my hand therapist had/has me doing stretching before I play and before other things and it's made a huge positive difference... was dealing with all kinds of aches and pains prior. The stretching is a mix of stretching on the way down and strengthening on the way up. I don't think it's a good idea to put a video out and saying "stop stretching" etc, I know you're qualified but really everyone is different
I'm not an expert in this but I've had experience, classes and some knowledge in that. I know Dave Eilitch recommended doing jump rope. Jumping jack could do the trick. Just any exercise that make your heart pump will help. And play on your pad, single/double/paradiddle. Nothing fast but with full range of motion. It's just a warm up, nothing fancy.
Makes sense to me, most trainers recommend against stretching before a workout since stretching is known to relax muscles rather than preparing them for a workout and instead recommend a warm up routine that trains similar movements, then stretch after the workout Not that I know, I just hit the thing and pray for the best

Excellent warning thank you! 🙏
You are so welcome
Laughing at my previous comment and then finding this.
Woah this is jaw dropping information, so we shouldn’t stretch in general? If so, I need to get out the habit of stretching daily
You should stretch but really only after doing an activity. A warmup would be something active like jumping rope
finally someone says this ..
Any tips for properly warming up before a fairly intense show?
when is the drumming becomes natural part of daily life
I don't stretch before I play unless if I really just can't get loose from warming up. Any advice for when I can't?

So we shouldn’t stretch at all before drumming?

But what about stretching after playing
Stretching after is good. You definitely want to do that.
