James E. Pepper 1776 Bourbon Review (and The Irishman bottle-age experiment)

- Rex & Daniel try a revival of one of the oldest marketed whiskeys in the U.S., and also run an experiment of a new bottle vs. a 4-year-old, half-empty bottle of the same release (for science).
Fun Facts: 1776 bourbon originally was produced in 1780 (mid-Revolution) and was popularized in the late 1800s by James E. Pepper, grandson of the original proprietor, renowned horseman/stable owner, and the man who supposedly introduced the Old Fashioned to New York City. This was also one of the first bottles of whiskey to use the "strip stamp" across the cork as a way to deter tampering and watering down, a dangerous con that was prevalent prior to the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897. During Prohibition, 1776 Bourbon was one of the few spirits that continued to be sold as "medicine" at roughly 6x the cost.
Big thanks to TITAN of Whiskey William Schappert for the bottle. All hail.
“I’ll go look” should become the new intro line. Classic
Bring on the ads. No more COVID casualties!
Save your bastard employees!!!! I’ll click on every add you guys have to help out! It’s the least we can do for these years of amazing free content!!
If you guys make a video loop for ten hours filled with ads I'll run that video overnight for the MBs.
That Titan animation....every time it just gets better and better!
I'll be honest, if need be put 5 minutes of ads on the front, and for this I'll watch em twice to keep this going.
Speaking personally anything over ten minutes I just set down on the table and let play on principle. If you’re gonna sell your nutraceuticals line for an hour in a UA-cam ad go ahead. Give Google your money for no reason.
WOOT! Thanks for the review you MB's... Keep up the good work... I didn't wait to try the bottle, I really liked it. That is all :)
As the titan intro between Rex and Daniel evolves, it had turned into my favorite thing on the channel.
"To lose 1/4th of your workforce is a problem" I hear that. Cheers we will watch the ads. Its worth it.
sprayed my coffee at "ill go look"
Ads yes. Keep fancy Dan employed!
The 1776 Bourbon has become a new daily of mine. Loving it
“I hear things” and “I’ll go look” 😂😂😂
this is i think the only channel i will actively be leaving the ads to play, respect what you guys are doing for everyone during this year
I trust you all with the ads... besides, anyone who dresses like Rex can't be rolling in too much cash.
Please do anything you guys can do to save every one at your business. As a fan of not only the videos but the wizard acadamy Inknow im not the only.one who would love to help . Monetize the channel, put links in the video for donations , do what ever needed . You have a strong family base and yalls honesty and transparency is great. You have a crowd funded distillery USE THE CROWD we love you guys.
That was a good question & a good experiment 👍🏻🥃
The Titan clip is definitely one of the best things I have ever seen on UA-cam! You guys are f@#$ing AMAZING! The reviews are good as well.😆
TITANS OF WISKEY MUSIC.....Rex: "......What is that in the distance? " Daniel: "I'll go look!" wanders out of frame. HA! Funniest throwaway line ever!
Gotta be the best intro I’ve ever seen in my life!🤣Ending..
Cheers🥃👋🏽💀🇺🇸
Guys, run ads, do what you gotta do. I love the channel and have learned quite a bit.
Sweet, thanks. Was waiting for this one 🤙🤙🤘
Just let the ads be relevant to the channel and I am happy to take 1 min out for them :)
I'm thinking they won't have much input in the actual ads - that's all done by UA-cam.
@@ArcheryTalkVideo Yeah, I wish UA-cam would let creators match up advertisers appropriate with their content, like they let advertisers opt out of certain creator content. Or better yet, let viewers set their own preferences and the ad slot adjusts based on who is watching.
Please no political ads. Otherwise, do what you have to do. Keep the lights on and bills paid.
You guys are providing free entertainment and free information, bring on the ads, no arguments from me.
Question on the ads, is there more revenue generated if we watch the full ad, or is it the same when skipping them? Want to make sure you guys are getting the most from my inaction
I would like to know this as well
YOU GET PAID MY VIEW OR BY INTERACTION, THE LAST ONE ITS WHEN SOMEONE CLICKS DE ADD OR WATCH IT FULL, AND IT'S BETTER PAID
1776 is my favorite whiskey on the market. Well priced and great taste. Their rye is great too.
@ Carl Olsen... Went to get their Bourbon, the store was out. Remembered your comment and bought their Rye, glad they were out of the Bourbon. The Rye is an incredible value! Going back for a couple more tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!
@@plane-o-1292 I went to total wine near me and bought 2 bottles of the regular rye and got the sherry cask version as well at $45. I hope it becomes more regularly available. But I'm glad my comment came in handy!
Better than Eagle Rare?
@@ADSCP just as good in my opinion and half the price. But maybe the price makes it taste better 🤣
Best animation yet, bravo chaps
You guys should start selling merchandise as well for some extra security
I am totally ok with you doing Ad's. If someone needs a paycheck, I'm all for it.
100% put that adds on ! The best UA-cam whiskey channel content deserves to be monetized!
Bring on the ads! don't mind at all. if LTT can have ads before the vid, at the start in the vid itself, motions of LTTstore throughout , a sponsor mention at the end and sometimes midroll or ads at the very end, you guys can turn on some ads. If there is anything else we can do please don't hesitate to let us know. I think I speak for the tribe when I say we want this thing to keep rolling and will support you as much as we possibly can. Cheers you MB's!
Add’s. No problem! Love this channel.
I’ll gladly watch adds to keep The Laphroaig Queen (Emma) employed!!! Also very sad it wasn’t on the wall😢
Ahhh, memories. Also, Irishmen! Nice and peachy.
I, for one, fully support you guys if you do adverts.
Just tried Pepper last month. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised!
The 1776 rye in sherry barrels is incredible, just bought a bottle of it and it immediately became my favorite.
Finally! This is an awesome bourbon!!
Daniel’s excited indifference to a Titan is absolutely fantastic 😂
Almost picked up a bottle of Pepper last week. I'll have to give it a try.
Haven't had their Bourbon yet, but their Rye is fantastic
Wow. I'm just drinking this very fine bourbon, and Master Rex utters "it reminds me of Teeling". Exactly! Congratulations, I would never in my life fathomed that out.
Could it be!? I'll go look. lol well played!
I commented on yesterday's video about being in a hotel with no whisk(e)y only having wine.
Tonight I am yet again in a hotel unexpectedly to me but..I have whisk(e)y! Its bog standard good ole Jack Daniel's but I've got it!
Cheers friends!
I believe it is from Bardstown Bourbon Company. They were doing work for James E Pepper when we toured
Super-interesting. I've always been a fan of this bourbon and it's definitely changed recently. It is WAY less rye-forward. I didn't know that they started distilling (actually I didn't realized they sourced from MGP).
Fellas, if you make more money from unskippable ads, make em unskippable. I'll still watch just as much as I always do, I'll just take 15-30 second breaks.
Call em pour breaks.
Greatest intro I've ever seen 😂
Just found out that yall are from Austin... This makes me so happy
Definitely a new sub
I love the Rye. Cheers.
I have a special connection with that 1776 bourbon. We had picked up our 1st bottle of it the same week that my old dog passed away, so we drank through it with friends toasting my boy. Unfortunately, we don't find it often, but when we do we grab it and raise a glass to my boy.
Thats how you take care of your own, 100% agree
I got sweet rolls/dessert bread on the front that has an oak body to it that rounds out. Very unique flavor. It reminds me a bit of the way a rum gets those cool, deep sugar yeast flavors almost.
Adds will not stop any that watch you guys!
Having some watching this. My bottle says Lexington KY.
The Bottle Lord tune & the camera angle makes seem like we're about to on an adventure with Sir Chicken Digby Ceasar.
Do the Rye gentleman. I Rep their brand and the Bourbon is tasty but the Rye is even better. Great video!!
I been eyeing up the James E Pepper ryes lately.
Wasnt aware that this channel was not monetized. Been watching since before I was even able to drink and recently fell back inlove with this all. Do whatever you can to stick around!
Man the titan intro never gets old. Love it
Bring on the ads, will gladly watch
They also produce Strong-Ale and Stout beers aged in their Rye Barrels. Very good Beers! High in ABV for beer.
My wife just slapped me, I asked her what an illery is, she asked why and I told her there is a nudist illery opening near us and wasn't sure if we should go...
Ads for everyone! Huzzah! No really, ads are fine! Thanks for the great reviews!
Whiskey barrel finished rainwater? Your plants must love you.
Does it matter if we skip the ads, or do need to watch them through? I want to know what's best for you guys!
We need "Show Me The Proof" shirts for/from Rex. His top question asked per bottle!
The more I see the enormity of the vault the more I'd like to donate my time to the facility..I mean what's the downside..Texas weather, see Rex a lot(?), maybe Emma(:)), and whisky! Hello Daniel.
The Schap truly is a whiskey titan.
You guys should do a comparison of westward American single malt and balcones Texas bock. Very similar I’ve found and both use an ale yeast!
I didn't even notice you guys didn't even have ads... I guess I watch too much youtube and can never remember which channels do ads and which don't
I love this intro omg XD
Once you turn on the monetization of this channel I'm starting at episode 1 and going to run through the entire catalog of videos.
I’ve been going though then all over lockdown. Shame the monetisation wasn’t on earlier
@@charlyreed7474 you will have to start them again and take more notes this time.
I will say I have had remarkably different experiences with the same whiskey between neck pour and after it opening up. Like there was no sweetness or fruit notes in the first pour but a week or so later and 2 or 3 pours it opened waaay up (happened with John J Bowman single barrel, and Baker's Single Barrel).
Would that go away when you flip the bottle once before you open it as to mix the neck with the rest?
Just a thought
@@TheHighlandSounds i think it has more to do with the amount of time (and the amount of whiskey) that has been exposed to new air and oxidized. So shaking a bottle before the first pour won't change it.
Awesome video. Bring on the ads
Hey guys, sorry if this was asked already, but I haven't seen it.
You've talked about aging in Texas vs. Scotland, and the differences.
With age "rounding" out the rough edges, but the "fast" aging of Texas; what would happen if you started an aging in Texas, and let it finish slower in Scotland, or vice-versa?
Would you get more flavor, with more rounded edges...or something similar....or would it just turn to crap?
By the way, you BOTH rock, but Daniel needs to do a video in hot pink one of these days...Rex, you're just a polished flipping skipping stone,or a polished turd....not sure which, keep it up!
Monetize it all and the playlist shall run
I typically don't skip the shorter adds. From now on if it's a 10 minute add I'll go drop a deuce.
Luv both of these expression. Always have a bottle of 1776 in the house. ?? Is you allow adds on the Tribe channel as well .. can we help 2 employees?? I'm willing. Luv this channel and community ❤️❤️
When it comes to A B comparing open whiskey and new bottle, is it possible that such a slight difference in the two may be explained by batch difference more so then the time open in a bottle? Even for large brands a slight difference may happen batch to batch.
Let the ads commence for the magnificent bastards and we will keep on watching. 2020 has done weirder shit haha
Non-chill filtered too if I’m not mistaken
I said I won't mind ads but I pay for UA-cam premium anyway so I guess I really don't care lol. Whatever is best for the channel, I love you guys!
youtube channel I like turns on ads after four years of not only free but ad-free content? yea that's fine guys thanks for letting us know.
When I saw James E. Pepper on the shelves; when it first appeared as a sourced indie re-imagined brand; it was pretty rough. Pepper was appropriate.
Rex says "steel trap". Yep, nothing in and nothing out. LOL
Guys do you not sell T shirts? To generate cash? love the channel no problems with the adds
Long live Whisk[e]y Vault! Go ads.
That intro 🤣🤣
If ads gonna help you guys, by all means :) not only did you guys give good insight on whisky, but also make us laugh (at least me lol). Cheers guys!!!! (raising Carlyle Whisky!) :D I am not a magnificent, but poor bastard hAHhAHahhaH :D sorry!
Is there any benefit for us watching the entire ad? Like do you guys get more money if we watch the full ad instead of skipping?
Ok so I been watching this channel for like almost a year and I have a question. I'm looking for a bigginers bourbon...something that's easy to drink not to harsh...give me some recommendations please. Thanks
You guys need to try their 100 proof rye
Would it be possible to do Zoom tastings or... Twitch classes or something like that? I know some folks are doing live streamed classes. Idk about sending samples, but me thinx the community would ante up for a class.
What would you guys want us to do with the adds to optimize the revenue?
Also, have you considered Patreon, and/or merch? Would totally support you, and buy Glencairns with your logo etc. I would love to have some option to support you through this Rona thing, if possible within your non-profit.
Hmmmm....may have to hunt some down for the hubbie. 🥃
The next time that Daniel forgets to wear the medallion, Fancy Dan should add it in editing....
Would help if you lads could put your Patreon information on the show notes under the video. My ad blocker won't let me view your ads.
If you take and keep one bottle from the vault, what would you take?
Rex better get comfortable in the dog house. :P
James E. Pepper has an excellent Rye
