An important tip when staining is that you really want to flood the surface of the wood with the stain then gently wipe off the excess after maybe a minute or so.
Wow, that came out a lot nicer than I was expecting. Definitely gonna do something similar with my old 90s pearl export which has been sitting in cardboard boxes for years. Hell I might even straight up steal your design too. Thanks man
Kendrick Thomas just keep in mind, the products I used are bottom of the line so you could always try it with better stain and clear coat. Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations. I'm stoked that my video helped you out! Send me some pictures when it's done.
Why do you have to tape the edges? What does it prevent . Trying to do this on my kit.... Wanted to stain the whole kit a dark brown and put a blue stripe in the middle and have the snare be an invert of the whole kit... First time doing something like this so we shall see how it goes
you got me going mang. it'll be -20 or more soon here in beaver fuck Canada so I will adjust accordingly; staying away from outside. my child free Labour from my sons will create memories and less work for dad. cheers
Can I use a 2in1 stain & varnish high-gloss wood finish on my drum shell? I'm making a project and I've remove the wrap on my drums cause it's too dirty and can easily tear the wrap so I decided to take them out and make a new wood style looking on my drums
Hi, I am about to do this myself but I just wanted to ask, do you apply the clear coat as many times required and then sand? Or do you sand per each time you apply a new coat? Cheers mate, excellent video
Sand between coats with 220grit. Just enough to smooth out uneven surfaces and to create an abrasive surface for the next coat to have a strong bond. You don't want to remove what you just applied.
Thanks man, this a great video and I find pretty instructive and hilarious haha. Only question is, how long did it take you to do this? Could I do this in a weekend? And if it's not warm (it's the Fall, and in Indiana lol) would drying be a hassle?
Best stain tutorial EVER!!!! Glad he explained how to apply the square root of the davinci code.... That will really come in handy!

I really enjoyed your video. I have a lower grade kit I wanted to do something with! It is finished in the black wrap as well! Thank you!!

My daughter has a shitty beginners kit, maybe I'll take the wraps off and do this. Some good heads and some tweaks and it can be a cool practice kit.

If it gets on the inside of the shell or the bearing edges it can change the sound of the drum

i'm gonna stain my drumkit ...
Rag not wrap
Tried woodprix already?
Thanks....lol....:)
... I do this as a profession... You did not even read the instructions on the can. They look crappy. Loaded with tons of flaws.
So stoked to have a professional chime in negatively on a video that states in the title "with no skill". Of course there are flaws goofball.
