This was mind-blowing in 1989; the first time we'd ever seen (in live action) a superhero wearing something other than tights. BATMAN was the real deal.
In The UK it was rated 12, I was 11. I was so looking forward to the video release and was 12 when it was about to be released. Sweet. But you see, back then 12 was a cinema only rating. So instead of going with PG they went with 15 😭. My parents were strict on ratings. It still is a 15. Which remains plain dumb. The Dark Knight though 12 🤷🤷🤷
Is it just me or did they give that movie the ORANGE AND TEAL color grading treatment? That looks horribly artificial. The original had such natural skin tones.
In fact, Tim Burton at the time of creating Batman did not like the concept of a sequel, and even a continuation. He made the first part whole, where there is no hint of a sequel. The company literally begged him to make a sequel. For part 3, he came up with only a couple of ideas, but the studio simplified the plot for the sake of a larger fee and merchandise, which eventually became Batman Forever.
I've been introduced to these older batman movies and i can 100% agree, it is as if Gotham City is its own character, so much atmosphere - I love tim burton's depiction of gotham city and 2nd place is Joel Schumacher's depiction which was basically "tim burton's gotham on steroids" and 3rd place is The Batman 2022, 4th place is dark knight trilogy

Ha! My 9 year-old son and I just watched this two weeks ago. Knew he would love it. We went ahead and rolled through to Batman & Robin over the course of the week. I cringed with Schumacher, but my son loved them all.

Despite being old, the costume design for Batman really looks so cool. Specially that yellow Batman symbol at chest and the pure Black helmet are so amazing. Better than many superhero designs in today's movies

This re-cut trailer was so well done. That Batmobile after 30 years is still the most menacing ever made. And yes...in my humble opinion, even more so than the one in the Matt Reeves/Robert Pattinson movie. If you saw this car in a dark alley, you'd be frightened, not just of it but what you expect to come out of it. If you saw the Matt Reeves car, you'd think "Nice ride" but see it just as suped up American muscle. The Matt Reeves car was certainly menacing and aggressive. But the 1989 Batmobile...it would just send shivers down your spine and cause the hairs on your skin to stand up.
I camped out in front of the movie theater at 9am. The movie started at 3pm. It's the only time I did that. It was well worth the wait. One of the greatest cinematic moments of my life.

I kind of feel like the sequel was better in many ways but it's like Spiderman 1 and 2 or The Godfather 1 and 2. Each has their strengths and it's hard to pick one or the other. In any case the Burton batman films will always be GOATed.
Was living in LA when all the late 1980's hype for this film gave me one of the best experiences ever. Someone in my crew said one theater had a print ready to be shown. BUT it was word of mouth. Line down the building for a 7pm (IIRC) full house.
My favourite film ever... For me, there's no other Batman, Joker or Batmobile. Story, scenes, characters, sets, vehicles, photography... Iconic. I love everything. Thank you Mr Burton, Nicholson, Keaton, Ms Basinger and the rest of cast.

I was watching some old 1986/1987 episodes of Double Dare recently. There were a couple of questions related to Batman- One asked the name of the Commissioner that helps Batman and the other was simply what is Batman's real name. Neither team could answer either question. I think that in a nutshell shows the impact this movie had on our culture. You ask just about anybody in the post-1989 Batman world these questions and they are likely to get them right... but before Burton's Batman, these things just weren't common knowledge. Batman had not seeped into the public conscious until this movie came along and changed everything. 1989 Batman not only created the comic book movie industry as we know it today, but it brought Batman into the forefront of fictional characters- where he has stayed for the past 35 years.

This just shows that many many films from the past are far superior in terms of production design, costuming and just overall quality than today's stuff they churn out. Good job. Thank you.

This trailer recut reminded me of how I always wondered how classic movies like this would look if it was made today by the same director with the same script, but with all the current generation tech (cameras, rigs, practical/visual effects, resources for costume and set design, etc).
Both displayed a different side of Joker. Jack as the Clown/Trickster and Heath as the Terrorist For me it is Jack, since i liked his Joker being more funny but creepy at the same time as the devil himselfs smiles upon you

This is my Batman, Grew up watching both Burton’s films as a kid and still rewatch many times as an adult. Super excited to see Keaton again as Batman in the upcoming Flash film, which is the only reason I have any interest in the movie. Wish they would give Keaton another solo film with Tim Burton as director and Danny Elfman doing the music again.
Tim burtons Batman and Batman returns in my oppinion are the best batman movies made.. maybe not in everybodies eyes but i believe the way they make u feel watching them and the acting action soundtrack the lot are just amazing
This is a phenomenally recut trailer. But it also shows how important music is to set tone and mood. Imagine this trailer cut with the Elfman score throughout instead of awkwardly alluded to at the very end. That would've made this epic.
