Hey man I really like and appreciate your videos. I fly fished when I was a teenager with my father who was a guide. As I was a know it all teenager I didn’t really pick up what he was putting down and now he is gone and I’m older and getting back into it and these videos help. It’s also great you are in the same areas I love in for a lot of the videos. Thanks man
Thank you Alan - I do appreciate your kind words, thank you! My father has also taught me a ton and I still grow in fly fishing, even today and after 40 years of casting a fly rod. Glad my videos have helped too. Cheers!
I Can tell you Why the best stripping basket tech is from Denmark, we have been flyfishing for seatrout in saltwater on the coast since the 1970`s. The go to setup these days is a fast action 9’ #6. Either with a shootinghead or Lines like the outbound short, Scientific Anglers even made a Line for just 5hat kind Of Fishing, the Volantis, made as a head and a WF.
Glad I found your channel! I work in the Distribution Center for Far Bank Enterprises which the Sage Brand sits underneath along with Rio Products and Redington. I'm happy to be able to share with anybody also interested in the Sage Foundation, I've received just the other day, hundreds more of the foundation rod. I hope they should be making their way out within the coming weeks. I saw a lot of 5 and 6 weight rods.
My son loved this depth finder. He's used it for ice fishing and on his 14ft boat. Works well and is fairly easy to use. Saw fish on the depth finder, caught fish in that spot. Can't ask for more, except maybe an automatic fish cleaning option :)
Awesome video, have a 10' 7 weight Moonshine Drifter, paired with the Lamson reel for bulltrout/bass with a Integrated Skagit Line & love it,after this video might pair it with the Rio Line & give saltwater a shot, tight lines & bent rods 🤙
The Landon reel he showed you , like someone else in the comments said , very smooth reel , love the feel. But I've recently tried cheeky fly line and I love it ! Cool video Dan ! 👍😁
Thank you for some fantastic tips! I'm going to be taking a trip here soon! And I will be fishing the ocean from the beach! So I needed this lol thanks Dan You're the bomb!
Great video. I have been thinking of giving this type of fishing a try. How about doing a video of targeting sea run cutts in the rivers next? I would love to hear your take of what gear and time of year is best to get them this way.
Looks like you were at the purdy bridge. Never caught anything there on flies but spinners like Martin panthers do amazing. A even better spot is this certain place from driftwood dove down to olalla on Colvos passage. It’s insane how many salmon and cuttys there are
In october I am going to buy myself (birthday present) a 9wt 9ft salt water combo for beach fly fishing. I was thinking 8 wt for months but recently found out that 9 will handle the wind better for my area (long open coastlines). Looks like I might need that stripping basket too. Thanks for the video
I don't see a problem with using a cold water designed fly lines for tropical setting, it's generally the other way around (tropical used in cold water applications) that becomes a problem.
I think it's more about preference. The SRC's are usually pretty close to the shoreline, so a lighter single hand setup works well (at least it has for me). Thanks for watching - cheers!
@@FlyFishDanYes, because in English when you don’t know the gender you use the masculine form hence it would always be fisherman as a general use like it’s always been. Stop using modern genderless terminology cause it’s linguistically and biologically wrong.
well I thought you'd be fishing not shopping . let me save some people the trouble there is no usefull information in this video unless you haven't purchased a fly rod already
Thanks for the visit, that is why this video is titled ‘how to get started...’ Fishing comes later once you’ve been outfitted. With that being said - there’s a some very useful info for someone looking to get started - I’m sorry you feel otherwise. Cheers!

Shop owners like Anil are why the sport is so great and fun. Honest, extremely smart and is glad to share the ins and outs 👍🐠🐠
Couldn't agree more!

Thanks Jensen for the great comments and perspective - cheers!
Love the lampson reels, I’ve caught everything from blue gills to king salmon on them. Smooth as butter! Another great informative show!
Thank you Rick - smooth as butter - love that!
They are rock-solid for sure!

That is good news! I will let the owner of the Puget Sound Fly Co. know that as well. I appreciate you taking the time to watch. Cheers!

Here in RI we need a stripping basket for all our saltwater fishing especially if you are using an intermediate or full sink line.
I love the new light weight version - I have the old school Orvis box...may never use that one again!
Ive owned a lot of echos. I love them. I own the shadow x, carbon xl, trout spey, 84-b and river glass. They havent let me down yet

Thank you! The RIO line really makes a big difference - shoots like out like a rocket. Thanks for watching!
Port orchard is a really good place for Sea run Cutthroat.
Thank you! I will have to check that out!

Miyawaki poppers are super fun!

It's a challenging but fun fishery for sure - I will definitely put that on the list for a future video, thank you for the inspiration! Cheers!

It's a great spot indeed :)) Tons of current!
Man I’m so jealous of the new rig!
Thanks Paul - love it so far!
Where I live we all use a line basket. This one too. But: get it out on your left side, and get it low :-)
I would caution on Rio lines in the salt,, SA mpx or airflo for floating lines
I will take a closer look for sure - thanks for the tip!

Hello Dan. Excellent tutorial for beginners
Glad you think so - thank you!
No cutthroat, but been killing it down here in socal with some cheap sandcrab ties off Amazon...
Nice!
Woooooow, hey Dan,so here's where you might as well leave the whole paycheck as they say it?😁😁😁😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️🤠🤠🤠 Just all in one place, perfect.🤗🤗🤗
Thanks Olan - I appreciate that!
@@FlyFishDan I'm very sorry Dan,but I'm Martin?👀👀👀Or mistranslated?🤔🤔🤔🙄🙄🙄
I'm really hoping to fish for some Sea Run Cutts real soon.
Dan, was looking at the Remix reel as well. Did you got -5+ or -7+ for your 6wt?
It's a great reel for sure, I got the 5+ and it hold plenty of backing. Cheers!
Nice to see you got the Lamson reel i jjust got.Would a floating sink tip work?
I would use either floating or intermediate line - both would work well
Oh ok cool
It has interesting colors two tone blue green, lol
Love lamson reels! I have a radius and 2 remix reels.
Me too - solid reels for sure. I have (4) myself!
Fisherperson* welcome to 2022 lol
Lol - just trying to be inclusive :))
Great video! just messing with ya!
Great video. Thanks 👍🏻🎣
Thanks!
Can the cold water Rio Outbound Short line be used in tropical water? The tropical water outbound short is very expensive for me.
I don't see a problem with using a cold water designed fly lines for tropical setting, it's generally the other way around (tropical used in cold water applications) that becomes a problem.
@@FlyFishDan And what would be the problem? I'm starting out in fly fishing and I still have several questions.
Warm water fly lines will stiffen in the cold and nearly become unusable.
Excellent video !
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice background music at 5:30
Thanks!
Why single-hand? Why not an equivalent weight switch rod?
I think it's more about preference. The SRC's are usually pretty close to the shoreline, so a lighter single hand setup works well (at least it has for me). Thanks for watching - cheers!
Fisherperson just sounds so off🤣
:))
Did you say fisherperson 😂 that’s so Oregon.
Bonjour de Louisiane mes amis partout !
Fisher person?
Just trying to be inclusive :))
Fisher person 😂 just say angler if you need to be PC bro
That's way better...Lol
I would’ve watched this whole video but you said fisher person and I don’t I don’t identify with delusion but a great vid
Does that really matter? Fisherman, fisherwoman, fisherperson...all the same type of human. Be well, be kind and FISH-ON!!

"fisher-person" yuck bro.

Hmm… a misogynist tone-policing a fly fishing video. Mommy issues?
