I herniated two disks in my neck doing HSPUs in a comp. Was trying to go as fast as possible and came down too hard.
Now will only do strict HSPUs at a very slow controlled pace. Doing them for speed is a recipe for disaster. Kipping puts undo stress on your neck as well.

Ellipticals are VERY good for overweight people or those who really need extremely low impact. I lost 135# starting on an elliptical, then the lighter I got, the more running I mixed in, but I'd say 305-260# was all elliptical. I was fully capable of "running" at 305, but the point is being able to recover enough to do it the next day, and the amount of stress and impact at higher weights is exponentially more.

Yeah, if you can jump on an elliptical and get into zone 2 for 30-45 minutes, I don’t see anything wrong with that, especially if you enjoy it and can sustainably do it most days. No shame in the elliptical

That's so funny I had the exact same Stair Stepper experience in 2005 well before starting CrossFit. Hopped on one at the YMCA and after about 10 minutes there was so much sweat pouring from my body that I thought the machine might short circuit. Super underrated cardio and I bet it had some transferability for Mat on the hill run at the games.

I used to have the most incredible workouts on a Life-Step/Stairmaster. (This coming from a guy who actually runs various outdoor stairs in my neck of the woods.) They do not suffer fitness fools lightly.

I don’t think people understand how Matt Fraser doesn’t do the stair master and still managed to win 5 CrossFit games. That’s why Josh Bridges was so astonished. So many people have put years on a stair master and wouldn’t even come close to Matt Fraser’s level of fitness.

@@Vity.thomas27 I agree that handstand walks are beneficial and help out with everything that you listed. But, it's not a movement that you'll ever encounter outside of the gym . Unlike, say a Clean & Jerk, where the fundamentals of the movement translate to activities you do in your everyday life.
