patch 3 astarion confession scene (updated) | baldur's gate 3

- I have been replaying the game (since I abandoned my first playthrough) and noticed that they have greatly updated astarion's facial expressions as well as tav's during the interaction.
He now looks sadder and more conflicted compared to the awkward expressions he and tav had when the game first came out. Tav, thankfully, doesn't make a stupid face anymore like before and I also wanted to upload this again because my tav (Isla) actually looks pretty now beacuse m0ds lel.
I added daphne's theme as background music like I did in my playlist for this segment because it sounds fitting, I think.
NOTE: I don't mean any disrespect to Borislav Slavov who made the music for the game, I absolutely love the in-game music but for some reason, this scene has the ambient shadowlands music despite it being a romance scene. I don't know if it's a glitch that happens for me or if that's how it's meant to be, it takes me out of the immersion but that's just a preference. Anyway, enjoy!

Yes and show him how we look him. Especially as he hasn’t seen how he looks like for like 200 years….
i highly recommend the fanfic kindred on ao3, it has all of it and more. (the highest ranked one in bg3 fandom)
He is more expressive now. I love it 🥺 his mimics, the little closeup shots... GOD I MISS HIM 😢

I actually love the little fists his hands make before hugging us. It's almost like he's forcing himself to accept a genuine moment for himself rather than the artificial ones like he's used to.

the worst part of this scene, well actually there's two. 1: the hug doesn't last long enough 2: not having the astarion approves when he already has maximum approval.
Hahah, I was around 80+ approval here haha, I like him disapproving every now and again because it helps get some snakry dialogue out of him and I get to play how I want lol

yeah the hug needed to last longer - lingering maybe an extra 5-10 secs. And yeah i didn't get the Astarion approves at all because I was already at 100.
This new dialogue makes the "Maybe what you need is a friend, not a lover" line make SO much more sense. Originally it sounded like a total friendzone moment.
I chose that option originally, but when he called me "friend" on our next interaction I rolled back that save! I had thought it friendzoned me!

I really wish they made that hug last just 2 or 3 seconds longer but I love that this scene doesn't lead to just more sex with Astarion because it makes his romance feel more intimate
Now that I think about it, if there's an option to ask the romance companion if you can kiss them, there should be one for a hug, too.

Astarion is too precious. I would shower him in the love and affection he deserves. Even without sex he is deserving of true love and intimacy.

OMG This is so cuuuute 🥺 I am still at medium approval, I feel like romancing him is way harder than the others. I sure hope I'll make it to the hug scene eventually!!!
Don't stress too much, just have fun, he likes that. I always do a good playthrough and it's easy to get around 80+ by beginning of act 2 by just taking the piss every now and again.

I still can't decide which scene I like more, this one or the one that takes place after the drow in the moon towers.
Now I'm playing for my first time, and I had a conversation after the drow, but I also really like this scene where he confesses everything.
God, both there and there are so many cool details and words, I love this game
I got both these scenes recently. The one after Moonrise Towers isn't as sweet, it's like Astarion coming more to terms with his freedom and trauma. He seems slightly more stand-offish still and maybe snarkier. If you trigger this scene before meeting the Drow it seems more sincere and emotional.
@blacksesamecandies I just got to this scene last night and I got the version after talking to the drow. I was sad not to have this exact dialogue play out. But I did enjoy the one I got. I agree it doesn't feel as romantic, but for my DU playthrough it worked. The hug and cute stuff didn't feel right in that version, but after replaying that scene a few times you can hear him say close to the same stuff. Just more snarky lol.

Really wish we could give astarion more hugs. I mean the romance stuff is great but it would be great to have more scenes with just comforting him because clearly he needs REAL love.

Mixing Astarion's confession and Syanna's soundtrack is... unusual, feels weird. They were expressing completely different feelings.
Thing is, I don't associate that theme with Syanna, (SPOILERS) the first time I ever heard it was in "A Knight's Tale" quest in Blood and Wine (I think that's what it was called at least) and I've always called it Daphne's theme, since I initially thought that was the name of the song. The quest revolves around a woman who lost the man she loved and her ghost can't be put to rest until of course Geralt comes along and sets things right. The theme plays at the ending of her quest when she gives her monologue and finally rests. It's a beautiful moment and that's why I used the song here as well as in my playlist. It sounds tragic to me and expresses a sense of longing, a woman like Syanna doesn't deserve such a beautiful theme.

Okay I didnt really get this confession. What i got was after the drow lady in moonrise towers when that lady asked Astarion to bute her and i told her to back off. He essentially said thank you to me and mentioned how he is used to people manipulating eachother. There was an option that said "is that why you slept with me to use me" he responds with yes but mentions it doesnt feel like im using you anymore and essential says the "i want this to be something real" quote. Just wondering if anyone else has got this.
Yeah, that's a confession that happens after you meet the drow (if this confession hasn't happened for you yet) This happened for me the night after Raphael tells him about the meaning of his scars. I hadn't gone to moonrise yet, but I did part of his questline and the next night, this happened.
Why this scene is better then the one we get after the drow?😢
I agree, I like this one a lot better because he says it himself, not in relation to anything. It's easy to trigger, the next night after his quest progression in ACT 2, that is, only if you haven't talked to Araj at moonrise yet.
You know it's real trust when you let him clip your hair. 😜

wtf i got so surprised when i heard the music!!! It's my favourite song from The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine!!!!! It plays during sad, grief moment like (WITCHER SPOILER FOR THE BAD ENDING) if you get a bad ending and the queen dies. Im so shocked because i havent been able to find it ANYWHERE since its not in the official soundtrack!!!! I got so startled!! You call it Daphne's theme???? But i still dont know what it is or where its origianally from, can someone pls tell me???????
edit: i just saw you say somewhere in the comments it's Syannas theme but Syana Theme is a different song on the official playlist so i still have no idea :(((
It is also called "sad crypt music" I think. I'm not sure but yes, it's also called Syanna's theme for some reason even though her theme is different on the soundtrack. Perhaps because it's a re-iteration of that one? Dunno. It's also called Daphne's theme because it first plays in the ending of the quest, "A Knight's Tale."
I'm in the middle of my fourth playthrough. I tried to romance him in my second playthrough but nothing happened. Now in my fourth run I talked to him randomly in the Goblin Camp and he confessed that he liked my Char very much. I was realy surprised...I play my char not so different like I played the others before. 🤷 maybe it's because I choose a Rogue Tav this time? I don't know. 🤔

@@bloodangel7731 awh, he's says that if you make him drink from the drow, make him sleep with you after he confessed or forced him to do things he doesn't want, or also having a very low approval does that too.

Don't go meet Araj before thus scene is triggered. This scene is usually triggered after you finish his quest in the shadowlands but only if you haven't met Araj yet. Otherwise, if you have met Araj and had that whole interaction then the other scene will trigger.
Why do you specify that it's after the 3rd patch? It was so different before? (Curiosity, i didn't see before)
I have added the reason in the description. His and Tav's expressions are very different along with the animations and movements are a lot more fluid, they've changed the camera angles too.

do you know exactly what his approval was at when this scene triggered? mine was at high/very high and i didn’t talk to araj but i never got this scene by the time i finished moonrise 😔
The scene only happens after you complete is quest in act 2. My last playthrough this scene happened for me at high approval after completing his quest and not having been to moonrise and this playthrough, (the one this video is from) I had exceptional approval with him, somewhere around 85-90.

I love that they put the option to hug him, instead of kiss. Hugs are a form of intimacy that just shows some one you care for them on a deeper level. Whenever the topic of intimacy comes up, a lot of people immediately think sex, or kissing, but to recognize the intimacy in a hug and how it brings a person a sense of security will make you prefer that.
Think about it- to truly hug someone, and embrace it means that you feel safe enough in their arms. Astarion hesitating , and then finally circling his arms around Tav shows us that he feels safe with us (even if he is the big spoon 🥹)
Is this scene new? Or can anyone tell me how to get there because I only had the scene where I hug him but he didnt confess anything like that to me, did I miss something?
It's not new, this is just the scene that happens after doing his quest in act 2 IF you haven't met Araj yet. If you met Araj and then did his quest, then you get the scene where he says "thank you."
I did met Araj (but it didnt trigger the scene) and then went to the temple of shar were we met Raphael again and he told us to kill the demon down there and then he would tell us what was written on astarions back, I rested before killing the demon and then the scene would come up but without the "I was seducing u so u wouldnt turn on me but I want us to be real" none of that came up he was just thankful that I stood up for him in front of Araj.@@bigppisha
@@Velain4477 yeah, so since you met Araj before doing his quest, you get the thank you scene after you finish his act 2 quest. I hadn't met Araj yet when I did his quest (the scene only occurs after his act 2 quest is complete) so this scene happened for me. I went to meet Araj after this confession.

When did they update this?
During the patch that came out recently, I can't remember the exact date, it think it was early October or late September? They changed around their facial expressions, Astarion now looks more sad and anxious than he did at launch and the movements are more fluid as well.

Don't talk to Araj yet at moonrise, do astarion's quest in the gauntlet first, this scene will happen one night after Raphael tells astarion what his scars mean.
Basically, if you meet Araj anytime before the confession happens, you won't get this scene but the thank you one.
