Wooooooooooooot! #1🤗. . . Never seen one of Scott 1. I don’t collect U.S. but can definitely understand the excitement; for me when I got my first penny black. And happy, belated birthday 🎉
Happy (belated) Birthday! Nice stamp! I recently inherited a few dollars from my Mom’s small estate…. spent $300. on a nice, very lightly cancelled GB one-pound PUC stamp. With so many thousands of common stamps, I think it’s good for us to reward ourselves on occasion, by getting one of the, for most of us peasant philatelists, “expensive” stamps that we’ve drooled over, wondered about and dreamed of having in our collection. Congratulations on a grand addition to yer collection!
WOW lucky guy - Happy Birthday - As an Englishman I am just starting my collection of American stamps and I have to say they are amazing, especially the older stamps. I'm sure you or your viewers would know the answer (I think I do too) to the question "who features the most on U.S stamps over the years, my feeling is George Washington but I'd be interested to know who if it's not him? The oldest I have is an amazing Imperforate Orange Brown type I of George Washington 3c from 1851 but I love all the early years up to the 1950's. I know a lot of people will rave about the 1898 Trans Mississippi Exposition set and in particular the $1 Western Cattle in Storm stamp, or the Pan- American Exposition set of 1901, or the 1918 Curtiss Jenny set, of which I have all three values, sadly no Inverted Jenny, (all great sets) but for me the artwork of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition set and the story telling of the 1925 150th Battle of Lexington-Concord are very hard to beat. Living in the UK access to reasonably priced U.S. stamps is very limited, seems everyone has jumped on the stamp band wagon since Covid and the explosion of stamps online. I note you collect G.B. stamps and would be very happy to swap any duplicate U.S stamps you have for my duplicate G.B. stamps, if that's of interest please drop me an email at andymhutchins@btinternet.com Keep them videos coming 😀
Thanks for the note! And quite possibly... I'm in a real hectic stretch at work, but I'll make note of your kind offer and down the road may reach out... happy collecting!
That's a great question... and unfortunately, I've never been part of the exercise so I don't know much. I know that comparables are used, especially for color variations. And ultimately, it's about the reputation of the verifier... look for companies that have been in the field for a long time...
Happy Birthday! Looks great in the album. They get addicting, next you will want the 2 and then the 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D. Bill Grosses 1847 siegel auction catalogue has a great overview of that issue.
Mine is a little less heavy but the color is the same a sort of pink orange type. was told not a common color but has been noted in catalogues. Doesn't destroy the stamp nor cover face so badly u can't see the design.
Not to rain on your parade.but that certificate is not generally recognized as valid since that company is not known to have had a valid reference library for certification on its own. That company used those certs as a marketing tool. You should only regard certs from the APS, PF or PSE as genuine and backed in good faith. I am very experienced in grading and authenticating myself amd frankly, that stamp looks counterfeit, but would have to examine first hand to be sure. None of the cancelation ink shows through the back for one thing and the paper looks too crisp/clean.
You're not raining in my parade... I appreciate your insight... since this video was made I've learned about this authentication company, so I too am concerned. I've been meaning to send it in for an expert to look at, and you've given me a good nudge...

Absolutely... they're little keepsakes, and well worth it, from time to time...
Nice looking #1! You might want to get an APS, Philatelic Foundation or PSE certification to be sure there are not any hidden repairs.

I waited forever! Had to be the right one, right moment for me... this felt like it...
Happy Birthday and fantastic stamp! Enjoy your day.
Out of curiosity - could you do a video on how people verify stamp authenticity?

Boy you crack yourself up
Uh huh. I learned along time ago not to take myself too seriously, and I started a UA-cam channel to try and make people smile.
Just gave myself the $1 Trans Miss , Mint, last week :-) And no buyer's remorse!
