One of the best pop songs ever.
Can't believe you've never heard of them, over 150 million record sales
Reaching 400 million now
@@carlawiberg6282 I thought it was low, for nearly 50 years in the business 👍
@@carlawiberg6282 Over 400 million and still heading on!
@@christianoazzuro6711 yep - more like 500,000 million now - and moving past that!
More to 800 Million Copies... ABBA is the third ranked seller, behind Beatles (1,4 Mrd) and Elvis (around 850 Mio)...
it is funny that people on this planet did not hear or listen to ABBA. They dominated the 70ties the same way the beatles did in the 60ties
ABBA is Swedish. 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names. they have a whole list of songs. and even a stage play and a movie that was made from and around their songs, " mama mia" which was a title of one of their songs as well. ABBA's songs are classified as "POP"
And now they produce new music 😻
That must be the connection I was born in 1972 and adore ABBA💛
What rock did he climb from under? They don’t sound English maybe Northern Europe. Her voice is “good”!! Ok, me bad.
I knew that.
Pop now but back then considered ballad disco and soft
You have scratched the tip of the ABBA iceberg; there are so many musical gems that they have created; try their first one Honey, Honey.
They are the masters of sad songs wrapped up in a happy tune.
ABBA was a huge group in the 1970's. They broke up in 1982 after both couples divorced. They had numerous hit songs worldwide with over 380 million records sold. The tony award winning play Mama Mia, was based on the music of ABBA and included ABBA songs, including the song Mama Mia. Other famous ABBA songs in the play were Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Money, Money, Money, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme , Voulez-Vous, SOS, The Winner Takes It All, Super Trooper, Thank You For The Music, and many others. The play was made into 2 movies with a 3rd coming out.. They had said they would never reunite, but suddenly, in 2021. they announced they were putting out new recordings almost 40 years later. They released 2 of ten new songs last month."I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut me Down". They are all in their 70's now. ABBA fans are of course going crazy as this legendary band is back together.
Remember that when ABBA was recording and touring things like AutoTune and vocal correction were unknown - what you hear is pure talent, and nothing short of genius-level at that (I used to be a touring musician as well, having made 3 records and I am completely in awe of ABBA's musicality and ability to write a perfect song as well; they're the real deal).
And it’s not in their native language. That part gets glossed over. They are writing great lyrics in a second language. Incredible.
Love hearing them sing live like in this video. Annifrid and Agnetha had such great voices and they understood that singing together was not about screaming and trying to outshine each other like modern singers.
Mamma Mia is great! Winner Takes It All is beautiful too.
This is the only palindromic song by a palindromic band.
The studio versions are the best, because they are foremost a studio group and produced the best sounding material in the day (and still sound fresh). 22 worldhits from 1974 to 1982. second best selling act in history. Their albums are full of lesser-known songs that could also have been hits. And every song is completely different in style and sound but completely recognizable as ABBA. They are a pop phenomenon!
Some song are better or perfect like the Get on the Carousel by Abba
I just adore ABBA. Dancing Queen I believe is the best known song from the group and it is awesome/groovy lol
remember
ABBA is a Swedish pop group recording between 1972/1982
and now return to studio in 2017 After 35 years!
ABBA is an acronim with initials of their first names
Agnetha (71) blonde soprano singer
Benny (74) pianist songwriter
Björn (76) guitarist songwriter
Anni Frid (75) brunette mezzo soprano singer
In the begin They was two couples too, but both couples split:
Agnetha & Björn at end 1978
Anni Frid & Benny at begin 1981
so They continue as a group until the end of 1982,
and comes back now, with two new songs in last September 2 , and a new álbum to be released in next November 5!
Knowing me knowing you is amazing also the visitors
So many great ABBA songs. Dancing Queen, Fernando, Voulez Vous, Chiquitita, Gimme gimme gimme, Take A Chance on Me, Mamma Mia to name a few
ABBA, aka one of my all time favorites. The first cd I ever bought myself (in middle school) was their greatest hits. So many great songs
Absolutely love this song
I'mso glad to see you react my favorite ABBA song
"S.O.S." has a story
It was one of Their first recordings after the greatest success of "Waterloo" in Eurovisión, just four months later, in August 1974
But it waited almost a year for its release, in June 1975 at Sweden, September 1975 at UK and US
"Waterloo" needed another theme to confirm the trend and it was not an isolated success or a stroke of luck
ABBA's next three elections failed to stand out
Until finally "S.O.S." have your chance to be a single, and broke the drought, reaching #6 in the U.K. and #15 in the U.S. being Their second hit in both countries at the same time, and six #1 and more Top 10 in several countries of all continents
and after these, ABBA had 18 Top 10 consecutives in UK between 1975/1982, for example:
Mamma Mía, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a chance con me, Chiquitita, etc
"S.O.S." in less than 200 seconds is a gem, a masterpiece!
The transitions from the dramatic opening (a dingy piano and a cracking Agnetha voice) to a powerful rock beat with catchy pop chorus in the middle are brilliant.
ABBA marked an era in many ways One was the musical leadership of its beautiful and lofty female vocalists as the center of attention
Another was the use of contrasts, such as sad lyrics with catchy melodies and harmonies
And their recording tecnique "wall of sound" gives ABBA more powerfull
ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, left an unforgettable mark on several generations
It is good music that lasts and stays alive and well.
Thank you very much for your honesty and sensitive in your reaction I hope to see you in another video to ABBA
I suggest you their first worldwide hit: "Waterloo", the live perfomance in Eurovision, when ABBA win and begin your fame as a group:

Stationed in Germany much of the 70s and a part of the 80s and their music dominated the festivals and carnivals and Germany has a lot of those. Such a distinctive sound. Thanks for the momories.
The Gods Of Pop with over 400 million albums sold nd a musical that as taken billions worldwide.
Well done - ABBA are Swedish. Can you do a reaction to Abba's "Knowing me, Knowing you " and "The Winner takes it all" Breakup songs going on when they were actually breaking up in the band - both were married couples. thanks
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" is arguably the greatest adult breakup song ever written.
wrong one of them is from norway
@@johnsullivan659 Yes, Frida was born in Norway but grew up in Sweden.
One of the biggest bands and most successful of all time , they were huge in the UK in the 70's and early 80's ...🇬🇧🇸🇪
Omg the memories this brings back. One of my summer jobs during high school had Abba on the stereo 24/7. Loved them.
they are wonderful, Mama Miaa was such a feel good movie, I watch it over and over.
Abba individually had success in Sweden. Four talented musicians met - and married - and wrote songs and music that while seemingly simple and catchy, were technically very complex and clever, filled with hooks that captured an international audience. The wrote about life and love and loss - from mature people who knew exactly what they were talking about. The music did become darker and more complex towards the end - and it shows in the lyrics. Abba were phenomenal in all senses of the word - and tends to grown on you, more and more with time. I loved being a teenager in the 70's!
Never heard of ABBA before ? One of the largest grop ever and sold over 400 million records . Dancing Queen is concidered one of the best pop songs ever written.
The world of Abba , enjoy
Yes sir you have an amazing day also, good reaction.
I was never overly impressed by ABBA, but they are icons here in Sweden, for sure.
ABBA, Winner takes it all!
One of ABBA’s best
ABBA is fenomenal ...my fav song is " Chiquitita" translation " little one"
translation "little Girl'"
as the same in
"Slipping through my fingers"
The lyrics are sad and yet the song makes me smile. Love it!!
Great music, please do more ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The two ladies didn't speak English at the time. They learned the songs phonetically. Bjorn and Bennie did speak English.
ABBA took the world by storm.
Think this came close to when she got divorced. Dancing Queen was the one to bring them out into the world. Had so many great hit tunes.
We were metal heads in the 70's and 80's, but we still loved ABBA
Love this song 🎵. I love ABBA ❤. I only wish I still had my white Gogo boots.thx for sharing.
The man playing the Piano also wrote, One Night in Bangkok years latter.
Enjoyed thanks.
Hey, ABBA, who is one of the most succesful groups in history, just released two new songs after 40 years, "I still have faith in you" and "don't shut me down".
The Winner Takes It all is their best song for me :)
No one does love songs quite like ABBA. Whether they are about falling in love, being in love, or breaking up, the songs are sophisticated lyrically and musically.
THEY WON THE 1974 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST SET IN BRIGHTON ENGLAND with the song waterloo
You are correct. ABBA is from Sweden. I thought I’d heard all of their songs but I’ve never heard this one.
When my parents were on a trip to Sweden she was amazed at all the Americans who worked in restaurants and such. Then she finally asked one where they were from. When they responded the town they were in, she was shocked. She said the server thought the reason they all had “American” accents has something to do with how easy it is for Swedish speakers to speak the sounds of English, but also because they consume a lot of American music, tv, and movies, and can mimic them. ABBA and Ace of Base both sang with very little accent, so maybe this Swedish server was on to something.
they announced that they have built a special arena for their concert in London which will feature their ABBA-tars as they call them, holograms of what they looked like in 1978, but how there voices are in 2021, the show opens in 2022
Thank you for not being cruel about ABBA. A lot of boomers adore ABBA, but younger people seem to relish criticizing them. When ABBA broke up, we all went through the emotions in the song SOS and had a hard time moving on.
This isn't the 1975 official video with the glorious studio version where the iconic mini moog synthesizer was used to bridge the verses to the chorus..But still its good. The ultimate live version is the famous one filmed during their 1977 Australian tour from 'ABBA THE MOVIE'.That was electric. So better give it a 2nd try at least privately. This is a significant and very important song in the history of Abba's career as well as in the recorded modern pop music.Rockers such as Pete Towensent(The Who),John Lennon, and punkers The Sex Pistols, have praised- Pop band- Abba for this masterpiece amongst others. With the sad exception of the USA,ABBA was -and still is-really big deal in the rest of the world.A culture phenomenon. From Europe and South Africa to Australia and Latin American countries where they had even recorded a whole album in Spanish languague..They have sold more than 400million records and still heading. Second best selling band in the history of recorded music right after the Beatles. And not American or English but Swedish outsiders.Pretty hard to be acceptable from 'the others' back then.John Frusciante with the Red Hot Chilly Peppers often did live cover to this song while being on tour.CHER has also covered this in her 2018 ABBA tribute album"DancingQueen.'
remember that the last live versión of the masterpiece "S.O.S." is in the TV special 'ABBA in Japan' (1978)
also, I agree with You in all
about S.O.S. and ABBA
@@eduardooscar309 OH yes thats right Eduardo! I have seen that too!.And maybe i'm wrong but to my ears, Frida"s voice sounds slightly louder than Agnetha in the chorus while performing this and the 'drumming' sounds slightly thicker. This last 1978 TV live performance is more "enriched"than the 1975 TV "BBC seaside special' version that we see here.Have a nice week and thank you for your reminding me this.
Where have you been all your life, if you haven't heard of ABBA? C'mon, man! (As Joe the Potato would quip)
I would love to see your reaction the their two new songs they just released after 40 years, "I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut Me Down". Also some of their older songs "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and "The Visitor".
The song is about a relationship in danger. She has not given up on it yet. She is just noticing that things are not the same as the beginning. (Sound familiar). It is not about someone obsessed with a failed relationship. It is someone hoping that the "rough patch" can be overcome. Thanks for your reaction.
I always interpreted the song to be about an existing couple that is growing apart (or where the other partner is not as into the relationship anymore) and where she is trying to communicate her concern about the distancing relationship.
Top five or top three groups of all time. Easily.
“The Way Old Friends Do” (live in Wembley,London) should be your next ABBA review. It is truly a stunning performance. ✌️
They are from Sweden and her command of English does get 100% better. They will have a new album out soon.
Agnetha Fältskog sang this in her native Swedish language, on her solo album "Elva kvinnor i ett hus". I like Agnetha´s solo version better, because it is the original, before they recorded it in English, as a foursome (ABBA), for their 3rd and self-titled album.
This song is what "solidified" them as pop superstars, after winning the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Brighton, England (1974), with "Waterloo".
Virkelig?
Lærer noe nytt hver dag.
Enjoyed your professional reaction ! This is a very good live clip, however the original record production highlights explosive crashing chorus with the girls elevated harmonies combined with electric guitar. The song is a blend of classical, pop, rock....this tune hooked me on ABBA in 1975. The band went their separate ways in 1982. After almost 40 years the group has reunited and produced a full new album VOYAGE, out Nov.5th 2021. Two new songs released now. Please react to 'I Still Have Faith In You' and 'Don't Shut Me Down' The biggest comeback in music history !
Thanks. Man first time hearing ABBA. Your in for some great music. They were 2 couples. The guy's wrote and mainly the girls did the songs. Both marriages failed and they broke up while right at the top. They are still huge around the world. Just so you know they just released new music last month after not working together for 40 years. You should react to 'I still have faith in you' and 'Don't shut me down'. That's the 2 new songs out so far. Their all in their 70's now.
☮️💙💙💙
Wow it's an acoustic version! I've never heard this version.
The third greatest sold artists through all times, they have so many hits and are famous all over the world, specially Australia and Asia, think you reacted to the winner takes it all
You need the studioversion, Despite the weak version..
To me SOS is one of the absolute favs (still have the original single ♥ ) since it was released (i was around 9) it's been stuck in my spine. "it used to be so nice, it used to be so good" Then when the piano "gathering" them all with the did-de-li-de-did-de-li
(that part is so perfected and clean in execution) the pace he keeps is perfect for "waterfalls"
, then the others comes along perfectly abrupt with the hook and singin just to stumble in to
the catchy refrain...
Typical Abba is Benny's splendid short piano inputs, hardly not noticed but infact make the songs somehow, here ...or in the studioversion they are many and not shy to show themselves : )
Lay All YOur Love on Me, do that :)
Abba are I believe top 3 best selling bands ever in the history, closely behind the Beatles. Listen some more to them! :)
I love ABBA. Check out their other music.
This is my favorite ABBA song. Fernando is another I love. ABBA is a great band. Dancing Queen is probably their most famous song, but they have a pretty big catalog. I've heard they may have a new album coming out after many, many years. They are kind of the Swedish Fleetwood Mac, if that makes sense.
They’re from Sweden. Of course their music is from the 70’s but their style is very different then what we were used too here in the states all those years a go. Great Group.
What a fucking banger this is
For me it's about an unrequited love with a former co-worker, and her favorite band just so happemed to be...ABBA...I ultimatley quit the job just to give her the space she much deserved. But, I still miss her, and still have yet to move on.
Oh yes , this is great .There was an ABBA tribute band called Bjorn Again in the 90s who did a fantastic cover of SOS and many other songs. Maybe try "(ABBA) Bjorn Again 1998 Full Concert" (SOS is at 9.10)
Better check out ABBA, as they wrote many many great and famous songs. There are actually movies and plays based on their music. I rank them in the top five song writers, among The Beatles, Bee Gees, Taylor Swift, and Michael Jackson.
ABBA sold a mere 150 million records worldwide
One of the bigest bands of the 70's and early 80's please check out Waterloo and Chiquitita
So many Children are hurting right now. Worldwide
Oh man!!! I hope you react to some Heart soon!!! Love them 💕💕💕
I think one of their best songs was, "Take a Chance on me". The joke was they were Sweden's biggest export.
theres a better one (at least for me), "Lay All Your Love On Me", i think its pretty underrated, but i think its one of the most beautiful melodies
@@everx7
everybody have your own taste and opinion; in my case I think that "S.O.S." is 'The Masterpiece' between all ABBA masterpieces
@@eduardooscar309 i agree and thats why i added, thats only according to me, i wrote and i quote "at least for me", cant force my views and likes on anyone and i wont dare to argue, cause ABBA has lots of great songs in their repertoire.
Hard to believe that this song is 50 years old approx. You would wonder how many songs will be listened to in 50 years time.
My highest grades at school were in Maths , possibly because my maths teacher was the spit of Anna Fried .
My favorite ABBA tracks are , Eagle ( i want at my funeral ) and The Day Before You Came
Even as an emigrated old punk rock Swede,ABBA still makes me proud of being Swedish....but shhh 🙊 Lol
Yeh! unknown northern group that sold 150.000.000 records
Uhhh, nice! Time to dive into the Abba-verse ... thier sound helped shape the sound of POP of the '70s. Songs you should not miss: DANCING QUEEN - KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU - MAMMA MIA (prominently used in 2 more recent movies named after it) - THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL - WATERLOO and THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC
I cannot believe you have never herd of them or this song
Listening to this reaction, I'd suggest you to consider another ABBA song whose title is precisely MOVE ON.
During its time Abba was the third highest resource of Sweden which at the time was still paying its way out of recession and bad loans. Lol when this song came out a few days later Sweden announced they beat their debt with Abba right beside govt speaker
Vocally she is good? She has a vocal range that expands from D3 to Eb6. Listen to 'The Winner Takes It All and you'll hear more of her range.
Maybe worlds most famous band 🤭
damn you're good. placing them in norway/sweden/finland with only that much to go on.
To me the amazing thing about ABBA is that English was was not their first language but they wrote decent English lyrics. True they aren't Bob Dylan but their lyrics are better than some songs from people that had English as their first language.
C'mon friend...you one of the best...still waiting as a #HOG....AMERICA by Tom...we are patient and much respect....peace...by the way...fantastic international star group...Mama Mia and many more...almost a pre Queen...but who can top Freddie??? Very few in his class vocally
Next from Abba: "Fernando"
I'm surprised you hadn't heard of ABBA before in the 70s and 80s they were bigger than Christmas every girl wanted to be like the ABBA girls and every young guy was in lust with them . Bennie and Biorn were overshadowed but both were fangtastic songwriters and wrote many million sellers and went on to write musicals . They have just got together again recently to do some new songs for charity .they all must be in their 70s . My favourite ABBA song is The Winner Takes It All , its beautiful but is one of the sadest songs you'll ever hear.
Please react to Dancing Queen and Summer Night City.
You need to hear Edelweiss - "Bring Me Edelweiss" ;P A great spoof using this song as basis.
Please react to sad eyes- 8pm.
They got a lot of mileage out of two marriages that eventually fell apart. the blond and the guitar player were a couple who were divorced fairly soon after the song came out. He did a lot of the song writing, but she took the lead in a lot of his songs. They seemed to specialize in sad love songs. Their song "Winner Takes it all" is a post marriage tune he wrote and she sang lead in.
Not exactly the word 'soon': more than three years between these live perfomance and their split as couple
"S.O.S " was recording in August 1974 and released in April 1975 ("ABBA" album) and August 1975 (as a single in UK & US)
the couple of Agnetha (blonde singer) & Björn (guitarist songwriter) was split at end of 1978
their divorce was in middle of 1980, just before ABBA recording the song "The winner takes it all"
@@eduardooscar309 I never thought the problems with them started the same year they divorced. I think the songs were a reflection of the problems they were going through leading up to it. Anyone who has been through a rough marriage knows there is a lot of soul searching that goes on to try to fix the problem. They seemed to put it all out there with their songs.
Pop Royalty
My favorite ABBA songs are the depressing ones XD
I’m waiting for the time he reacts to a song by The Beatles and introduces it as a song by an artist or a group. 🙂
ABBA was from Sweden, but Anni-Frid (Frida) the brunette girl is from Norway. Both she and Agnetha (the blonde girl) were teen stars in the late 60's in their native countries.
From 1972 to 1982... u can hear the evolution of pop music in ABBA songs.
Frida may have been born in Norway but was brought to Sweden as a baby by her grandmother for her safety and grew up there speaking Swedish and identifying as Swedish. She truly is a Swede
@@Vikinggirl1679 Man, u cannot change someone's ethnic background by moving countries... Frida is Norwegian from her mom (Dad was German)
U can't claim Frida for Sweden the way u can claim Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was born & raised in Sweden to Bosnian immigrant parents.
@@sumonjamal1653 but she never lived lived in Norway, well only the first months of her life. Yes her father was a married German soldier already with 2 children that got her teenage mother pregnant then when Germany lost the war he left them. Norway hated these German parented children and ostrosized them, institutionalized them, experimented on them etc. Lucky for Frida her grandmother and mother got her out or it wouldn't have been pretty. Then her mom died when she was 2. She doesn't even speak Norwegian and wants nothing to do with the country. She is a Swedish citizen. And she was not a teen star in Norway lol. She was in Sweden
@@Vikinggirl1679 Doesn't change the fact that Frida is Norwegian by ethnicity and birth.
Like I said... Zlatan Ibrahimovic is Swedish because he was born there, despite having Yugoslavian immigrant parents.
She herself doesn't like to acknowledge her Norwegian birth so it's good enough for me. I would just say if you want to be technical that she is Scandinavian then. Me too. I live in Minnesota in the U.S. but my grandparents came from Sweden.
Where have you been that you have never heard of ABBA???
It is a bit like unintendet comedy, if one caters to the audience a lecture about ABBA, with no clue about whom he even talks. This is the second best selling group on this planet of all times, singing a song, which many call the perfect pop song. Really, I do not want to offend you in any way, but the people will come in their thousands, because it's an Abba song, and everyone who clicks your videos because of ABBA, knows this Group and this song and it's meaning. You should not speak like a lecturer in this case.
Do wind of change by scorpions that’s a good one
There's a sequel titled "Keep An Eye On Dan".
