What even happened to Zeke? I know eren convinced Ymir to get the founding titan but what happened to Zeke, I know he couldn’t be bounded to the coordinate since Ymir is........wait HOLY HELL. What if Zeke is bound in the coordinate now?!
Disagree. Yes it has it’s flaws and issues but I think that the point the ending is supposed to be disappointing. I think Isayama wanted the ending to confound us and leave us saying “what the hell?!?” This show has always been a commentary and allegory for the flaws of humanity and it’s nature. Ultimately I think it stays true to the theme by showing that no matter what we do true freedom is simply unattainable. I don’t think Eren being a clueless slave to fate was outta nowhere. Call me a arrogant smartass but I think it was pretty clear that Eren was a unwilling slave to fate since the time travel reveal. Even his founding design is a hint at this, he’s literally being strung up and hanged by strings does that look free to you? Not to mention I there’s a pretty reasonable explanation for Eren’s behavior and that he developed multiple personality disorder or a extreme fictional version of bipolar disorder. This hypothesis is not without basis either, Eren was shown to have always been screwed up in the head since childhood he killed two men without remorse so likely a form of anti-social personality disorder. Couple that with repeated trauma and excessive stress in his adolescence it was only a matter of time before his mental state snapped. I guess ultimately it’s like Kenny Ackerman once said “everyone’s a slave to something”. I think that’s the point the ending wasn’t supposed to be satisfying. Eren was always a flawed character I think the fault was with us, we idolize and got attached to Eren when we shouldn’t of. Isayama wrote Eren not as a noble character but one driven by his wrath, rage, fear and obsession. Look I’m not to happy with the ending, I originally hated it as well and even went as far as to rant about it online but I think at the end of the day the end is the end I think we should move on. A far better use of our time and energy would be to analyze this story and it’s themes
I'm not even exaggerating when I say isayama is a genius. Like holy shit this anime is masterpiece and a half. Like this show should literally be taught instead of Shakespeare. Why not teach this stuff instead of Shakespeare? The character studies that can be down is insane
I completely agree. In reality... cliche endings don't exist. Isayama really takes AOT and gives us something that's far more realistic. Cliches only bring about emotions from the audience, but these emotions are forced. AOT is so different... because of its uncertainties and its cruelty... it brings our true, raw emotions from its audience. Life doesn't always go according to what we want, and AOT really embodies that truth. I want the Eldians to live. I want the Survey Corps to all live, but if it ends differently, I wouldn't oppose it. It's reality. If they live, so be it. If they die, so be it because it just is.
People expect a 15 years old boy to be act all edgy and cool in a world which no less than hell. He is the most humane character in the series. And he isn't a coward which i love.
Exactly. People forget that he is only a 15 year old he was only ten when his mom brutally died in front of him. And then he is burdened with power and fate of humanity its too much for a 15 year old. Let him cry and scream it makes sense unlike in some other anime where the characters scream for no reason.
MUDA.RAR I don’t think he means bad. You can be a horrible person but still be a good character. But Eren does plan on mass genocide of everyone outside Paradis, and will cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Not what I consider to be a good person.
@@Ifallthenumberwerehere if you aren't up to date with the manga then... SPOILER . . . . . . At the start of the show humanity inside the walls was trapped like livestock, Eren mentioned how he hated that cute a few times. And in the manga was confirmed how Ymir freed some pigs who were trapped. Pigs are a reference of literal livestock. After she got sentenced to death for doing so is how she obtained her titan powers by touching the source of all matter in the three and so all this titan nightmare began. :))
Even as a loud idiot in the first two seasons I still loved Eren. It was something about his conviction and fearlessness that resonated with me. My favorite scene is when he challenges the colossal titan without hesistation in the Trost arc whilst the other cadets just watched. I'm glad he's getting character development and is being more thoughtful, but I always rooted for him and always will
he has been my favourite since season 1 episode 1 since he was a 12-15 year old CHILD (may I remind you he's a fucking traumatised child, people should cut him some slack), I emphathised and understood exactly why he acted the way he did and why his 'angry kid' resolve didn't break until he was faced with some really shitty and traumatisinglife events. Then in s3, after he started to witness memories of his father because of the attack titan, he became so mentally drained like he was still as 15 year old kid when these horrible, gory memories of reality came and knocked him full force, making him question eveything he believed in and what he knew about the world... and he bared that burden alone, not telling anyone because he cared for his friends' safety (such as Historia)... idk maybe he could be a bit of a brat at first but that came from an intentioanlly good place. Many people are unempathetic who watches AOT and they have the intelligence of a spoon to not understand Eren.
Eren sacrificing himself for armin was such an underrated moment no one talks about it of it sad someone else on his place we would have remembered him as a hero.
@Merciless Freak actually that's not true, erens pure rage and desire to atleast kill one would have most likely taken over him and instead of sacrificing Himself, he would have killed the Titan instead, he pushed his own rage and hatred aside, something he has only done like once and that was the fight with riener (round 1) to save Armin.
@Merciless Freak Complete hate comment there and discredit there. Most fucking anime Protagonists wiil stand there shock being indecisive and dont move at all. Instead eren with one leg don't show no fear nor hesitation. Instantly sacrificing himself for Armin. Most anime cliche will use Armin death as character development for Eren
@@Eyeyorot Also, Because HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER- As said in "Attack on titan in 7 minutes"... "I CAN'T DIE! CAUSE I'M THE MAIN CHARACTE-" *Cue Him being chomped*
I like how his hair becomes longer to match his titan, maybe this can be seen as symbolism as him become more worthy of his power or embracing the nature of this world
Also embracing his bestial side, not so absurdly because he still need to have a clean face in order to be an anime protagonist, but who cares about beard or hair when you have the weight of the world in your shoulders
@@xirolbr now that I think about it, it would be cool to see eren with a beard and it would've worked well with his disguise but If it showed up on the titan it would have obscured the teeth so I can see why they didn't go with it
I’m gonna say it. Eren has completely, and effectively taken Erwin’s role. He’s abandoned his humanity like Erwin had so long ago. Which made them two of the most psychologically strongest characters. Imagine a beast titan Erwin, or better yet imagine a colossal titan Erwin with the transformation nuke at his disposal. If Erwin was still alive, I guarantee you that Eren would most definitely be a squad captain.
@_DRawP _ What about it? It was a line that Eren said in an attempt to preserve the life of his best friend. He believed it to be true, but just because someone thinks something will happen, doesn't mean it will.
The foreshadowing in the scene where grisha is talking to eren saying that he'll show him the basement but not looking at eren is insane. If you look at the recent chapters grisha is looking at older eren

El Andru for me the manga later on made him a better character. 20 year old Eren is fucking amazingly developed. He is an amazing character. Eren at the beginning prior to learning about the true nature of titans was a whiny brat.
What's most special about him is the fact that he learns, he's not necessarily gifted in anything like Armin or Mikasa but he is (somewhat) quick to learn and tries to change, imo.
Eren has to be the only main character to go through this much character development, especially as he's not a 'smiley, you can do it, charismatic leader, the one everyone likes,' right at the start, or for even most of it. I love it!
@@natalietwal6245 Manga Spoilers Unlike other Titan Shifters, the Attack Titan users can see memories of the past as well as the future, that’s its main ability, like Reiner’s hardening or Armin’s nuclear explosion. But unlike what it seems, its not just the power to see the future, Zeke calls it the power to transcend time, when one’s memories from the future can affect the past, and change the sequence of events. I still don’t understand it fully, but in what happened, basically Eren made Grisha eat Frieda through his future so he could carry out the Rumbling.
@@C3CC10 More like, anyone could have been given what he had. Think of walking up to a group of kids and handing one kid a large bag of candies. Others will see that kid stands out because he is the only one holding candy, but that bag could have been given to anyone else. Eren in my opinion was thrusted into this complex plot in the world by his father, an outlier instead of an inevitably. He obtained the attack and founding Titans from Grisha thanks to a strange time loop deal involving its special ability, but who's to say that someone else couldn't have received it, or done a much better job using it than him. Eren is not a holder of the founder's bloodline or a super soldier Ackerman, just a boy given a set of tools and told to "work". Like Spider-Man, the origin and set of circumstances all comes down to luck and possibility, that's just how it happened. Eren was a normal boy formed by his cruel world, and I love it. The author found such a good way to make him special through growth and not birth.

@@Nigben22 It's mainly because it recontextualizes a lot of past events and the meaning some had grown attached to within Eren's character (not necessarily his goals but his development or mentality). It portrays Eren in a completely different well rendering much of his words empty or confusing as new context was added. It is essentially a betrayal to those who became invested in his character(those who saw him in that way), especially after seeing this video, as this video almost served as a birthing point to many liking Eren's character. It seems almost as if the points made in this video do not apply anymore or the in other video, hence probably why Soul said "lol".
@@Nigben22 adding onto what Dylan said,, it abandons the shows themes and has an open ended ending which felt unsatisfactory and awkward, almost like it was trying to lead up to a sequel or something. it turned ymir fritz into a villain last minute which was unexpected from a show that had such a focus on moral ambiguity,, they also strip her of her themes of freedom by making her character be driven by her love for king fritz, who literally enslaved her, abused her, raped her, cut out her tongue, and fed her to the children he forced her to have,, instead of having her character symbolize a complete lack of freedom by her inability to have any free will of her own, submitting to any orders she's given. it throws in a love story between eren and mikasa out of nowhere, which was wholesome and everything but kind of made no sense,,, they excuse it by saying that eren was a dick on purpose to make armin and her hate him,, but still leaves no explanation for season 1-3 eren being a jealous asshole who constantly ignored mikasa and everything she did for him. the ending felt to me like eremika fan service or like a fanon ending someone wrote to make themselves feel better about the real ending. and on top of that a lot of the chapter just made no fucking sense and was confusing, it hasn't been officially translated yet though so i'm not blaming isayama or holding it against the story quite yet. i liked a lot of things about the end but ultimately it felt off i guess,, it's like the whole story was leading up to a different end but was changed last second (which is probably true because isayama said he had a different ending in mind originally but changed it after the series got popular). i recomend reading up about the AnR ending and seeing how much more that would have made sense in the story. one of my favorite things about aot is the foreshadowing sprinkled throughout the show/manga and how it managed to be both obvious and subtle at the same time, making it apparent to the reader or watcher that isayama knew exactly where the story was going from the very beginning. one of the major moments that cemented aot as a complete masterpiece in my eyes and as my favorite story of all time was rewatching it and realizing how obvious it was that reiner annie and bertholdt were titan shifters, or how ymir's backstory shows civilization outside of the walls, or ymir fritz in the story books that were read to historia as a child, and so much more hints left in plain sight that could have spoiled the entire show for me if i had just been looking for it,, but were still placed so well that i had no clue. in comparison, the end of aot and the changes in erens character especially create so many continuity errors and contradictions to previous aspects of the story,, anytime i try to think back on the show and on eren as a character in perspective of chapter 139 (in aot as a whole but especially season 4)i have to hurt my brain trying to justify it and why it makes sense. again i don't blame you for liking the ending at all, and i don't blame isayama for me being unsatisfied with it either,, aot is a super popular story that everyone enjoys for different reasons, and i don't think there was any way he or anybody could have written an ending that pleased everyone,, at the end of the day i still think it's a beautiful story and i'm really glad that you enjoyed it's ending! i just wanted to offer some perspective and i would love to hear the things you liked about it! i hope this helps

This. This is what I’ve been trying to explain. He’s not a perfect person, which is why he’s the perfect protagonist for Attack on Titan. How boring wouldn’t AoT be if he was a typical anime protagonist? He’s human. Stop hating on him. edit: Y’ALL this is talking about season 1-3 and NOT manga eren i stopped watching the video when it got to the manga spoilers but i know a lot of stuff that’s gonna happen and i do not support his decisions after season 3 lmao (i understand why, it’s well written, but i still do not support them).

People may not like his actions now( I like though),it's upto them if they like him or bot. but if some one says that eren is a badly written character even after going through manga, then he is just a hater and just ignorant
Eren is an extreme example of the change everyone goes through as they age, gain life experiences (good and bad), and come to understand the world. He is one of the most realistic characters I've come across in anime.
big thot Those are good recommendations, but sadly I've seen those anime series'. My favorite out of alll of those you've mentioned is either between Samurai Champloo or Trigun.
Not monster. He does whatever it takes so his people survive. In the beginning, its all about the worlds mistake. Why want to wage war against people of paradis? They are already living like hell. Not knowing about outside world, but because of marley greed they break the peace of paradis. They waging war because they are afraid of the fruit they bear. Eren jeager. I mean if the world not agree with marley to war against paradis this wont happen.
I think the point of the manga is to show us, that you shouldn't discriminate people because of their past mistakes and that if you do, you leave them no other choice than to fight... the reason they are "evil" is, that you forced them to be evil. The King of Eldia just wanted to live in peace on an island where he can't harm anyone but the rest of the world still hated Eldians, were afraid of them and ultimately wanted them all to die. So many people died, the Eldians couldn't live in peace and even after 2000 years the rest of the world couldn't forgive and that showed Eren, that there is no other choice. It's either them or the Eldians and he made his decision, because for him the only people that matter are his friends. The point of this story isn't to think in black or white or good or evil. The point is, that humanity will always fight, always discriminate people they are afraid of and that both sides are at fault of it and that humanity needs to forgive and to stop discriminating people to the point where violence is the only way out of it. Thats my take on it at least.
@@sourcandy6469 THIS!! the aot world is really complicated and not many people understand this. this is all about trials and perspectives and no one in aot isn't relatively a good or bad person because even since the beginning many were sacrificed and died brutally fighting for a chance to live or die trying. it's sad but aot also shows that communication is really important and especially in today's world because without it many misunderstandings can cause situations to worsen.
I agree w you completely only difference is I've always been on the Eren defence squad since I first watched the show. While everyone else was rolling their eyes at bratty little Eren being eager to join the survey corp and kill all the titans, I was cheering him on. Of course his idealogy at the time was rather simplistic but why should we expect anything better from a child growing up in such conditions? At least half the kids Eren's age should've grown up with the same absolute disdain Eren had for all the Titans. The beauty of young Eren's character for me was his ability to be and remain sufficiently pissed at the horrible situations he constantly found himself in. It made the character feel more real bc his reactions were always loud and brass and pumped w the kind of anger you'd expect an actual person to exhibit if thrown in the same position. Also, Eren's energetic response to his circumstances always made him more fun to watch than characters like Levi and Mikasa who barely react to many things and always seemed way too put together and focused at all times inspite of the never ending chaos that had become their every day life. Eren's breakdown officially made him my favourite anime character of all time and gave me a whole new reason to love Eren Yeager's character. Eren's admission of his own insignificance in the grand scheme of things showed a true turning point for the character and the entire thing was conveyed in the most Eren way possible - with a lot of yelling. The character of Eren Yeager has always been a beautiful one for me bc of the brilliant writting used to mold the character from childhood to adulthood. Eren's character isn't powerful bc he's special. He's also not perfect just bc he's the mc and that's absolutely the best route to take with every mc in my opinion bc it leaves room for growth and character development which eventually makes the show much more fun to watch and at the end of it all, you'll truly feel like you've gone on a journey w the mc.
@Merciless Freak LMFAO. Don't try to be mature if you have zero ideas for character development. Never seen you giving actual arguments on how Eren is lame and only giving stupid headcanons.
@Merciless Freak lmao l keep seeing you in this comment section. I didn’t know that people like to waste their time being a stupid eren hater without any reasoning
Well I think he got that from his father. Gresha in his younger days was sick of marley enslaving eldians and wanted to fight for eldian's freedom. Eren gets his looks from his mom but he has the personality of his father's in his younger days and the idea that the walls is actually a cage to him is something that is common to Keith.
@Merciless Freak you dont know character development if it slapped you in the ass. and first of all i can like tokyo ghoul just because you dont like it you dont have to talk shit. levi lover
I DON'T WANT THAT! I DON'T WANT MIKASA TO FIND ANOTHER MAN! I WANT HER TO THINK ABOUT ME AND NO ONE ELSE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! EVEN AFTER I DIE... I WANT BE AT THE FRONT OF HER MIND FOR A WHILE! 10 YEARS AT LEAST!!!
Its weird to call eren the villian when there are no heroes in the story. They are all terrible people but eren has the most power and i think thats what made him the worst person.
I like what you said about how Eren is a shonen character in a seinen series. Like we can see how annoying a teenage shonen mc is when u place them in a much more gruesome and serious situation.
Nadim Ahmed no idc if it's released in shounen magazin aot is seinen for many reason sure you can call it shounen in first 2 seasons but in uprising arc it dramatically turned it's course and demopgraphic imo with all the highly complex politics, basement reveal, more politics, viloence, gore, death etc. Shounen is for publicity, they can't change it's status in the middle of the manga.
@@orangenade3707 if that’s what you firmly believe than good on you but if you wanna debate than sure read up, throwing insults ain’t gonna do anything. Here’s part one of my most recent take on the ending. Yes the ending has it’s flaws and issues but I think that’s the point the ending is supposed to be conflicting. I think in a odd sense it’s flaws are what make the ending fitting for Aot. This show has always been a commentary and allegory for the flaws of humanity and it’s nature. Ultimately I think it stays true to the theme by showing that no matter what we do true freedom is simply unattainable. I don’t think Eren being a clueless slave to fate was outta nowhere. Call me arrogant but I think it was pretty obvious that Eren was a unwilling slave to fate since the time travel reveal. Even his founding titan design is a hint at this, he’s literally being strung up and hanged by strings like a puppet does that look free to you? (It’s also a reference to the Norse god Odin when he hanged himself on a tree and sacrificed a eye for enlightenment. Aot has a lot of Norse symbolism) Not to mention I believe there’s a possible explanation for Eren’s behavior and that’s that he developed some extreme fiction version of multiple personality disorder disorder to cope with the atrocities he’s committed. This hypothesis is not without basis either. Because of Paths Eren experience time all at once past, present and future thus splintering his psyche. He was shown to have always been screwed up in the head since childhood he killed two men without remorse so likely a form of anti-social personality disorder. Couple that with repeated trauma and excessive stress in his adolescence it was only a matter of time before his mental state snapped. I guess ultimately it’s like Kenny Ackerman once said “everyone’s a slave to something”. I think that’s the point the ending wasn’t supposed to be satisfying, the cycle of violence wasn’t broken and history will only repeat itself. I don’t even think Eren could’ve succeeded in completing the rumbling. As far as I can piece together from the little explanation and exposition we got it looks like time travel in Aot works fairly deterministically. (Eren says time in path exists all at once and we saw Eren try to deny his visions by testing the accuracy of them) That’s the tragedy of Eren Yeager, he wanted freedom and free will but you can’t exactly have that when you know what’s gonna happen anyways. Ironically in his pursuit of freedom Eren lost his free will and individuality. Eren even denied this fact and kept trying to convince himself he was free but the moment Sasha died that was the breaking point. Eren asking Mikasa what she was to him and her answer really wasn’t that important it’s the implications of her answer. Eren didn’t start the rumbling cause he was “friend zoned” it was cause if Mikasa had answered differently it would’ve meant Eren’s visions of the future are just possibilities but since she answered exactly as he saw that proved to him he really was trapped and that he had no freedom. Even the fact that Eren could only kill 80% of the world is more proof of this. If he could’ve just killed a few more people that’d be enough to prove to himself he really was free but alas he couldn’t even do that. Eren ultimately trapped himself in a self induced time loop, in the end Eren lost and determinism and fate won. Eren was always a flawed character I think the fault was with us, we idolize and got attached to Eren when we shouldn’t of. Isayama wrote Eren not as a noble character but one driven by his wrath, rage, fear and obsession. Aot was never a story about freedom and ideology it was always a story of humanity in all it’s beauty and complexity yet also how twisted, immoral and corrupt it can be. Look point is it’s a conflicting ending I’m still processing me thoughts and thinking about the ending a month later. I originally hated the ending and even went as far as to rant about it online, but thinking back it actually had a lot of depth. This was a controversial ending but love or hate it I think at the end of the day the end is the end and it’s about time we all made our peace with it. Just my two cents
@@orangenade3707 I honestly think that chapter was pretty good in concept just not in execution. I think a good deal of the problem was just bad dialogue and even than it isn’t Isayama fault. Japanese fans are saying that even the official translation was botched so we have the publishers to blame for the awkward dialogue. Anyways here’s part two of my analysis: The dialogue was certainly on the nose but I think that they aren’t supposed to be taken at face value. Eren’s line about not knowing why he started the rumbling wasn’t really the reason he started the rumbling but more so how he feels about it. It was already established in chapter 131 that Eren wanted the rumbling and to wipe everything away but was remorseful for the way he felt especially once he realized the costs. It can even be argued he’s in a sort of disbelief at his actions, it’s also the reason Eren was a child shown as a child in the paths a important thematic detail many seem to forget. The atrocities he committed took such a toll he reverted to a child like state back when Eren had a very one dimensional world view of the enemies being evil just to prove to himself what he was doing was right justified, but deep down Eren knew how rotten and selfish his actions were but he refused to accept that. I also think that Armin thanking Eren had far more depth to it but was just badly worded. I doubt Armin actually agreed with Eren’s actions but it was more so to comfort or sympathize with Eren in his dying moments, remember this is the last interaction between the two before Eren’s death. In the Japanese version apparently Armin’s line went something closer to “thank you for bearing the burdens you had to we won’t let the opportunity go to waste” see how much better that is? I think it’d be even better if it’d simply been changed to “I’m sorry you had to do this, I’m sorry you were pushed to bear this burden”. It would’ve accomplished the same thing without being misinterpreted as Armin suddenly agreeing with Eren while simultaneously being a lot less on the nose. I honestly think that Armin is one of the most important characters in Aot possibly even more so than even Mikasa not necessarily cause of his achievements but what he represents. The only thing Eren ever truly did out of his own free will is befriend Armin. Now ever since time travel was introduced the range of possibilities and what paths Eren influenced was almost endless however even if paths Eren setup child Eren to meet Armin, Eren would’ve still had to been the one to make the choice to befriend Armin. Ultimately with what little free will Eren ever had the one choice that was truly bone without any possible influence was to befriend Armin so by freeing Armin he is by extension freeing himself as Armin could arguably be the literal and metaphorical symbol of Eren’s freedom

I think Eren is the most developed and well written character of all . He isn't all good . He acts according to the situation. If any of us were in his place we also would have reacted that way. Not to mention he isn't always right just bcus he is the protagonist. He knows that he is going to die soon n he is making use of his time. He acts the same way a 15 year old would and then in manga we can see his matured and developed version. After he got his power he didnt master it at once. It took months and months to master it and finally he did. So if any1 says he is overpowered ,you are dumb nothing else. Overall he is the kind of character that I want to see in such an anime where survival is important . Hats off isayama for introducing such a character.

i dont think he treated mikasa like shit, i think he felt like she was undermining his ability to fight on his own, he wants to be strong, not have his adopted sister trying to babysit him.. tbh id feel the same way..
Well, no. He has an inferiority complex, and while yes, she did act overprotective at times, she also saw his mother die in front of her, so it makes sense.
Mikasa acts like an overly protective mother figure to him and at his age he’s a rebellious kid while Mikasa is more mature and grown up for her age so I understand why he appeared to despise her.
the people who hate Eren's character because he's too dull are the same people who dislike how AoT is not about fighting Titans anymore. They are 12 years old who are just looking to see badass fighting sequences.
THANK YOU! You deserve a cookie, my man! But those who translated the name *Shingeki no Kyojin* to *Attack on Titan* are also to blame. The idea of *Shingeki no Kyojin* being only about figthing titans is a consquence of its english name, because *Attack on Titan* really instills a figthing vibe and nothing more, when that's utterly wrong. *Shingeki no Kyojin* actually translates to *The Attacking Titan* or *The Advancing Titan* in the english language. Both of those names are definitely more enigmatic and instill a mystery vibe to Isayama's work, right? Right. *Shingeki no Kyojin* stopped being about attacking the titans the moment Eren (The Attacking Titan) showed up and punched a titan's jaw off. All of the *black* and *white* feel of *we know who our enemies are* disappeared the moment *The Attacking Titan* appeared, thus becoming more and more greyer as the story progressed. The name *Attack on Titan* really hands out a wrong feeling to all of us reading/watching such a masterpiece as *Shingeki no Kyojin.* Therefore, when *Shingeki no Kyojin* stopped being about attacking the titans (specially during the Uprising Arc) people quit/got upset, which would have not happened if the english name was bloody correct.
@@bakh554321 I just searched up when the manga chapters released and the stuff that it's currently up to came out in April 2018 while this was a month beforehand
It IS a Shonen series. It might feature deeper meanings and philosophical conjecture on par with the likes of Death Note and FullMetal Alchemist, but it is absolutely still a shonen.
To all the Eren haters: you have to understand that this is a fifteen year old kid he might not have been the strongest but he developed and learned to use his powers. Yes, I know he did make mistakes, but it would not be a good story or a good main character if he was perfect. In conclusion I believe that people see him as weak because he got kidnapped a few times, but you have to consider that literally everyone as after him. So plz stop hating now him.
I don't know why people hated him from the beginning? He just 15 years old and doesn't know anything and doesn't have experience in life .. so he is reckless and foolhardy .. He is only a reckless and weak child born in a harsh and painful world!!! He is my favourite character from the beginning till the end!
Roro Charlotte well I mean.. him being 15 doesn’t have that much to do with it. No actually never mind. I’m 15 and I’m the same as him except for the not knowing anything and not having experience in life.
@@yellowelephant7368 Yes it was, but it was still very smart of him, and another detail showing how he improved his analytical skills, not that he had none to begin with but there was room for improvement I admit lol
One thing that has always played in the back of my mind is that absolute tenacity that Eren seems to have always had and looking back on all these UA-cam videos made me think about it more. Besides Uri Reiss's inheritance, the only other Father to Son Titan inheritance has been Grisha to Eren, the difference being that Eren was directly conceived by a Titan shifter. The Titan being the Attack Titan, no less. From what Grisha said about Eren as a child and how he had trouble making friends and how he was always getting into fights and the such, it makes me question on whether Eren was affected by Grisha's Attack Titan genes when he was conceived seeing as Eren's personality reflects the spirit of the Attack Titan which, according to Eren Kruger, has always fought for freedom. Eren seemed such a spitfire even as a young boy and he seemed to be the only one that was angry by being caged behind the Walls. What other 10 year old child would go off to save a young girl he had never met from three grown men all by himself? A child born from the wild genes of the Attack Titan, perhaps.
Interesting theory but I have a different one of my own. Given that the Attack Titan users seemingly have access to future memories and the fact that external wills are sometimes passed down the paths connecting the generations of the Attack Titan users, maybe even before the users get their powers, the will of their ancestors might have influenced them and set them on the path to fight against fate and achieve freedom. I think the lives of the Attack Titan users were meant to take the direction they did. So ironically, the people whose core ideology is to fight against fate are the ones most tightly bounded by fate(They are bound by fate to fight against fate. Pretty paradoxical but very deep). You could also say that the reason for the Attack Titan ideology is because of the fact that they are bound by fate the most.
@@RyukHunter I agree with that. Especially since when Eren was introduced in episode 1 he seemed to be confused and to be in the process of receiving visions of the future. Paths go beyond spacetime after all.
I don't know why people hated him in the first place, I actually always admired his character. I, like everybody else, was horrified at his mother's death and was rooting for him right when he swore vengeance and I've enjoyed his struggle to control himself and his recent development, as scary as he's been, is kinda what I hoped his character would become and I'm very satisfied. In fact I might like Eren as equally as Levi. I particularly liked that Eren was the bravest cadet, attributed to his vengeful drive, and wasn't afraid to show it as it inspired the other cadets to be braver. His temper and brash nature could get in the way but he's had to learn to control it over time and actually has (remember when fighting Annie he was purely driven by rage yet when fighting Reiner was clear headed enough to use Annie's skills against him rather than just brute force). I also liked that he wasn't a particularly skilled warrior to start with because it gave him more ground to develop and has gradually had to learn to rely on his friends rather than tackle everything by himself, even after discovering his Titan power, because even with his will it was Mikasa's strength and Armin's knowledge that held them all together. I also don't think people give him credit for is his empathy. He's wrathful but he didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for Armin, grew up believing Reiner, Bertolt and even Annie were descent people and was heartbroken by their betrayals, admired Levi Squad and was devastated at their deaths and was almost broken when he couldn't save Hannes, hell he cried when Bertolt was killed. I think people forget that Eren is still a teenager and isn't a hardened warrior like Levi so he's still quite emotional despite his rage. His recent development has been kinda scary but he's gained a much better perception of the world and his drive to destroy his enemies isn't just out of vengeance anymore but out of duty and his massacre of Marley gave the Survey Corps and impressive victory and gained them the Warhammer Titan, especially when these people literally just declared war against them. Maybe it's just me but I actually like stories where the protagonist is flawed as it gives more room for development over time and I think it's paid off and sometimes that's what makes a great character.
What really annoyed me about him was his black and white thinking and how he was always driven by hatred sometimes without thinking things through and ruins plans sometimes BUT that's totally understandable and it shows humanity
@@TheLily97232 well i know mc who's always ruins plans like Gon cause he's an adrenaline addict. But can you show me in what case Eren ruins plan cause I don't remember one. His black and white view obviously because he's young and ignorant of the world. Idk if you read the manga or not, but the older Eren admit that Rainer wasn't evil, and he's just as bad as him.
Finally found another person who's understand Eren's character. You explained him very well. I've always admired him since episode 1. A 10-year-old boy understand that he's not a free man, and figured that the way he lives is no better than a cattle. He was wrathful but also loving to people around him, brave but still believe and relying to his comrades, and like hannes said "I never saw him win, but I never saw him give up either", give up is never in his nature, he won't give up on Armin even when mikasa has.. I don't like his hot blooded temper, but just like you said I see it as a room for improvement. I knew he'll overcome it and he did. He wasn't much of a leader nor a strategist either and now he's leading his own faction. Man, just proud that he's my favorite character since day 1.
@@bkmanager7664 Sure, but he did intentionally kill civilians. At least Reiner shows some remorse and even goes as far as attempting suicide because of his guilt. Eren knows what he's done and is completely ok with it.
This is a really great video! Although I'm surprised you didn't mention Carla's "born into this world" monologue. After months of trying to justify himself as this chosen one to cope with the death he's indirectly caused, he's at his lowest point knowing that he was never special. Then, his dead mother's philosophy gives him a new perspective on life. Weather he's some prophet or not doesn't matter, the fact that he exists alone makes him meaningful. It's also tragic to consider in the long run. Eren had just bounced back from a suicidal depression, his relationships are now strengthening, he's become much more mature and pragmatic. Only to lose their leader (and most of their comrades), learn the truth about the outside world, be haunted by his father's past memories, and finally learning about the tragic and evil things he does in the future. He regresses to the point where he uses his mother's philosophy to justify his omnicide to Zeke.
I could never hate Eren during the Serumbowl because if that was my best friend dying, and I had some way to save them, I'd go through anyone who'd try and stop me. No one would be completely calm and rational during a time like that. Not even Levi was when he wanted to save Erwin. I highly doubt Levi himself was thinking about humanity at that point. Arguably, Levi was as close to Erwin as Eren is to Armin. The Serumbowl was just two grieving sides meeting in the middle with only one of them getting the chance to bring their friend back to life.
Also, Eren had the right to the Serum. It was thanks to EREN that humanity got their victories. First victory in Trost, Eren was the only hope. Saved the 104th and sealed the hole granting success. Second victory, Shiganshina, Key to defeating Reiner and assist in defeating Bertholt along with sealing the breach.
+The Vigilant It unfortunately doesn't work like that. Decisions leading towards the best odds of survival stay a priority. And choosing between Erwin and Armin's skills was a tough one.
Dina did say that she'll search for Grisha before she got turned. I guess she, deep in her subconscious, searched for the nearest related people because Grisha wasn't there.
Dina's Titan is abnormal, which means, they have 1 single objective. Dina wanted to find Eren's mother and everyone related to her so when she turned into an abnormal, that was her objective, killing Eren's mom and everyone related to her.
Oolong Tae it's going to be 2 arcs. The manga published a "season 3 box set" of the manga volumes and it goes from volume 13-volume 22. They wouldn't risk releasing that and spoiling people if it wasn't going to cover that much
Rory reviewer oh cool! Thanks for mentioning this to me, I was quite confused for a while lol. Well, that just makes me anticipate season 3 even more!~
Eren is a good character because he portrays how pretty much all of us are when we grow up in a calm, loving and caring environment. As kids you believe you can be and do anything you want, just do your best and keep hope. We don't even consider anything could be in our way. Or anyone. It's similar to The Promised Neverland. We all once experienced this moment in our lives, when our innocence was suddenly removed by the harsh reality of our cruel world. I had a really bad personal life experience at the age 11 when I learned the world is cruel. That people are cruel. I think this is why Eren is so disliked by many in the beginning. Because we - the readers/watchers - already had that experience. It's part of becoming an adult. We already know the truth, that it isn't black and white. And it's annoying to watch a kid not seeing that just yet. It's like watching a horror movie and scream at your tv not to open the fucking door. Eren is us. This is why I like his character so much. It shows how it's someone who can have hope and motivation. Later question it and change his views, but can also be an evil and bad person if he chooses to. This can happen to all of us.
This is exactly why I like his character so much. He’s such a well written character that it gets fairly annoying to see people write him off as a bad character. He’s a great character, and I don’t say that lightly or to just any character. I mean it when I say that he’s one of the most well written characters I’ve seen.
@@rogginmynoggin_ there are reasons why near the ending things become wierd which brings is to that half assed ending, Ishiyama-sensei is cornered by many problems about the manga and anime release that if you care enough to go look and search for it, you'll understand (I wouldn't say it here cuz it's tiring to explain it all unless there is someone kind enough to do it). Isayama : lmao no
We are clowns lol

From a naive kid, to a war hero, to an elite soldier, to a war criminal, to a monster.
To hero again
I mean he only wants to genocide Marley for the "peace" of Eldia

The name *Attack on Titan* really hands out a wrong feeling to all of us reading/watching such a masterpiece as *Shingeki no Kyojin.*
Therefore, when *Shingeki no Kyojin* stopped being about attacking the titans (specially during the Uprising Arc) people quit/got upset, which would have not happened if the english name was bloody correct.

It reminds me somehow about the D of One piece.
@@RyukHunter I agree with that. Especially since when Eren was introduced in episode 1 he seemed to be confused and to be in the process of receiving visions of the future. Paths go beyond spacetime after all.
@@RyukHunter This might give special meaning to the fact that Armin's narrative is directed "to you, 2000 years from now."
Isayama, the creator, the father of eren. Killed his own child. He did eren so dirty in the end chapter.
I love the new Eren, his character development is the best I've ever read in a Shonen manga.
SNK is not a seinen?
@@lain5858 no
Vegeta would like a word
@@lain5858 its basically a seinen. Up there with berserk, vinland saga and so on.
Shounen and seinen is not genre
Some just have to re watch the anime
@Eobard95 Preach
I never hated Eren in any moment. He is a brilliant character and I would support him all the time
s43 w4v3s same.
Even when he killed civilians?
Honest_Bishop Yep. No one has their hands clean in a war.
@@bkmanager7664 Sure, but he did intentionally kill civilians. At least Reiner shows some remorse and even goes as far as attempting suicide because of his guilt. Eren knows what he's done and is completely ok with it.
Honest_Bishop "Why? Because I'm the same as you." -Eren Jaeger to Reiner Braun
+The Vigilant
It unfortunately doesn't work like that. Decisions leading towards the best odds of survival stay a priority. And choosing between Erwin and Armin's skills was a tough one.
Dina was even's father's first girlfriend and wife and she ate his second wife
Coincidence, I think not
Moral of the story: don't let your ex-wife near your family.
Grammatically correct? I think not.
Dina did say that she'll search for Grisha before she got turned. I guess she, deep in her subconscious, searched for the nearest related people because Grisha wasn't there.
Welp, she said she was coming to find grisha, and she technically did
Dina's Titan is abnormal, which means, they have 1 single objective. Dina wanted to find Eren's mother and everyone related to her so when she turned into an abnormal, that was her objective, killing Eren's mom and everyone related to her.

I’m sorry if you don’t want to talk about it but what happened when you were 11?
This is exactly why I like his character so much. He’s such a well written character that it gets fairly annoying to see people write him off as a bad character. He’s a great character, and I don’t say that lightly or to just any character. I mean it when I say that he’s one of the most well written characters I’ve seen.
