Hey the garbage workers are earning a wage. They are use to the smell. Remember they are outcasts and what else are they to do. The also provide a very important service to the city as no one else will do it.
We have been to Slab City a couple of times and stayed a few days.... Most of these folks are really friendly and welcoming. Its not dangerous. In fact the rules are clear.
If you are a thief, you will be escorted out, if you touch a woman in a way you shouldn't, your camp will be burned to the ground and you will be unkindly escorted out.... in other words, its not lawless, it fact they have to live under rules or it wouldn't work...
Mr. Boyd, it's one place in the world you should get of your comfort zone to visit.

5:35 I was in Whittier Alaska working for salmon season. It's beautiful. If you ever have a chance to go to Alaska go, during the summer. It's amazing.
Favellas ,saw similar in Cusco Peru,people carrying water,some had a cow or pig in tiny yard,and of course guinea pigs .
Don't know about a plaque starting as this has been going on for years and it is very dam cold.
Last I heard, that guys island that floats fell apart now if I recall. Not all apart, but enough that he is rebuilding some of it. As for shi taxes, he's paying nothing. The only monthly bill he has is (at least earlier on), he had a long power cord going to the island.
Speaking of cool bridges in Spain (there are a few), Ronda is one of my absolute favorite towns. Taking a horse & carriage ride with the wife over the old bridge that spans across the gorge.

While back in India. 2 children defecated on a a street gutter. Children got brutally beaten with a stick by a cop. No bathrooms or good sewer systems so they had to go on the gutter. I wonder what happened to that cop??Any1 knows?

I've been through Slab City in transit to a range while i was in the Marines. All you can smell driving through is them cooking meth. Idk if that's normal or not but its a thing. I went through multiple times within a month and every single time it smelled like that. Would not recommend.
Imagine bring born in Cairos garbage city and going to school in Lake Titty Caca graduating to work in that goldmine.
