    Simply put, Alanis closed out the 90s with this performance proving that SHE was the biggest female star to come out of that decade! There was just nobody like her! She took the world by storm in '95, and immediately became an Icon!!!! Jagged Little Pill is still to this day one of the best selling albums of ALL time!

      She's such an incredible talent. The raw emotion in her voice is so relatable. I forgot about her for a while, but I am so glad I rediscovered her as an adult. My mom and dad used to listen to her when I was a kid. These songs bring me back to that time

    I hate saying she's underrated because she's definitely not. But maybe unappreciated I'm not sure what to say but she's amazing and anyone who discovers her is blessed cuz she's an angel on earth.

    • @242-f5u

      She fell victim to having her music and certain songs played constantly on the radio. When that happens, a lot of GREAT artists are more vilified than appreciated. But years later, when looking back and really allowing yourself to listen, she is absolutely mind blowing lyrically, emotionally, and her vocals are astonishing. The music itself has an element of timelessness as well, especially this song.

    I was in high school when she blew up. She was the perfect counterbalance to the male-fronted rock music that also blew up around that time. Cobain and Vedder and those guys gave you the honest male p.o.v. of what Gen X felt and thought at the time, and Alanis. Dolores O'Riordan and those girls gave you the exact same thing but from a female perspective. Just mesmerizing. I must've listened to her debut album a million times back then.

    Though this was featured in the movie City of Angels (fantastic movie if you've never seen it before), she wrote it about a very persistent creep who was stalking her for a long time. If you look at the lyrics now, they make a lot of sense and aren't as cryptic as the wiki would have you believe. I thought it was interesting that it also fit the movie so well too which was about something completely different lol

    In the 80s there was a popular kids TV skit show called “You Can’t Do That On Television”. It’s where “getting slimed” started. A young Alanis was one of the primary kids performing on the show.
    The show ran its course, and faded away. And then in the 90s… she arrived in our lives again, all grown up. And dominated the music world, having a huge impact on young women worldwide.

    • @furryhoof647
      @furryhoof647 Рік тому +1

      Between You Can't Do That On Television and her international explosion were a few years of mediocre musical success in Canada. At that time her music sounded very poppy and contrived, she hadn't been given creative freedom yet. When Jagged Little Pill released, i thought it was the fake Alanis because it was the opposite of everything she'd ever shown us (It didn't help that she also went to my high school and we all had to listen to her rendition of the national anthem every day for years). Because of this, it took time for me to give the album a chance, once i did i realized writing like this can only come from a place of sincerity.... makes me wonder how many young artists are never given the chance to show who they really are.

    I have always thought she was underrated. But imagine having a song about considering having sex with someone then uninviting them and it being this dramatic. It should be. She knew her worth. “You speak of my love like you have experienced a love like this before. This is not allowed. You’re uninvited.”
    She is amazingly talented and this was always my favorite song of hers.

I know how long the original video is and if I clicked on the 12:04 minute video I was settled in for the "reaction" part of this video. The sound that you couldn't place was the electronic bass. She has a unique style and vocal range, and its a joy to hear you react to her music. Try "Reasons I drink", by Alanis Morrissette, its new and you seem to have done the classic songs (not all but a full album review is too much to ask for).

    Wow. Along with "Thank You" this is my. I believe this song came out after her stay in India. You can clearly hear the Eastern, Mid-Eastern musical influence. Along with Led Zep's "Kashmir" it is probably the best example of "raga" rock. Like 'Kashmir" it is both beautiful and haunting at the same time. It is food for the soul if you pay attention to the sheer musicality and her trancendent voice here.
