This is mind blowing. What Phil can do in an instant, even playing licks from sooo many years ago, instantly. He’s just a music machine. I first heard his playing when listening to my old Matthew Ward “Toward Eternity” cassette tape. Soli Deo Gloria!

I would have loved to be in the same room as him and Chet Atkins!!! One can only imagine how much fun that would be to hear the two of them together. I attended a concert featuring Russ Taft and Phil. Afterwards I searched Phil out for and his autograph only to find him back of the amphitheater giving free lessons to little children. That was so much fun to watch.
There is no better looper than Phil. And I dare say there are very few pure improvisational guitarists on par with Phil . As a finger stylist, there are many in Phil’s class and I dare say, superior to him. But as an all-around guitarist who excels at any genre he explores, Phil is simply an amazing talent!
Just caught this. Totally agree. That interviewer was sitting with a super expensive guitar in his hands that whole time and was terrified to play anything. Catch his live show sometime if you haven't. It's stellar. I'm not a Christian music type of person and I've seen him 5 times.
@@FrankSpeer66 Doyle Dykes is extremely talented, but the scope of his apeal is extremely limited. Solo acousitc guitar and in a nitche style. Phil has played and mastered every style known to man, and he also sings. They are not in the same ballpark or catergory in terms of "audience." Both down to earth and humble beyond compare though.
At last! Someone who does 2 part looping. Hurrah! There are gazillions of looper guys out there who are great but it gets sooooooooo boring with just 1 part. Finally! I’d love to see somebody do 3 on the RC300??
There was a question during the video about Phil's JamMan controller. It's a Rolls MP1288 MIDIWizard MIDI footpedal, programmed to send specific messages to the JamMan's MIDI input. Details about the programming are available here: www.museweb.com/keaggy/MIDIWizard-JamMan.txt A somewhat special capability of the MidiWizard is that you can program a single tap to send out *multiple* MIDI messages. Only a few MIDI pedals can do this; it's needed to get some of the capabilities Phil relies on with the JamMan. Unfortunately, Rolls discontinued the MIDIWizard (their MIDI Buddy can't do it). But if you can find another multi-message MIDI pedal, you should be able to duplicate the programming. Other more modern loopers don't require the same kind of MIDI programming, but nothing fully duplicates all of the JamMan's functions (that I know of).
At 12:32, Phil starts talking about a new pedal. He says, "it does more things than I know how to do with it." Phil is a master of pedal use, hence, my head exploding just thinking about using it.
First time I've ever seen double dots at the 7th fret position! Is this something exclusive to this guitar? Was it a custom request by Keaggy? And for what purpose?
Timing?? Buy a looper with built in metronome and drum tracks,lol.. They really do pull your timing into gear![loopers]. After decades of bands etc, i played alone for a long time, i now prefer to play alone with a looper. No arguments about what to play and how to arrange etc:)

His off the cuff creativity is just unbelieveable.
Yep, my favorite “noodler...”
I've followed Phil for years and his ability still astounds me! Such a humble man. Thanks for the upload!

He is in a class all his own. Simply the best at what he does!

Dare I say that you are very daring... (& Phil is awesome!) 😆
Phil is absolutely astonishing, check out Doyle Dykes if you get a chance!
can someone please tell me how Phil isn't in the top 10 guitarist conversation? absolutely amazing!

The answer is ver y simple : Just because he is a Christian man. He deserves be one of the top ten guitarrists un the World
The same reason no one knows who Doyle Dykes is, they are both astonishing players that almost nobody knows, such a shame!

I am always in awe when I listen and watch Phil Keaggy play!! He has an awesome God given talent and has surrendered his talent to God many years ago.
Douglas Beesley Nothing to do with God idiot
While some might agree, including myself, Phil would surely say so and has many times before.
I bet your momma is real proud of you.

WOW amazing Talent!!!!
Imagine a pedal capable of doing more than Phil Keaggy knows what to do with it! My head would explode!
Huh?

What a boss!
Thank you so very much. Phil is just ridiculous.
Bruce Johnson Ridiculous feet, anyway. ;)

Cool!!!!!

Am I assuming to much, but I think Steve Morse has had to appreciate and even incorporated some of Keaggy. just saying
WHAT is that device he pulls out around 6.30??!!!!!
An E-Bow.
Wow

And Phil mentions the fact that there are loopers with a metronome built in. He mentioned a Roland that will do that.

Phill repeats to many of the same scales and patterns year after year
and yet he's still better than you'll ever be... if you don't enjoy then do yourself a favour and don't bother watching
Name one guitarist who doesn't?
Don’t hate, appreciate!
