- Hi, this trying to fix video shows me attempting to repair a Hotpoint Aqualtis washing machine with a F-05 fault.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.

Hello Vince. I don't know if you have room above, but if you put a couple of 4" x 4" short posts under the washing machine's feet, you would have room enough to access the drain (fit a pan under it) and you would have easier access to the door and clothes. Having the door a little higher is a great feature that saves on the back for loading and unloading. Keep up the great vids!
Nice one Vince! I had a similar fault years ago. My fix was more fun though - I had to replace the pump. Fixing stuff is really really satifying!
Set machine at 95c and add vinegar in drum, run a program and machine is clean as a whistle. And Vince, that filter shall be checked regulary 😀

The two times I had to drain washer full of water I ended up moving the actual machine over a floor drain to let the water out. Nice video Vince!
Same with me. I think in this case his washing machine is in the garage, which probably doesn't have a floor drain.

Nice fix Vince, When you ever got F02 displayed check the carbon brushes on the motor it's a fault code that could shows up when a machine reaches the age of 10-15 years depending on the use of it.
To empty a washing machine quicker!!
Take the drainage pipe at the back of the machine and lower it to below the level of the drum. Water will flow out quick and you can fill a saucepan in seconds. You can control the flow by raising or lowering the pipe. That then leaves only a small amount of water at the bottom filter you were emptying with.
Thank you. This is so obvious now that I know.... but I didn't even think of that at the time. Next time I have to do this I will definitely do the rear waste pipe first to get the majority of the water out :-) Can't believe I didn't think to do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow up until you said you had a stacked washer/dryer combo, I was questioning why you didn't block the washer up and have it drain into the pan. Glad to hear you got your washing machine fixed. I'd suggest replacing the plug with a drain valve that you can attach a hose next time you need to drain it.

My washer is old but not that old but we've loved it all these 10 almost 11 years, I'm not big on repairs but you make me feel like I almost could. Greetings and cheerio from the USA!
Hotpoint really make it a faff to remove the filter. My Bosch just undo a small flap and twist open.
My Hotpoint washing machine wouldn't start, a quick google search suggested one of the capacitors had blown on the PCB,. So I removed the PCB, and soldered in a new capacitor costing 44 pence. I probably saved myself either the cost of new washing machine, or the cost of a repair. Just goes to show that it is generally always worth having an attempt at repair yourself.
Tilt washer back, support on something like 2 screwdriver handles, use paint roller tray to catch water. 👍👍👍🦆
Few years back my old washing machine failed spectacularly during the spinning cycle :D
It was already so old it wasn't sensible to repair anymore so bought a new one.

around half year ago i had same problem with my Panasonic washing machine and it gave me the same error code, i find 2 toothpicks jammed on filter. Nice job there, you found the problem thunder fast ;) I used shallow tray under the filter draining exit and basin it took me like 10 minutes for the whole procedure.
What i normally do is put my washer on a 90" wash with no clothes, detergent, etc, just to flush the system out, get some Calgon to get rid of all the limescale, works wonders
Nice video heres a tip faster way to empty the drum is by the waste hose into a basin on the floor level. Lift hose higher to stop water then empty basin and start again.
Nice video and good channel you have here pal, especially for nerds like me. It's refreshing to see that there are helpful people like yourself who create these videos to both educate and promote preservation and maintenance of whitegoods in the materialistic throw away world in which we live. Incidentally when I moved into my current house I had a similar issue with a Beko machine not draining properly which was bought by the previous owner. I opened the sump like you did only to see the remnants of disposable gloves in there... the mind boggles.

I have no special knowledge of appliance repair but I have fixed our front loading washer
4 separate times where the drum stopped full of water. Twice the issue was the door latch wax motor and twice it was a clogged pump like in your video.
Fortunate for us entering the machine diagnostic mode with the controls allowed a brute test on the pump.
Through diagnoses options the pump was turned on to empty all the water to drain normal 3 of those 4 repairs.
I really enjoy your trying to fix videos. Please keep making vids and courageously attempting reflows.
Who knows the previous owners attempt might have been that guys first effort. And your better at repair than him?
Especially like to see you build more and better soldering skills. They say to add lead to get it to flow better?
Your pump impeller appeared wedged, so my suggestion may/would not help on this one but you might like the diagnoses mode.

You use a washing machine ? I use my magic floor. I simply leave all my clothes on the magic floor and when I get home from work they are all clean and hanging in the wardrobe.

The persons spouse or equivalent I guess. I also guess on ownership of a washing machine being required for the magic floor to work.

I have a magic floor aswell, but it doesn't work like yours, I clean up and 5 minutes later its magically produced more washing.
Had this happen when a £2 coin had come apart and the outer ring had stuck on one of the blades. Had to use a soldering iron to melt a bit of the plastic and fish it out with some needle nose pliers. Afterwards, I put the coin back together and bought myself a coke :-) Washing machine still works great by the way!

If you use one or two table spoons of clear vinegar in sted of fabric softener, your washing machine will last longer and the environment will thank you 🙂
The colours on the fabric will stay more colour full too and it takes care of bad smell too.
Vinegar acid works too but are a bit more dangerous to handle 🙂

Happens all the time in my house as there is 8 of us. I just use loads of towels and mop and then throw the towels straight back I the washer. Great fix Vince and always empty youre pockets before washing.
Hi Vince, a very good video. Quite amazed by how mutch water would be inside a washing machine and how long it would take to drain. Glad you got the machine working again. :)

I had this problem exactly!! Unfortunately my washer is in the kitchen. If you had the space it may be beneficial to raise the washer up on some solid platform then next time you can drain it easy.

Newer machines have a mini drain hose at the front so you don't get water everywhere
My Bosch machine has an emergency water drain tube.
The Third Reich called and asked for their eagle emblem back btw.
i get this with my washer it's always hair slides stuck in the pump or pennies, a hazard of living with all girls in my house, but Great video i think this will help people save some money.

Last time I had to do that, I went ahead to open the cap that covers the access to the waterpump but noticed something next to it. "Wait.. wha's that?" A thingy with a red cap that caught my eye. After some poking, i realized its a tube you can pull out and with which you can use bigger containers to drain the water from the washing machine "Hallelujah! \O_O/ Finally a company that has mercy on us washing machine fixers!" *lol* Every washing machine should have that :p

Nice one Vince! I have never tinkered with a front load washer! I'm surprised there isn't some sort of screen on the drain between the clothes and pump that would catch something that big from getting into the pump! On a top load washed you lay the hose below the level of the tank and it drains out with gravity. Keep up the good work!
Jim Bussey this special type of Pump is designed to transport objects with the water flow even if they’re are bigger then the pump cause somehow they make those objects being pumped out without even getting thru the pump or even touching it.
I got a video recommended where one explained how this works but i didn’t watch it.

We’ve had this same problem with our washer. When we drained it, we had to use pliers to force the drain cap of the washer drain pump. We had to use grease on it after struggling with it for hours. We finally freed it to found a coin had worked its way down the drain tube

Get yourself a little tub of 3M Silicone grease, use a little on the threads of the strainer (to keep it from getting stuck again) and of course also for that rubber seal to keep it nice and soft and sealing good :) a little bit of that grease goes a long way! Ive had a small tub of it for over 4 years and still haven't even used half of it lol.
How much does it cost to rent a My Mate VINCE to fix everything in my house?
Ill get him first for my dimmer!

Done this fix myself. Took 10 minutes to remove 3 pound coins. The clue is the different pump noise. If you don't mind getting floor wet and there's not boxes it's a quick fix.
Your wife must be quite annoyed that she can't buy new things since you fix everything. XD

To drain down in future just pull the machine out and drop the grey waste pipe into a bucket and the water will run out. Either that or pull it out half way so you can tilt it back against the wall or worktop so it will counterbalance itself and you should have enough room to get a bowl underneath. Also be careful if you filter is ever jammed solid like that as sometimes the foreign body will be jammed between filter and housing and you'll snap the plastic by forcing it. Another great vid tho Vince 👍
Thanks for the tips. Embarrassingly I didn't think to drop the actual waste pipe from the back down to the ground as that would have drained out a good bit of the drum leaving less mopping up to be done. I hope I remember this for next time :-)

Question. Why not use a wet dry vac to vacuum up the water instead of using rags and a pan? Just thought that might be easier to deal with. Always love the videos!!

This is just like the fridge you fixed....im having to watch from behind a cushion 😂😂 the shape of the filter cap causes it to catch on whatever is stuck in yhe pump and there are 2 options...force it and brake it off or remove pump unit from back of assembly and extract the blockage that way
Vince if you take out the waste hose and drop it below the drum level then you can drain the water into a bucket a lot easier.
Once I came down in my laundry room and found it flooded. I was about to take my tool box when I realized my ex-mate started the washing machine with a sock stuck in between the door and the gasket - she didn't realize that upon closing the door (oh lord!). The water sipped throug the sock, all the way down to the floor.

i had a similar problem about 3 months ago , checked the trap lots of change and shit in it but still got the error and would not drain , turns out an elastic band had got past the trap filter and wrapped itself all around the impeller , my machine had a hose clamp on one end of the drain pump that i could see how to get off but the clamp on the other end was not the same and i had no clue how to remove it or if it could even be removed ,i thought i needed to remove the drain pump but couldn't
so i got a crochet hook and bent it and was able to pull the elastic out , not easy, it broke and i had to fish out the other part of it too , so make sure you always check your pockets
elastic bands are the worst , the thing was wrapped all around the impeller several times and it would not budge i would say i got really lucky being able to remove it without removing the drain pump , also i tried to test the machine with a cycle before putting the kick plate back and the machine still was giving an error and not draining , turns out there is a spring loaded button like the one that turns the light out in your fridge that the kick plate holds down, if the button is not being pressed in by the kick plate the machine will not work and show an error code
also i think i had to reset the computer to clear the code too
Vince now has the cleanest garage floor in UK. :). Its amazing what can stop a pump from spinning to drain the water out. We find pens, money, lighters and all sorts from our sons washing in the washing machine and tumble dryer. He knows he should check all pockets before he puts his washing in the machine. .lol.
Also did you get your dryer modified?
What I do is take the push on plastic/rubber drain pipe that fits to your sink and gradually lower it into a bowl, this leaves just a minimum amount of water when you unscrew the
plug at the bottom of your washing machine. Always worked for me.

Could have unhooked the drain hose from the rear and lay it down into an angled bucket to remove the majority of it quickly.
Although in a twisted way I enjoyed the approach in this video.

Vince a little birdie told me about this thing called a wet-dry vacuum and a wedge to lift up the front of the washer.
Teflon tape is what you are supposed to use for threaded plumbing joints that are tough to tighten and remove. Teflon tape has an added benefit of being a water sealer as well. But never mistake the fact that Teflon tape was created for easy off easy on
Every 3 or 4 months put a hand full of soda crystals in the machine on a boil wash no clothes or washing powder. This is help to clean the machine out

Few 😂 just a stiff cap! I hope your doing service washes and if you live in a hard water you do a regular descale👍
Put some petroleum jelly on the O-ring before you put it back in next time. It will help preserve the seal and make it easier to go in and out.
Pull the washer forward and tip back to about 45 degrees and it will rest on the worktop and you can get a bucket under pump assembly.
I would be on my way to currys after second saucepan full of water lol 🤣🤣🤣

Washing machine repairs are simple until you hit the electronics.I regularly (every 2 years or faster if something breaks) change the belt and the ball bearings on mine and clean the filter and pump together.Until one dreaded day that a short burned a hole through the pcb.I just got another pcb (was pricey for a 10 year old machine) and now it is working again.The i got the opportunity and cleaned the countdown timer with contact cleaner and some switches and now it is like new ,albeit older in generation.

You should be cleaning the trap more than once a year .. On the newer Panasonic washing machines the trap is higher and the easier to get too also it's hand tight
So cheap with are zanusi washing machine to clean the filter there is a small hose that palls out so u don’t have to mop it up
The filter was hard because the pump created a vacuum seal
