his online guitar school is by far the best. often new stuff, also more basic solos, not only "super fast out of this world" solos, detailed explanation, it is really perfect.
I was at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society show in Nashville in 2004 that Joscho refers to here. Frankly, I was slipping into a coma from the sheer shock of hearing this otherworldly young genius before his first song was even over. Joscho and his trio (I believe it was his dad on rhythm guitar and another player on upright bass) received THREE encores complete with standing ovations every time. Not even Tommy Emmanuel achieved that kind of feat. Just astonishing music... w o w . . .
Joscho is actually a very approachable humble and funny person. The best thing is he shares his knowledge with everyone who is interested. There are not much players in this world who got the whole package Josch can provide. (Whole Package = Artistry/Performance/Fit in Bussiness/Teaching)
Jay Zinho Check out Paulus Schafer as well.......he produces beautiful creative melodic lines. There's a youtube clip entitled "suberp performance". It's a slow tune but he delivers some long haunting melodic lines that are out of this world.
I found this guy on UA-cam some months ago. I grew up 20 km next to him and I was just completely stunned by his style and his whole music. This video just makes me falling in love completely. I need to. check out the tour dates, I can't continue living without knowing that I will see him playing in live!! Thanks to Chet Atkins Festival for sharing this!
What a treat to listen in on this musical conversation with Joscho. He has an impressive set of "chops". For those of you Gypsy-swing fans, in case you don't know of him, check out Sebastien Giniaux from France. Like Joscho, an amazing technique and an inventive player who enjoys his music-making. Enjoy.
luke here on dads account - joscho aged 4, sitting and listening made my cry a bit Very familiar musical introduction only mine was not high info music immersion (makes a big difference) mum used to sing and talk with me about life (simple immersion) my biggest lesson was watching dad noodling on guitar I thought "i can see and hear what to do on that thing" Billy Strings said "I learnt everything on this side of dads guitar"
Joscho is a wonderful soul, very giving, let alone a monster player! Some tricks here I wish were explained. Gotta find a way to slow down a UA-cam video! Fabulous video, thanks.
10:18 .. maybe he did a lot of mistakes ... but the mistakes can become your personal style. I think this is a thing I like about older times. Even listening to famous rock guitarists from back in the day ... they were always listening to records, replaying guitar parts, maybe slowing them down ... but getting everything by ear! That in itself is a huge kind of school that almost no school today does! The getting everything by ear school seems to have been replaced by getting everything by music notation! That's got it's place in classical and pre-written music but for improv and culture/folk-based "feel" music, "by ear" is the best! for certain approaches. And it can lead to more innovation in certain situations in my opinion - when people learn to play "their way" they can come up with weird things nobody thought of.
That;s something many people today who criticize Eric Clapton, for example, dont understand. He and his contemporaries played records over and over, moving the needle back so as to repeat a passage, and trying to fnd notes and chords on their guitars that duplicated the sound. He didnt have any you-tube videos and there were very few relevant gutar instruction manuals.
Wow what a treasure of a video I've found! Thanks for that! ♥ I was surprised seeing that Adrian is playing La Pompe from his arm, not his wrist, like Joscho said :D Sounds great though!
+yunes brejan My best advice would be to learn as much as you can from UA-cam. Joshco also does a lot of lessons for a company called Gypsy Jazz Lessons. I hope this helps!
Take a jazz classic and learn the arpeggios of each chord, extending them up to 13ths. First play the arpeggio on each chord in sequence, then start throwing in notes that fill in between or lead to these notes. The start is very hard, but on each new piece, familiar passages will appear. Tabledit has some transcriptions also.
Rob Nolans The Gypsy Jazz Secrets channel is a great source. But for starters try simply learning song via simple triads instead of fancy jazz chords and then start experimenting on them Cheers :)
Very sweet guy, and also an incredibly sweet player. Truly enjoyable. Too bad the microphone kept breaking up any time Joscho would attack the strings a bit more aggressively.
mulgurul OK, I just heard back from Adrian Holovarty (the wonderful guitarist who is accompanying Joscho). Here is what he said regarding the mic "The microphone I used was an Audio Technica Pro 70. I'm not 100% sure what Joscho used, but it very well might have been the same thing. It's one of the standard ways of amplifying in the gypsy jazz world. Cheers!"

heavy metal shredders arent as harmonically versed, at least from what I heard so far. People are drawn to gypsy jazz because its the most technically, rhythmically and harmonically complex and challenging music.
Man he is taking Django Reinhardt up another level but at the same time one has to understand that Django is the base from which all these players stem from!
Because of an early accident, Django had to use only 2 fingers and his thumb with his left hand! It's nuts to watch. It's also fun to watch when Joscho shows both ways to play the same lick - 2 fingers vs all of them. Always a good time and informative. Maybe I've been lucky so far, but I've never seen a boring Joscho video.
One thing I love to see is someone getting so much pleasure out of playing their instrument. Joscho is a real deal.
My old geometry teacher sent me this video a week after I graduated, he’s seriously an incredible teacher. Mad respect.
Yes, he's amazing and a great guy! - Steve

To me Joscho is the most impressive swing guitar player of the new generation
Jay Zinho bireli lagrene isn't dead yet..

Yesss

oldwhtman z
I’m a guitarist and his playing is Inspiring for me. I don’t have a bigger compliment.
I'm a big Joscho fan, but I didn't realize what a wonderful teacher he is.
Yes, he has a real gift for teaching. - Steve

I didnt know him, and Yeah he is very good ! Thanks a lot for the information
Joschko is more easy to appreciate in videos like these where he's not competing with other virtuosos. It's all pleasure and fun with music here.
Not only Talented and unique but a Wise man too. And I know exactly what he means.
il est incroyable , il a une netteté de jeu , parfaite , quel talent
Son talent exceptionnel et le travail acharné, font de lui l'artiste incontestable et donc reconnu qui plaît tant aujourd'hui encore 👏🎶💓🎶

Mindblowing is the best word to describe it

Only heard of @Joschostephan today. Wow, what an inspiration. Thanks for the music :D
Why haven't I found this channel before this is great
Julian S. Wright Because it is a new channel, i think the first video refer to 1 month...it's a good channel, i'm suscribed.
The way he laughs at his own joke at 55 min and 20 seconds in is wholesome af
l'accompagnement est aussi super cool
Nice pickin' guys! Beautiful sounds.

I've been, completely by chance, to this guy's performance in Croatia (I think in 2014?). Just blew my mind!
ako je to dobro za Hrvatsku pozovite ga ! Ja bi prije pozvao originalnog Gypsy-Jazz gitaristu !!!!! Biti samo dobar Izvodjac, nije dosta!!!
amazing. the best.
what is the best way to learn gypsy jazz? I live in Syria and there isn't any gypsy jazz guitarists here and I really like this style. any advice.
+yunes brejan My best advice would be to learn as much as you can from UA-cam. Joshco also does a lot of lessons for a company called Gypsy Jazz Lessons. I hope this helps!

Very sweet guy, and also an incredibly sweet player. Truly enjoyable. Too bad the microphone kept breaking up any time Joscho would attack the strings a bit more aggressively.
Yeah, I think the level of his guitar is a little hot. The rhythm guy is too soft. But oh, it makes me laugh it's so good!
Whats that radio station called? like from Nashville? cool.
I would really like to know the brand of the pickups. They sound fantastic natural and seems so simple to attach. Can someone enlighten me?
mulgurul OK, I just heard back from Adrian Holovarty (the wonderful guitarist who is accompanying Joscho). Here is what he said regarding the mic "The microphone I used was an Audio Technica Pro 70. Same guy who wrote the python software? (Holovarty)?
+Texas P Renegade Yep! He's a great gypsy jazz player. Also he founded soundslice which has some great annotated gypsy jazz videos
+Texas P Renegade Guido Van Rossum created Python.
Amazing!
anybody know the chords for the rhythm guitar in the first song?

Will I ever master this ???????????????????????????????????????? trying to get in this grove many hours to go I lov Jazz my dad was good and if I can get close he will hear it some how on the other side
Could easily be a heavy metal shredder :-)

right!!!
metal is shit
That's for the sheep. Why would he want to dumbdown to that fashion genre?
Joscho Stephan actually started with heavy metal on the electric guitar.
there is a lot of nice g body mandolins in the background
00:42:00 - Technique
what pickups did they use for sound also what amps ?
Does anybody knows why joshco website isn't functioning?
This picking hand is possessed wtf
whre we can buy these kind of gypsy jazz style guitars?
What is the buzzing and rattling????
There was a little distortion on the first song in the audio. But that got cleared up quickly.
Ok ... what is that sound-hole clip-on mic/pickup ! Please tell me
Appears to be an A-T Pro 70.
What brand of gypsy guitar is Joscho playing in this video? And what is the pickup?
Tough to tell. Travelling in just for that gig he would have picked up one in the area. The P/U appears to be an A-T Pro 70.
