This song makes me cry... nostalgia, loss, being old now, and lotsa crap. I never knew how fast life passed when I bought this cassette. XO TY for uploading...
Again perfectly said as I’m older and listening to this now. Brings us to a simpler time in our youth where even now the lyrics are even more powerful...
@@screamtoasigh9984 Britpop never existed, it was a figment of our imagination apparently 'cos virtually all Britpop bands today are saying "oh, we were never Britpop".
I saw this live at Glastonbury in ‘93. Sun setting behind the pyramid stage, hot air balloons rising into the blue sky. Bandmates and friends with me. Having a moment. One of the most profound moments in my life. Just magical and, to this day, the best gig experience I’ve ever had.
Today would have been my brother's 55th birthday. He's in the great beyond with our father and cousin--who lived in Worthing. This song gives me peace.
I don't. It was their best period but Suede went on to make some interesting, diverse albums without him. A listen to the extended cut of Wild Ones and the initial ideas for Asphalt World would tell you they risked venturing down the path of the Bernard Butler Guitar Experience. This always reminds me of the Depeche Mode/Alan Wilder argument. They made some wonderful music together, but the partnership reached a limit and the band would continue on to fresher pastures.
They would have been a totally different band if he had. I think Richard and Neil's contributions have been immense and I love the band they have become now. 'The Blue Hour' is an outstanding album.
All stand up for a great artist, a great superstar, a great lyrics writer, a guy with a phenomenal voice…❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love Suede What a performance! 💫💫💫❤️
An emotional song, Brett wrote it about his mother who passed away. They are from Haywards Heath in Sussex, there is a line in the song about going "down to Worthing..." which is on the Sussex coast, some miles south of Haywards Heath.
IVE JUST LOST A SELF ADOPTED BABY BROTHER FROM MY LIFE AND HAVING A HARD TIME COMING TO TERMS WITH IT BUT THE LYRICS TO THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG UPLIFT ME INTO THINKING ILL SEE HIM AGAIN SOMEDAY IN OUR NEXT LIFE. RIP KEV, MISSING YOU LOADS BRUV.
Even after all these years I can not decide which is my second favourite Suede song. It is between this, 2 of Us, Still life, and Big Time. Asphalt World is my number 1 Suede song none of their other songs can beat it for just punching through you chest grabbing your heart in both hands and then just grinding it to dust.
This is absolutely brilliant. This is so sad and feels strange in so many ways. Some people here are obviously missing their teenage years and they remember this time of gold. I wasn’t even a teenager, I was 7 and I was in a country where things went to shit and going to complete shit now. Seeing them, meeting Brett, again, just last month on so many nights made me happy and in tears because 90s were the best time of my life and yet I missed so much from the 90s and thank goodness I discovered Suede all those years ago. But I feel like crying because I’m not old enough now to remember them when they just started… oh life…
so much appreciation for this band...a true musical gem they ve inspired me in so many different ways ..different projects...never stop writing music please
Incredibly moving performance by an immensely talented songwriter and performer who changed the face of British music for the better, huge respect 🙌👍❤️

Here after listening to Bernard commenting on the most recent "Later..." about his angst playing this, worsening when he found himself looking straight at Brian Ferry... :D
Just came to find this clip after hearing Bernard reference it on Jools22. Think I watched the original broadcast as well. But where was Brian Ferry on the end of the piano?
Fun fact: Brett was indeed true to his word and he did send the postcard.
Brett Anderson was extraordinarily beautiful. Like a living statue.
I guess he still is, but by then he had this eerie beauty...
With his angel voice 😍😍😍
Yes, indeed.
He still is

This song is one of the best ever written imo
Early '93 to Late '94 was the band's Imperial Period. Everything they touched turned to gold.
93-97 was the best of Britpop. Suede included.
@@screamtoasigh9984 Britpop never existed, it was a figment of our imagination apparently 'cos virtually all Britpop bands today are saying "oh, we were never Britpop".
Everything they touch still turns to gold.
Personally I disagree. I thought Coming Up was a much smarter effort.
When Bernard Butler left, the chemistry that made them so brilliant unfortunately went too.

The only advantage we have over the young is the compression of melancholy and the wisdom it purchases.
Wow! That’s awesome. I can only imagine
@@camdencobain1460if you wrote that I doff my hat 😂
Anyway, that's nothing. I listened to this in a car with Charlie Sheen sat on my lap
Please play this at my funeral, which I hope is many many years away
said same to my mate yonks ago about this very song!
I hope it still is
Gorgeous performance! Brett's facial expressions along with his voice, and Bernard's piano playing. Just beautiful.
Leaves a lump in your throat doesn't it 🥲

Brett. What a voice!!!!!
An emotional song, Brett wrote it about his mother who passed away. They are from Haywards Heath in Sussex, there is a line in the song about going "down to Worthing..." which is on the Sussex coast, some miles south of Haywards Heath.
And in 2022 he wrote another about his mother called she still leads me on.
This is such a beautiful song
Such a beautiful, moving performance. Stunning. Also, I like Bernard's hair.
Stunning vocals for a live performance
I still play and sing this today. What a tune.
Wow! They don't make them like they used to. Such a brilliant singer!

Unforgettable, so sad and so beautiful. Thank you very much
One of the best bands of the 90s easily. Hugely talented and nice guys too. Dog Man Star is an incredible album.
