Who knew a man and his frog could change the world. Thank you Jim. You were more than we ever deserved and you are missed.
Jim Henson made a great difference with his creations, The Muppets, and more were made after he died.
Wembley's little "hi" before he starts singing is so precious.
I agree
“Hi” 💛💚💛💚
And the singer seems to be Wembley himself......
@@i.336 Steve Whitmire
I like Steve Whitmire's Kermit-green suit. He's really celebrating Jim's incredible life and the joy he brought to so many people, rather than focusing on the depressing fact that he's now dead.
Actually at this point he might already know he's inherited the role of Kermit, so I'm wondering if that partly informed his choice of suit, as well as it being a tribute to Jim.
@@MrDannyDetail I don't think he knew yet but he did soon after. Jim thought he was going to be so busy he have Steve do Kermit. He never told him though.
If it helps, Jim requested that no one wear black at his funeral--he wanted it to be a celebration of those who were still living.
@@stormcloudsabound That's how you know that he's a great man.
Jim asked everyone at his funeral to not wear black because he didn’t want it to be a sad event 🥺
I love how, even though you can see the puppeteers singing and moving the muppets, you still fully look at the muppets as the ones speaking.
Yeah
Just came here after hearing that Caroll Spinney passed away.
May he rest in peace.
Same here. He was being a class act, ducking down so others and their Muppets could be in view as well.
I saw that documentary, I Am Big Bird: The Carol Spinney Story, and I really loved it.
Dave Goelz is the only original puppeteer left in the Muppets. This video not only makes a tribute to Jim Henson, but it also makes a tribute to Richard Hunt, Jerry Nelson, and Caroll Spinney. Most of the other puppeteers retired, but Steve Whitmire was the only puppeteer that got fired.
Frank Oz?
@@Phillyd0gg Frank Oz is apparently semi-retired.
Dave Goelz, Martin P. Robinson and Karen Prell are the last ones active
To think that Richard Hunt died two years after henson is heartbreaking as well
Now there’s Kevin clash im with elmo who got fired
After Jim Henson’s death, Rowlf became a silent background character until the mid or late 1990s. I think he was supposed to retire in honor of Jim Henson, but Muppet fans wanted him back so badly.
"Kermit was alive...and so was Jim Henson." - Kevin Perjurer, DefunctTV
That little “Hi” from Wembley hurts the worst :(
By all accounts, Jim was that One Person, to everyone around him and everyone he knew. He never had to raise his voice or get angry. He just believed in you and that you wouldn't disappoint him so hard you found yourself trying as hard as you could not to.
He didn't demand excellence, he inspired it.
Why is it that I can grieve so hard for a man I never met, but yet knew so well?
Muppets, Fraggles, and Sesame Street join to say goodbye to there creator. Makes me cry every time
Then more Muppets came along after Jim Henson's death, and I love all of those fun characters.
My childhood hit me when Elmo joined in 😭😭
Same bro, the second I heard his voice I almost shed a tear.
I never knew Elmo was black until now
@@LEONIDAS-vw5mv well he got replaced in 2013
I began to cry but I feel like my heart was crying too so I cried as well.
And so we both cried. 🤧

There's something beautiful about the Muppets performing alongside the people who brought them to life.
Rest in peace, Jim Henson.
To Jim,
Thanks, for everything.
Love,
Everyone.

This comment hit me right in my feels, as it should have.
Joe
Thank you Jim.
I wish that Jim Henson arrived at the hospital earlier, and we might of still had him living. This is just a beautiful memorial by the Muppets, Jim Henson would of been proud of them. just one man, only him, believed that being a puppeteer would make everyone have a smile on there face. Rest In Muppets Jim Henson and may your soul rest in piece.
I am 60 now and still watch Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. They are both tributes to Jim's powerful message about how good humanity can be.
And Carroll Spinney joins Richard Hunt and Jim Henson on the other end of the rainbow bridge. Thank you for our childhoods, guys. Rest In Peace.
And Jerry Nelson
Man....having characters from your childhood come back and tell you you are good enough as an adult really hits hard. I'm literally 😭
You can tell their trying very hard to keep it together during this song.
I recall this gave me goosebumps when I saw the memorial service! There is no better honor for an artist than having his artwork lovingly honor him after he passes on. RIP to Jim Henson.

I like that song sung better in the ending credits to Muppet Treasure Island than with Kermit and Miss Piggy (Whitmire and Oz) singing it in the film.
So beautiful 😍
There's something poetic about the song starting with Scooter. He was always the "Least wacky" and was more quiet and reserved compared to the rest, but he was a vital part of the team and you can tell he was a good friend of Kermit. It's fitting that he would spearhead something more serious and bittersweet like this.
I also loved Scooter had something of a character arc in the early show. To begin with he was just kind of a nuisance kid who unwittingly forced his will on the show via his uncle's control, but the longer he stayed and learned the ropes, the more reliable he became and the more he became part of the family.
Jim played the music, he lighted the lights, and he got things started
RIP the Legendary Muppet creator 😔
yes
Yep, and I love the characters that came along after the genius man's death.
I'm crying! I'm actually crying!

Me too. This was my childhood...
Bowmaj 86 don’t blame u
It's happens

This is one of the most beautiful performances I know of. The emotion and the love they all had for Jim.
Could you imagine how beautiful it was when they rehearsed this for the first time
If he didn't feel like he was bothering anybody and just went to the damned doctor a few hours earlier... Not yelling at him. Just wish he would have done that. A few hours and he'd still be with us.
A lot of people who were raised Christian Scientist, even if they don't practice it as adults, just never developed that instinct most of us have that tells us, "Gee, this terrible way my body feels probably means I might need medical intervention to keep it from getting worse."
I'm not trying to downplay his stubbornness or workaholic tendencies, but even Jane has said she believes his upbringing was a factor.
I remember this memorial. It's so hard believe so many of these talented men and women are gone now too. RIP Big Bird.
Well look at it this way...they got to see their friend Jim again.
Bringing the classic characters from Jim Henson's 3 big shows, "The Muppet Show," "Sesame Street", and "Fraggle Rock." None would've been possible without his brilliance.
all the muppeteers and muppets from many show says goodbye to Jim Henson my hero and idol.

I wish he had seen a doctor earlier.Jim Henson might still be with us now. What a lovely tribute to a good man.Tears
You can see even at the beginning how they are comforting each other when they aren't yet singing.

Richard Hunt had a beautiful, strong legit singing voice. I wish he had had enough time with us to record more songs as himself. We'll never get to know what we missed out on.
The Feels are real, but so are the smiles, and the joy. Remember those, and find that Rainbow Connection
Wow, I got real sappy there, but its real
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
When Fozzie showed up I had to pause, I don't know why, but I just started to cry.
The feels are real. I cried 😓
Watching all those puppeteers come on stage with their muppets, singing "and more, and more" makes you REALLY realize what a family Jim built. Why not more?
Very sweet and poignant, and it's nice to see these beloved characters singing with their human counterparts.
RIP Jim Henson, Jane Henson, John Henson, Jerry Jhuel, Caroll Spinney, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, E.T.C.
I can!t believe this. I'm actually crying while I'm watching this and I'm in my 50s. I guess that just shows what a great and wonderful impact Jim Henson had. Rest in Peace Jim.
You're not alone. I'm a 56-year-old man and I'm still crying while watching this. I've never seen it before. It's so touching. A part of my child had passed away the day that Jim Henson did.
@@mtlnascarfan Raising my hand here too.... We were incredibly lucky.
I have always, _always_ loved this song, but today I was reminded of it very forcefully by a dear friend believing in me when I didn't. If you ever read this, Danielle, thank you for being my "just one person."
R.I.P Jim Henson thank you for those memories❤❤
The fact that they brought out the puppets made this even better.
Indeed.
Richard Hunt knew whilst performing this with his Sooter Muppet that he had less than a year to live. Kudos sir.. 👏👏
Here after losing my mom to covid. One of my favorite childhood memories was when she took me to the Sesame Street live show when I was a kid so it's oddly comforting revisiting this video all these years after I first saw it. I love you mom
Sorry for your loss.
Mis condolencias.
Apparently my mom who’s there
And almost 30 years later he is still remembered
Rest In Peace Jim Henson, you fantastic man
Jim left such a great legacy.
This performance is one of few things that breaks me every time without fail. Every. Single. Time it makes me cry. A lot. Thank you so much Jim.
The talent on that stage is astounding
Jim Henson inspired me to get creative as an artist. I created my own characters for my own stories for children, because of the characters that "he" created. Someday I'm going to publish books and build my own puppets. Thank you Jim, for your inspiration. Also, thank you for your dedication for bringing characters and stories to life. The shows/movies I love and inspire most are "Fraggle Rock", "Muppet Show", "The Muppet Movie", "Sesame Street", "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas", and "The Christmas Toy" You're my rock. RIP from 30 years ago.
Rest in peace Jim Henson. You will always be remembered for what you did to the art of puppetry.
We didn't deserve him.😭That man cared so much
My entire childhood…all right here. I’m squalling right now. 😭💚💚💚💚💚
2023 and we still wish Jim was here with us. Thank you Jim and the rest for helping my generation out, we will never forget you or Fred Rogers
🎶why not more, and more, and more🎵
Watching it again! I hope the voice actors controlling the puppets have had good lives. This was in 1990... It's 27 years later, basically a whole generation now has kids, that knew of Henson's work, before they could even talk about it with such intelligent words. Rest In Peace Jim!
A few of those performers have also left us now, Richard Hunt and Jerry Nelson.
sha11235 Richard Hunt passed away in 1992 and Jerry Nelson passed away in 2012.
Josh Gellis they’re not voice actors, they’re puppeteers! Voice is only 10% of it!
@@jedi328 I know about Richard. At this time, he was suffering from the AIDS virus that lead to his death less than two years after this memorial.
Thank you, Jim Henson, I will always carry a deep love for these characters, no matter how old I get. You will be missed.
I know how these people feel. Me and the rest of the band played my best friend’s music at his funeral. He was the singer, songwriter and soul of the band. It was so hard.
Tears are a sign of sadness, most of the time. That's why, when I don't want to be sad, I push them out of me completely, and this video helps me. Soon after, I'm smiling again.
You are missed, Mr. Henson.
Bawling like a baby in 2017 after seeing this. Bless you Jim Henson.
Every time I watch this, it just breaks my heart.
It’s been 31 years and I still haven’t got over it! I was 10 when Jim passed away and he brought so much to my childhood; humour, wonder, but also a sense of heart and right and wrong that I’ll never forget. A truly unique human being, and sorely missed.
I love the tribute that Richard Hunt did for Jim, and sadly he is gone too. I cannot watch this without tearing up 😢. Thanks for so many memories and creating such a wonderful childhood for me, to all you wonderful puppeteers, original members on Sesame Street or anything to do with the Muppets.
I think I listen to this song at least 10 times a week
This song is so touching, because it's quite amazing to see the Muppet performers control their Muppets while they sing it aloud. Did you know that it was originally used in Snoopy The Musical which was made by Peanuts creator, Charles M. Schulz? Everyone needs friends to cheer them up when they're down in times of grief. 👍🏻 if you strongly agree and wish that you could sing it with your friends at funeral for the Sandy Hook Elementary 👩🏻🎓s who got killed that day in December.
I owned two versions of it. The original cast, and the 1982 London Cast version.
thank you UA-cam for showing me this gem.
profoundly touched.
RIP Jim you will never die in our hearts. We miss you😥😥
I still had 9 years to be born when Jim passed, and this clip gets me so emotional every time I see it
Thank you Jim Henson for making the best show ever
this is the first time i saw this memorial service. feels emotional and very grateful too.
I have watched and learnt my numbers and alphabet and sense of humour from sesame street (when the Count still had his lightning and thunder effects), the muppet show and fraggle rock.
p.s. I am Chinese but i am more fluent in English than Mandarin. Speaks volumes on how good Jim Henson's shows were for education.
This is a sad moment but the song is catchy R.I.P Jim Henson
I started watching the video. Now listening to it reminds of my school friend who I lost in 2021. Now hearing this helps me remember her.
Out of all the songs performed by the Muppets I've heard, this one is by far my top favorite one
I have seen this before but it makes me cry every time
If just one person can make you tear up, why not more to make you have to pause the video to break down crying?
Inlelendri exactly, as if I do t already have another running out my nose lol
I’d type something but I can’t even... this still brings tears beyond reason !
When I was younger I used to listen to this and hold up one of my little puppets I had built and pretended I was a puppeteer there honoring him myself
That's so wholesome
This song not only makes me cry but inspires me to go out and make a difference in the world.
Such a beautiful tribute to Jim Henson, he brought the Muppets and fraggle Rock and sesame street to the world and it won't be the same Without him, Rest in peace Jim Henson
Well, he didn't create Sesame Street, he created the Muppets that are on that show.
Rip Jim Henson an inspiration to us all.
When Kevin Clash came up as Elmo followed by everyone else I genuinely started shaking with tears.
Rest in piece Jim Henson
It’s also sad that frank oz is also the last original puppeteer left god bless the muppets and thank you Jim Henson for 70 years of memories rest in peace Jim Henson
No, Dave Goelz (performing Gonzo here) has been with the Muppets since the Muppet Show, and still going strong.
Yes but frank oz is the last original pupenter for the muppets because Carrol spinney also died and now he is the only one left from the past
