    With your analysis in mind, Gojo's line to Jogo when inside the infinite void, "Ironic, isn't it? When given everything you can't do anything." actually fits Gojo himself to a T.

  • @Kim-ng4ti
    @Kim-ng4ti 3 роки тому +687

    Basically Gojo's only weakness is that he is not as cold hearted as some might think. All his circumstancial losses were created because the man has a heart somewhere underneath being the strongest. Hanami and Jogo got away because he prioritized Yuji's safety over catching them and in general prioritizing Yuji's education over winning which was why he was there in the first place. Mahito was able to steal the cursed objects from the school because he worried and prioritized the lives of his students because he determined the true loss would be their deaths. That he couldn't kill Jogo, Hanami and I think the third one was Choso, right at the beginning of the Shibuya arc was only because he can't willingly kill innocent people in the process. Him getting sealed was only possible because they made use of Gojo's relationship with Getou, nothing else, no other villain could've tricked him and make him think of history way past 1 minute in his mind. As for the two losses when he was younger against Toji and the loss when he let Getou go the first time, I'm not going to include here because at that point ability-wise Gojo wasn't perfect yet.
    So, some people shitting on him for "losing" when this man's only fault is, that he has things he cares for, pisses me off. Just because he is the strongest sorcerer, doesn't mean he's the only one responsible for every single bad thing that happens.

    • @Lightwaverable
      @Lightwaverable 3 роки тому +26

      Wait, Gojo's loss to both Toji and him letting Getou go were also literally because of his soft heartedness I'm not sure why you didn't include them.

    • @Kim-ng4ti
      @Kim-ng4ti 3 роки тому +24

      @@Lightwaverable Now that you say that I think he had completed bis technique by the time he let Getou go, so I should've included that. But the Toji loss wouldn't have happened if his technique would've been what it is now, that's why I didn't include it, because some might argue he lost because he wasn't strong enough. But you are not wrong, I agree, I just wanted to leave it out because it wasn't *only* because of him being soft hearted, so for the arguments sake I left it out.

      @@Kim-ng4ti he lost against toji because he was completely outclassed, he couldn't keep up with his movements and was utterly outsmarted, the most he could do was sense the disruption in the cursed energy just before toji stabbed his neck but even with the automated detection his limitless gained afterwards the inverted spear of heaven would have killed him. And how are you counting geto walking away as a loss?

    • @Kim-ng4ti
      @Kim-ng4ti 3 роки тому +43

      @@a.garcha199 If Gojo was so outclassed by Toji, why did he have to tire him out for 3 days and attacked only after they felt save within the barrier and after he overused his technique? And later was killed with one attack by the guy who was so outclassed? I'm not saying Toji is weak or anything like it, it's the oppsite. Toji is a legend and complete badass. But against Gojo today? There wouldn't be a near death situation for Gojo, that's why he learned to extend his technique to the fullest because of the fight with Toji. Outclassed is simply the wrong term to use here. Outsmarted he was.
      And I counted that as a loss because he could've stopped or killed Geto right then and there at the cost of some humans that were there. Geto knew Gojo wouldn't kill them in the process. It's a indirect "loss" because he has morals, which a lot of people don't think he has or had which added to the point of my post. That's probably why Fake-Getou was so sure in the Shibuya arc that Gojo can't stand innocent people dying by his own hands.

    • @a.garcha199
      @a.garcha199 3 роки тому +5

      @@Kim-ng4ti yeah him tiring him out was apart of him outclassing gojo, a fight isn't purely power, I also said outsmarted didn't I? Toji kept him on his toes and created a perfect scenario in which gojo would disable his limitless, and then proceeded to put him in a body bag and the only mistakes he made were not cutting off his head or stabbing his head with the spear. Toji died due to adopting his pride once again which upon his death he even states that wasn't like him, he took the fight to prove to his clan and the world that despite having nothing he beat the boy gifted with everything, if toji was tasked with killing adult gojo I'm positive he would find a way to do so. To limit toji purely to his prowess in a straight 1v1 would be taking away half of his potential, his intellect and lack of compassion when tasked with killing someone is a huge part of his repertoire, gojo's love for his students is just another weakness toji could exploit.

    I don't feel like he was indulging in his invincibility. When he got killed and came back, it seems like he had a moment of Buddhist Satori or enlightenment. The phrase "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the Honoured one" is a direct quote from the Buddha when he awakens. Buddha also made this hand gesture. So him not wanting to avenge her was also because of enlightenment. He was free from earthly attachments at this precise moment.

" , so I'm not sure if he meant to imply Gojo was enlightened at that point.

    • @SeiryuNanago
      @SeiryuNanago 3 роки тому +34

      @@FictionApe For me, it is not just the sentence that makes me think of enlightenment but also his attitude in general after reviving. I'm also guided by the way Black flash is described as something that induces a sudden insight in curse energy for the people who perform it (but this is closer to the "zone" in sport). It is a bit like Gojo went a step beyond that during this fight.
      It doesn't have to be literal enlightenment but rather an aesthetic of enlightenment attached to Gojo. He seems to have this Buddha theme just like when they said that his birth or his very existence brought a change to the world of Jujutsu and also his particular appearance.
      Also, the kanji "Satoru" is the same as "Satori" xD (it do be like that in shonen jump manga)
      But I still think that the reason why he didn't feel a desire for revenge wasn't because of a power rush but rather because of the insight he had that made him feel detached from everyday reality at this moment. It is congruent with satori.

    Excellent analysis! I think you skipped over an important part, though, and it's the fact that he actually sought out Megumi after his altercation with Geto. It seems that that was his first concrete step in a different direction. When he sought out Megumi and made the deal with the Zenin, choosing to help and train him, that was Gojo's first step into teaching and raising up the next generation. In a way, his whole plan to effect change in the world through education to make their world a better place started with his decision to seek out and help Megumi which was kick-started by Geto's betrayal and his realizations.
    This is especially symbolic here, too, since the last two heads of the Gojo and Zenin clans with their abilities killed each-other in a fight to the death and here is Gojo extending a hand to Megumi as a mentor and an ally, making the direct choice to not repeat the mistakes of the past. This is also all even more relevant with what was just revealed this week in the new chapter. It's given me all sorts of theories and insight into Gojo's intentions.

    SPOILER ALERT
    One of my favorite parallels in the story is that of Gojo and Yuuji. At first glance, you'd think they wouldn't get along because Gojo is a cold and manipulative person and the range of people he'd care enough to get angry for is very small (probably just his students at this point) while Yuuji is overly caring and sensitive guy who feels angry/sad over the pain/death of total strangers.
    And yet the two seem to be walking down the same road. Just as you said, Gojo has a habit of judging people by their strength and it's pretty much a part of his psyche he can never completely let go because of his childhood burden (we especially see this in the way he treats Utahime) and Yuuji does the same because the person he respects the most in the world is Gojo (I honestly had no idea he was Akutami's least favorite lol but good job catching on the the fact that he never wins where it counts! I realized that on my second read) because he's the only one who can teach him to be the "strongest". When Yuuji meets people, he has a tendency of characterizing them in either stronger or weaker than him. Those who are strong are the ones he want recognition from (Gojo, Nanami, and I'm willing to bet Yuuta in the future) while the weaker ones are who he gets along with pretty fast because his hero complex tells him that it's his duty to keep them safe (like his first meeting with the second-years or how he treated Ichiji as his errand boy when he was at Junpei's place despite the man being much older...I wonder where he got that from lol). This, in turn, makes him overly arrogant and run off to do things on his own. Both Yuuji and Gojo want strong comrades to get rid of their loneliness but their god/hero complex keeps them from truly creating a connection with so like hypocrites, they never end up letting anyone close enough to let that happen. At the rate this is going, Yuuji's greatest fear (dying in the middle of nowhere with no one to grieve for you) is likely to come true for the both of them. I find it quite ironic that Gojo himself put everyone in Shibuya in a team while he waltz towards the enemy leaders all alone. The result? He gets captured and is more than just useless to his allies. He's now a burden. And then all the battles Yuuji fights alone, he loses horribly while the ones where he teams up with others are the ones he wins (especially the last one against that annoying cockroach... that was some mighty fine character development👌🏼).
    Yuuji's character development also happns in a similar fashion to Gojo. And it doesn't humble him either. They both went through trials where they were forced to fight someone who was a bad match-up for them, went against everything they stood for, and killed their friends right in front of the due to their arrogance. Gojo split up from Geto because he was confident he could handle him on his own despite being told to work in a pair which gets Amamiya (a female friend) killed because he wasn't taking the situation seriously. Yuuji split up from Fushiguro because he felt like it was his duty to save Gojo despite Nanami continously warning him that the situation wasn't in their favor and he should be extra careful... only to run into Mahito dealing he final blow on Nanami himself. And then also mortally injuring Kugisaki (a female friend). Then something positive happens to Yuuji that didn't happen to Gojo: he gets help from a friend. Todo was a life saver both literally and figuratively because Yuuji's mental health was at its lowest ever. Fast forward to the end of the battles: Gojo learns to use his powers properly and becomes even more arrogant and Yuujo also learns to use his powers properly and arrogantly chases down Mahito and admitting that he enjoys killing (curses). They both come out on an adrenaline feeling like they're on top of the world and scaring the absolute shit out of their opponents. It was honestly quite hilarious to watch Mahito the rabbit running away from Yuuji the "white" (symbolism to Gojo) wolf. Like it's no wonder Yuuji's his favorite and the one he has the highest expectations for. It's probably an added bonus that their sense of humor and overly fake/cheerful personas align.
    Wow. This turned into an essay 😅 big oof but I live analysis like these.

    It's funny, because I started to believe that the threats in JJK were kind of weak... until I was proven wrong in the Shibuya arc. I love that Akutami _explicitly_ mentions how strong the curses are, but we're so used to seeing them wipe out to the point where we start doubting their strength (I'm looking at you, Jogo).

    I think the Shibuya Incident Arc and Gojo being sealed could be the start of more character development for him. Sukuna is often taken as a comparison to Gojo in his approach to fights: he scouts the enemy (it is hinted that he probably immediately understood what Gojo's technique was about) and has respect for the opponent (in Shibuya he said to Jogo that he's strong and this recalls Gojo mocking volcano head and calling him weak), he seems to be more careful in battles in general and why is that? Although it can't be certain it could be imagined this kind of "wisdom" has been brought to him by being defeated once; Sukuna was basically a God in his times so we could guess that he felt the same way as Gojoabout the people and the sorcerers surrounding him, maybe a bit less cocky. If Gojo is brought back he will have to face the consequences of his actions (I'm not saying it's his fault he got trapped obviously) and seeing how all the people he cared about were thrown under the bus by the elders could lead to him understanding once more that strength isn't all it takes to win but you also need coordination and study of the enemy. In this sense being defeated could help him, much like what happened with Toji but on a knowledge level rather then on a pure power level.

    His humanity is what restricts him. He needs to do things the human way, or stuff won't happen because he's too strong, everyone would just be afraid of him thus obey him instead of changing for the better. He's arrogant, sure, we can see that already from the flashback. But he also didn't see the sense in how the jujutsu community deal with things. He sees it as foolish. His humanity is the reason why "Getou" made that scheme. Because he know Gojo would prioritize the lives of the civilians instead of going all out and end things quickly no matter the cost.

    @landmerry_6742 3 роки тому +33

    Alright so I heard "he probably never went through serious training before in his life" and had to pause and write this... because come on. The evidence doesn't stand. He was working on the curse reversal technique long before this mission started, didn't make any progress. It was the life and death moment that enabled him to do that; in fact according to Toji that was the moment he became "the strongest sorcerer, everything the three jujutsu families stood for", and that's why Toji wanted to fight him. What he did afterwards, especially the way he was talking about his abilities, in that cold, scientific way, makes it feel like he's testing his limits, prodding at newfound power in curiosity, instead of determined training (not to say he wasn't being serious with it). Take that with his in-depth understanding of his own abilities and you can tell that's probably always been the case. (From the author's perspective, he drew it like becoming stronger was an enjoyable experience for him, and used that to contrast Suguru's pain.) As for his comment about killing everyone... This is purely my understanding, but Gojo has always been like that (It's simple: if the author wanted to us readers infer that Reiko changed him, he would've drawn their bonding moments before Gojo started tiring himself out to protect her. Instead, he'd been doing it before he and Suguru actually got to know her, so it's most plausible it's because he's really just, by some miracle, a teenage sorcerer with an actual head on his shoulders. Of course though, as he was even nicer to her after they spent some time together, the point still stands that he grew to care for her very much. But also, as 2 days is much to short to from a real bond no matter how hard three people hit it off, it's probably her death that had the most impact, just like Yuji and Junpei. It's what *could have been* that hurts.) Gojo says what he feels when he feels them, and he lets himself feel everything, acting according to his feelings. It's a very simple way of dealing with the world: he likes Reiko, therefore he chooses to help her above other, nameless people. He says protecting weak people is a hassel, bc that's how he felt right after being scolded for forgetting the barrier, but wdyk, he's never stopped trying to save them (the same at Shibuya, there was that face where Gojo at 28 looked like he was thinking that exact thing, like: alright I'm going to do my best, but you should know you're extremely irritating (meaning curse spirits killing humans). When Reiko dies, he inquires Suguru if he should murder them not by saying that it would be revenge for Reiko's death, not by saying they deserve to die, but because " *I* wouldn't feel anything about it at this point." When Suguru tried to convince him with the "there's no meaning in killing them" speech, Gojo insisted on disagreeing with him even then ("Is a greater meaning truly that important?"), so it's probably Suguru's weight as a friend and his own (emotional) exhaustion that stopped him. Gojo has always faced his emotions while Suguru has always suppressed them; this is why the author chose to draw how Suguru kept going over the incident in his head while leaving Gojo's side of things completely blank: there's nothing more to say for his character after "through heaven and earth I alone am the honored one", in which "I" refers to the character's super strong sense of "self", enabling him to move on ahead even while bearing the burden of bodies.
    It's pretty obvious that what Gojo *wants* to do is the most important driving force of all his actions, no matter killing or saving. He never needed the greater good, the "protecting the weak is what we *should* do" slogan; it's enough that he simply wanted to do it and then did it. It's like Megumi saying "I will choose to save people unfairly" so from that perspective, I can see how he's the one who taught Megumi for 9 years. In comparison, Suguru is just as stubborn at sticking to the quest for greater meaning in everything, treating every being equally and disregarding his personal feelings along the way, it's just that the traget of his "greater good" changed from the"weak (normal people)" to sorcerers. (All Jujutsu sorcerers are worth saving. All normal people are monkeys, even his own parents. Take his pov and it's fair to the extreme.)

    Terrific analysis man! Definitely agree with this perspective and opens up some future potential for Goujo’s character development. A really well written story altogether, and I can’t wait to see the direction the author decides to take in regards to Goujo, and the other characters. When Goujo escapes, how will he react once he sees all the damage and the casualties that occurred. I wonder if this will be a turning point in Goujo’s story since this event has pushed Goujo’s ideals to their limit. He put his trust in his ideals, believing that the next generation was prepared enough to handle whatever may be thrown at them, but after witnessing the aftermath, seeing what will eventually become of Yuji, how will he react? After this ark, I believe Goujo is going to question his decisions, question whether he was right or not, and I think this will play into that conversation with Geto: he may come to the conclusion that he is actually Goujo because he is strong, and not strong because he is Goujo. That if it wasn’t for his laid back personality, lack of judgment in whether his pupils were prepared to handle this situation, and whether if he had done things differently if things would’ve changed. Obviously this is going to have a huge impact on Yuji and his character development as well. Seeing a parallel to Naruto in that both have a monster sealed within them, and that poses a danger to others. Yuji being feared by others will be hated, discriminated against, and hunted. Yuji will have to face his own powerlessness to save those he cares most for despite his immense latent power. The fact that he can’t control the curse, and the possibility that the people he loves most have, and will continue to be taken away from him because of Sakuna. I predict that Yuji and Goujo’s development will be linked somehow in that, both have a similar story. Goujo dies, and eventually comes back more powerful; similarly, Yuji has died once, and like Goujo came back more strong, both were born naturally talented, and both, despite the enormous power they hold, are ultimately powerless to change the world and save the people they care most about. In Yuji’s case, it was his grandpas words to save others that instilled the desire to protect within him, and despite the power he’s achieved, he’s still unable to do so; this plays into the beginning when Yuji couldn’t save his friend Junpei despite all of his training he did. Ultimately, Goujo is the same in that he couldn’t save that girl in the past. As a result he trained and got stronger, and tried to gather other strong allies. He trained his students and thought that they were prepared for anything that may happen, and he had confidence in his own strength; so as a result, when he sees the casualties and the aftermath of all the destruction, he is going to feel once again powerless to do anything about it. I really am curious to know where the story will go next and how the author will handle this character development in these two characters. As both characters experience a parallel character development, eventually it will all come together in a change for the two and a triumphant come back. But first they will have to travel the road much darker before they can make that a possibility. They will likely leave jujutsu tech and travel to seek there answers. Yuji will have to face his monster within to deal with this situation and move forward.

    I think after KFC breakup and before volume 0, Gojo alone was dealing with curses on his own, for almost 10 years. Because Getou became curse user, Nanami left Jujutsu world after Haibara's death. And Shoko would be mostly in her infirmry as a healer. Maybe Utahime and Meimei would be dealing with the curses but I think after KFC break up Gojo was more alone taking missions. Maybe there would be few missions where he might have worked with Utahime. But I still think that mostly he dealt with curses for almost 10 years by himself. How lonely and miserable he would have been. Bottling up all his emotions, pretending that everything is ok because he is the STRONGEST 😓😖

    Wow this was an excellent analysis. I absolutely agree with you, Gojo is one of the best written OP characters in a story that isn't meant to be satire. I found it incredibly interesting that he had absolute power, and he chose to refrain from exercising it in arbitrary ways. He is a man with a sense of "justice", and that requires his actions to seem just as well. Even though he's tempted to use his powers to simply exterminate a festering jujutsu society, he chooses more constructive ways to achieve his goal and that reflects immense wisdom, restraint and patience on his part. I fell in love with him, when I realized this. There was another video of someone comparing his character to that of the Buddha. Which I also think is a valuable comparison even if that's cherry picking.
    I think Gege's written a very complex and deep characterization for Gojo, but in the interviews and comments, the author has chosen to reply almost playfully to the superficial questions about Gojo. Maybe because most people cant look beyond his cool, handsome and powerful outlook. I for one, hope to see more of him soon. Gege said that the manga will end by 2023, so I don't think I'll have to wait for long.

    Exceptional analysis, as many others have said. Thought I already posted this but I guess I'm doing it very late, I would argue there is exactly one time shown where his power really made a difference where it mattered. The very first chapter, where he fights Sukuna. It is mainly Itadori who actually did something here, who managed to take back his body after a few seconds. But I think that is part of why Gojo latches on to him so hard afterwards, not only that he sees his potential and hope for the future that he represents. But also, he finally succeeded in something with his power in something that mattered to him, even if that was just holding off a, devastating to be sure, threat for a few seconds and telling somebody else what to do even if it were two simple instructions.

    Love the analysis man! But I'm not sure if I agree that Gojo has been careless or screwing around with his power. He knows he can only do so much alone and that with his strength he isn't compatible to fight as a team with others. I think he just retains that happy go lucky personality, but is actually thinking deeply and calculating how he can best leave a great impact on society. I also think that he could kill all the bad guys himself but would inevitably hurt his comrades / non-sorcerers, so aside from him training the young sorcerers there really wasn't much he could do.

    Don't ever forget: Gojo said about himself "Throughout heaven and earth I alone am the honoured one" and the narrator of the manga said "Throughout heaven and earth he alone is the honoured one" about Sukuna

      Can you explain me what are you trying to say?

    • @paraoczek6644
      @paraoczek6644 3 роки тому +3

      @@xourlovingbeautifulsoulx8165 oh I just apparicte how Gege made Sukuna and Gojo similar. Like they fight similarly, they both hold hands in their pockets, both treat their opponents without a bit of respect, they both view strength as one of the most important values, they don't care about these, who they will have to kill to accomplish their goal, and this quote. The only difference is that Gojou cares about someone else than himself (and also mostly because they might be helpful in the future) but this one thing makes so great difference. Like, the author wanted to show how close is from Gojo to Sukuna, but also, this is a one-way journey and there is so far from Sukuna to Gojo. I think it's a really cool point, what you think?

  • @toseeupload8855

    More like he's not a team player because he simply doesn't need it. Anyone fighting along him will get in his way. He will have to waste his time saving them instead of doing work.
