Keep in mind I drive 8.5 means you don’t have to push the mode button to activate Cioce anymore… All you have to do is take your hands off the steering wheel with 8.5 equipped vehicles
thats an awesome feature,. i also saw a demo of left, right lane assistance with camera view,. that is also a good feature,. u may want to give a demo on that as well,.
JP, Road view (incl HUD) looked good. While staying safe, are you able to back away a bit from the pedals (move your seat rearward)? That might give a better FOV so the inst. cluster is also visible. Other option would be to change the camera to one with a wider angle lense. Thanks as always for the helpful vids!
Hey JP, with this camera setup on this video, I could just see the road in front of you. It would have been much better seeing the live cockpit display. Is there any way to show both the cockpit display and the road in front on the car? Keep up the awesome work. I wish the genius at my local BMW dealer were better versed on a lot of functions.
Great video, thank you! 2 questions. Is there a HERE coverage map that shows which roads are included? Can I drive with my hands on the wheel without it shutting off e.g. collaborative steering?
How sensitive is it to any eye movement aside from looking straight? If you looked down to grab a drink or grab something below would it deactivate fast or provide you the 30 seconds that DAP currently provides?
I have acc pro on my 330i, I never try using assisted plus, I only had the one where you have to put the hands on the wheel but it turns. The only time assisted plus engaged was when I got into a traffic jam on a freeway, it automatically changed to assisted plus. But now, I guess I just need to try to switch it manually, I thought the modes were only normal cruise control and acc.
So for your 330i you’ll get distance control and ACC/lane keep. Then when you drop below 40mph in traffic it adds Traffic Jam Ass as your 3rd mode option
I own the ix50, and this feature just feels like a hammer looking for a nail. I played w it, but not sure I get the reason ppl want hands free driving and kind of a pain and not intuitive to set it up each time.
Setup needs a little zoom out and it would be perfect. You probably already know that by now. Thank you for the video! Also, I couldn't have driven with that dirty windshield 😂😂
Yeah, my issue is stabilization of the zoomed image since it’s head mounted rather than ceiling mounted. Though I’ll try that ceiling mount in my i5 m60 video this week
Hey Mr Dunphy, greetings from Germany! I really like your videos as I can't find videos like that in English in Germany. Do we have this feature on newer 3 models with iDrive 8? I can't see it in configuration menu.
They're adding this to the 2024 X5 LCI also -- any idea if they're planning to Over the Air update that functionality back into the 2023 X5 with iDrive 7?
Hi. Thanks for doing the video. I have an older X5 with professional and at highway speeds it ping pongs between the lanes. Very annoying but helpful as a second set of eyes. Does this drive smoothly and not ping pong?
So the older models do ping pong a little bit… This was fixed in 2021 with the newer models and a better algorithm to minimize ping-ponging… A 2022 update also further smoothed out its lane keep capability
So the x1 isn’t likely to get highway assist anytime soon, however you ARE going to get the android auto based iDrive9 if you get it produced past July of 2023!
Honestly i'm not 100% sure... previously the stop and go was a separate mode under the right conditions called Traffic Jam Assist, in my time with the Highway assist i haven't seen it come up but considering how it worked in the little traffic i HAVE encountered id say from personal experience that Highway Assist works in traffic as well (and seems to have replaced traffic jam assist with more functionality)
Not with the current hardware, that might change with the iDrive9 hardware change up later this year though. Best guess is if they DO it will be with the 2024MY
I have x7 40i Mar 2023 prod model. Let me clarify. If i set self driving assistant button around 110kmh in highway, mine does take full control. So 80mph highway assistant is still supported from Mar build. But i cant see AR in center display menu, though i see AR in right display. That is no big deal. This driving assist pkg is amasing actually!!
And auto lane change also works well as long as you see enough space in either left or right lane. After change the lane, you need to turn the signal light off. Otherwise it keeps moving right or left.
Hi, I got my 2024 X7 last week. I come with the driving assistant package include the highway assist. I tried to drive on HERE covered highway, and use assist driving, but assist driving plus icon never show up, no matter on what speed. Do you know why? My system version is 07/23.53.
I have activated the 3 month free trial and don't have driver assisted or AR view in the instrument cluster. Is that the way it is if you don't spec the option at build?
So the three month trial activates, basically everything except for highway assist… Depending on the model, you may or may not have augmented reality view in your instrument cluster, but you should still have all the other benefits of drivers assistance professional. Be sure to go in your general settings and update, apps and services to make sure that update got to you
i've done a nighttime test when the system first came out last year, it works just fine... rain had a similar experience, only once with a torrential downpour was i unable to activate it.
What is the difference between this and the driver's assistance professional package on older models? The one you showed in this video: ua-cam.com/video/RDXt01rrg20/v-deo.html I thought the main difference would be that the new one changes lanes automatically, but in that video, it seems the older one does too.
Basically nothing, the only major change is highway assistant (which is basically traffic jam assistant extended from 40mph to 85 ) and the thorough inclusion of AR drivers assistance visuals using the 4k front camera that was previously in digital form only.
I would like to see how it behaves if I don’t take over when the exit comes up. I ask because, I know this is L2 with L3 almost ready in Germany. I previously had L1 last year. It would get confused when I was only wanting to go straight on the highway but out of fear I would stay in the far right “slow” lane on very long stretches of highway. The white lines would steer the freaking thing off the Hwy going 80mph thinking the white lines off the exit were still the Hwy. I know this particular new L2 only works on bmw mapped hwys. What if I don’t have navigation activated and just want it going straight or I’m using apple or google maps in CarPlay. I’m going to assume those have nothing to do with this and the mapping for this is something internal I cannot see. Which brings me back to the first question about the white lines if I’m using this in the far right Hwy lane. Will it fly off the road like the my first L1 version of this tried to😂. Sorry meant that to be funny.
So the minute you’re going off the off ramp it will kick into tell you take control and put your hands on the wheel. Sorry to hear about your Kamikaze L1 experience :(
Thank you for the informative tour.

Great video, thank you! 2 questions. Is there a HERE coverage map that shows which roads are included? Can I drive with my hands on the wheel without it shutting off e.g. collaborative steering?
not that i'm aware of for the HERE database... but yes you can still drive with hands of if desired.
How sensitive is it to any eye movement aside from looking straight? If you looked down to grab a drink or grab something below would it deactivate fast or provide you the 30 seconds that DAP currently provides?

Absolutely!

I receive a X5 50e with i8.5 a week ago with Highway assistant and it doesn’t work

As long as you have iDrive 8.5 then yes
Does the highway assistant plus system work in stop and go traffic as well as long as you are on a highway? Or is that a separate system?

Pull up your contents option in instrument cluster, its labeled “AR”
