about every 4-6 months and call it good. It's alot better than some folks who never touch their fluids or shady service people who say they do but don't. There are PLENTY of stories about folks who have taken their dry sump Vettes in to "quick lube" places and come out with smoking exhaust and tappet noise ... or worse. Kids working at those places, or owners who don't know better look all over the engine for an oil fill cap and a dipstick. Why would they look at the rear passenger side of the engine bay? They don't even know what a dry sump engine is! They take the fuel rail covers off and voila ... there is what looks like an oil fill cap on the passenger rocker cover. Seems to be stuck though ... let me get my channel locks .... I'm having BCM issues again. I've had it replaced twice. Had the car a little over a year. 42k miles now. 30k when I bought it. Car runs fine. Only thing I've noticed is memory settings for the seat issues. Service active handling errors are popping up more frequently. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Steve
Steve, I would love to help you on this but electrical diagnosis is complicated when I have the car in my shop...impossible to guess what issues you may be having from a distance. Anyone who says they can reliably pinpoint electrical issues over the phone or email is either a genius or a liar, and I'm neither of those. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Lyle
@@csvette I appreciate the reply Lyle. Do the BCM'S for the C6 have a history of chronic failure in your experience? The repair is still under warranty at the dealership, main reason I went there. Plus their Vette guy has 20 Plus years experience. Just has me wondering. My first Vette and I absolutely love the car. Have a good one
@@bentonedwards8689 I know that GM replaces them often, but I suspect that it has less to do with faulty modules and more to do with GM's unwillingness (or lack of ability) to actually diagnose and reapir anything--they like to throw parts at a problem until they run out of available parts. That doesn't hurt you if you are under warranty, but it sure sucks to get a $4000 bill for a car that is "kind of" or "mostly" fixed. My two cents. Lyle :)
I was in Vegas, stopped at a large resort for the night, had the top in the trunk. Bell boys took my car to park it said no problem will put the top on it put it in a special place for the night, Next morning they bring it up to the front door, I jump in and take off. I got on the expressway was doing about 40 and my top came off as if I had pulled the ejection seat cord on a fighter jet. Looking in the rear view mirror I saw my top flying 30' up in the air like a kite and floating to the ground like a leaf. Zero damage, if only i was this lucky the night before at the Casino.
Good advice. I would add, be very careful with the rear hatch. If it clicks, it is down. Don't press on it, expecting it to firm up. I cracked a panel doing that, and the body shop will try to fix it, rather than replace it, but it will never be perfect again. Also, figure out your strategy for storing the car. Tend the battery, or take the battery out. For fuel, your guess is as good as mine, leave it low, or leave it full? There has to be something we can do to preserve the fuel sending units and the connection between the 2 rear tanks. Cost me $2000 to replace all that when it failed at 18,000 miles.
According to a few sources, you need to store your C-5 or C-6 with a 1/4 tank. They indicate that the sulfur content of the fuel is tough on the system, but your car does have a certain amount of protection when the fuel level is too low to touch the parts that the sulfur can affect. You can take that for what it's worth, but those sources say 1/4 a tank is optimum. Also, in the old days, gas tanks were "open" systems and prone to building up moisture, but the C5, as well as the C6, are "closed" and not prone to this issue. So, it appears moisture build-up in those closed tanks is not an issue.
dont forget to put chevron techron fuel system cleaner in the tank every now and then. the fuel level sending unit gets coated and quits working, mine just did it and found out it's a common issue, hoping I don't have to drop the tanks because that sounds like a major pain in these cars
mine has been doing that for years its a royal pain in the ass and u cant get the techron in canada stupid i just live with it no point changing the sending unit until the fuel pump goes
@@mikes7405 every time i put it in it works for a bit then stops again now when i fill the tank it reads empty for about 15 km then starts to work then goes full to empty for a bit just to constantly read empty again its a pain in the ass and gm know this problem but wont do anything about it its shameful
I put a tire onto my bare leather passenger seat, figuring if left any tire marks on my seat, the marks would easily wipe off. I was wrong. The marks do not wipe off! Some kinda chemical reaction occurred between the leather and the tire, and 3 different leather cleaning products wouldn't even fade the resulting tire marks. It's quite permanent. Thing #6 to never do is transport a tire in your passenger seat without covering the passenger seat with blankets on the seat and blankets on the back and being really careful not to let the tire contact leather.
2006 Corvette Convertible- This has been a great car, bought it in 2011 with 29 k miles, now it has 70 k miles-my wife has complained about a squeaking noise from driver side engine area that gets louder as the engine warms up-we have replaced harmonic balancer , both belts, and wheel bearing driver front. Noise is still there....any ideas on what to do next to identify this noise and fix it-Thanks Alan D
I would like information about re-index the window regulators on my 06 C6. I put in a new battery this morning and I thought they had lost their mind. I had not been folding down the handle on the convertible top. Thank you for the advise.
Indexing the Windows --Get into your vehicle and make sure both the driver and passenger doors are closed. --Turn the ignition switch to the On position, but with the engine off. On some Stingray models I have found if the following procedure fails repeat the procedure with the vehicle running. --Start with the driver-side and put the window all the way down and then back up. Now put the passenger-side window down and then back up. --Hold the driver-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release the switch. For a second time hold the driver-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release. --Repeat this process for the passenger-side window. Hold the passenger-side window switch in the up position for 3-5 seconds and then release the switch. For a second time hold the passenger-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release. --To make sure the windows have indexed correctly, check your windows to see if the window lowers approximately 1/8-inch when opening the door and the window will go up into the window weatherstrip after closing the doors. --Now raise and lower both the driver and passenger side windows to ensure they work correctly. Repeat the steps above if this feature has not been reset. Put the windows in the up position, turn off the ignition, get out of the vehicle close the door, get back in the vehicle and repeat the steps above starting with holding the driver-side switch up for 3-5 seconds.
I have a 2011 corvette coupe . It sets in the garage from nov thru march . I have the battery on trickle charge . I go out every 2 or 3 weeks and let it run until it warms up . Am I ok in storing my car like this . Also should I change oil after it sets for 5 months .
i have a manual trans. 05 c6 with a softtop comvertible. how do i properly check the hydraulic fluid without messing up the top's operation/stopping it while in motion? also, how do i check the manual transmission fluid?

My clutch pedal is sticking in down position. I had event at two way stop, you go no you go OK I’ll go then both go. Now in go mode I try to stop, over rev dump the clutch kill the engine. Since then pedal sticks. Either hard to shift or won’t shift. I cleaned bowl pumped and pumped. Usually does the worst when coming to a stop. Troy
Lyle I have another question for you. I just took my 2006 C6 Automatic Base Coupe out of storage in my Pole Barn. I keep a battery Tender on it like I do with all my Collector Cars. It started right up and ran nice. To make a long story as short as possible I had to take it to New Jersey Inspection last Friday. Before I left I had a problem getting it out of park but I did and drove the 10 miles or so to the NJ Inspection Station a waste of time being they only check emissions every 2 years. My C6 still has low miles on it less then 15k and looks like brand new inside and out. The inspector inspected and drove it up to me shutting it off for me to get in after he installed a new sticker to leave. Once again I had a problem at first getting it out of park to drive it home. When I got it in front of my Pole Barn to move my C5 out of the way to put the C6 in my Car Lift area I noticed that it would not shift in to park from Neutral but it would go into drive. That’s is where it stands today in my lift area. I had to shut it off in Neutral. I then had to disconnect the battery so I took the negative cable off because in Neutral if I didn’t I could clearly see I would end up with a dead battery. Looking on the Corvette Forum where I am months shy of being a 20 year member and on You Tube I have seen many try to fix this situation with either breaking or cutting the Plastic Pawl that won’t let it shift as of the moment. Some claim it is a micro switch problem or Solenoid problem. Some tie the Pawl open with wire under the console and some run a lead from the Pawl into the console to pull the Pawl Open if needed. What I am asking here from you if you don’t mine is what is the correct fix for this problem? Being in NJ I am too far away from you in Sarasota,Florida. If you were close by I would send you some work. I have been driving and owning Corvettes since I was 19 years old way back in 1970 a year out of high school when I purchased my first 1967 Vert. Today at 71 years old I own 4 of them all Coupes ‘67,’73,’99 and 2006 just to give you a little of my background. I was in the Automotive Parts Business over 40 years retired now still maintaining what I could on my cars.
I am new to this channel but he does leave a phone number you might want to give him a call not sure if he’s looking at these responses since this video is a year old but it sounds like you need assistance quickly
@@kevinmartin1204 thanks for the concern. Lyle is probably as busy as can be. I believe he might be headed to Carlisle,PA right now I thought I happened to read in another one of his You Tube Video’s advertisements I didn’t get to see as of the moment. My C6 is actually still in the lift area of my Pole Barn from I believe 2 weeks ago. July has been a very hot and humid month especially for me to work on cars outside. When I was a younger guy I had no problem working in the heat but that Pole Barn gets pretty warm in there during the Summer even with 2 Industrial Vintage Floor Fans going and a very large exhaust fan I installed in the back wall of my Barn 31 years ago. I have the console out of the car but stopped at the point of doing something with that Plastic Transmission Pawl not knowing which way I want to handle this. I know I don’t want to break it off like some others did. Right now my thought is to drill a hole in the back of the Pawl and tie it open with some mechanics wire and see how that works out. Doing it that way I can always go back to the original way it is suppose to operate in whether it be replace the Micro Switch or Solenoid which to me may not even be a very dependable fix. I just keep thinking what a jam I could of been in if I couldn’t of got it out of park in the inspection station. I guess at that point I would have had to call Triple AAA to come and tow it home. What a embarrassment that would of been. I want to avoid something like that ever happening. I don’t like rigging something up but rigging that Pawl to stay open might be the better option not to ever break down because of that Pawl locking up. It’s been happening to too many people from what I have read online in a C6 with a Automatic Transmission. Just my luck. I always owned manual transmission Corvettes. This is my first with a Automatic. I was looking at my age in 2017 when I purchased this Vette and the bumper to bumper traffic NJ has become today at times. There is nothing like being in bumper to bumper traffic with a Stick Shift vehicle that is for sure.
Honestly I would start with a brand new battery. Electronic issues are huge with C6s relating to low battery. I keep a tender on mine but the battery has still died eventually, so don't just think because you use a tender the battery is good enough. Seems cheaper than troubleshooting a transmission.
The only thing I didn’t get was checking trans fluid level. If it just burbs out , we’ll then for sure it’s going to get low. Is there a plug that you unscrew ?? I don’t own a vette yet , doing my homework. Any answers appreciated.
I'm the guilty one of not putting the handle back when I put the top down for the first time and busted it. Any info on a replacement handle and how hard or easy is the install.
Ok, sounds like the complex procedure for transmission fluid level really applies to the automatic. But you don't do much to differentiate. I am taking it that the manual is much simpler and that on level ground, you can fill it up until it starts to drip out the fill hole. Is that correct, or is there more complexity to it than that?
I have a 09 C6-Zo6 and at 32000K I got the heads done just for my peace of mind paid around $5,000.00 but now I don’t have to worry about getting on it if you do drop a valve you’re looking at all of $ 20,000.00 for a new motor
Lyle can you tell me if Chevrolet placed the C6 Corvette’s Computer under the battery as they did with the C5 Corvette? I have a AGM Battery in my C5 because of it. I also picked up a low mile C6 and I believe the Delco Battery in it is not a AGM Battery. I haven’t had any problems with the battery as of yet but would like to know for peace of mind whether I should get myself a AGM battery for it.
Lyle when I put the top up on my 2012 Convertible the dash display tells me the top is not fully up (or something like that) the top is fully up and locked in place by the center handle. What am I doing wrong?
I do have one question Lyle. In searching for C6 Grand Sport on Autotrader. It’s almost impossible to find one that did not have multiple owners. How do I discern which Corvette is reliable and Mod free?
Most cars that are 10-13 years old will have had more than one owner. They key is finding one that has a maintenance history available and then having a full inspection completed on the car BEFORE buying. Most mods can be identified just through pictures, but the inspection will reveal anything aftermarket other than changes to the internals of the engine or transmission. Lyle
Floor jack and jackstands work just fine, you don't need a lift to do it by any means. It will allow you to stand under it rather than lay down but that's all. Headers and full exhaust installation, oil change, transmission fluid change, diff fluid change all done in my driveway over a weekend with jack and stands no problemo.
All the engine's internal bearing tolerances are tuned for a specific oil viscosity. That means crank, rods, camshafts, pistons, rings, everything. We can use low viscosity oils today because modern production techniques can maintain rigid consistency for critical dimensions. Viscosity is equally important for older engines. If your classic 1980s BMW calls for 20W50 (which it does), use that. IMO, the cheapest oil Walmart sells of the correct viscosity, is the superior choice over the very best oil of the wrong viscosity. I ran a 1987 BMW 325e out to about 350,000 miles on Walmart's 'Super Tech' non-synthetic 20W50. It had good compression, low oil consumption, and ran perfectly when I sold it.
yes it does. lowering the car reduces the travel available to the shocks to dampen bumps in the road. Raising the car back to near-original ride height would improve how it functions. Lyle
I used the charging cable (red & black) to charge other car, then The automatic gear shift became loose, the car doesn’t move on R or D. It could be electric problem (gear box fuses or computer)? How can I check assuming the shift wire is fine ? Now If I want to tow the car, how can I change the shift to N, so I can pull the car on the towing car ? Regards
You can put the car in neutral by going under the rear of the car, unhooking the shifter cable and manually manipulating the shift lever on the transmission itself. You will also need to disable the shifter lock pawl that holds the shifter in park, as that solenoid has given up and will constantly lock you into park from now on unless removed.
It could be a couple of things, but ALL of them require the pulling of the dash to access the unit. It will be at least 4-6 hours of labor to access the unit. Lyle

hello! i put a BTR stage 1 cam, headers, cold Air intake, tune, and pipes! it was tuned so that at 120 mpr it dies down a little for safety on the transmission. what can i do with my transmission just to handle the engine…i’m at 423 horsepower, also heads was ported and shaved! i don’t need more speed but can my transmission handle it? i’m not tracking my car or drag strip, just goose it here and there! it an automatic! thanks in advance!
At 423 hp, you should be ok doing limited sporting driving. If you add more power, or decide to track the car you will want to talk to RPM Transmissions about your options to upgrade. Lyle

Here's how you re program your windows that don't roll up after closing your door! Simply get into your Corvette, turn on acsessorie and hold the window button up for three seconds. Then let go and do it again for 3 more seconds. Worked for me.... Fixed!
Something you should always do.......Use a battery maintainer/tender if your C6 sits for more than a week without being driven.
What?!
2008 base model, car has sat for more than 2 weeks (wet weather) and always starts no issue. 👌
Lol no…
@@LayneSteighlee Either that was at me or the OP lol, no need for a tender.
I use a tender because the car is seldom used. Would think a battery should hold charge for a couple of weeks though. If not, new battery time.
HELLO 👋 LYLE THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION JUST PURCHASED MY FIRST C6 GRAND SPORT VETT 😀 AND LOVING IT AT 79 YEARS OLD 😀
#6: NEVER put “regular”antifreeze into your C6’s cooling system; it is corrosive to the lining and will cause undue and expensive damage. The C6 requires a specific antifreeze like DexCool;
#7: If you find the rear end differential is making a “chattering” sensation while negotiating turns with maximum or near maximum steering wheel deflection, it’s time to change the differential fluid. NEVER replace it with ordinary differential fluid; the C6 differential requires a fluid with a special anti-slip additive to prevent the gears from chafing and causing metal shards to break off and cause damage to the differential mechanism.
Happy Motoring!!!😎
I had that DIFF issue in my C5 Z, but not my C6, yet.
What?

now say it again so i know you understand!
Which fluids are factory recommended for a 06 c6 corvette?
Consult your manual, the Bible as it were.
Always good to have a friend at the Vette dealership amigo!!

Indexing the window takes 5 seconds to do for each side. Just pull the window up all the way and hold for extra 5 seconds. Then do the other side.
You can actually hear a little click when the indexing of the window is done
Instructions unclear i shot the dog
Hold the window button for 12 seconds per side with the car running
@@mephomeservicesmeppartners304 ; Hold the window button up or down? I’m assuming you mean up right?
Yes was kind of confused why it was made to be such a big deal. Door closed. Hold in up position to relearn home. If door open..the window is likely down a little so not sure it will accurately rehome correctly. I do it sitting in car with door closed. Less than minute to do. Hold up and I usually do it twice to just ensure...then pop door open..see it drop 1/4 inch..close door and it goes to full up.
Great video! No fluff, plain spoken, no hype and straight to the point.

Hello again Lyle. Great service you're providing for us corvette owners. That was me. I changed out the battery on my 05 and was like "what happen to my windows". I found a video to reset those but I appreciate your offer to help.

This guy is awesome i am in the market for a C6 corvette preferably a 2005-07 i learned a lot especially about the transmission fluid check
You need to save a bit more and be in the market for a 2008+... So much better engine, fewer issues and more reliable transmission.
Kxng, I hope you took the advice from Chris H. He is correct. 2008+ later C6 Vettes have many improvements to the powertrain, the torque tube…..

New C6 Vette owner, thank you so much for the tips!
As a new C6 convertible owner, I learned something. I do leave that handle sticking up so I will fold it back flat now before the top folds down.
Thank you for all of the videos Lyle! They're a joy to watch and learn from.

Thanks especially for the tip on the latching handle for convertible top.
Another video that I learn something great job Lyle. You can always teach an old dog a new trick

Check that brake fluid reservoir twice a year, if it looks like pudding, it might be too late to avoid costly repairs.

Lyle, you rock! Thanks for making these!
How to index C6 windows, straight from the manual,
After a power reconnect such as battery replacement, the
window index-up feature will not function until the system
is initialized. Once power is restored, do the following:
1. Close the door.
2. Raise the window by pulling up the switch.
3. Hold the up switch for three seconds after the
window is closed. Release the switch.
4. Hold the up switch again for three seconds and
release.
Keep your vette on a battery tender! After 2 weeks they die! And when they die there gone permanently

Thank you Lyle
All good advice Lyle. When changing the battery, so one doesn't lose all factory memory settings, one's personal radio settings etc., would hooking up a battery tender to the battery cables first before disconnecting them to change out the battery maintain all the settings?
I don't own a convertible, but I enjoyed your advice on where to position that center handle before folding the top down. I haven't checked my manual, but is this procedure/warning contained in same?

Great tips!
These are minor, but they are annoying (and I'm a perfectionist! lol)

Had a c5 and lost the top twice. About $1500 apiece. Now I make sure I latch the top on my c6😖. Good advice!
Twice? Really? But, man, that's gotta suck... :(
Never neglect the clutch fluid in a manual car.
Third, most of the time you will have too much oil in the dry sump before the supply pump has properly fed the engine, which will vent to the intake and give you fits burning oil for a couple hundred miles, if you get lucky and don't hydraulically lock a cylinder.
bic1498 can you post what is proper to your points
It's added to the dry sump reservoir located where the batter would normally be located in a Stringray.
@@sulkmahidonkeydek3424 For the clutch fluid, refer to: ua-cam.com/video/gBbsy0LjUvE/v-deo.html
For the engine oil change, refer to the owner's manual. For my 2011 manual, it is on page 10-19 and says:
Changing Engine Oil and Filter
(ZO6, ZR1, and Grand Sport)
These vehicles have a racetrack‐ready dry sump engine lubrication system. This high‐performance system operates differently than a standard engine lubrication system and requires a special procedure when changing the engine oil and filter. bic1498 rangers method is not the proper way to change out your clutch fluid.. you need to get behind the torque tube to access the drain plug which requires you to drop the rear end.. rangers method is a temporary fix not a complete flush.. the cap with the oil grade on it is where I would refill the oil through..

Steve, I would love to help you on this but electrical diagnosis is complicated when I have the car in my shop...impossible to guess what issues you may be having from a distance.
Lyle :)

Thanks. I needed a new batterie, so I got the Gel batterie to be safe thanks again

I would like information about re-index the window regulators on my 06 C6. I put in a new battery this morning and I thought they had lost their mind. I had not been folding down the handle on the convertible top. Thank you for the advise.
Indexing the Windows
--Get into your vehicle and make sure both the driver and passenger doors are closed.

It is 2009 base conv.
My first guess would be the clutch master cylinder...it is the easiest part to access and replace, and the cheapest. Do that first. Lyle
What is the best oil for a C6

Lyle I've got a 2012 GS what brand of front & rear cameras do you suggest ?
Nice video, thanks I appreciate it.
Very informative, thank you!
How come I don't see Corvettes in the Bay Area like I did in LA? It's a ghost town up here, no fun.
not many, IM in the Yellow Convertible, "GUUDTYM" : )
Ok, sounds like the complex procedure for transmission fluid level really applies to the automatic. But you don't do much to differentiate. I am taking it that the manual is much simpler and that on level ground, you can fill it up until it starts to drip out the fill hole. Is that correct, or is there more complexity to it than that?
It is pretty much the same comical procedure. Get it warm, pull the fill plug--if it dribbles hot fluid all over you, it is full. :)
Can you put out a video how to replace 2013 Base engine air intake filter? Thanks so much…Jim

Can you talk about the problem with the C6 Z06 LS7 engine and the cylinder head valve drop issue . should I stop driving my Z06 and save to fix it
I have a 09 C6-Zo6 and at 32000K I got the heads done just for my peace of mind paid around $5,000.00 but now I don’t have to worry about getting on it if you do drop a valve you’re looking at all of $ 20,000.00 for a new motor
They didn't repeat their mistake...The ECM on a C6 is located on the outside of the RH front inner fender. Lyle
And you must index the windows for the convertible top to work!
Any thoughts on changing seat covers on c6.
Lyle
Any recommendations on fuel system-injector cleaners??
We use SeaFoam here for that. Excellent product. Lyle
Still not sure how to check transmission fluid level. What if you don’t have a lift?
TO my knowledge, there is no way to check the level without a lift. Lyle

Thank you!
Seems like my Vette has been lowered in the rear. Does that lowering affect the ride of the car? Thanks
yes it does. lowering the car reduces the travel available to the shocks to dampen bumps in the road. Raising the car back to near-original ride height would improve how it functions. Lyle
@@csvette, Thanks Lyle I appreciate your response.
New to your channel thanks for the important information 💁♀️ 👍 about the C 6 VETT
I have a 2005 C6 the heads up Display went out how expensive is it to repair and where should I take it to other than the dealer if possible thank you
It could be a couple of things, but ALL of them require the pulling of the dash to access the unit. It will be at least 4-6 hours of labor to access the unit. Lyle
@@csvette thanks
Lyle , I have a 2010 C6, and just had the fuel. Sensor replaced, I drove it home and it
Is throwing fuel sensor code and the gas gauge went to empty! Any ideas 💡
Call the shop that did the work and have them investigate it--either a bad module or a mistake during installation. Lyle
Anyone know how to reprogram driver memory names & settings for a 2009 C6?
Hi Lyle 🤗
I have a question that I hope you can help me with. I was storing my transparent targa top in the back of my 2005 C6 and the hook on the passenger side roof panel receiver cover snapped off. I’m new to my C6 so I was wondering if you could help me find the right part number? I’ve tried looking up the part but I can only find the passenger side roof panel receiver cover without the hook. Help?
Sure! Send me a picture of it on your phone to 941-356-3280. Lyle
hello! i put a BTR stage 1 cam, headers, cold Air intake, tune, and pipes! it was tuned so that at 120 mpr it dies down a little for safety on the transmission. what can i do with my transmission just to handle the engine…i’m at 423 horsepower, also heads was ported and shaved! i don’t need more speed but can my transmission handle it? i’m not tracking my car or drag strip, just goose it here and there! it an automatic! thanks in advance!
At 423 hp, you should be ok doing limited sporting driving. If you add more power, or decide to track the car you will want to talk to RPM Transmissions about your options to upgrade. Lyle
Lyle: My c6 low beam lights don't work, but the high beams do,, is it coming out of the same light? Any suggestions?
