You guys are excellent. I really appreciate the quality this channel puts out for the little subscribers that it has. This is among my favorite channels, and I thank you for bringing something really special to the table.
May 1, 2019. I am drinking the Balcones Baby Blue as I watch this and really like it but find it difficult to describe. Three days exploring Texas Whisky distilleries was too short. I hope to be back soon!
Finally got some. My brother-in-law and I drove 113 miles from Philly to the middle of Maryland. I was searching couple years for it. They had five bottles, we left with those five bottles and more.
Do you think it's the Texas heat bringing the whiskey into the barrel more that gives it such a dark color? Don't think I've ever seen a whiskey so dark before. Also, how readily available is Balcones? I've tried looking for it based off your videos but I live on the West Coast and can't seem to find it locally.
Absolutely it's the Texas heat that forces the whisky into the barrel a lot more than cooler climates. You'll have a hard time finding unless you're close to a BevMo. And even then, you'll likely only get the Single Malt.
You guys should do one on Gentleman Jack. It was my first whiskey, it started me on my path as a whiskey connoisseur, and I'd love your opinion on it. I bought it for a friend as a last minute birthday present on the way to the party, mostly on the strength of how the bottle looked. A few years later, we became roommates, and I found the bottle still in his collection, almost untouched. Apparently my judgment of him as a whiskey guy was completely wrong! Eventually I poured myself a glass of it straight, and was wow'd by the experience. The smell, the bite, the distinct taste, it made having a drink much more of an experience that it had ever been before! Anyways, if you read this, then know that I look forward to your videos every day. Cheers, slàinte, or as we say on my Ukrainian side, Za zdorovie!
Actually, a TN whiskey comparison would be interesting, stack a Jack up against a Dickel, maybe get a Prichards and/or Bell Meade in there as well. Dickel single barrel is comparable in price to Gentleman Jack, and I like it better (though Gentleman Jack is still quite nice.)
Found this for the first time in Tulsa and I love this bottle! I’m a Native Texan (Corpus Christi) and am a big proponent of Balcones. Their stuff is amazing. I’d love to send you guys some Oklahoma whiskeys, and to find a way to promote some Crowded Barrel here in NE Oklahoma!
I like the Balcones Baby Blue corn whiskey - like drinking Werther's candy. I'm new to smoky whiskey, but the Balcones Brimstone was like being kicked in the back and falling face-first into a raging bonfire. It took me an hour to shake the house-fire taste in my mouth.
So I realized one of my local whiskey shops has BALCONES 2 out of 4 whiskeys, so I had to come back to double check to see the review on them! And when I come back nearly a year back - I come back to Rex talking about touching the tip of Daniel's Iceburg
I think a small amount of water improves Scotch. In my experience, however, water only makes bourbon harsh. Maybe because it diminishes the sweetness? (Damn...I dropped my dictionary and now my speling maye suffar.)
hahahahaha. Spelling is the worst..... Yeah, I think water affects every whisky differently. I find it varies wildly even inside each category. The only solution is more experimentation!
They can be. Most often you have heaters more than AC. If it drops below 45F, the whisky stops aging, so you'll sometimes see heaters in large barrel houses. Not always the big guys because they have can just wait it out. But the smaller craft guys are more constrained and have to make every minute count. But in the summer, warehouses typically just use airflow to cool it down vs AC.
Could not find this exact one. but i did find: Balcones Brimstone: 264$ in Denmark Balcones 1: 264$ in Denmark Balcones True Blue 100 proof: 303$ in Denmark. That is some high end stuff :)
What the hell are you speaking of Chancellor Daniel. Baby Blue kicks ass. It is great in the Hot Toddy. I was sick now because of the Baby Blue, nothing else, I'm not. Lol
Just bought my first bottle of Baby Blue. It will not be my last. But I don't get the "candy corn". I at a couple of pieces of candy corn afterwards and Baby Blue is better.
Never sipped whiskey before looking for flavor and the only whiskeys I've ever drank were the main men in the game lol. Shooting and chasing or mixing drinks. Not a fan of that jd, even Williams, Jim beam taste so its hard to want to try. I bought a bottle of baby blue corn and sat down and forced myself to try and sip whiskey for flavor. I had no problem drinking this stuff it was sssoooooooo good lol. Now I am looking forward to experiencing the new flalvors awaiting me out there. Thank you balcones
Is it just my imagination, or are you guys getting zannier? Either way, it's fine. Just curious. Are you guys more comfortable in front of the camera now than in your initial videos? More under the influence before you begin recording nowadays? A bit of both? Again, no judgement here. Just inquisitive. Whatever it is, keep it up. I enjoy the silliness and the commentary, even if I'm not a practicing lush.
My day job revolves around cameras. Always comfortable around them. At the start, I was concerned about being too bombastic / overbearing / distracting to Daniel's expertise. Turns out, he can hold his own - so the gloves are off.
It was "How did I get here? " who made that comment. Not sure on the mixup from Rex. I think Root Beer because "IBC" is all I see when I look at your UA-cam handle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBC_Root_Beer
I was told that added water separates the alcohol and floats it on top, thus your first drink after adding water will be straight alcohol. Then the ACV drops after that initial drink.
You ever hear the story about how he found out the master distiller's name? Daniel can correct me if I'm wrong, but that master distiller moved into the house next to Daniel's childhood home, less than a year after Daniel moved out of town. They know all the same people in the neighborhood, and he tracked Daniel down through mutual facebook friends. Small world.
Yes, that story is totally correct. I got a friend request on Facebook, and it was Jared saying, "hey man. I'm the guy whose name you can't remember". ;-)
You guys are excellent. I really appreciate the quality this channel puts out for the little subscribers that it has. This is among my favorite channels, and I thank you for bringing something really special to the table.
Thanks, Eldon!

A police officer caught two kids playing with a firework and a car battery. He charged one and let the other one off.
Terribly neglected joke.
These videos always get me in a good mood :P
Us too.
Rex does his impression of a drunk Rick Flair. Whoooo!
So basically, a standard Rick Flair.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got Rick Flair :-) Maybe it's an Alberta thing...
Texas entreprenuers are torching the whiskey and wine industries, innovations and flavors are growing every year.
Just got my first two bottles of Balcones. Waiting for Saturday night.
Is it strange that I'm more excited to learn about glassware than I am about expensive whiskey? If it is, go away Rex, if not, wooooooo thanks Daniel!
Not strange at all. Rex is the strange one.
Finally got some. My brother-in-law and I drove 113 miles from Philly to the middle of Maryland. I was searching couple years for it. They had five bottles, we left with those five bottles and more.
Im just rewatching as my family in Texas has finally decided to send me some different Balcones options here in Hawaii. Can't wait
man... thanks for the review! never had Balcones. always wanted to try. now this makes me want to try even more.
Texas represent! The Balcones distillery is phenomenal, if you haven't had the pleasure, I'd highly recommend it.
This was my wedding bourbon. Great day. Great bourbon.
one of my favorite openings
Hahaha hits him twice with the old Nature Boy "Woooooo!"
That was pretty freaking loud at the start. I was on full blast as well.
Just tried this yesterday thanks to Flaviar. Lots of cereal notes

I do my whiskey shopping at bevmo and occasionally at total wine. Haven't been able to find any locally yet but Ima keep looking.
@@charlieghague I know this is old but, if you ever pass through Bakersfield I'm pretty sure Westchester liquors carries them.
Wow, ask and ye shall receive. I just asked on Friday for more Balcones products and here it is! That's what I call service!
Hahaha! Sorry for misjudging your relationship status guys.
You are forgiven.
I'd love to try the Balcones blue corn "bourbon" but I can't find it anywhere...and I'm in Texas!

We'll do it! Love all kinds and options on this one. Thanks for the kind words, sir. ;-)

Where the fuck you finding this in tulsa. I just moved up there from Houston and haven't found a store worth a fkn damn.
I like the Balcones Baby Blue corn whiskey - like drinking Werther's candy.

us too
I recently killed a bottle of this and can definitively say this is my all time favorite bourbon, absolute flavor bomb.
The magic of corn.
Haven't tried this yet, but after watching your review, I will see if I can make it my next dram.

I completely agree with you Luis. I've never had much luck adding water to bourbon. It always ends up more alcoholic to me and loses its complexity.
Can I even buy this anywhere? I'm in Las Vegas, NV.
Are the rooms where the barrels of whiskey are aged temperature Controlled?
They can be. Most often you have heaters more than AC. If it drops below 45F, the whisky stops aging, so you'll sometimes see heaters in large barrel houses. When I look online it says the Baby Blur Corn is 46% am I looking at the wrong whiskey?
Could not find this exact one. but i did find:
Balcones Brimstone: 264$ in Denmark
Balcones 1: 264$ in Denmark
Balcones True Blue 100 proof: 303$ in Denmark.

Holy crap
What the hell are you speaking of Chancellor Daniel. Baby Blue kicks ass. It is great in the Hot Toddy. I was sick now because of the Baby Blue, nothing else, I'm not.
Lol
I have yet to be able to get my friends who have stockpiles of good whiskies to let me mooch. Teach me your secrets Rex!
Great video, could u please do more macallan's
Will do!
Just bought my first bottle of Baby Blue. It will not be my last. But I don't get the "candy corn". I at a couple of pieces of candy corn afterwards and Baby Blue is better.
Yahoo thing got me lmao. I believe he can sing in real life
Whats the green and white bottle far left next to the Deanston 12?
Ballechin 10yr from Edradour: www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/edradour/edradour-ballechin-10-year-old-whisky/

have you done a vid on Johnnie walker green label yet if not can u do one
Not yet! I'll work on adding it in.
Should have pulled Bookers for comparison too! Let's see a Bookers video.
I was trying to keep Rex reigned in. for his own safety.

Who knows. Maybe we're just running out of non-ridiculous things to say.
My day job revolves around cameras. Always comfortable around them. At the start, I was concerned about being too bombastic / overbearing / distracting to Daniel's expertise. Turns out, he can hold his own - so the gloves are off.
The zany never stops.
holy shit rex said smoother
Just the Tip!
yeah, that comment wasn't me and I was the graduation guy. 🤔
my speeling is impeceble
Yeah, all I could think during the video was "root beer". ;-)
Wizard Academy so who commented that if it wasn't me? 🤔
also root beer? I mean hell I love root beer, but I don't think I've ever brought that up in the comments here
It was "How did I get here? " who made that comment. Not sure on the mixup from Rex.

The spice is "cardamom" non cardaman... Oh wait did I just pull a Rex move by correcting everything someone says?
It's cardamam!!
8:48 mark
You keep making me paranoid I missed bleeping a cuss word.
I wouldn't do that to you man!
So my question is, does Daniel know the master distiller's name yet?
Heheheheh. Apparently, Daniel only bothers to learn someone's name after they give him a bunch of whiskey.
Oh, I was referencing the LAST Balcones you guys did where he couldn't remember the name of the master distiller and he felt really bad about it.
You ever hear the story about how he found out the master distiller's name? Daniel can correct me if I'm wrong, but that master distiller moved into the house next to Daniel's childhood home, less than a year after Daniel moved out of town. Dude, that's awesome!
Yes, that story is totally correct. I got a friend request on Facebook, and it was Jared saying, "hey man. I'm the guy whose name you can't remember". ;-)
Hine
45? Are you a woman ? ?? :)
