Their geography makes logistics easier for a very centralised government. They had naval superiority and access to energy( fire) . It would take months for Ba Sing Se to respond to any disturbance in Earth kingdom territory. By the time Ba Sing Se officials got the news of foreign occupation, a large part of northwestern Earth kingdom was probably annexed by the fire nation.
Moral of the story: Logistics is vital for a nation's growth and security

A comment said he would rather have a crazy strategist like Azula rule over him/her rather than a puppet like Zuko. I thought about it... I understand what he/she means. Firebenders'main trait is to have an ambition and the will to fulfill it. Zuko has neither. Sure, the Fire Nation had to be stoped. But they had to give up what made them...well, them.
Zuko should have killed his father back in the "Day of the Black Sun". He might not get the throne and his father's legacy might live on... but at least the nation will remain loyal to their souls and follow the natural course of things. Which is to wither, die and give birth to new life.

No way, that's Fire Empire propaganda. The Fire Nation lived in relative harmony with the other nations for thousands of years before this 100 year war. Just because a few warlike and power-hungry individuals ascended the throne doesn't mean that Zuko is untrue to Fire Nation beliefs.
In fact, you could argue he (and Iroh) did what was right by taking the Fire Nation back to its roots.
And calling Zuko a puppet is silly and wrong! Even right after the series ended he clashed with Aang and the rest of the world to protect the Fire Nation colonies, eventually leading to Republic City.
It's a trap to think no interested in hurting others for no reason = weak or puppet.

@@SchoolVideosGoHere I see what OP means in regards to Zuko as a puppet. Perhaps lapdog is more appropriate than puppet, though.
In his early years, his motivation in life was to make daddy proud. Later, his motivation was to make his uncle proud...and to find his mammy and play happy family.
He doesn't seem to have any particular vision or ambition of his own. Only ideas planted in his head by Ozai and later, Iroh.
Speaking of Iroh, he's a grandmaster of an order designed to undermine the Fire Nation and subvert the royal family. Its masters include Jeong Jeong, a mentally disturbed man who literally hates himself, his element and his nation...Yeah, I wonder what the character of the White Lotus might be?
Definitely not a pack of traitors.
As much as Iroh denies being a traitor and as cute a li'l guy as he is, you've really got to wonder about his choice of comrades...Just saying...
It's telling too, that Iroh becomes mister 'nice guy' only *after* his throne is taken by Ozai.
We're talking about a span of just three years between Ozai's usurpation and Iroh's White Lotus affiliation and Avatar location/nephew manipulation. That's a hell of a thing, don't you think?
Nobody is saying that disinterest in hurting others is weak. You plucked that from thin air.
Also, why should any Fire Lord care *MORE* about the well-being of Earth Kingdom subjects than his own?
The Fire Nation's population was growing due to industrial progress. That same progress Sozin mentioned he wanted to share with the world.
They needed more territory for their growing population. Who had all the territory? The Earth Kingdom. So much territory that the central (and corrupt, as we know) authorities of Ba Sing Se couldn't even govern it all.
What'd be wrong with the Fire Nation trading its tech with the Earth Kingdom, in exchange for land? Land that the Earth King can't even rule properly.
The growing Fire Nation population has to go somewhere, right? Considering the Air Nomads technically had no land of their own and the Water Tribes only have little frozen wastelands, looks like any surplus would have to go to the overlarge Earth Kingdom.
This is what I think Sozin had in mind, otherwise what the hell would he mean by "share this prosperity with the rest of the world"? There's no other explanation.
Sozin's plans went pear shaped, when Roku flatly rejected his proposal with absolutely no discussion of real world challenges faced by the Fire Nation (namely, the growing population).
This created a conflict between the Fire Lord and the Avatar that needn't have existed. A conflict that Roku left unresolved. Leading to the fiasco of Air Nomad and dragon extinction.
Roku should've taken Sozin much more seriously, discussed the finer detail and *THEN* come to a conclusion. Not knee-jerk reject the Idea with absolutely no thought.
Roku even admitted to Aang that the mess was his own fault, that he acted without proper consideration and that Aang had inherited his failure. Well, yeah Roku, you big dope. It was your fault.
If I were Roku, I'd have taken complete charge of Sozin's plan and remodelled it wherever most appropriate. I'd also cut the Water Tribes and Air Nomads in on the deal. The deal being as follows:
The Earth Kingdom will receive Fire Nation technology. This technology will allow their population and economy to boom and enable their central government to *ACTUALLY GOVERN* the entirety of their territory.
In exchange, the Fire Nation, Water Tribes and Air Nomads will receive land from the Earth Kingdom.
The land can be repartitioned in such a way as to enlarge the others, while still leaving the Earth Kingdom with the vast majority of its Kingdom intact.
It's about time the Air Nomads caught up with the rest of the world, too. Lest they be easy pickings for any nation that might decide to invade them......

  • @mooseolini1447
    @mooseolini1447 2 роки тому +10

To your first point, you're ignoring the existence of the vast majority of the population; non-benders.
The majority of both Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom soldiers, were non-benders. So, any "technological pressure" experienced by the Fire Nation, would've been experienced by the Earth Kingdom, too.
Additionally, there were already beasts of burden available. It would've been much simpler just to rely on those...as the Earth Kingdom did...
I disagree with your point about the Earth Kingdom being at the mercy of raging infernos just because they didn't have any water benders to extinguish fires started by fire benders.
Fire can just as well be smothered by earth, as by water. Also, good luck setting fire to an earthen/rock structure.
Finally, yes, the Fire Nation did have the advantage of metal manipulation and industry. That wasn't something they were born with, though. Nor was it a talent given to them by others.
They devised it through their own genius. They pioneered metal works.
This, despite the fact that all earth benders are born with the innate capacity to manipulate the trace elements of earth inside metal, the Fire Nation beat them to the punch.
That's an impressive feat, though it may be an even more embarrassing fact for earth benders. All they needed was a touch of curiosity and common sense, to deduce that it might be possible to bend something that comes from earth.
Instead, the Fire Nation had to pull off some 200 IQ shit.
The fact is, Fire Nationals are just inherently creative, trail blazing, pioneering and less conservative and pig-headed than their Earth Kingdom foes.
Iroh explains these very things, in the very show.
Much like the Air Nomads, the Earth Kingdom's nature is what holds them back. While the Air Nomads dislike stationary and strictly ordered existences, the Earth Kingdom dislikes change and prefers to use blunt force to solve problems.
Both of them are held back by their innate tendencies, that's why they can't hold a candle to the Fire Nation. The Fire Nation, whose nature it is to "grow" according to Jeong Jeong. They're natural explorers and conquerers.
The only nation that you can give an environmental excuse for their backwardness to, are the Water Tribes. They live in literal frozen wastelands.
Speaking of, don't we think they could do with a little extra territory? Kinda like the Fire Nation, with their pissy little cluster of islands...
Hmm, who has all the territory? Oh, shit, the Earth Kingdom. Fancy that. I wonder how they got all that land in the first place? Big think.
For Christ's sake, the Earth Kingdom has so much territory that the Earth King literally can't even govern it.
Yet, the Fire Nation (or Sozin's family) are inherently evil for wanting more space for their growing population?
A population growing due to their ingenious industrial revolution.
Industry Sozin sought to share with the world. For nothing? Of course not. In exchange for land. Most of which, as mentioned, is held by the overburdened Earth Kingdom.

    • @Alex-hr1bn
      @Alex-hr1bn 2 роки тому +3

the show is actually very historically accurate when you think about it. The fire nation is a chain of islands, similar to Britain and had large amounts of coal deposits just like the UK which is what sparked the Industrial Revolution in real life. It has nothing to do with the "nature" of people or whatever you were talking about but all about the resources available.
Metal bending wasn't even a thing until Toph created it. The fire nation had all the advantages resource wise. Not to mention, the Earth nation was embroiled in a civil war between Chin the Conqueror and The Earth King for a great while so there wasn't exactly time for the Earth nation to sit around and play with metal.

    • @mooseolini1447
      @mooseolini1447 2 роки тому

@@Alex-hr1bn Oh, diddums, was da uhff kingdumb held back by wawuh???
War didn't seem to hold back the Fire Nation, quite the contrary.
If you want to cite historical instances, note that war actually seems to correlate with technological advancement, not the opposite. Besides, the Earth Kingdom was stable (not in a state of civil war) throughout Roku's lifetime, as well as the first twelve years of Aang's, that didn't stop them from being curb-stomped by the Fire Nation early on.
You want to talk about resources and fail to mention the behemoth of the Earth Kingdom?
Seems more than a tad biased. I'm pretty sure they have more resources than the piddly little cluster of islands of the Fire Nation. Perhaps you'll whine about concentration of resources, that doesn't much matter when a central government controls the aforementioned territory, there's nobody and nothing to stop them from utilising said resources.
Not to mention the little fact that earth benders can literally reshape the earth around them. They don't need to waste time and effort constructing mines and other operations the way the Fire Nation does.
As for the failure of earth benders to discover metal bending 'because muh civil war', it was during a far greater war (and in the middle of a conflict situation) that Toph discovered metal bending.
Again, see how conflict often spurs on discovery?
The Air Nomads lived on island chains too. By your reasoning, nothing should've stopped them from being somewhere on par with the Fire Nation.
So, what was it that held them back? It is directly told to us in the very show, something you seem keen to disregard.
Iroh spends several minutes explaining to Zuko the various *NATURES* of the four nations.
The Air Nomads had a detached nature, see how that might (just an eensy weensy little bit) contribute to a severe lack of infrastructural development? No?
Meanwhile, the Earth Kingdom is rigid and deeply conservative, see how their nature might just stifle technological development? No?

@@mooseolini1447 this was a year ago so it’s kind of pointless to respond but I’m gonna respond, war can cause the inability to developed things. It can also speed up development because government dump money at a problem so development speeds up but war is also extremely destructive. You need a period of peace to actually fully crystallize all that development and actually make it useful if you have constant war, you have some advancements but you’re losing so many people and so many smart people are dying that it becomes useless. That’s just my two cents about it .

That civil war ended long before even Kyoshi's death (she saw to that herself, if you recall), then there are the several decades between her death and Aang's birth (Roku's lifetime), then an additional twelve years before the invasion of the Fire Nation.
      Excuses, excuses.
That's a lot of peacetime. Consider how quickly Japan recovered after having two nuclear bombs dropped on them. Consider how quickly Germany recovered after being firebombed to ruins and then split in two between the east and west.
It took less than forty years for Japan to become economically competitive with the West and less than fifty years for Germany to restore itself (including reunification).

    Because?
The very first Avatar was a Fire Bender!
    OK, all jokes a side!
I agree with what you said. I too play RTS games like Starcraft 2, AOE, and Rise of Nations. The Fire Nation was powerful mostly due to technological advantage. Against the other 3 nations with the Earth Kingdom being the 2nd strongest with Ba Sing Se at it's core state. Despite? The Earth Kingdom having the largest territory, very large population, and 2nd strongest nation by military and economy. There still no match against the Fire Nation and her technology. The Fire Nation was already in a Industrial Revolution era well the rest were Medival Renaissance era. After all? The Fire Nation were the first to use Mechanized warfare plus an Air Force against the other 3 Nations. Even during the Siege of the North battle Aang thought he could take on 1 Fire Nation battleship. But? Realized there was more then 1, he had to fight an entire fleet of them. It prove way to much for the Avatar to fight alone. Like you said to they already had ships mostly built out of metal. Which made ships more stronger, more protected, improved armour, not as easily destroyed or damage, and surviving rate was much higher. Well wooden ships were still being used by the other 3 nations. The Fire Nation focused and developed alot of things to besides technology like transportation, infrastructure, resources, and etc. Not only that the Fire Nation had a lot of smart people, innovator, and engineers. To help them build new stuffs. But? From my point of view it was technology that gave the Fire Nation the advantage. Which also helped gave them the edge against the other 3 nations. Since the other nations didn't have the same technological edge as the Fire Nation. It was easily able to defeat the other 3 nations. If it wasn't for the Avatar? The Fire Nation would have dominated and rule the world.
The Avatar was the one that the other 3 nations had. To stop and counter the Fire Nation's advantage. Plus Toph Beifong who would invent metal bending. Which would nullify the Fire Nation's mechanized vehicles, weapons, buildings, and etc.

    • @mooseolini1447
      @mooseolini1447 2 роки тому +1

Yes but Where'd it come from? It didn't just poof into existence.
Someone pointed out elsewhere that fire bending has the weakest defensive properties of the four elements. As far as offensive properties, yes it's effective but not much moreso than the others. Especially earth, a big rock will squash you long before fire will burn you to death.
The point is, the element of fire isn't in and of itself especially potent defensively or even offensively. They had to hone their bending ability to take advantage of that fire power. Requiring a degree of dedication and hard work that the other elements just don't require. It's easy for air benders to evade danger, it's easy for water benders to stay cloistered away in a fortress of ice and as mentioned, it's easy for earth benders hurl a big rock and erect massive walls.
Comparatively, fire benders are at a disadvantage.
As for their technological firepower, that certainly didn't just happen to them. That required not only genius but recognition of that genius and the desire and means to execute the genius's vision.
Contrast that approach to the Earth Kingdom. A visionary would sooner be banished or thrown into prison for 'upsetting the delicate order'.
Contrast that to the Air Nomads, who reject all (or most) structure and order whatsoever. You can't make or implement great discoveries without order or infrastructure.
The Fire Nation gets the balance just right. Strict and conservative enough to have the order and high standards necessary to even begin to make advancements but not so conservative as to reject and malign all pioneers whose ideas might alter or even destroy certain traditions.
The Fire Nation's greater power is deeply impressive on both counts. In the first place, they overcome their innate elemental disadvantage through sheer mastery. In the second place, they outperform the other nations in terms of civilisational progress. Through sheer will and intellect.

Most lack the power or control to propel themselves like that for any length of time. Certainly, without crashing into something and splatting like a fly on the windshield of a speeding car.
Only masters (like Azula and Ozai) can propel themselves (or even fly, at least under Sozin's comet) with their fire bending.
This is due, not only to their greater control and mastery compared to most but due to their much greater chi/energy. The royal family are among those gifted with innately greater and more potent life force/spiritual power.
I still disagree with his point about fire benders lacking an innate method of travel. Since they had dragons during and after their creation of steamships and other technologies.
They had other beasts of burden too, yet that didn't stop them from creating mechanised means of travel.
The idea that the Fire Nation only did this because the average fire bender can't travel the way other benders can using their element, ignores the existence of non-benders.
Since non-benders make up the majority of both the general public and military of both the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom, any necessity that the Fire Nation felt to develope mechanised means of travel, should've been felt by the Earth Kingdom too.
No, the Fire Nation created new methods of war and travel due to their personal nature. Likewise, the Earth Kingdom failed to adapt or pioneer due to their personal nature.
The Earth Kingdom subjects are stubborn, blunt, conventional, unyielding and very much set in their ways. Not a lot of innovation is going to come from them. It's not in their nature.
The Fire Nation citizens are clever, opportunistic, ambitious, willful, creative, adaptable and demanding of themselves and others.
It's very much in their nature to overcome, change their fortune and discover new solutions to problems.

So the fire nation only lost because the leader was dumb and arrogant. The technology and strength of the people was more than enough to win but the arrogance of ozai led to their downfall?
