Couldn't click on this fast enough!! Still one of my favorite 90s songs of all time, and in fact I was just singing it in the car yesterday! If you think she expressed emotion here (which is the shorter radio version), you should hear the album version. Absolutely heart-wrenching!!
My favorite Jewel song. She definitely has a way of making you feel the words.
Jewel's lyrics are always great. Back in the 90's I listened to her, Natalie Merchant, and Alanis, and a few others constantly. I called it my angsty chick singer faze. But it wasn't really a faze, I still love this music. Try "Hands" by Jewel!
I first heard "Hands" a few years ago driving up from Arizona to Utah for my Grandma's funeral - it will always be forever tied to her for me.
Beautiful song.
The music composition, the lyrics and the way she sings it... Haunting to the heart! It gives shivers to want to feel sad all the time... It is a masterpiece.
Jewel, from Alaska, studied at an exclusive arts high school called Interlochen and was classically trained. Left to live her dream and ended up homeless living in her van. I had this album within days of its release from my cousin who went to Interlochen with her. Foolish games became the song of my life after a five year relationship ended and he was married within three months. Screamed in my car on repeat for years. The entire album is flawless and beautiful and she has the voice of an angel with incredible control and tone. And you have to hear her yodel! Thanks for doing this request. I love your reactions and can’t wait to see if you dive deeper? New subscriber.✌️☀️🫶🏻💛
"Your thoughtless words are breaking my heart. You're breaking my heart." 💔❤
This came out when I was enduring my first crushing blow of heartbreak & felt like she'd sung my journal to life.
It still hits that tender lil spot thar lingers.
Great reaction 💙 (edited because I never proof read 🤪)
A beautiful song from Jewel 😊
She's brilliant! Live onstage is where she really shines! Great song!
Btw...you should do the entire Pieces of You album. You won't regret it.
Peace😁
That piano intro is iconic...total 90's nostalgia. Jewel is one of a kind. What an amazing song-writer & performer.
If you want a fun Jewel video...check this one out where she goes undercover as an "Average Jane" singing at karaoke night. It's hilarious and awesome: ua-cam.com/video/rmv1VhrtYRo/v-deo.html
I love that video so much, especially the elderly man lol.
Jewel "Good Day" and "Hands" are great ones to react to.
A Beautiful Song 💔
OMG this screems 90s. Such wonderful times. I love this song and live sounds just the same
Jewel is amazing! ❤ her so much!! Do ,"Hands" next.
Thank you for reacting to Jewel big ups!
I love the extended stripped down version on the album…you should give it a try…❤
You really should listen to her live version of Angel Standing By from the 1997 MTV music video awards. It is absolute perfection!!!!
Jewel was my favorite artist of the 90s. Who will save your soul was my favorite off this album. I had it on repeat in my car or house. It never left my CD changer at home.
She wrote this so super young..lol like as a kid..
This is one of my favorites Jewel songs... My second favorite is Pieces of You.
Yep my favorite Jewel song!
♥️💥 2 songs of hers...WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL and YOU WERE MEANT FOR ME!
Jewel is her real name and it fits.
She's from Alaska; was homeless in the early 90's; lived in a van.
This is actually the radio edit. I prefer the original album version: ua-cam.com/video/gG4Ba19HYYw/v-deo.html
“You'd teach me of honest things
Things that were daring, things that were clean
Things that knew what an honest dollar did mean
I hid my soiled hands...
Behind my back
Somewhere along the line, I must have gone
Off track with you”
You're making my past blast
This whole album from start to finish is excellent! Came out when I was in HS and I wore it out on my CD player. Jewel and Alanis are the soundtrack to my teen years.
This album was fire.
Loved Jewel's early work, like this song, and my favorite, Who Will Save Your Soul. Haven't been much of a fan since she went country. Great voice, but I'm just not a country music fan.
I don't know why, but I rarely pick out a Jewel song to listen to. Her voice is so beautiful!! Check out "Standing Still," but she has so many great songs, any song'll do! Enjoyed your reaction.
If you feel her emotions in this song.... Salvo please do a reaction to Sugarland "Stay". It's on another level with raw emotion and you can feel every word right down in your soul! Happy Holidays Sir!
Check out her live version from 2020
straight up will give you chills for days
Jewel is one of a handful of artists i prefer live.
I know this post is 4 months old, so I hope you read messages on your older posts. If you want to believe what someboby is saying in a song, You need to listen to Aurora, especially songs from her first couple of albums. She bleeds her entire soul into every song she sings.
Nice one here hope you love love you
btw I couldn't find your Twitter
I’m beginning to think you may have lived in Siberia to have not have heard all the genres you have reacted to🤡
I was not born or like 2-5 years old when all this stuff came out. I listened to blink 182 sum 41 limp bizket etc as a teen. I’ve heard all these genres are be specific, it’s the artists I haven’t listened to
She used to have bad teeth. Think she got em fixed
No, she absolutely REFUSED to have that “snaggletooth” fixed. She’s beautiful! Nothing to “fix” in my opinion.
From the Pieces of You album…… Angel Standing By, Adrian, and Painter’s Song….. she was brilliant with her lyrics! This is one of my all-time favorite albums!
I was a teen when this came out. I used to belt out the lyrics to it in my room 😂. Love this song!!
Saw her warm up for Neil Young and Crazy Horse...
She's so incredible. I still sing this any time I get near a piano
Loved this reaction, and I encourage you to follow up with more Jewel songs as others have recommended. For some reason, this one made me think of another amazing singer/songwriter, Patty Griffin. Very few people react to her, and I think you'd really appreciate her talent. She has so many songs, but I'd suggest starting with "Trapeze" (a slow one), and "No Bad News" (a more rockin' one). Keep up the great work on your channel!
I love Jewel
Jewel was one of those women who renewed my hope for the future of music, in the late 90s, after a long doldrum in popular music, a time in which I felt forced to retreat into the music of my youth for nearly a decade. Well, not completely, there was always jazz, blues, country, folk....but you get my meaning, I think, pop music sucked for a long time until Jewel and a few others came along, all about the same time.
There's a cool video on UA-cam where Jewel put on a prosthetic nose and glasses and a wig to look like someone else and went to a kareoke bar and sang a Jewel song and everyone in the bar was BLOWN AWAY at how much she sounded like Jewel. Then she reveals to them that it's actually her. It's a really funny video. You should watch it.
You nailed it man. Very powerful lyrics and song with legitimate emotions. Great call on whoever suggested the song!
Love her voice, her lyrics, her style. My favorite. THANK YOU.
This was off pieces of you her album and I can say this I was literally going through the biggest heartbreak of my life when this came out in 97 I was 27 years old. I remember playing this in my car and in my living room and my best friend was there and I was literally on the living room floor crying so hard into a pillow that I literally got a bloody nose! LOL at the time the love of my life had been cheating on me I had actually found a book where he had raided all the girls that he had been with and their phone numbers smh. Every lyric every word of this song can take me right back to that moment and now I'm 52 years old :-). She was this is a short version but she's a very good yodeler it's part of her singing technique and it goes back to her roots with her father I don't have all the details so I don't want to say something that's not accurate. Please let's go down the jewel rabbit hole. But as you felt when you watched this video just now I too saw how you as you said could feel every word. Literally the saddest song in my twenties was foolish games #JEWELISAJEWEL THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK WE LOVE YOU KEEP IT ALL UP. :-)
My favorite Jewel song! Another incredibly emotive song is Eva Cassidys stunning rendition of Over the Rainbow. Have you listened to that?
You have to do "Jupiter (Swallow the Moon)."
she's also one of the world's best yodelers - it's insane - check out Chime Bells.
Great song! Listening November 2023❤
Please react to her song "Carnivore". You'll love it. She has the best lyrics.
I came for Heart, subscribing since you chose Alanis and Jewel to explore, keep up the good work
Thank you that’s very kind!
Now you need to do Stay by Sugarland. You’ll be done, after Stevie and Jewel.
