Very useful. A couple of those keyboard shortcuts I didn't know about. I also chronically omit a footer row when it would be advantageous to use one. Numbers is my preferred spreadsheet app, for sure.
thanks for the intresting tips , just a quick question : on my iphone i dont get that yelo dot in the middle of the selected box is any adjustment have to be done in setting ?
I'm just trying to find a way to put a counter on my list of CDs... these videos are teaching me alot, but haven't found it quite yet, but I'm sure I'll get there. 🙂
There is also a. Menu option for Autofill under the Table menu. It only works when you have already selected the cells. So the keyboard shortcuts at the end of this video are the better way to go.
Very useful tips. I do however have an issue when I remove rows instead of adding new ones. Say I have a formula which works from row 1 to 10 and I need to remove rows 4 and 5. Now the formula does not work below the rows that were removed. Is there a way around that? (Obviously I am working on a way bigger table 200+ rows. On a 1à row table, I would simply drag the formula again and I'd be done in a literal second)
@@macmost A very simple one: in E3 it is "=E2"; in E4 "=E3" and so on. I would have liked to be able to write the numerical value in E1 and then have "=E1" in every box of the E column but I can't find a way to do that efficiently and have Numbers maintain the continuity between rows when I add or remove any.

A thing I haven't found in Numbers that I really liked in Excel was doing autofill from a dialog which lets one set start value, step and number of cells in column(s)/row(s). Every way you've shown is tedious when one needs to fill a large number of cells, e.g. dates for all the days of several years.

Hi Gary. Thank you for your incredible useful content. I have a question. Is it anyhow that I can auto fill Sheets by date or number? instead I have to manually title every sheet?
Not sure what you are trying to do. You want to create a new sheet and have the title automatically set to something? How often do you need to create new sheets that this is an issue?
Yes. Select the cells. Then in the onscreen menu that would appear above the selection choose Cell Actions (or tap the "⚡️ Cell" button at the bottom) and one of the options is Autofill.
in the numbers app on mac. is there a way to quickly jump to a specific row without manually scrolling? for example, lets say i have a large number documents with 1000 rows. I am on the 1000th row, and i want to skip to row 219 for example. Rather than scrolling, how could I get to row 216 within a few clicks?
A cell can't "push" a value on another cell. It works the other way. So in F2 you have it "pull" the value. In F2 you would put =A2 as the simple formula to do that.
This has been very insightful. Thank you Gary. 🙏🏽 Is there a way to make sure the date is written in a specific format say 01-02-2024 ((Date(two digits)-Month(two digits)-Year(four digits)) and repeat this every next month in different sheet?
You can certainly set the format of the cell to whatever you want. But if you are creating new sheets (every month? why?) then you have to set the format there too.
@@macmost Thank you Gary. I have also seen and learnt a lot from your tracking expenses video in your Numbers playlist. Hi, i want to pull data from Sheet2 (let's say column A contains order numbers) into Sheet1. If the order number from Sheet1 does not match with Sheet2, the result should be "Undelivered." if match pull date from column B from sheet , what formula can i use.
That's not simple. You'll need to use functions like MATCH, LOOKUP and more to come up with a strategy for this. Not something I can explain in a few words here in a UA-cam comment.
I have an iPad. I’m using numbers on it without a keyboard. How can the yellow dot method for auto fill can be used if the typing is done with the touchscreen or the Apple Pencil?
This video is for Mac. Completely different on an iPhone or iPad. Select the cells to replicate, then tap on the group, select Cell Actions from the context menu, then tap the Autofill Cells button, then drag to expand the area.
Great video thanks, I'm needing to do a column with consecutive financial years eg 2022 to 2023 (in the UK) so starting at Cell A2 2022 to 2023 Cell A3 2021 to 2022 Cell A4 2020 to 2021 Cell A5 2019 to 2020............and so on. I have not been able to autofill as it just keeps repeating the same numbers when I select 2 or more cells, then drag the yellow dot downwards. In other words Its repeating the pattern of what I have already typed but not what I want it to do which is automatically follow the sequence down to the year 2000. Is the a way to do that in Numbers please?
So you are using the exact text "2022 to 2023" in the cell? That's just text and Number can't know that you want two different words in that text to behave in a certain way for autofill. I would just type it for each cell (how many can you have -- only 20 if you go back 20 years). Otherwise, you can have a formula do this by subtracting the ROW() value from 2024 then append " to " and then ROW() value from 2023, etc.
How do I autofill a date at the start of each new row that I create on my table please? I am able to autofill the cells / rows I have already in the table but when I reach the bottom and create a new row to continue entering data I am unsure how to have the date column autofill with the next date so I have to enter it manually each time.
So does each row represent a date in order? If so, in the first row, say in A2, put the first date. Like 1/1/2024. Then in the second row, in A3, put the formula =A2+1. This will produce 1/2/2024. Copy and paste that into all of the other normal cells in A. Have no extra "blank" rows. So say your last row is 23 which would have the formula =A22+1 in it, showing 1/22/2024. Now when you press Return in row 23 to add row 24, the formula =A23+1 will automatically appear in A24 and show the next day.
