      He does for those of us who have been following for 25 years now. I was in 6th grade when i got that first album. Hes always been one of my favorites. Him, along with brad wilk and jose pasillas are like s trifecta of 2000s music

    I love how, even as a drummer with 2 bass drums, John still makes sure to keep his hi hats relatively close. Some other metal drummers be keeping their hats in another time zone!

      john has never been one of the double kick guys. he really didnt even use a lot of double bass in any songs until hypnotize/mesmerize. i always respected his ability to make metal music with a single kick.

    I have a Sako snare I bought from him back in 2016. He used an iron shell with the pickup inside. Hands down my favorite snare.

    Those small drums you were referring to are John Dolmayan's signature 6" and 8" mini timbales made by LP Latin Percussion. I got a set, and they're pretty cool. I taught myself how to drum playing along to SOAD self titled album and Toxicity. John was a big inspiration for me when I first started playing.🥁🤓

      Hell yeah me too, especially toxicity for me first...i was, shall we say "mesmerized" & then found & started playin to their self titled debut album. That was 20 years ago, when i very first picked up sticks in addition to trumpet, trombone & baritone/euphonium; 4 years later tho I no longer really played much with the (high and/or low) brass instruments, but I'll be damned if im still not behind the kit, and even more passionate & in love with the drums now more than ever! Thanks SOAD & John, along with Abe & the Deftones... me & my wife's favorite band(s)!! LOVE you ALL, regret her & I not being there to bear witness to y'all doin it up like that at the Golden Gate :( guess that means you guys'll just HAVE to make that mf shit happen AGAIN, just try to come to the East Coast, please & thanks... cheers bruh, thanks again for this sweet vid upload, you made my year with this

    Still find it crazy to watch this man play his kit with a left-hand lead on the fills!
    I do have to say. A couple of those cymbals look to be in an extremely awkward place to hit. Especially that bell chime and splash near the hats/first rack tom.

      Yeah I noticed that too & also very much thought the same thing, especially regarding the positioning of his splash... with John, he makes it look so easy & natural, but I know for me it'd be Hella awkward af tryin to incorporate it into my playing

      @@hippiesaboteur2556 that would be a question for his drum tech lol. Normally each band travels with their own backline crew (guitar techs, drum tech, sound engineers, etc.)

      That's the one thing that stuck out to me.. that was odd? Considering it was still a Paiste product, he wasn't breaking any endorsement deal... Would love a follow-up on that.

      Bc if you slow the video down, there’s a frame where they’re not blurred and it says high hat bottom as a top. Maybe it’s a secret to a hi hat sound idk

      @@LouSassles idk that still doesn't break any endorsement deal that I'm aware of.. people mix top and bottom hats all the time (heavy top, sound edge bottom) without anything being blurred out. Would be interesting to hear an explanation.

      @@petarpavasovic6333 just tune them linear from high to low, and depending on the venue it can change. Each drummer has preferences too so that changes things.

      @@PLBIV they were on upside down when the kit was assembled, switched after the video was made before the show. Didn’t want people hassling me but I’ve seen more feedback on the blur than the fact that it’s the bottom hats on the top 😂

      I remember seeing the System 2002 big day out videos as a kid and noticing how tight his hats were. So obviously when I began drumming a few years later I made sure to have my hats super tight too. Luckily I learned the benefits of loosening them up a few years later

      Nah, I don’t think John would ever use any Turkish made cymbal lol. The Turks committed genocide against his not so distant ancestors, that’s why he uses Paiste. I could see him using Meinl too, but never Zildjian, Sabían, or Istanbul cymbals.

    Curious… why do you bury the mallet when striking the bass drum? Burying it does not give the drum a chance to resonate to truly be played.

      More than likely the soad drummer buries his beater so the tec sound checks playing the same way the drummer will play. (Personally I burry but both ways have their pros and cons).

      @@JohnnyQ714 there are many ways to play, if burying the beater is wrong than I’m guilty of playing wrong lol. I’ve worked for drummers that bury the beater and ones that don’t, I know it might affect the resonance but a lot of the drummers I work for have sound engineers that use gates to choke the resonance anyway. It helps to control the sound out front. For a live recording in a controlled setting like a studio, I can see that playing a factor possibly. But a live rock and roll setting at a venue or festival… doubt it matters as much as you’d think.

      I would say over the years every drummer developes more and adds to their set up, I will say for this specific drummer and set up, he uses the entire kit. Maybe not for every song but he does use all of it.

      @@ericgardner5548 one is a remote set, stays semi open and can be used for accents, and also used when doing double bass patterns and other beats. Lots of drummers have that including myself, Sal from Staind and Mike from Disturbed.
