I like the way that you got the kit to sound! The refinish was nice! It's definitely a good setup for small venues!

i re-purposed a 20" kids bass drum found at a flee market for like $15-$20. the drum started out as a mini kit for my little brother when he was younger but he never reall took to playing. I then used it and some other spare drums at my friends house as a kit to leave at his house for practice and random quick shows/jams.

Japanese saws are just about my favorite tools. Lightweight; perfect for non-construction tasks, which is most everything under 3’. And you said "I could call this drum a wrap" unironically--that ain't easy ;-)

I bought a 5 piece SP set from facebook 7 years ago. I was honestly very surprised on how decent the hardware was. I have since been upgrading for the past couple years, and it is still my main kit.

Awesome project! I bought a 5 pc SPL for $150 rewrapped with mint colored contact paper. You’re right, the hardware is legit. I even made the Tom into a snom with some creativity in hole lineups for the Tom legs. I put an aquarium batter on too and agree it sounds great. I put the SPL logos back on too. Keep up the great work. Love watching your projects.

Great idea but for me no workshop hoping to buy a bass drum around 16" from a kids set I have many cymbals to compliment but lacking a bass drum I have flat one 20" but hope to improve a kids just giving it a superior feel.
I enjoy watching this its given me inspiration.
as a 72 yr old I love the skill we have gained over 50yrs ,I have played so many styles from weddings to festivals it's a passion.
    Many Thanks

I use a kid drumset for gigs. I added a DIY kick riser and the drumset has a 13 inch floortom.
The only thing I needed to change on the floortom were the floortom brackets and the floortom legs, because the legs were way too short 😂

This will make a cool grab n' go kit for small venues. SPL drums are surprisingly good for the money. A nice score for sure! Up here in downeast maine on the coast, it's all small old bars and rustic restaurants, sometimes with decks overlooking the ocean. You get squeezed into a corner and space is tight. But I love cozy small gigs like that, backing up small bands, or acoustic acts, maybe backing up singer songwriter friends, quick last minute jams with friends. If they comp a meal and the food is good even better! (Fresh seafood on the house anyone? No lobster though, of course! Haha..) My small 18" Tama kit has many many miles on it from just that, and it's sometimes just a bass, snare, high hats, and a cymbal or two is all you need. I'll throw a muffle ring on the snare and grab my favorite multi rods and go have some fun!

    Sound percussion Lab
Guitars centers supposed lower end kit...but interestingly enough, the birch shells are cousins to the yamaha's stage custom birch shells...for half the price. The new hardware is worthy of comparison to the other big guys and once the head's are changed out to quality heads much like the Remo ambassador coated as mentioned and some creative tuning on the batter and resonance heads ( maybe a 2.3mm hoop instead of the 1.3mm common kits come stock with for rim shots) and Shazam!
This kit is without a doubt a contender out there for a reasonable price.
" Cheap Drum's Guy" started out with SPL'S.
Your playing was spot on, in front of pro coverage!
Kit looked fantastic also speaking from a carpenter. 👍

    • @malonedrum
      @malonedrum  Рік тому

These shells were definitely not birch, or any preferable wood, but again, I was impressed.
