Just want to email me? I love hearing from you! thewhiskeydic@gmail.com
This was the first good bottle of whiskey I ever bought and I still love the stuff!
I have many bottles of different bourbons, but damn this is just good and smooooooth. Always have a bottle.
Makers mark has a nice warm chest feel. It warms your soul.
+wildernessman I'll need it today! We had an ice storm here in Massachusetts
The Whiskey Dic lol yes take a drink before going out side it will help keep you warm.
im 12 done 5 shots of makers mark
Bought my first Maker's today and I thought I'd revisit this video as I drank it...absolutely spot on review. It's just cozy like a nice warm hug and not too sweet (sorry, I can't pick notes and all that jazz, I'm new at this and it's just a damn good whiskey). I'd say this is a good transition whiskey from scotch to bourbon actually. Could be just me but that's what I get from it? Idk. May depend on what scotch you actually drink.
I was lucky to get mine ten bucks off so good value as well. The time around Father's Day is great to pick up cologne and booze I've discovered. Even got a free pair of Maker's Mark socks with my purchase lol.
Love Makers. Just really good stuff. Like the wheaters for the sweet taste. Thanks for the review. It was informative and enjoyable. Made me go out and buy another bottle, and will definitely enjoy it again.
That's great to hear! I always enjoyed it. Its great in cocktails and great neat
Just opened my second bottle of Maker's Mark. The first one I bought (about a year ago) was at the start of my Whiskey journey as my second ever Bourbon (and also just second whiskey). I wasn't used to drinking whiskey on its own so I'd used it for cocktails but now going back to it and being able to appreciate whiskey neat.. Wow, it really is some stuff, very smooth and ''welcoming'' if I could say. For a 45% ABV whisky, drinks very easily. I would recommend it to anyone who's never tasted bourbon before, no wonder it made your definitive beginner Bourbon buying guide. As you would say, it's definitely a ''Stock it'' !
First time I drank it was at a party. I was around 19. Some older guy poured me a shot. We were surprised how good it was. The crazy part is that I was new to whiskey yet I still felt the significance even though I had no idea . I felt like child discovering new candy
I keep coming back to this I've had several bottles of this maybe 3 or 4 because it's a good price. I was underwhelmed with my first couple of bottles however this time with more experience I now know its a really good bourbon and I really enjoy it. Its sweet and not harsh or strong at all it's an excellent daily sipper.
Tried Maker's Mark for the first time on the East Coast. the bartender used it for my old-fashioned cocktail. Fell instantly in love with it.
I like Jack D and Gentleman J, but since going on the tour at Marker's Mark recently, I've discovered a Kentucky bourbon I actually really like. Good review. Thx.
I usually have this in my bar, but I much prefer Makers 46 and it is one of my go to Bourbon's along with FR Single Barrel and EC 12. The MM Cask strength is truly fantastic.
I always wondered why MM does not put out a 10 to 12 year Bourbon. They must have some older barrels stashed somewhere.
+peter white My only thought is they are actually smaller than I would have thought. It's not a surprise to see their bottles around, and that blew my mind when I found out how many barrels they make a year.
Curious about your inclusion of EC 12 w M46 and FR SiB. Still the case now that EC is nas?
. Glass to hear your review. As a wine drinking lady , I will get one bottle this week since it is 10 bucks off in Alberta., for sipping during the winter. Thanks.
I don't think you regret it. Depending on if you like white wine or red wine I may have some recommendations for you on other whiskey to try.
Also, if you're interested, a friend of mine is a sommelier ua-cam.com/users/erikwait check out his channel if you want more!
Great video on a fantastic bourbon. I always have a bottle of this in my collection.
I was drinking this in '05 in high school thanks to the Bouncing Souls...cheers to a great drink!
Great review, even after trying much more expensive brands, makers remains my favorite! Can’t beat the smoothness and vanilla sweetness
I really like the laid back nature of your reviews. I've haven't had MM for years but did buy a 375 of the 46 about six months ago. It's pretty good not great. BTW, Irish whiskey has an "e".
+Triplecap I appreciate the compliment, I definitely like to think the couple takes I do before the final cut helps to add to me being "Laid Back" hah!
It's funny, when I found that quote I thought the same thing, but I figured that maybe Makers knew something I didn't
Went back to this video because of the great straightforward review (also for the same reason I watched "Bladerunner" 10 times, it's an entertaining video.) This is the video that got me started on Maker's Mark, which is now my favorite drink. Thanks. :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and glad to have you as a viewer
I tried Maker's Mark after watching this video, the first try is I was some what disappointed but the second try better and after that I started to enjoy this drink. Don't why that has happened but now it I find this very enjoyable 😄 thanks for opening my eyes 😊
You've got a fun world ahead of you! Definitely try the Makers 46 if you have a chance
Love Maker's Mark...tried it once at Applebees...lol...been drinking it everysince....
My favorite bourbon, no doubt! About time I get myself another bottle, I've been branching out and trying others but this one just keeps pulling me right back.
Its funny how divisive this whiskey is in the whiskey world... I think its great
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary It's divisive? First time I hear about it. I think the stuff is pure goodness, but I guess one does need a sweet tooth for this one (which I have).
Very informative presentation of Maker’s Mark! Also, helps to have the icons creatively inserted into the screen if not it’ll be too plain.
As always fantastic detailed information much appreciated! Curious do they still use Caps instead of a cork to close their bottles?
Prefer the screw cap as for durability and ease of use.
Absolutely love Makers Mark. Does anybody know what it goes good with? I usually drink everything straight but sometimes with bourbon I like to chase it with sweet tea or a little bit of water but I'm not too sure with this one. Makers mark is one of a kind
Glendronach 12, or even 18. Can wait to taste these during this winter.
mmm I'm actually going to be doing a video about summer whisky for next week. I'll probably do one for winter whiskey as well.
I agree with this review. Makers Mark is a very nice whiskey. We love this bourbon in Europe more than Scotch.
New subscriber here and I just went from Johnnie Walker Red Label to this and WOW what a contrast!
Never really gave whisky much thought until stumbling upon this channel.
Cheers!
You made a great choice! Have you watched my video on JW Red? It's a good one
The Whiskey Dic yeah i saw that you compared it to actual garbage and gasoline, which also influenced my recent purchase lol
I think you have really found a much necessary niche market. Great videos! Keep doing what you do. You are adding great value for the future. I have recently purchased Maker's Mark 46 and this video helped me gain an understanding of Maker's Mark in general as I move forward to trying a different Maker's Mark whisky. Thank you for your work.
+Daricus Duncan Thanks Daricus! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos
Really great review. And I totally understand your lack of words to describe why you like this bourbon so much. Its the I know what I like when like it but don't ask me why. Very nicely balanced bourbon and the wheat keeps things "calm" compared to rye. Another thing is that on the video opening the bottle is full but on review it is pushing way lower in the bottle. I am sure all that practice was necessary.
+Barry Fiedel So much practice!
I remember drinking this back in the day and thinking the barley was overwhelming. However, during 2020, in the first wave of COVID I studied on different types of beer (inspired by Jim Koch, the founder of Samuel Adams and Boston Beer Company) and took a liking on ale, lager, weissbier and hefeweizen: the latter two are made with wheat. Let's say I tried this on leave (in the army now), and frankly, it tastes a lot better than it did 4 years ago. Beer sure can change a man's palate.
great review!
The only bourbon I've got on with so far. Less of that acetone note which I put down to the rye grain which is absent in MM.
One of my favorite bourbon
Definitely my favorite so far!
I always liked Makers Mark. You should do yourself a favor and try Makers Mark 46 or the private select
I have enjoyed your reviews of whiskeys
Thanks!
Hey great info!!! 👍👍
Love it! A surprising bourbon Bill!
I completely agree! I always saw it mixed at bars and such, but drinking it neat is great.
I really enjoyed watching this and taking down my own bottle of Makers Mark and hear what you thought about it! Somehow made me enjoy it more than I first did as I actually discarded it as a whiskey not to my taste because of the "burn". Great video!
That's awesome! Thats why I started this channel. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I really did! Thanks for being awesome! Perhaps a Hibiki review in the future? I was thinking of picking it up as I did enjoy the Nikka, of which you also made a review.
Hibiki is great... but imo kinda boring. It does one thing spectacularly... but that's it
I'm going to have to give this another try. I've tried it several times along with the Makers 46 and they just seemed too "hot" for me. I'll give it another try when my glencairn glasses show up!!
Garrison brothers made in TX is very close to this.
this is my go to for a night cap or right after a day's work. watching your videos I've learned to appreciate whiskey neat however I still prefer it on the rocks. looking forward to what's next but pretty excited about you tasting my personal go to.
+Joshua Schmitz I'm glad to hear that you can appreciate it neat but still drink it how you like. I get a lot of questions about ways to drink and my answer is always "try it neat, then do whatever you want to it!"
on the nose it's sweet with "honey wheat Cheerios"(weird but hey it's what my nose knows lol) also some vanilla and oak underneath that.
+Joshua Schmitz Nailed it
taste also has a sweetness that seems to linger for awhile until a peppery finish finally takes over. a nice blend of oak, caramel and vanilla maybe (still working on my tastings). anyways I'm glad to share my thoughts on it and hope the comments help you win the UA-cam algorithm lol.
+Joshua Schmitz the peppery is a lot of that finish that I was talking about and these comments absolutely help
Sweetish, sourdough bread and big wood notes like vanilla and honey. Consistently excellent quality! It's got a burn, as all bourbons do.
thank you for the recommendation, tried some tonight and love it, keep up the good work and look forward to your live streams.
+Bassist91 Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
Its nice stuff...lovely flavours and good value overall!😁😁😁
do a review of VAT 69 whiskey please thanks
Excellent review on my favorite whisky. (With no E) Thank you. 🇺🇸😎
+TRIKER RED Glad to hear it!
apparently if it comes from a country with no e in its name (japan, canada, scotland) it's a whisky (no e), but if there is an e, (america, ireland) you've got a whiskey
@@socialist-strong That's a good way to remember it.
I did a video on that recently
So I’m way behind on the video but I just picked up a bottle of this today. So far I’m liking it a lot. Sweet with vanilla and caramel but finishes a little hot at first. It subsides after a few sips.
I'm glad you like it!
I love the smell of it when the bottle gets down to the end, just heavenly to me.
When I did the nosing and tasting, I got a very strong caramel and peanut butter. It wasn’t unpleasant but I definitely would have this with either coke or on the rocks.
I've had it with ginger ale and ice as a mixed drink and it was nice.
Oh Man! You have got to review the Cask Strength Makers Mark. A recent convert to Makers Mark, my son in law got a small bottle of the Cask strength at 110.3 proof When I nose it, the first thing I get is sweet vanilla, cinnamon, honey, and toffee. Awesome nose. The taste first hits with that sweetness, which fades to the spice notes, and then a slight astringent finish. Adding a touch of water, brings out a LOT of the spice and toffee in the nose, and enhances the butter toffee in the taste. This is a really good bourbon. Enjoy.
+PCShogun sold! I'll pick up a bottle soon! I love when I can finish off one of my playlists!
+bobwatters If you love makers as much as it seems, you should try it. It's different but similar enough that you may love it
First whiskey I ever tried and a long time staple in my bar. Only recently been displaced by Woodford Reserve as my default pour. Very informative video!
Great informative review, really helped me properly sort some of the flavours I was getting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love Makers for sipping and Manhattans, but I bought some cask strength and it was very harsh to me....it does make a good strong Manhattan, but Like the regular better for balance.
Nice drop🥃
Good reviews
Thanks Berry!
Another great vid! Thanks :)
+ZandaClaws Thanks Zanda! Are you a fan of Makers?
yeah I always have a bottle on the shelf, it's my second choice after the yamazaki 12. Which, for obvious reasons, is not what i drink regularly :D
+ZandaClaws Man, great choices for standards
Great whisky and a video. I've been a fan of Maker's for years. I always taste a bit of coconut... otherwise agree with the review.
always great reviews and enjoyable to watch. sometimes i even watch them over again in the future lol.👍 just managed to get a bottle of Stagg jr. But it doesn't say what batch on the bottle. 130.9 abv
trying to find some videos on it . would you have any idea ?
wellers special reserve, although it is hard to find in Ontario... i think is better than makers mark. although i may try their 46 its 57 dollars so only 14 more than regular maker's mark.
cheers
I've been known to go back and rewatch my own videos on occasion.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to review the Stagg, but there are other reviewes out there. Mash and drum does a lot of Bourbon.
I'm sold. I have not tried this yet, but will pick up some tomorrow for the weekend.
+PCShogun Is love to hear your opinion on it!
I sit here with an ounce of Makers Mark in my glass, sans ice, which I usually enjoy with my bourbon. Nosing this, I pick up a spice, cinnamon, sweet, light honey and oak undertones, not a lot of that though. Tasting I pick up an immediate sweetness to the tip of the tongue. Letting it roll back, I get a strong spice note and cinnamon, with honey undertones, and some oak. This is a different animal that what I am used to. I have Evan Williams Black label as my everyday bourbon. I find it has a heavy smoke and oak flavor and aroma, with spice, cinnamon, a touch of honey and alcohol on the finish. This is almost the opposite. With a sweetness and spice up front, and mellow smoke on the end with cinnamon.I expected more harshness with this being 90 proof, but it is well blended, and not harsh at all. You are spot on about it heating the back of the throat. Its not felt on the tongue, but its there at the back, but not unpleasant. Thanks for the recommendation. I will make this a mainstay on my bar. If you like bourbon at all, you should enjoy this.
I had to give a dram of this to my dad when he accidentally found my whisky stash. He described the taste as reminiscent of sugar wine, or kilju, which is a traditional homemade alcoholic beverage in my country. Making sugar wine has been illegal for years because a state-owned liquor store chain Alko has a monopoly guaranteed by law here. Obviously beer, cider, long drink and wine can be found in grocery stores but hard liquor only in Alko.
what's a few whiskeys you would recommend in the $30-60 price range that are good whiskeys? I usually drink evan Williams, gentlemen Jack, and 4 Rose's. but I want to try something new.
Baker's 7
hey, nice vid!
I wasn't expecting much from a 25€ bottle, but when I tried it, I was afraid I might finish the whole bottle at once. I liked it that much. I wonder if there's anything similar out there?
UPD: recently figured out that I liked my first bottle coz it spent a month in a trunk of my car on a hot summer. The heat brought forward heavily roasted popcorn covered in honey flavor. The fresh bottle is nowhere near as awesome. So now I have 4 more bottles riding in my trunk 8)
You said the distillery has 3 offerings. They also have makers mark cask strength.
Enjoy your videos. Still trying to find out if my tastes are normal or I'm just different. Totally disliked MM at first. Worked through a bottle because ? well, I had it. By the end of the bottle I could tolerate it. Will give it another chance. Bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace because it was $12 and I liked the name. Really enjoyed it. Went to get another bottle and now it's popular and $27 here. M&M costs less and it's supposed to be better? LOL Figures. Really enjoy your videos tho. Excellent! Thank you
I'd say your tastes are totally fine. Lots of people dont think highly of makers mark but I think its solid for the price
Vi from Sweden! Why not a review on Michters Whiskeys. Great channel!
Just never got to it unfortunately. I'd like to someday!
I tried Maker's Mark for the first time just now, excellent commentary on the whisky, spot on 👍.
I'm glad you are enjoying it Mike! If you like it you should definitely go for the Makers 46
Yes, I heard reviews about '46, that it has more flavors than the "original". I'll definitely be adding it to the list :)
Did you mention the fact they use winter wheat? One of the only that does.
My favorite bourbon by far.
+Brady Blackburn Have you tried the 46 or the cask strength?
The Whiskey Dic I just got back from the ABC with my first bottle. I'll let you know how great it is later.
The 46 that is.
I have a 1 liter slam dunked bottle of makers. Not gonna open that one, it just seems like a sin somehow. Also have a blue and orange dipped bottle from when the Broncos won super bowl 50. DEFINITELY not gonna open that one!
+Paul Green That's a cool thing! I'd like to see a picture of it some day!
Thanks, I'll link you a pic of them. Also, do you have any plans to review 1792 bourbon? I've really been enjoying it lately and am curious about your thoughts on it.
Really loving your videos BTW, hope to see your channel grow immensely this year. Cheers!
@@paulgreen9374 nice
@@paulgreen9374 wow. Very cool collectors' items!
This is my go to Bourbon. Thanks for the nice review, it’s always nice to learn a little bit about the backstory behind the brand.
Enjoyed🍸👍
agree MM is good stuff....drink all night and no headache in the morning
+Kristoff Taylovoski The sign of a quality whiskey!
I got a bottle for 20 pound 💷 here in uk it’s not bad 👍👍👍
You seemed way too nervous at the start of this, then got smoother and it was very ejoyable, i learned alot. Thanks
A lot of that has to do with me memorizing huge swaths of content then trying to remember it all as I speak. I've tried doing teleprompter type software and notes and such, but it often looks robotic (similar to the start of this).
Also, listening to my audio, I think I had a cold :) Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Watch some of my newer videos and you'll hear a dramatic change!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary just write it down, we won't think any less of you, I appreciate the info you give us. Great video, I've been a subscriber for a long time. Good job
Thanks Eddie! Thankfully I've gotten a lot better at memorizing and note taking
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I just started drinking Maker's Mark and I went straight to your channel, I knew you were gonna have a video for it
Yea its been a while but its a good one. Really useful for cocktails
ABC liquor store carries this Markers Mark, currently @ $22.99..... In Florida instead of the typical $29.99..... Good time to stock up!
That's a great price!
I've seen some Maker's with Blue and Gold wax but nothing seems different about it from what I can tell.
The wax can vary based on specialty releases. It will be the same makers mark just different color wax
Would this benefit much from opening up with a little water?
+Garrick Brewer Most whiskeys will change if water is added, and this is no different. Determining if it's better or not is really up to you :) personally, I don't add water to bourbon most of the time.
I don't like the way they put a screw cap on it.
They use a cork for Maker's 46. Also the type of cap doesn't affect the whiskey itself.
Snowfire I guess it’s just the aesthetic
ABC Liquors is selling a 'fifth' for $23.99 (US) for a limited time. It normally runs $30 at ABC. Total Wine and More has it for $22.99 on sale. Cheers!
+Sector 001 Sounds great!
+bobwatters That's a great price. Is that for a 750?
Damn wish i were home atm to take a sip of my stored on the shelf, well-secured from "lemme taste dis booze" insatiable alcopals, bottle of Maker's Mark listening to your opinion which i share.
Cheers.
+deminidze hah! Love the description! The good news? You can watch the video again when you're home!
Can you do the makers cask strength?
Id love to. I'll add it to my list!
For Christmas they but green wax over the red
I had put a comment previously on another channel that I can get A 1.75 bottle of this standard Maker's Mark @ $44.99 before tax at one store in my area. This is a steal.
Thats a great deal!
I enjoy your reviews. I'm wondering if you'd do a review of a Whisky called Defiant, by the Blue Ridge Distilling Co. Golden Valley, NC. It's a single malt, 100% Barley malt. I find I like it quite a bit, but am still trying to "understand" its flavors and complexity. It's of course, very different from Bourbon. More Speyside or Highland I think, but I'd value your review.
+Kris Gasteiger I could take a look at it, but it's not always easy to get whiskey from local distillers. I live in MA so anything around here would be good, outside of that... It's a little tougher
I've found it in both eastern and western Maryland and northern Virginia, so it may be available further north... Thanks for considering.
Can you do a video on coffin liquor?
+Dookie Bob I'm going to assume you aren't saying you want me dead, and are instead telling me to drink someone's liquified remains.
Neither of which appeals to me. So no. I will not do a video on Coffin Liquor.
Interesting read though!
have you done a video for Knob Creek small batch 100 proof? great video. I really like Maker's Mark.
My current regular bourbon is the Knob Creek small batch.
+manonfire4jc That's a great Whiskey
+manonfire4jc Not yet. I'm gonna switch away from bourbon on my channel for the next couple of months
The Whiskey Dic very cool. I'm wanting to get some scotch or rum or something new. Just not to sure what I'll like. I do like scotch but the price is pretty steep.
+manonfire4jc Yea, for sure. Try some blends. They tend to be cheaper and there are some decent ones. There are some cheap highland scotches as well
Overall, I prefer, say, Woodford over Maker's.
Maker's is a bit sweet. But, man, there is really no reason not to have a bottle. A great stand-by.
one of my favorite whisky! nice review. although you forgot to mention their cask strength. perhaps you can review this one some day.
Cheers
Walt
+Walter Engle it's funny they don't even talk about it on their website
I buy it by the 1/2 gallon. It's great with Coca-cola
There is also a version called Caske Strength.
+TRIKER RED Yea. I learned about that ass day after fklming
The Whiskey Dic. LOL! I think your fingers were drunk! 🇺🇸😎
+TRIKER RED Glad you liked it
Whisky Dic. I would like to answer your inquiry but it's a two pronged question. I will give you a multi faceted answer and explain my reasons but not on a public forum as it will be in depth. However if there is an alternative venue I would be more than happy to accommodate you. Cheers!
+Lionel Burns thewhiskeydic@gmail.com
is woodford worth the buy over makers ive never had neither of them i like a sweet bourbon makers at total wine by me is about 21$ and woodford 27$ i believe or if theres one sweeter under 30$ please lmk
Sweet. Go with makers. But I think you should try both
The Whiskey Dic preciate it any others under 30-35$ that u think a little sweeter ?
If you can find any old weller go for it. Other than that go with wheated bourbins like Larceny
The Whiskey Dic i appreciate it
My step dad drinks makers and ginger ale
I've never tried that
If you can do a review on evan Williams black label
I certainly will!
Do you use the Distiller app on Android/iOS?
+Ashton Childs I haven't bit I've wanted to use some sort of whiskey app badly
The Whiskey Dic you should definitely check it out! I'm particularly picky about app quality but it is really really nice. At least on iPhone. Seems like a really cool community and has a lot of content and is based heavily around "tasting notes." You can also narrow down to specific liquor categories which is nice.
WD-
A question. I have read on other bourbon sites that the reason why Eagle Rare can vary in taste is that they don't clean the bottling equipment from barrel to barrel. This was supposedly coming directly from the distiller itself (Buffalo Trace). I know you can't believe everything you read on the Internet, but I found this news to be unsettling to me. Can you confirm? Or perhaps can anyone else here chime in with info?
I covered this in my Eagle Rare video actually. It's TRUE but not quite as you write it.
It's more that they fill the bottles as if they were single barrel bottles... but there will be some barrels emptying and another one starting into the tailing bottle. So one bottle between the two barrels will be a combination.
If you ask me, Eagle rare should throw a special mark on those bottles. It's free marketing!
Me my glencairn and makers mark sippin and smiling thanks for the review.
I have a tough time getting over that the most Bourbons taste a lot like toothpaste. How you recon i come over this hurdle?
+Henrik Persson Did, I've never heard someone describe bourbon as tasting like whiskey. Either you use delicious toothpaste or drink terrible whiskey.
What are you drinking that you think tastes that way?
Have you tried adding ice?
The Whiskey Dic haha! might be crazy tasting toothpaste here in Sweden.
I have been drinking a lot of bourbons Makers mark, Jack Daniels, Bullet, Jim Beam to name a few. I have been experimenting with glasses and adding water.
But ice is something i havent tried. Dont really like to use ice in my whisky, takes to much flavour away but will try it out and hope that it will help me enjoy bourbons too 👍
+bobwatters Not since 1955!
dammit, just bought a bottle of this as my second after trying buffalo trace, both 40%, stupid nz liquor tax
Try doing some Rye Bill...
+Steve Walther I did whistle pig a few episodes ago. But o do need to do more Rye
Nothing should be added except maybe one or two ice cubes. My parents mix it with Coke, but I think that fouls it up too much.
nice with Diet Pepsi
+udubidub I could believe that. I haven't tried mixing it yet
Time you did
You da bomb man
+Mitch Seifert I appreciate that!
