I hate that in these videos no one comments on sandbending, steambending, glassbending and all the other sub elements and mixed bending styles such as the fact that mudbending can be done by earth and water benders
Pretty sure glassbending isnt canon so that’s why it isnt talked about. Sand and steambending are lesser talked about due to how few appearances they had in ATLA and LOK. Mudbending is also rarely showed.
I want to write an AU where Hama didn't get revenge on the firebenders and instead fled back to the Northern Water Tribe and was Katara's waterbending teacher. I think it'd be really interesting to explore how the story would change.
I'm still kind of on the fence about bloodbending. Sure taking control of the water in one's blood makes sense, but lifting up Katara by her blood? I'm pretty sure that much force would just straight up rip the blood out of her veins or even completely out of her body (not to mention something as huge and heavy as a Bison in Legend of Korra). And even if your veins could stand up to the pressure of your blood being moved about and your body being levitated mid-air, I'm 99% sure that that would also mean you stop the person's blood circulation which would just outright kill them.
i think it works the same way regular water bending works. if a waterbender bent the water in a balloon to lift it, the balloon wouldn’t pop. they’re lifting the water the same way they would lift any other water, so the person’s weight wouldn’t cause them to stay grounded, which would result in them exploding and dying. their body moves with the water, not the other way around.
your body is made up of 60% water. Bloodbending controls over half the body, meaning that only 40% of the bodies weight would be acting against that 60%. no way her blood would get ripped out. Plus, with your blood system being a (hopefully) closed system, the only way to stop circulation would be to stop the heart. Remember that a bloodbender is picking you up by your veins and they run through pretty much every milimeter of your body.
I'd want to see how they can adapt when they uncover all 80 some-odd natural chemical elements, such as a water bender also being able to bend air since both contain oxygen, and earth benders also being able to blood-bend due to the iron in the human blood-stream. Heck, Could an earth bender manipulate metals like uranium, or even plutonium.
There are two key differences between Sparky-sparky Boom Man's combustion bending and P'Li's. Sparky-sparky Boom Man's Combustion bending takes a lot of time to reload. In addition, its trajectory is excusively straight; he cannot make it follow a curved path. P'Li has a better control of it as she can change the direction of her combustion bending trajectory at will. In addition to that, we see from episode 3x12 that she reloads a lot, lot faster than Sparky-sparky Boom Man does, so fast that she manages to keep the metalbenders at bay despite being completely surrounded.
Avatar Roku did also lavabend, there is one remarkable difference in PLi's combustion bending, she was able to curve the shoot with her mind to redirect it psychically. You forgot about Energy Bending, Korra also did Spiritual Projection, that's why she became gigant.

Even Toph when she was figuring out metalbending had to spend a few moments searching for the earth particals and how she could move them. Bolin just stops a giant flow of lava without even thinking about it.

I feel bad for Azula for being use a prodigy instead being the daughter to Firelord Ozai. If her mother Ursa raised well and given her love, her life would of been different. This Fire Princess deserve to have her Redemption Arc.
I truly believe (and think that it would make a great villain in either a 3rd season of Avatar, or the latter years of Korra) that every bender can absorb a teaching from the other elements that they can use. Lava bending could be done either by a Fire Bender (better at making it than flinging it around) or an Earthbender (better at flinging it around than making it). A water bender can use tenants of fire bending to boil water. A fire bender can bend water, but only while it's boiling (they are controlling the heat energy, not the water) or learning how to turn water into hot steam and using it like an air bender. The whole story is an "anti-avatar" is created during "Harmonic Convergence," thanks in part to Unnalok (sp?) who can bend in the spirit world but not in the real world. He still knows bending, and uses benders (students of his) in the physical world as his protection. He's rebuilding the Air Nation, but he's doing it militaristically, trying to assert himself as the world's new Avatar as he forces them into peace (his goals are all worthwhile, he's just doing them wrong) Edit: I'm also not 100% that a combustion bender isn't a fire bender that's learned some air bending techniques (another of the stories ideas)
if it ever got continued i wouldn't be surprised. Air Bending lost so much momentum due to the fire nation, with more time to grow more subsets would emerge
It was said by Bolin that only 1 in 100 Earthbenders were able to learn Metalbending. I would call the "Flight" Voidbending. I believe that Zaheer demonstrated that he had begun to use Voidbending when he removed the air from a location to suffocate people.
Considering that the Void is literally nothing, it can't be bent. Flight would be a mix of Spiritbending and Airbending. Also, he used Airbending to remove the air from peoples lungs and created an empty air shield around people's heads to prevent them from breathing
@@MorganSaph 1) This is a make-believe show about magic. So saying Void couldn't be bent because it's not an element isn't a valid argument. -Fire is not a thing; it's stored chemical energy released from material in thermal runaway. Earth is not a thing. They bend anything from silicon, carbon, and iron to complex solid materials containing bound gas elements. 2) Void = Vaccum, and removing air entirely from an area is something we've only seen Zaheer do. If vacuum is a normal part of Airbending, it would automatically prevent all Firebending.
Since it is my childhood wish to levitate, any form of air bending is my favorite. Water's healing and earh's sensing the earth's vibrations are very cool also. I like the creative ways of each bending. For example, Zuko's uncle once heated water by fire bending which is very useful.
Well in a way yes, it's just that it seemingly is shared between all water benders, thus considered as a part of waterbending rather than a sub bending style
Combustion bending could be like a mixture between fire and air, it could be that they send an air stream then ignite it maybe somehow from a distance.
Types of bending Water bending Earth bending Fire bending Air bending Sub bending: Fire: Lighting Enegry healing Combustion Earth Lava bending Metal bending Sand bending Glass bending (which certain sand benders can do) Water: Blood bending Healing Spirit healing or purification Air bending: Spirit projection Flight Spirit bending ( ability to pull someone's spirit out of his body (someday let it be a thing))
I'd go with lava bending personally, ridiculously destructive and geothermal electricity is super easy to generate so I'd still have electricity for my home and city. lol
Jet propulsion is also another fire bending technique. Also, theres shared bending techniques; Air Benders and Water Benders can bend clouds, earth and water benders can bend plants, fire and earth benders can manipulate volcanism. Not lava bend, but a fire bender can manipulate the energy given off by lava. I believe theres more as well but those are some examples.
Atomic Bending, Void/Space Bending, Gravity Bending, Light/Shadow Bending and Energy Bending are some really cool Bending possibilities that I wish could be expanded upon. But If I had to choose out of all of the available bending in accepted lore then just Air Bending/Spiritual Bending.
Of everything you mention only Airbending and Spiritbending are actual Bending Elements. Atomic is literally what they already do, just 1 level bigger, Void doesn't exist, literally, Space is impossible since it's not an element, Gravity seems to be part of Air or Spirit bending, Light and Dark Bending are the same thing and would fall under Firebending and Energy Bending is just an alternate name for Spirit Bending.
Blood bending doesn’t necessarily make you evil. You can be a bloodbender that captures bloodbenders. It’s like using snipers to counter other snipers. It’s not the method that is evil, it’s the individual yielding that skill.
Correction *both Aang and Korra both used spirit projection as well as Jinora. The only difference was the fact that Aang couldn’t be seen because the portals were closed !!! Jinora and Korra were able to be seen because the portals were open. Now some may argue that Korra purely bent energy while projecting her spirit. But remember that’s EXACTLY how spirit projection operates. It’s merging both the element of air with spiritual bending. And how dare you not state how plant bending is an extension of blood bending. It requires the same skill. To bend the water in a living thing, forcing your will over that in which is being manipulated.. also the difference between Combustion Man and P’li, was that P’li was shown to curve her combustion beams. A skill that Combustion Man did not have. Also Roku was literally shown lava bending but wasn’t noted as one of the four characters mentioned, to carry the skill. But that’s me nick-picking. And can we stop giving the revival of the air nomads credited only to harmonic convergence. Let’s make it loud and clear.. okay.. the revival of the air nomads occurred ONLY because Korra decided to leave the portals open, ultimately connecting both worlds together. Allowing a balance to occur through out the shift of HARMONIC CONVERGENCE.. literally in the title, it harmonically converged both physical and spiritual realms, if the portals were kept closed the convergence would have remained divided. Get with the program people. Other than that great video. 😊

Pretty good. Although there's also smoke bending. In the animated series, one of the past avatars used it with his old friend (I forget their names). As well as smoke bending being hinted/brought up in comics
Know I'm late but they shouldn't be able to bloodbend, since the iron in the blood is too little and too pure to actually do anything with it. We've seen earthbenders being incapable of bending pure metal before so... I don't think they'd be able to do it.
could you bend glass, wood, or like plastic...... or with those being said could you use two benders to create something that we would need both sides to truly create
glass is earth bending, wood is plantbending and plastic is no. It's a synthetic material, not a mineral, so nothing bends it. but using 2 different benders to create something that needs multiple elements is clever. I dub it Fusionbending.
What I wanted to happen with korra was korra and aang overlapped because azula shot Aang with lightning he technically died so I thought korra was born when he was shot with lightning I could imagine it would be amazing with raava being split in half I could only imagine the ideas and amazing story!
you actually forgot a couple. theres also some bending forms that overlap between other elements. so cloudbending, used in the episode "The Fortuneteller", is a form of bending that both airbenders and waterbenders can use. also sandbending, both earthbenders and airbenders can bend sand in one way or the other. i would count lavabending as both earthbending and firebending, since avatar roku and the other avatar who used lavabending are firebenders. theres more but i cant be bothered to write about all of them
I'd almost categorize these forms of bending as tertiary rather than secondary. Obviously the four primary elements are earth, water, fire, and air, but there's subvariants of those like sandbending, mudbending, "plantbending" or whatever you'd call what the swamp guys were doing, and manipulation of ice and steam. There's also hypothetical forms of bending, like if an earthbender can manipulate sand, and both earthbenders and waterbenders can manipulate mud, you'd expect someone to be able to do the same for clay, since it contains both earth and water.
You are forgetting the 2 other versions of Water-bending. Swamp-bending (which is basically similiar as Bloodbending, but for plants) and Ice-bending ( creating ice is not somehting all water-benders can do and it creates coldness, but those who can create it in any environment (only northern and southern water benders could do it.). Earthbending has Sand-bending (which isn't something any earth bender can do. Like swamp and ice bending they are general region variants of where the bender lives). One could say Asuka's Blue-Fire-bending was also a unique form of fire-bending (since it was a stronger version and no one else could use it, but sadly that one was never really explored in the show, so who knows).
Also forgotten: Avatar Yangchen has a bending ability called bending assisted screaming. This ability allows her to produce powerful blasts of wind and screams that are strong enough to deafen people from close range.
There are quite a few errors here. One of which is that Roku could lavabend and that Xu Ping An was straight up killed by Kyoshi when she dropped him from a high altitude to make an example of him to his followers in their Lei Tai.
In the comic book “Toph Beifongs Metalbending Academy” they introduced a new lava bender who’s name is Sun. Toph tracks him down and invites him to stay at the academy with her and her other students.
I wonder if you completely mastered your main bending style and also mastered your sub bending skills would you be able to potentially bend anything? For earth benders - once you have mastered earth, metal, space and lava I wonder if you can find minerals in the water and theoretically move the water itself thru the mineral. Same goes for embers / ashes. If the swamp benders can bend vines it makes me think this is VERY possible.
question: don't sand bending and energy bending exist? sand bending, believe it or not, can be as deadly as earth bending if you use it correctly. Energy bending isn't like fire where you send it at the enemy, but I think that taking away the bending of another is quite powerful, wouldn't you think?
Two things forgotten: Earth: sand bending and Fire: energy reading. They can actually do some (spiritual) healing with it too, according to the Kyoshi books.

I mean lavabending can probably be achieved by an Avatar even without using the subbending, by straight up using two bendings at once
Logically you are correct. Makes no sense that Lava bending is strictly an Earth style. Should be Fire + Earth.

Imagine if an avatar would learn ALL types of secondary bending!
Or a second avatar state. The first being the one we know already that allows you to use the skill and power of every Avatar before you.
And a second one that unlocks all bending techniques and the skills to use them. But it doesn't allow you to tap into the overwhelming power of the first one. It only unlocks all sub bending techniques.
You can't use both Avatar states at the same time.
@@JamesLard32 The whole point of the Avatar state is that you do have access to the total combined power of all previous Avatars, along with all their memories. So, the current Avatar can always use the bending all other Avatars mastered. Not to mention, the Avatar state pseudo-ressurrects all previous Avatars in the current Avatars body.
That's why it's considered the most powerful skill of the Avatar, because they become godlike. The reason they don't use it though is because the Avatar permanently dies if killed in the Avatar State.

Hello, I would like to share my elemental analysis from both shows. These specific aspects make the show more interesting to me since they’re digging more on the depth and science of the elements, which is the show’s key feature, and how even the character of benders could affect (or improve) their bending. Each element on how it was used, how it was controlled, and how it was understood, was based on the essence of the element. Like how earth benders are more stiff, water benders more fluid, air benders more free, and fire benders more aggressive. Anyway, check out more below to see my extractions and observations on each element.
Special Bending:
Water - Blood (Element of Change - The challenge is adapting to density - improve the capability of the element)
Earth - Metal (Element of Substance - The challenge is sensing scattered earth -connect with the element)
Fire - Lightning (Element of Power - The challenge is controlling concentrated energy - increase the intensity of the element)
Air - Flight (Element of Freedom - The challenge is independence from attachments - become the element)
Sub Bending Skills:
Through Change of forms and phases; Isolation of expression; Extraction; Molecular movement and manipulation
Water - Ice, Mist, Plants
Earth - Crystals, Sand, Lava
Fire - Combustion, Heat
Air - Pressure, Sound
(More under complementary and intermediate elements)
Spiritual Bending Specific Skills:
Achievable through the bender’s - Character, Personality, Meditation, Practice and Training
Water - Healing [including to the spirits] (You are able to change the quality and state of the object)
Earth - Seismic Sense (You are able to connect and feel what it's like to be the element)
Fire - Energy Reading (You are able to detect energy and chi connections)
Air - Astral Projection (You become free in space as your form doesn't hinder you)
Complementary and Intermediate Elements:
(In Favor = More Dominant in Control)
Complementary -
Fire and Water - Steam (In favor of Water; Water benders could bend the water molecules while Fire benders could take control of the heat of the molecules.)
Earth and Air - Sand (In favor of Earth; It is a light element that can have space between earth molecules for air molecules to occupy, giving air benders a little bit of control. So both elements can, at least for air, move sand)
Intermediates -
Fire and Air - Gas (In favor of Fire; Air benders can control the air molecules while Fire benders can control the kinetic energy of the molecules)
Earth and Fire - Lava (In favor of Earth; Originally before LOK they're a shared element the avatar could control through earth and fire. Earth can move the substance while fire is responsible for the heating of the earth.)
Water and Earth - Mud (In favor of Water; Since they are heterogenous, the earth in mud moves the water, while moving the water also moves the earth)
Water and Air - Vapor (In Favor of Air; Water benders can bend the water molecules in vapor state while Air benders could bend the air molecules around the water to move the water molecules, or the gaseous state of water itself.)

Can you airbend the Oxygen out of someone's lungs?
Yes
Yes, they did in the show.
Indubitably
Yes
Yepp, Zaheer air bended the oxygen out of the Earth Queen
Remember that a bloodbender is picking you up by your veins and they run through pretty much every milimeter of your body.
i KNOW i just did not hear him call princess yue princess you 🤦♀️
I'd want to see how they can adapt when they uncover all 80 some-odd natural chemical elements, such as a water bender also being able to bend air since both contain oxygen, and earth benders also being able to blood-bend due to the iron in the human blood-stream.

Agreed
He's rebuilding the Air Nation, but he's doing it militaristically, trying to assert himself as the world's new Avatar as he forces them into peace (his goals are all worthwhile, he's just doing them wrong)
Edit: I'm also not 100% that a combustion bender isn't a fire bender that's learned some air bending techniques (another of the stories ideas)
I've always thought Lavabending was a rare form of firebendin.
Lava is in a way really hot liquid dirt as for fire is really hot anything else except dirt. Like you cannot put a brick on fire.
My favorite is lava bending. Also can we agree the greatest fight in all of the Avatar universe was Zuko and Azula's Agni Kai?
Yeah it was amazing
I really wanted Sound-Bending (or Wave-Bending) to be a subset of airbending so bad in LoK.
if it ever got continued i wouldn't be surprised.
@@MorganSaph
1) This is a make-believe show about magic.
You forgot to add :
Ice bend
Plant bend
Fog bend
Mud bending
Sand bending
Lightning redirection
Flight
Since it is my childhood wish to levitate, any form of air bending is my favorite. Water's healing and earh's sensing the earth's vibrations are very cool also. I like the creative ways of each bending. For example, Zuko's uncle once heated water by fire bending which is very useful.
I think people forget that Ice bending is kinda also a second form of bending.
But it’s kinda not tho
Well in a way yes, it's just that it seemingly is shared between all water benders, thus considered as a part of waterbending rather than a sub bending style

This thumbnail is almost perfect. Only one strand out of place

Get with the program people.

you actually forgot a couple. theres also some bending forms that overlap between other elements. so cloudbending, used in the episode "The Fortuneteller", is a form of bending that both airbenders and waterbenders can use. also sandbending, both earthbenders and airbenders can bend sand in one way or the other. i would count lavabending as both earthbending and firebending, since avatar roku and the other avatar who used lavabending are firebenders. theres more but i cant be bothered to write about all of them
"Princess Yu's" it's YUWEY, but I think it's spelled Yue
You and the whole of the comments section of this video is angry about that for literally no other reason but to be smart and point out what they did
Secondary bending exists because the separation of the elements is an illusion
have you.... actually watched the show? I get the feeling you haven't watched the show, and are just reading a script somebody else made.
My favorite is either the untethered flight or healing abilities
0:31 - What about sandbending?
Kind of interesting to see how some people consider icebending a sort of secondary waterbending while some do not (and don't even think of it!)
Also forgotten: Avatar Yangchen has a bending ability called bending assisted screaming. This ability allows her to produce powerful blasts of wind and screams that are strong enough to deafen people from close range.
14:44 love the iroh quote

In the comic book “Toph Beifongs Metalbending Academy” they introduced a new lava bender who’s name is Sun. Toph tracks him down and invites him to stay at the academy with her and her other students.
so technically you could say there are 5 confirmed lava benders. a second that may still be alive in the Korra series besides Bolton
Bolin*
6 because Avatar Roku can lavabend.
